Embarrassed by My Six Year Old
7 Bites_Jen posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am sitting here on the couch typing away and he starts playing with the skin on the underside of my upper arm. "Stop that!" I say. "But mama, it's funny! It's all wibbly-wobbly and stuff!" He replies as he continues to bat at it like a kitten batting at a ball of yarn. Yep. This is what a 100-lb loss gets ya! LOL That's okay. I'd rather have loose skin on my arms than an extra 100 pounds any day!! What's an embarrassing moment you've had since losing weight? -

Also congrats on your weight loss!!! Amazing! -
I was sleeved with dr kelly on 09/02 and like you I carry most all my weight in my stomach. My legs and arms are small, and my butt if you could call it that (lol) not really much there at all. I remember when I wanted to tone up and lose weight I worked on the stair master and elipictical those were so good for toning. Plus I use to love to run on the treadmill and my belly fat seem to melt away. I am just now trying to get back to the gym every other day, because I am in no way ready for running. I will have to work at that, but I have never seen the weight fall of so fast as I did when I got up to running. Each day I would run for as long as I could and then rest and before I knew it I could run for an entire hour. Talk about over all toning that made everything tight. At a year of working on the treadmill I was up to running at 7speed for an hour, wow that felt good. Then I became pg, had my son and haven't been back to the gym consistently in 4 years. Also, gym people tell me to add 15 minutes of weights everyday from the beginning, but for some reason I just couldn't get into weights. All though they really do the body good. I just found it boring. but seriously running will melt your belly. Let me know how it goes... Good luck! Laura

Husband Suddenly NOT Supporting Surgery
lisabug replied to daezeey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hubby still thinks that I am insane for doing this. He doesn't say anything negative, but doesn't think that I will follow through with this like everything else I've tried. He asked me if I was going to miss eating whatever I want. I will miss it I'm sure, but I will not miss being 250 lbs. He also has insecurities about me losing the weight and not wanting to be with him anymore. I think it is natural for them to go through all of this. My hubby has been much better over the last few days. It has finally sunk in that I am doing this with or without him. He has decided to go along this wild ride with me. Give your hubby some time. This is starting to become real for him and he has emotions to deal with too. You are his wife for better or worse. They love us now as we are and don't completely understand why we feel the need to change. Of course we all say for our health, but it is so much more than that. I would be lying if I said that was the reason I am doing this completely. Be honest with him about all the reasons. Some how it seems to help with the insecurites. This is 100% about you and not him and not your relationship. Good luck and be patient. I was ready to give up but give him time to work through this. -
Husband Suddenly NOT Supporting Surgery
daezeey replied to daezeey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much for all the support and kind words. Yesterday was a bit better as I let the anger go. Also I know in my mind and heart that I am moving forward with this no matter what other people think of it. That includes my hubby, I know he loves me no matter what and that fear is likely playing a big role in this attitude change. Sometimes I just find any advice from him hard to take as he is 5'6" and weighs a whole 130. To give you a visual on what that looks like, I buy him size small shirts and they fit a little big, pants are size 32 waist which are actually a bit big on him but he likes them a little bit loose. When we married he was a size 29 waist and I found it incredibly difficult to find him adult clothing that fit without looking way too big. To top it off his entire family consists of mostly average size and thin people. So he has never dealt with the weight stuff until he met me and my side of the family. Did I Thanks again for all the words of encouragement as I have boarded this train and refuse to get off until I reach my GOAL STATION -
1 week stall!!!! UUGGGGHHHH Are you serious!!!!!!
Nicole W replied to Hip's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the same boat. I lost about 9 pounds in the first week, and haven't lost since. I was talking to my surgeon today and he said that this weight loss isn't going to be a steady decline, it's going to be more like stairs. We're going to lose, stall, lose, stall... which is frustrating but he said as long as it's coming off, we have to be proud of that! I'm right there with ya. -

Amanda131 replied to Hip's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Hip- I was in the same boat as you. I actually ddn't lose a single pound week 2 or 3. But, I stayed the course and have dropped crazy weight in the weeks that followed (45 pounds in 6 weeks- 30 of the those pounds came in weeks 4,5 and 6). I guess the moral of the post is to stay focused on the end goal, eat and exercise right and things will eventually shake out the way they are supposed to. Granted, saying all that still doesn't make the frustration any easier to manage when that damn scale won't move! Good luck! Amanda -
Question To Old Timers
Back~To~Amy replied to vnjones's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am not an old timer but wanted to comment. I hope you don't mind. I a, part of a weekly support group run by a psychologist who is very involved with obese people and WLS people. He said the number one reason people aren't successful with the sleeve, either losing weight or maintaining it, is because of grazing. So, my advice to you is to work on stopping that. It is a very slippery slope. Good luck to you! -
What am I doing wrong?(weight problems)
Amanda R posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I track my calories on mfp. I eat around 1700-2,000 and exercise anywhere between 300-400 calories a day. I was down to 276 from 278 which is a big feat for me since for some reason I am not losing any weight. We ended up going out to eat and I probably had about 500 calories more than I should for that day, but figure no biggie I was going to burn it off from all the extra walking and such we were doing. Boy was I wrong. I gained 3 pounds in 1 day!!. I'm now up to almost 280. I'm about to freak because I have to weigh in soon. I thought maybe I just had too much salt or something and waited to try and weigh myself again the next day-nope still says almost 280. -
Me too.. I know most on here have had fills?? I went Monday and he pulled out .75cc I was filled 2 months ago to 1.5cc... Still have no clue where the rest of the fill went?? Then he fill me to over 2.??cc I feel a little restriction but I'm back today eatting 5 small meals. I just want to get my protein in so I'll start losing weight again. I'm going to give it a few weeks but If I'm still eating I'm going again for another fill.. I'm like you I wish I knew what that magic # was so I could have him fill me to it.. Sorry I'm no help!
-
Yep...stalls are most definitely a part of the process. I've learned to look at them in a positive light. During stalls your body usually shrinks and reduces in inches to catch up to the weight loss. Keep pushing! You will get there!

