16 days out from vsg left shoulder pain
maramirez3614 replied to Chocolatay33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I experienced the pain on my chest and not my shoulder, they did tell me it’s Bc of the Gas that was used for the surgery but the Gas went away little by little after drinking Gas X. That helped me out a lot! It took me about a week in a half to have the pain away. I had hard time farting it out but I would burp it out. Try Gas X. -

slow digestive system..has anyone experienced this
ParrotheadCathy replied to Rteest's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The truth of it is that almost any prescription drug has side effects. And if a drug has had serious side effects in just a small percentage of people, they are required by law to advise you of it .... just like informed consent before your had your band surgery. Watch the ads for the medicines used to treat rhumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia, for example. Makes the drugs sound scary as all get out but I have 3 friends with RA and 1 with fibromyalgia and they all get relief from those supposedly scary drugs with no side effects. Try it. If you don't like how you feel, then tell the doc you don't want to take it anymore. Nothing wrong with a test drive! -
What Are You Buying To Prep?
tabithainbremerton replied to jayeedee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Luckily my dad had previosly had lap band, so I stole his magic bullet. I bought a blender, but haven't used it (I am on week 2 of post-op mushies). My biggest purchase has been a sewing machine, not so I could sew all new skinny clothes, but because I need a NON-EATING hobby. Something to do besides staring at the clock waiting to eat, LOL. So I bought it at 2 weeks post op. Other things bought pre-surgery was just lots of food for liquid and puree phases. I tried all sorts of Proteins including some clear juice ones, which actually sent me into a throwing up fit 2 days after surgery. So I got some already made shakes at costco (Premier brand) and have had one of those every day (yes, even in clear liquid phase.) Good luck! Tabby. -
What Are You Buying To Prep?
Fit in my 60's replied to jayeedee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought protein products, both liquid and powder. Also bought some can soups that I will have to blend the first 2 weeks, but then can eat them the next 2 weeks when my diet changes to soft foods. I also changed my vitamins and calcium to chewables and still looking for liquid fish oil (yuck!) That pill is so huge I'm sure it would get stuck for sure! I'm always so amazed that different doctors give different instructions. Guess it just depends on who you go to. I already have a good blender and sewing machine. The sewing machine could come in handy to take in some clothes, I hope!! Don't want to start buying a lot when I first start to lose. -
Hi Am 5 weeks post-op. I started working out at the gym about 2 weeks ago. I prefer early morning because am so busy during the day. My question is: is there a prime time for working out? I mean do we burn more if we work out at specific time of the day? Morning? Afternoon? Evening?

Back to basics...and broke my stall !
MystiGal replied to nursepez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is exactly what I needed to read! I have been gaining and losing the same 3 pounds over the past 2 1/2 weeks. I will be six weeks post op Tuesday. I don't know if I am depressed or just having too much fun with an I dont care attitude, but I really screwed up this weekend. Had about 10 glasses of wine, a few tequila shots, a bloody mary, hotlinks, crunchy tacos.... Yeah, it was a fun filled weekend by the pool, but I lost control. I will be doing protein shakes this week to get back on track. Thanks for your post. -
Does adding a protein supplement to your meals help keep you filled up? I've been reading about unflavored protein powder, specifically the Unjury brand. Does that kind of protein work the same way, as chicken in filling you up? I am trying to eat my protein. I haven't had a protein shake since week 2 after surgery. I'm still in the process of getting my band filled to the right amount, and I find that I'm hungry a lot. Would this kind of protein be helpful for me? Thanks!

On iPhone go to the menu in the upper left corner. it will be the 3 squiggly white lines. Click that, there will be a list of options. Messages is the 4th one from the bottom.

Upper left hand corner are 3 white bars on Timeline screen. Touch them. About two thirds of the way down you will see private message

I think hunger is something we all have to accept as a part of life. But, there are ways to manage hunger and prevent it from getting out of control. How many times per day are you eating? I eat 6 times per day and I try to space them out every 3-4 hours. This prevents me from ever getting that out of control hunger feeling. Select high Protein foods and complex carbs (brown rice, whole potatoes etc.) because these foods burn slowly in us which helps us stay satisfied until the next meal. I don't worry about the amount I eat at each meal as long as the food is balanced and nutritionally responsible...not junk. I guess I'm trying to say that sometimes we just need to play around with what we're eating when we're having a lot of hunger issues. Usually, you'll notice that your diet includes too much sugar products and simple carbs (white bread, white rice etc.) and those items will keep your blood sugar going crazy thus making you hungry more often and more intensely. I hope this helps!

Lap band to Sleeve revision pain
Green1 replied to Green1's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
It feels like tension in the back in my hip bone. I am not making this up it is really confusing. It feels like a sprained muscle in the stomach area. This has been going on for 2 or 3 years. I wish I had something to take to make it go away. The pain otherwise goes in and out. Whenever I sit down its there. It is a confusing type of thing. -
Lap band to Sleeve revision pain
Hiraeth replied to Green1's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Sorry to make you go through these questions, I'm just trying to make sure I fully understand what is going on. So, you had the Lap Band done and that is when you first started feeling this pain? And 8 weeks ago you had the revision, and the pain is still present? I would have suggested that it was trapped CO2 gas in your diaphragm. But since it's been 8 weeks, it is highly unlikely that the CO2 gas is still there. Do you still have your gallbladder? The reason I'm asking is because sometimes, when the body loses weight rapidly, the gallbladder can start to fail, and that can cause a gallstone. When there's a gallstone, you can have pain in your back. Have you ever had a HIDA Scan? If not, you may want to consider getting one. Also, you may want to have your spleen checked. In rare cases, the spleen can have a lack of oxygen getting to it, which can cause back pain. I don't mean to alarm you. I'm just thinking of possible reasons. I hate when doctors try to say that nothing is wrong, when someone clearly doesn't feel well. All of this could just be inflammation of the stomach because it is trying to heal, and the pain could be mimicking back pain. Are you getting up and doing a lot? You may need more rest. The ER might be a good choice, because then you'll have a second opinion. Keep us updated. -
Hey Kate, where are you going backpacking? I am going in July in Colorado. 3 friends and I will be climbing Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive. A 4 day hike from Twin Lakes to Turquoise Lake. I can't wait!

