  1. I'm hoping to get my date pushed back a week to the 11th, plus my kids actually offered to help clean and cook.
  2. Congrats....I have been in a stall for this past week, stuck at 188. After having a great meeting with the nutritionist for my 6 week followup and she documented an average of 4.5 lbs a week and now nothing. But I have not gained and hopefully the weather will warm up so I can get out and walk some more.

    Confused!

My nut said I should be eating 1000 calories a day and at least 60 grams of protein. Well I have been doing that from the beginning, and have been loosing up until 2 weeks ago. I have not lost anything! I haven't changed anything along with working out 4-5 times a week. Out of frustration, I looked online to see how many calories I should be eating a day to reach my goal weight. It stated I should be eating 1700 calories and 97 grams of protein with the amount of exercising I am doing. Also, that weight loss will happen in the beginning but then my body will eventually go into starvation mode and I will not loose anymore. Which I am wondering what is happening now? Is it possible that I am in starvation mode and unable to loose weight? I know the band is a tool and I use it as if it is. But honestly, without snacking in between meals, how can I get 1700 calories in a day and eat healthy?
  4. Hi All, I just wanted to share that I am 4 months out and am definately noticing the change in my body. Yesterday I pulled out of my closet 2 shirts that I wore around the winter time, they were so big I had to give them away. My home scale shows another 7 pound lost, BUT I want to wait till it's official on my doctors scale. My doctor's office sees me every 7-8 weeks so my next visit is the middle of August, I will record my weight loss then. I'm currently at 1.85cc after my second fill and I don't think I need another adjustment, but we will see what he says.

    Confused!

Hey i would say your only plateaued for 2 weeks. thats not bad id stick with what your doing and give it like another week or 2.. and if your doing 1000 cals a day id switch it up.. one day take in like 1200 and another 900. and switch up your diet a lil dont eat the same foods allthe time. you dont need to consume too much more to get out of starvation mode just by eating at different tmes during the day and fluctuating the amount of calories you take in a day should help to kick start it again.. also when you work out you doo gain muscle soo your body might be adjusting to that now. but its good cause ur loosing inches maybe not the scale,.. def give it some more time. goodluck!

    Ex-Smokers...Cravings?

I was sleeved Nov 6 and quit smoking probably 3 weeks before surgery. I have had cravings also, and several times have had a puff from one of my mother's cigs (she is living with me right now) and it tasted/felt gross, disgusting, icky. Yep I kept trying thinking it would be good but it was not!!!! I'm not recommending trying a smoke, just telling you how I have dealt with it. Also a good thing to think of, after going through the surgery so we can be healthier and feel better, why continue to hurt our bodies with cigarettes? Wish you the best of luck
  8. This is to those of you how have done this already. I'll give hard numbers so it makes sense I hope. My surgery was two weeks ago tomorrow. The morning I went in I weighed 143. I don't know how much he took (I'd guess 6 pounds, I forgot to ask). Today I weight 144! I know I'm getting NO exercise, obviously, but I'm also being very careful about what I eat. I'm eating less than pre surgery to try to balance the lack of calorie use. I know once I can start even walking things will get back on track, but is this normal? Is this fluid? I have one drain still in, but it has finally stopped much output so it will be removed Tuesday. FYI, I feel like the weight is going to my thighs. Is this some weird head game I'm playing on myself, is this normal, did you guys go through this as well? I'm torn between eating to recover and not eating to take the weight off! Help!

    Question

I have had mine a week and have had no problems. A friend of mine has had hers since 2008 and she has not had any problems with hers.

    Fatigue

My incisions didn’t start feeling better until the end of week 2. I just finished the end of week 3 and have been making an effort to get more steps in by taking a few short walks everyday...it still makes me tired. Take your time and don’t overdo it. Rest when you have to.

    Need Help

hello just wanted to ask a few questions and see if anyone could give me some advice. i was banded on 3/2/2004 and so far i have lost 50lbs, but in the recent month i put on about 8 or so so i went back to my doctor tod him i could eat alot more and he gave me a fill which is my third the first 2 he said was .5 each time and this time was 1.0 he also said he that if i could eat the same then maybe he would have to do it under an x-ray. but that was a week ago and 5 of those 8 lbs have come off and now i cant stop burping i mean for a good hour or so. is this normal and is this restriction? im a little worried, i still can eat normal food never any pain just alot of burping even if i just drink something, does anyone think this is normal?
  12. I'm very confused. I have had several fills and not until the last one, which was 6/30/08, that I ever vomited or felt serious restriction. After that fill I had reflux and vomited at least a couple of times a week. It was very tight, but I was still able to take in enough nutrition. Over time I guess it stretched and I can now eat bread again (toasted and dry). The vomiting went away and everything seemed okay. Last night I had extreme reflux again. It was unreal and coming out my nose in my sleep. (sorry if too much information) It was disgusting and now my throat hurts and I feel miserable. My question is, what would cause this to happen after everything seemed okay again? It has continued all day today, but at least you can deal with it when you're awake. Any thoughts appreciated.
  13. My doctors office faxed in my information last Wednesday afternoon and at 8:30am Thursday morning, I received the phone call that I was APPROVED for the Sleeve. I am beyond excited right now. I received a call from the surgeons office and I had to stop taking my Omeprazole for 2 weeks and have a bacteria test done on my stomach. My appt is scheduled for July 5th for the test and then I get to schedule for my surgery, I am hoping for July 23rd. My question for everyone that has already had the surgery, what do I need to take with me for my hospital stay?? Also, I would like to find out approximately how much money will be spent on protein powders.