Sorry this is so long, but I am so frustrated this morning. I only have 1.25cc in a 4cc band. I've had 2 fills up to 1.5cc and each time the extra 1/4cc had to be taken out because I couldn't eat. Last time I thought maybe I didn't wait long enough for the swelling to settle before I had it taken out so this time I waited 2 weeks. It was over Christmas and New Years..I was miserable. Finally, my best friend and hubby made me call the doctor. I lost 13.9 lbs in those two weeks. After the fill was removed, I gained 5 lbs. I could live with that, I hadn't eaten in two weeks. Then the next couple of weeks I lost 1.5 and 6.5 lbs. This morning (I weigh every Monday morning), I had GAINED 13.2 lbs. I have been careful, I am exercising. I just can't seem to get to that 100 lb lost mark. Granted I am thankful for every pound I have lost. But it's not enough. I'm only 5'3" ranging between 206 and 193 is not good enough. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

I will add too... with the bypass you lose weight quick........ my 2 best real life girl friends have both had the RNY... One OPEN (4 years post op) and one LAP (2 years post op) Both lost around 120 lbs in the first year.... One now has gained a significant amount of weight back because she NEVER suffered from Dumping and could eat anything without suffering, but because of this her pouch is stretched back out and she is to the point of depression where she will not disclose exactly how much she has gained back...... she is now wishing that she could get the band around her newly stretched out pouch......... my other friend just had a tummy tuck and a boob lift and is doing fine. Both have that "look" that bypass patients often get because of the lack of nutrients..... I will say that both my friends are glad they had it done. Even the one who has gained... she is still significantly down from her top weight, but it is now a struggle to lose since her pouch is stretched back out.

Please - what does restriction feel like?
iluvlongnecks replied to noahsmomm's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded onApril 21st and have had 3 fills so far. I'm suppose to go back for another fill in a few weeks and I'm not sure I should. I have a total of 5 1/2 cc in my 8cc band and I have some restriction at times when I'm eating, depending on what I'm eating. I have to be very careful when eating and make sure I chew very well or I can feel the food having problems going thru. There is times that I have to just stop eating whatever I'm eating cuz it's having difficulty going down. I'm having great weight loss right now, but want it to continue.....sooo should I go in for another .5 fill in a couple weeks or not?????? -

First congratulation on ur weight lose. Mine hasn't yet been that major hopefully soon. Looking to have gastric bypass in april.. Well l have been working at reaching my pre opp weight I lost that plus some. Well last Sunday I was sitting in church service while 5 men members were singing church songs I had my bra brake. Being that I have financal struggles. I didn't have funds to run out and buy clothes for the weightloss I made . I had to keep adjusting the bra trying to hold up my chest.(take note I went from ddd to dd ) and I quit in church service. Felt one was supported while one was free. Omg talk about wronge place and timing. -
New- June 1 RNY surgery date Any Buddies please?
rosey442 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I just joined the group. My daughter suggested it as she herself is a successful 5 year RNY bypass patient. From watching her I kind of know pretty much what to expect. The good and the bad. I am 57 years old and a single parent. As for myself, I didn't really start to have a weight problem until after having kids. Through the years the weight slowly piled on. On top of that I developed type 2 insulin dependent diabetes in my late 30's. My youngest was born after I became diabetic. I also have several other chronic conditions as well. The last 3 years I have been in and out of the hospital with septicemia, cellulitis, osteomyelitis, diabetic foot ulcers, two partial toe amputations on both feet and diabetic ketoacidosis. It has roughly been every 4-6 months that I've been in the hospital for at least 1 1/2 to 2 weeks followed by 4-6 weeks of IV meds via PICC line plus home nurse visits, OT and PT visits. It's only been the last 5 months that my blood sugars have really been under control and that my feet have been healed. I was finally able to go and see the bariatric surgeon and start the process to finally reach the goal of having RNY gastric bypass surgery. I received my surgery date approximately 3 weeks ago. I am now on the last day and a half of my liquid diet before surgery. the Protein powder that my daughter gave me is disgusting (she just laughed and told me to get used to it. HA) and is difficult for me to choke down. I need to try different brands to find one that is more palatable for me. My biggest problem is that I have healthy (I am a good cook, like to cook and like to eat and enjoy food) eating habits. It's just that my portions are way too big compounded by the last 3 years of not being able to walk as the wound care doctors wanted me off my foot as much as possible. So, I became more sedentary. And, voila! I gained weight and couldn't lose it. So here I am and the big day is almost here. My daughter will be taking me to the hospital and staying with me. My son-in-law will come to the hospital after the kids go to school. He's staying home with the kids while my daughter stays with me for a week. My oldest son will be coming also to the hospital. My youngest son isn't (both of my sons are autistc) sure yet. My neighbor will cook and watch over my sons for me until I come home. Now that I've introduced myself, I'd love to hear from others. I am extremely excited and a little nervous. But it won't be long. Monday morning at 5:30am. I've also been thinking about the walking and eating. Anyone else having surgery on the 1st? Anyone willing to be buddies with me? -
Same thing started happening to me. I knew from past experience some would say it wasn't the weight loss it was my attitude so I did a little social experiment, I walked around with resting bitch face all day and still had more attention in one day than in the last 25 years of my life. People, both men and women, are attracted to what they see on the outside and smaller is more socially acceptable. I'm trying to not be pissed about it.
