Suggested Read For C-Pap/bi-Pap Users
IrishEyes replied to IrishEyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@15k, my pulmonologist sent in an order to adjust my range. Currently 14-8. And have it switched to an auto adjust so that as my weight drops and with physiological changes the pressure will adjust accordingly. The bi-pap is amazing. I had a cpap yrs ago and had a lot of trouble. Went to a new pulmonologist and she told me about the bi-pap. How the pressure is greater when you breathe in and less when you breathe out. Making it feel more like normal breathing on the exhale. I found it to be much more comfortable. And this self adjust mode is amazing too. Very handy for dramatic weight loss situations. Though I miss the quality of sleep, I may have to play it safe and wait a little bit, days, and let my healing progress. I think this all may have set me back a bit. This, too, is near the top of my list of goals. 1st NSV, lower my weight to decrease the chances of my cancer returning and 2nd NSV, get off this machine, for good!!! -
I was at target and saw some cute capri rollup jeans and they were on sale for like 11 bucks, so I decided to get them. I went for a size smaller thinking I would get in them eventually. went home and tried them on and I could get them all the way up but not buttoned But it is so close, they are 14's. I was jumping up and down cause I should be able to wear em in maybe 5-10 more lbs maybe. yeaaaahhhh! I think I might hit onderland some this week or next also. I seem to be losing more in my thighs than I usually do also, because I usually cant get on pants and not have them fit around my waist. I have the thunder thigh problem. Anyway, I was a bit happy with my dizcovery

So I just updated my ticker and realized I have lost half of my excess weight! Woo Hoo! Now I still have a lot of weight to lose but this is a great realization! My doctor set my goal between 230 and 260 (started at 417). There is absolutely no way I would be happy with that! I set my goal at 175 and figured I would just reassess when I reached that. Did you all stick with your doctor's goal or set your own? I just feel 230-260 is too high. I've been at 200 before and wasn't even happy with my weight then.

Hi, I used to have terrific foot pain in the morning. Would get out of bed (gingerly) and painfully, barely be able to leave the room. It happened more days than most, and after about a half an hour, it would dissipate. Miraculously, after about the first 25 pounds of weight loss - the foot pain disappeared - never to return! Thanks for reminding me of this now, long forgotton major NSV! Best, Brad

I went shopping at Lane Bryant today and I am down to a size 18 on the bottom and 14/16 on the top. I started at a size 24. My goal is 50 more lbs. Pretty soon I'll be shopping at a normal clothing store. I'll miss Lane Bryant though. I've been shopping there for years!

Donna, what a great NSV.. I have two Wacoal bra's in my dresser, both cost me 65.00 each.. now they are too big but hey I am not complaining.. it's really great to find stuff on sale that fits.. you should have bought the jeans and had them shortened.. I have problems with the same thing.. I am 5' on a good day. so if it says short or petite I usually have to shorten it...good shopping days are what makes everything better.... -
Stop comparing yourself. Years ago my aunt had the surgery and she gained every single oz back PLUS. I never told anyone about my surgery except my husband because a) while scared he supported me and I knew I'd hear from others, " your aunt had that surgery and look at her now!" This is where a little tunnel vision comes in handy. I learned to stay in my lane and eff anyone and everyone who has unsolicited advise or opinions. I also almost never compare or obsess over the failures of others. You shouldn't either as you are doing this for yourself before all others. Keep track of where you are now compared to the past and look forward to meeting more goals...especially non-scale victories. NSVs are so very important. Best wishes to you!

CG, I know this may sound crazy, but I found something that works for me when putting pantyhose on, I take a little bit of hand/body lotion and rub a little on my legs and on my hands and the pantyhose seem to slip up nicely withouth getting snagged or having that lovely 'electric' shock ... Yes take off the rings before putting the hoses on, I had ripped so many in my day .. Congrats on your NSV!!! -

Love the NSV's... I just did something a little different... I just dragged out the 2 boxes of clothes in sizes below what I have been wearing and started putting things INTO my closet that fit me, now/again. My Mom and Sister are both heavy - and we have swapped clothes back and forth for years as we each moved up and down in DietLand. Since I was left behind the last time they lost weight, I ended up with most of the clothes... It's like Christmas everytime I wear something "new". :]

This weekend we (our family) moved my sister and her husband in with our mom. I was easily able to keep up with everyone and put in 150% effort in help moving heavy furniture, climbing around in the back of a U-haul, etc. My dad kept calling me "skinny", even though I still weigh about 15 pounds more than I did when he first started really backing and pushing (in a good way) me to get WLS years and years ago. haha Of course, I came home sore that night and the next day, but from the sound of things, I fared a whole lot better than everyone else! Lots of complaining about barely being able to move! The ONLY downside, and it can hardly even be called that, is that my bones have a lot less meat covering them now, so I did end up with several nasty bruises on my hips and shoulders from banging them around. I just can't seem to remember that they're there again! I love when the rewards of my weight loss become this evident! And all of that time at the gym with the weights is really paying off, as well!

I don't wear panty hose during the summer, but when I go to church in fall and winter, I get them because I don't like to be cold! Yes, even here in central Florida. A body gets used to the heat and when we lose weight, its cold!!!Thanks for the NSV! -
I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic in May of 2007- when I was 23 years old. I've struggled with having good numbers, taking 2000 mg of metformin a day I. Addition to glimiperide and I also tried invokana. I had my sleeve done on March 4th of this year. I have not taken any diabetes medication since the second week after my surgery. This morning my fasting blood sugar was 79! I have not seen numbers that low, even with medication ever! Needed to share with someone!

I came in at lunch from a short walk around campus at work. I have to pass through another department to get to my office. As I turned the corner to go through the double doors toward my office, an aquantance called my name. I didnt hear her... she called again and I turned. She screamed "How much weight have you lost!!! you look amazing!" I was startled. I made the same old knee jerk reaction by telling her it was probably because my hair was pulled back that it looked like I had lost a lot of weight. Then I realized, Hey! I have lost 27 pounds so far! I told her it was 27 pounds and she was so excited for me! Then I was excited for me! I dont know why I try to play it off still, like I didnt really accomplish it. I need to get my head out of my butt and realize that I am doing this! This is really happening! Woohooo for people noticing your weight loss! I will take it!

What's your current height and weight? 5' 1.5":-) 130-135 3. How many calories do you eat daily (on average) to maintain your weight? 1,000-1,300 4. What kind of focus do you put on Protein -- number of grams or anything else you want to say? I always eat my protein first. My goal is 60-80+g per day- aim towards 80+ 5. What other nutritional tips / tricks are working for you that help you maintain? Staying focused mentally 7. Which foods, if any, do you avoid altogether? Potatoes, pizza, Pasta, Rice, Bread, chips 8. What exercise regimen (exercise types and frequency) do you follow? This is my down fall for sure! No regiment. I realize this is something I have to be diligent about adding for long-term maintenance and overall health. 9. What role, if any, has counseling or therapy played in your WLS success? N/A 10. What advice would you offer WLS patients to help them be successful? Believe in yourself and never give up! Throw the scale away; stay positive; stay focused on why you made the decision to have WLS in the first place, remember that every NSV and every # and every " is a victory; remember how far you've come; remember the place you were in prior to WLS; love yourself where you are RIGHT NOW don't start until you're X amount of lbs. down or in a size ???? enjoy the here and now it will be this attitude and approach that will allow you to keep going!!!! -
