  1. Hello everyone, I'm a newbie to this site. I’m having a Revision from RNY to RNY 08/15/16 making my current pouch of 8 oz (1 cup) to a 1.5 oz pouch. Due to enlarged stoma of 3.5 centimeters big. My surgeon told me that I may not lose as much weight as before. Because must people who had revision lose little to no weight, but the issues will be fix. I don’t understand how I will not loss weight with a new smaller pouch. As long, as I eat healthy, watch portion size, exercise, stay motivated and have a great support system. Which I do. Can someone offer their opinion or been through this situation their self? My pouch been 8 ounces for the last 9 years. 3 years ago I start gaining weight and I would look at what I was doing and notice I ate more and the weight came on. And all this is because of the enlarge stoma, malabsorption and weight gain.

  3. I'm finishing up my tests next week and hopefully I'll have my revision to RNY in August. I'm going out of the country for the month of July so I've been busy this month getting everything done. It's much easier this time then the first time around. I guess because I've been down this road before and it's all familiar. I hope you all get surgery dates soon. The first week is rough but after that it gets easier every day. Follow the diet and learn the new recipes because if you go back to the old way of eating you will certainly regain. Good luck everyone and happy losing.

@@texasbrit10, @@catdaddy, and @@Julie norton, I agree with y'all. We are definitely not too old to reap the benefits of WLS. I think we are probably more appreciative of this opportunity than the younger folks because we've "been there, done that".. I'm 61 and had the sleeve a couple of years ago. Because of GERD I'm having the revision to the RNY and I don't think I'm too old for that either. Being healthy at this age is so important and I just have to say it's a great time to be alive. Not too many years ago, people didn't have these options. I wish everyone continued success in their weight loss surgery...and good health.
  5. It all depends on how much weight you have to lose. If you are in the higher weight ranges, the RNY might be better. The Sleeve is a bit easier but then it's easier to cheat which could cause you from losing all the weight you need to lose. I had the Sleeve 2 1/2 years ago and I love it. I still have restriction and it's just so easy. The bad thing is that I have horrible gastric reflux and meds are not helping. I am scheduled for a revision to a RNY bypass in August. They are both tools, they both work but the RNY is malabsorbtive, which could cause dumping and there is the issue of taking Vitamins the rest of my life. Ah well.... Good luck to you.Great points....my BMI IS 51, I have 160 pounds to lose....so that clearly points to RNY. But I have a real fear of playing with my intestines, since they already seem rumbly and mildly unhappy 4 days a week....maybe I have chronically inflammation and have just always lived with it? But even more worrisome, my mother had her intestines resectioned in one place during a cancer surgery, and she never healed right, had bowel obstructions, developed a fistula from her intestines through to her belly button, it was awful. And I am afraid maybe I would heal like that? Your GERD must be awful to "leave it" for an RNY....it really is unbearable? It must be, if you are willing to through all this again. The sleeve seems like so much less trauma to my body. But maybe I am underestimating myself, and maybe I could handle the extra trauma of the RNY. Another plus for RNY....I only have 1 chance to do this with my insurance. So maybe I just go for the RNY, if I might wind up there one day anyway? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Hi Gina. I have to say I absolutely love my sleeve. It's awesome. After all this time I still have restriction. Maybe not as much as I did but I can still only eat small meals. I've had GERD for years but the surgery did make it worse. I've tried so many pills and though sometimes the meds help for awhile, nothing cures it or gets rid of it. My esophagus is inflamed, I have erosive esophagitis now because of the reflux. If I don't convert to the RNY I could end up with cancer, not to mention that the meds for reflux damage your bones. If you don't have the problems I do, you will love the sleeve. If you are truly afraid of the malabsorption issues then don't put yourself through the stress, just go with the sleeve. It's a much easier surgery. I was off work one week, went back to work and managed fine. At 5 months I traveled out of the country and did great. They are both wonderful surgeries. I prefer the sleeve and hate to have to change but my health requires it now. Good luck to you and get ready for some really big changes in your life. You are going to LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. Oh, btw, don't go overboard buying clothes during your weight loss. Shop second hand and thrift stores. You can't buy a new wardrobe every month for the new size you are. :-)