    Schooled by the Band

I'm just the opposite. I can eat anything. I had one fill over a week ago and still no restriction. It's frustrating cuz right now I am applying will power like crazy. I'm hungry and want to eat. I admit I eat a bit less than I did before the band, but I have no real restriction and I'm amazed how much I can eat. I go back in 2 weeks for another fill. I'm crossing my fingers this time I will get some restriction. I'm afraid my will power will fade soon as it has always done in the past!
  17. I had my first restriction on Tuesday and was back on solid foods today. I didn't follow the rules, I think I ate too fast or didn't chew enough and I was schooled by the Band! It was a fast and ugly lesson. Within 5 minutes I had pain and next thing you know it was the 50 yard dash to the bathroom. Back to liquids for next 24 hours. I don't believe I can ever eat any chicken again. I'm so mad at myself, doctor even said to me Tuesday this is where we start getting into it for real, you will not be able to eat like you could and you must slow down. Eating today was nothing like the first few weeks after post-op. All the vomiting think maybe I lost a pound????? Just kidding

    GS recovery time?

this too is also my biggest question. I think from what I have heard is a night or 2 in hospital then a week prior to returning to work on average. everyone is different.
  19. What is your struggle? Is it pain? Gas? Are you constantly sipping? I know we are all different and each work differently. I was sleeved the 27th. I have been very aggressive with water, not so much with protein. The first week I made my focus on water, increasing hour by hour and day by day. My first day I took in 17oz I made a goal to increase that to 28oz the next day and all day I counted and divided and said 28oz over 16 hours is 1.75oz an hour. I hit 40oz that day. I have done that everyday since. Over the last 3 days I have taken in 65oz-70oz and today 104oz. 100oz was my goal. I easily took in a gallon pre op and I didn't want to get dehydrated. It isn't easy, but it will get easier. Consistency is key. Good Luck

    1 Step Closer in Raleigh

Hey Chad, Congrats on the approval! I think there is a time limit from the time you get approved and surgery date - make sure you ask - just in case! :blushing: It took me about a week to get back to work, I also had a hernia repair at the same time, so not sure if that makes a difference. I can understand not wanting to interfere with your education. If I could have worn sweat pants to work I would have been back sooner! LOL! The worst part for me was my pants hitting the incision. So if you can wear sweats you will be golden! Ha! I had mine done on a Thurs and was back to work Wed. I think. Not too bad Congrats again and feel free to contact me anytime! (foxterp@me.com) It will be great to have local support!! Have a good one!!

    Water And Hydration Packs

My family and I will hiking daily in a hot, dry climate about 4 weeks after I am banded. I am concerned about becoming dehydrated from not being able to consume enough water. Will I be able to drink several ounces of water at once at this post-op stage? Or should I purchase a hydration pack like a CamelBak so that I can sip small amounts as we hike? I don't want to hold the rest of my group up with frequent water stops so I thought this might be a good solution, yet I am also wondering if sipping from a hydration pack will have the same effect as using a straw. If you've had any experiences with this, I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thank you!
  22. I had surgery a little over 2 weeks ago and I still can't bend over to pick anything up without having discomfort (that's where my kids are coming in handy these days!) I still sleep with a heating pad at night sometimes because of the soreness. It definitely improves day by day, but it takes time to heal. No matter what anyone tells you, it's a MAJOR surgery!! Best wishes.
  23. Thought I was fine til I started playing w my 4 year old and my abdomen started hurting in that sore kind of way. I called and asked my Dr if I was stil on the 15 lb restriction, and she said til my 8 week appt! Is my abdomen really going to be this sensitive that long? How long til u could function w/o ANY pain whatsoever?
  24. It was about the three week mark before I could run/jump/move like normal. Remember, to place the band, they cut through a layer of muscle in multiple spots. You use your abdominal muscles for a lot more than you think you do. For the first couple weeks I felt like I had done a thousand sit-ups the day before. It does get better though! If I was really sore I would use a heating pad.

    starting to get worried

I had exactly the same problem. Ny doctor told me to screw the protien at furst and ti stat hydrated. I was obly drinking 2 cupa a day for the first week but then my sleeve finally expanded enough I could drink more and it became easier to eat things in the puree and soft stages. My doc told me as long as youre getting at least 2 cups a day (not long term of course) that it was ok. After 3 or 4 weeks it finally became much easier