Is this to fast for weight loss?
Meryline replied to Ineedhelp2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 3 months I was over 60% of goal. I'll be 4 months on Thursday and I'm at 68% now. Some loose faster than others, the surgeons usually go by the average. -
Pre-op and cheating ... advice please!
Jhawaiianhny replied to gr2016's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think it will affect it, depends though...on what you ate, do you plan to do it again and what kind of pre-op diet plan you're supposed to be on. I'm 7 weeks post sleeve and I know how hard it is to be on liquids. My pre-op diet was 2 weeks of just liquid! That was torture! But I just kept thinking of what I was going to be doing and the outcome if it all, to be successful, depended on me doing what my surgeon and his team had planned out. So 2 weeks liquids, had surgery, 2 more weeks just liquids...Lil over a month of just liquids! I know how frustrating and hard it is! You can do it though. Just have as many varieties, that are allowed, then it don't get too repetitive lol. sugar free popsicles and SF Jello really helped! Hope everything goes well! Good luck and just keep thinking of the end result and all the reasons why you chose to do this! You got this! HW: 419 SW: 341 CW: 314 -
I was totally shocked when my sleep study ended with a dx of apnea. I got my machine last Friday and to my shock I actually found there was a difference almost immediately in the quality of rest I got. Often it takes me a while to wake up in the morning and after using the machine I was much more alert in the morning. My brother (tall and skinny dang him!) has apnea and told me the machine will change my life and health so I will definitely use it regularly. In fact if dxed with apnea one requirement for the sleeve is using it for at least two weeks before the surgery, and also having it with you for surgery.
-
I had to do the sleep study because the doctor required it. I ended up doing 2 nights as the first it was a mild case so they did not put on the mask so I had to do another test night with the mask. Of course each test cost $1500. My doctor required 2 week compliance which meant a min of 4 hrs a night with at least 70% compliance. I got my cpap in November. I had surgery Dec 1st and returned my machine by the end of December. I had already stopped snoring with the lost of 20 lbs. My husband's also had a sleep study and I think everyone is diagnosed with sleep apnea so they can charge insurance the machine and supplies. He had his surgery on Wednesday and we returned his machine today. Neither of our cases were severe or life threatening that we really needed a machine. Good Luck and know that unless you have other medical issues most likely you can discontinue at some point when you have lost enough weight.

Yeah, 17.5 lbs gained with surgery, about 5 days out, got to surgury weight, now 10 under. I still feel fatter now than I did before going in, belly still a bit puffy, and can't wear my jeans (which were totally loose and falling off before) Thank goodness I picked up a few summer dresses or I would be running around in robes! I babied myself with drinking that first week, and realized a few days ago, I can actually swallow about 1/2 an oz at a time now. belching is getting father apart, and if I feel like I have a "clog" or belch coming, I just stand up and walk around to get everything moving. Good luck!!

The incredible bouncing BMI!
lonestar5212 replied to smylie1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My BMI over the past 5 years has been a bouncing number also. I got approved last week. -
I was surprised as well. My list from my doctor is: Clear Liquid Diet in hospital (day of surgery + next day) Full Liquid Diet, 1-day post-op - 1-week post-op. Chopped Diet, 1-week post-op - 1-month post-op. Avoid foods with more than 2gm sugar alcohol 8 cups of fluid between meals Take multi-vitamins Exercise - No lifting over 10lbs first eight weeks after surgery. I do have the Premier Protein shakes, which I liked before the surgery, but after the only one I can tolerate is the chocolate one. I do like the clear one, but it is only 20g, but it also counts as a liquid, so that is a win-win. I was all prepared with caffeine-free coffee and everything, but I was told coffee is fine, so happy dance. I do like seaweed, so I am going to get some of those for snacks and just add protein powders to everything I can since 92 grams seems like a lot.

Work Travel - weight fluctuations (blah!)
Stacy_wls posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone! I just started back at work. My work generally required me to travel 4 days a week and typically work very long hours. This makes eating right and exercising more of a challenge. Yesterday as I was on my way back home, I was feeling great. My project is interesting and going great! I worked out everyday - found a yoga and spinning studio that I could drop in at. I ate well - with one not so fantastic, but not horrible meal out with the client and supplier. So I was just feeling like I had this - I could do it. This morning when I weight myself, I was up 1.2 lbs. It is so frustrating! The weight loss had already been slowing down, so I was hoping for a good drop. Could this be Water retention from the airline travel? I know this is normal and if I keep doing everything I should then things will move. But ahh! It is a mind f*!k. I hope everyone has a great Friday. thanks for listening. -
Wow I’m impressed with your diet. I’m 9 days out and still need to be on liquids another week. I cannot drink the protein drinks at all they sicken me. You seem to be doing great. I’d say keep working up to it and get your fluids. Sorry I’m not really helping but I’m so impressed by what your already doing