    Low BMI Gastric Sleeve story

Good for you! When was your surgery? Mine was April 20th. I was 177 but am only 5'00". I was a revision from a band to a sleeve and it's much better. I'm down about 20 lbs and am thrilled. Hard to see some other posts where people have lost 30!pounds in a month but I've learned through this site not to compare. Plus I'm thrilled for each and every person who is losing- it's so motivating and genuinely makes me smile. I love this forum. :) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  12. Hi all, Just wondering what bypass peeps are eating 5 weeks out. Not sure if there is a thread / topic already. I know we each follow our doctors / nut's plans / advice but just wondered what people are doing and looking to share dietary plans / advice. My WLS journey was Band, Band to Sleeve, then Sleeve to Bypass. (Yep 3 ops!). Pre band weight - 136kg Weight at last revision (Bypass) on the 10th May 2016 - 103kg Weight today - 94.9kg Goal weight - 80kg Here's what I'm having each day this week : 630am - I have a 250ml glass of Water and my Multivitamin liquid, Biotin liquid, sublingual B12. 0730am - (On the way to work) 2 x calci-chews with vit D and a coffee (250ml) with fat free added Calcium milk and a stevia for sweetener. 1000am - At work around 10am I'll have 1 scrambled egg with a low fat slice of cheese in it (can do it in the microwave). 12pm - I'll have a super greens type drink (500ml) with chia seeds and konjac root powder added to thicken it a little and maybe a little flavour free Protein powder. 2pm - Pre made portion of pureed chicken breast with veggies (200ml) Then just water / tea / coffee until I'm home. A couple of coloxyl and Senna laxative tablets if I need them. 6pm - Another pre made pureed chicken breast with veggies (200ml) 8pm - Half an Optifast lemon water desert (love them!) with sugar free jelly. (200ml) Then just tea and water until bed time. Might chuck a bit of benefibre in if I feel like it. Sometimes if I'm hungry anywhere in between the above I'll add up to 1 Protein shake / optifast Soup with konjac root powder to thicken a little. I find adding a small amount of the konjac root powder, just thickens liquidy type drinks ever so slightly increase my satiety. Also I'm 8 weeks of the cigarettes and no booze for ages :-( lol. I'm planning on a glass of wine or maybe 2 as a treat when I get to 90kg though :-) Does anyone else use Konjac root? Looking forward to your replies :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Stomach stretching

I love Subway sandwiches. At 3 years out I can eat 2/3 of a 6" on white bread with the top half of the bread removed. I just get the meat, cheese, and some pickles and olives. About an hour later I can go back and eat the remaining 1/3 with no problem. Recently I ate the whole bottom half of this same sandwich. I was quite full but not to the point of being sick. It was the first thing I'd eaten that day so I was pretty hungry. The joke was on me because that night about 2 am I had an awful heartburn attack. Like no other. I had to get up out of bed just to breathe and it was very hard to catch my breath. Kind of scary really. I won't make that mistake again. Don't worry too much about replies that come across as rude. It happens frequently. For the most part they mean well. I eat anything I choose, do not restrict carbs, sugar, fat, or anything else. I have not gained weight back like they told me I would, did not stretch my sleeve after a year and need a revision like they said I would, and I am quite healthy. Not to mention that compared to the piggie I used to be - I look darn good. Just take the replies that you find helpful and discard the rest - you know - don't even bother getting mad or offended. It's not worth your time. Everyone here is really pretty nice even if at times the replies sound self-righteous and rude.
  16. @@monroe50, Can you talk about your revision after having MGB? I haven't talked to anyone that's had an MGB revision. Also can you talk about your weight loss and timing, if you don't mind?

  18. I'm revising sleeve to bypass on 7/1. My reflux is out of control, even on maximum dose PPI - Protonix 40 mg/Dexilant 60 mg and Zantac 300 mg a day. I also have a gene mutation that affects the rate I metabolize PPIs so they offer me little to no relief. Also, my insurance co. has advised me that they no longer will cover the Dexilant, which is the only med that provides me any relief. My surgeon said I have a 95% chance of leaving the hospital off of my acid meds. Since I haven't revised, I can't offer you any post op advice. I do know I've been dealing with the increased acid for the last year and revision was truly my last resort. However, I've talked to some of my surgeon's revision patients (he gets referrals from other surgeons as well as his own patients, so he's done quite a few revisions) and they all say choosing revision was the best decision they've ever made. I'm torn because I LOVE my sleeve. I'm maintaining a 120+ lb loss and I have no food issues. I fight the urge to cancel the surgery on a daily basis. But I know I can't live the way I am for much longer and I'm tired of fighting my insurance co. for coverage for my meds or alternative procedures. Also, I don't want to risk developing esophageal cancer in order to keep my sleeve. So, I'm putting my faith and trust in my surgeon and will go through with the revision. If you have any questions, feel free to message me and I'll give you any info I have. Good luck.
  19. Hello! Has anyone had their sleeve revised to a bypass? My sleeve has given me very bad acid reflux, so my surgeon has suggested I have it revised into a bypass to stop this problem. Has anyone had this done? Thoughts? Comments? Things to consider?
  20. Hi All, I just started week 2 of my 2 week pre-op diet. It is really interesting to read the differences between what everyone has to do. I am on a liquid only diet. I have 2 premier shakes a day and the bariatric pal Protein soup for dinner. Days 3-5 were a little rough for me, but now I feel good and really excited for my surgery next week. I should also say that this is a revision surgery for me. I was sleeved in 2013. The first time I didn't have to do any kind of pre-op diet and now being close to round 2 and on a pre-op diet, I really wish they would have. Not that I believe that the results would have been different, but I really think it helps get you in the right head space for life after surgery. Good luck to everyone!!
  21. Hello. It's been a long time since I came on this site or posted. I am scared to death to write this post, as I already know what many of you will say and I also know most of the answers. I'm so scared of all of you because everyone has success stories and I am a complete, dire failure. I had my revision from band to GB last June. I have a lot of emotional problems that are being treated with many medications and weekly therapy. My really good therapist has little experience in WLS or food addiction. We've tried to communicate my issues, but seriously, each time I go in there is a new legitimate crisis that must be addressed first. She speaks about using EMDR to combat my complete refusal to follow my WLS program. But that has yet to be done. I'm completely and profoundly ashamed of myself and it has made me ditch the whole GB life that I was absolutely excited about in the beginning. You're all such a success, even the ones who struggle are doing laps around me. Please don't beat me up for being such a failure, I do that every day. My highest weight was 372. I put myself on a diet before even applying for WLS and lost 35 pounds. I had the bypass in June a week before my Father died of cancer. I tried so hard. After surgery I lost 35 more pounds, leaving me at 300. And in the deepest shame, I must admit that I only lost 8 pounds since my WLS a year ago. I have never gained, just maintained. At first, I was totally committed, then more crises occurred and I slowly let go of the rules. I know, it's awful. I began to eat a little larger meals at dinner and did not eat all day. It's like torture pushing food into my mouth in the morning. I made egg muffins, did them for a while but gave up. I had a hard time eating at all. Food did not appeal to me. I was doing my Protein and Vitamins religiously, oddly still am. My bloodwork was perfect. If you knew me and my life experiences, you would wonder why I didn't kill myself. But I am. I let go. My stomach never rejected extra food or made me sick. I had hoped I would dump on sugar or something, but that never happened. I began to eat a little sugar and that escalated to more and more. My stomach must be very large as it holds a standard adult meal. I always held in more food than those of you here on the forum. It was suggested that I eat three meals a day and two or three Snacks. I also drink a lot, even pop. By all accounts I should have blown up by now. I did damage and did not care. I don't really care what I eat. You know the destructive thinking of not caring even though you know it is only killing you. I'm super messed up. I'm a very honest person to others but not to myself. Yes, I hate myself, sometimes. I don't even care (or so I force myself to believe) if I ever lose weight. But honestly, I wish I could get it straight in my head that that is the path I chose with such enthusiasm. I was diagnosed with severe asthma and put on supplemental oxygen, in and out of the house. Yes, I felt sorry for myself. I have two replaced knees that prevent me from walking well or far. I had to use a walker to get around and do my job. It sucked. But, having lost the weight I did, I was taken off the oxygen, and with a lot of work, began to walk on my own, though not well. I want to go to PT so bad. I lost my job a long time ago (which has taken a mean toll on me) I was denied unemployment, took them to court and am awaiting the judge's decision. If I am denied again, I will request yet another hearing. My husband has been taking care of us on a $9.00 dollar an hour job. The past few months we have been surviving on all the cheapest food, which does not offer much nutrition at all. We are so poor, we sold everything we owned on craigslist for pennies. My husband cooks all our meals, but doesn't really support a WLS diet. I hate to say that he doesn't support my necessary diet. Not cruelly, but just not "think" of it. Especially since I'll eat anything. I can't stand long enough to cook. I tried to sit on a bench to cook, but my legs ended up hurting more. I do the housework I can, and try to walk the supermarket when I can. Good, healthy food is more expensive than we could afford. I'm still managing to get all the protein I can. But financially, we are screwed. Back to my failure to desire to get back on my diet...I want to care, but my mental health has deteriorated so much I can't. Even my psychiatrist feels for me but I've been on most of the meds that there are no more options. He is worried, as am I. I've looked for groups in my area, found and tried a few, but people don't get bariatric surgery. I was in groups of anorexics, etc. I just don't fit. Like I don't fit here, but I'm reluctantly reaching out. I have a dual diagnosis of severe mental illness and obesity. Its hard to fit in when the two are inter connected and I don't understand how to manage the two. But no weight loss after an entire year is an emergency in my opinion. I'm so hard on myself. I drink so much Water that I float, take in enough supplemental protein and take my prescribed vitamins. I just can't seem to get in a regimen again. I can't even believe I'm sharing this deeply personal and shameful post to you. Keep in mind my dual diagnosis, it is very, very hard for me to care about myself. Even with therapy. I don't regret the surgery at all, as I'm hoping with all my heart that I will make this happen. I'm a survivor. But coasting on no weight loss or gain is not good enough. I did not have this surgery to only fail. But I did. Please don't berate me. I'd just like to see how you successful people would respond to such a post. And, no, there is no easy answer. I need help.

I'm 9 years post - band and awaiting a surgery date for RNY - I didn't realise I had any issues apart from GERD until we did a fill under x-ray/fluro and found a massively dilated oesophagus ????, all of a sudden it was empty band, a worried surgeon and talking 'other options'.. I've never been so miserable! Anyway I'm getting all set for the revision and I'm fine with the potential complications. ..
