    Gastric Bypass in Tijuana?

    My recovery is great! I had bad acid reflux the first week but it’s all but cleared up now. I’ve received several emails on nutrition since then and reminders, etc. In your case, it won’t matter which of the MGB or RNY bypass you do since you already had the sleeve. The mini can cause more reflux with the remnant stomach backing up into the pouch, but since yours was removed with the sleeve you shouldn’t have that issue. Statistically there’s less risk of complications with the mini outside of that but for either procedure it is very low. My Dr. didn’t tell me he was doing the mini until afterwards. There’s a lot of communication breakdown there but it’s not like they screwed up the surgery or anything. Be very careful with that. The coordinators don’t know anything about the procedures more than we do via google. The renew staff does speak English but they’re a parent co so you won’t necessarily see them 24/7 like you do the nurses. My stomach was partially removed (which makes it a SASI) to decrease ghrelin levels and reduce reflux risk since I already had GERD. They use CER hospital, which is only 7 years old and pretty nice. My bathroom there is nicer than the one back home! One family member/friend is allowed to come with you and stay the night at no charge and if you choose so you get a “suite” which gives an extra space and bed for said friend. The doctors there all speak English well but the nurses speak only a little so google translate helped a lot, lol. Some of the nursing practices are a little dated but I fixed anything that seemed off (I’m an RN). They were very attentive with wound care though I will say. As far as cleanliness goes, it’s the cleanest hospital I’ve ever seen! Sheets, towels, trash, etc are changed daily. I didn’t even use all of my towels bc I didn’t need that many. One week of meds for after surgery is given to you at no charge which is nice. Getting to know the other people in your cohort was the coolest part bc you all go through it together and support each other! I didn’t receive a video/Skype call from the Dr. beforehand but if you request it I’m sure they could do it. All bariatric procedures are done in the afternoons so he’s free in the mornings (cosmetic procedures are done in the AM). 1 night stay at The real inn hotel is part of your charge and it’s really nice and modern. I actually got mine for free bc one of the coordinators wrote down that I was waiving the hotel for the optional $100 reduction when I wasn’t, so they charged me $100 less but ended up comping the room anyway for me (I told you the coordinators don’t know what they’re doing.) I do wish there was better communication before the procedure so if you can get a Skype call with the doctor beforehand that would be great as communication is the main problem there. If you can get Dr. Green (you better book wayy ahead) then go for it bc everyone loves him. He even takes pics of the sleeve patients’ stomachs and gives them a copy, lol. Sometimes I wish I had him! I’m a lower bmi patient like you-my bmi was 31 when I signed up. I was the smallest one there but no one cared. Overall, it’s a good experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat 💗

    YEESSSS!! I feel this in my soul! I can't believe how much I miss salad and I am only 6 weeks post-op. I have had some raw veggies and slowly adding my favorites back into my diet to see how my stomach does. Lettuce/spinach etc. is last as apparently it is the hardest to digest. But I CAN NOT WAIT!!

    Love that quote: "...remind myself its not a race its not a competition its a life change" Right on! I hit about a 5 week stall in February where I was sure I'd be forever. I went back to rigorously consuming protein only in the morning with no carbs until afternoon, no eating after 7pm and drinking as much water as possible. It evidently triggered my metabolism and I have lost another 12 lbs since then. I still have a very strong restriction, so eating a big meal is off the charts uncomfortable for me. I pray that is always the case because my head still feels like more is better. Cheers to our next year of HEALTH AND WELL BEING!
  5. I have lost count too. My body is really weird. I have "stalled" almost every month. It ranges from 10 days to 2 weeks. The longest for me so far is 15 days. Usually the first 2 weeks of the month, then I get a big drop. My 9th month now, and I just got the 4.5 lb drop at the end of April. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app

    May Surgeries - check in!

    I don't hit my one year until the end of the month. I keep wondering if I'm at where I'm going to land. I've been hovering around the same weight for about 6 weeks now. I have lost 77 lbs, started at 245, now around 168. (For context I'm 5'9", 49 y.o.) My highest adult weight was around 268..so in the grand scheme, I'm down 100 from my highest weight. I certainly have loose skin - and I have given consideration to getting my stomach and and arms done once things settle. I have still lost inches in the last couple months, so things are still changing. I am prefectly fine if this where I land. I have practically replaced my entire wardrobe, at this size 😂

    Today marks one year exactly for me since my surgery and while these last few pounds have been so hard Im only 5 lbs from goal. I can not believe that its only been a year. I started my journey approx a year and a half ago and truly didn't think I would be this close to goal already. I have had some slip ups, some stalls and have thrown up from overeating but I just get back on track and remind myself its not a race its not a competition its a life change

    That is really pretty good for this stage of your post surgical diet. I find Tuna was always my best food to go down easily, stay down and have a ton of protein. I still eat tuna 4-5 times a week for lunch. I have always been a fan of tuna so it is not something I have grown tired of.

    First of all, everything you are feeling is completely normal. Those first couple of weeks when you are trying to figure out liquid intake and how to get in protein, its all a little overwhelming. And the weird, water logged, sloshy feeling is also normal. I don't think I really felt "right" until I moved to thicker purees. Keep doing what you're doing and you will find that it gets easier over time. That being said, I purchased a Hydrate Spark water bottle to log water intake. Its definitely a pricey investment, but it has been extremely helpful. It sends me notifications to remind me to drink, it logs all of my water, etc. I also use Just Better Fiber daily to help manage some of the other "issues" and it has helped tremendously. I started with one tablespoon a day and worked up to 3-4. It has been a game changer!

    and it was glorious lmao. So far today i had 2 quail eggs (they are tiny) No issues. and just finished a pouch of light tuna. The tuna took me over an hour to eat that little 2.6oz pouch. But it was nice! My 2 week follow up is today in a couple hours.

    you can get a water bottle at walmart or any store that has measurements on it. That is how i keep track or simply drink from the standard 16oz water bottles you buy at the store. Also it took me about 4-5 days to finally go number 2. I have seen some say it take a week. hopefully your doctor provided a script for stool softeners because the 1st one is a doozy. But i simply just take sips of water through out the day. I also bought on amazon like 100 of those little 1 ounce cups. and i drink my protein with that. Makes it easier. I poor 1 little cup at a time. and when i feel like taking another i pour another little cup.

    Gastric Bypass in Tijuana?

    I used Dr. Armenta with Renew Bariatrics in Tijuana. He’s a hottie, I ain’t gonna lie. A lot of people use Dr. Green there but he’s so popular that he’s booked up 2-3 months out. Mine was a week ago so can’t comment yet on results. I had the SASI (mini gastric bypass plus sleeve removal) Cost was $5600 but is $5800 now. Make sure you ask tons of questions of the surgeon bc the coordinators don’t know what’s going on. It was all Americans in my cohort. The hospital policy is 30+ bmi but I’m not sure if they would make an exception for a revision. Worst case scenario is you could gain 10 lbs and then have it.

    Hi Possum, Yes I'm getting a two-for-one deal LOL I'm so glad that it's going to get fixed and I'm finally going to have a peaceful nights sleep without the fear of waking up with acid rushing up! Apparently when I lose the weight the hernia will not return, it's weight-related as I've been told by my surgeon, I'm supposed to be on two shakes plus low starch low carb vegetables but I haven't started it yet. I'll start right after mother's day lol I've already lost 13 kilos with my own efforts anyway so I'm assuming 1 week of liquid diet should be sufficient. Hope they can fix yours as well and all the best to you on the 9th keep me updated please! We got this girl! lol

    Absolutely hate myself now

    First off, take a deep breath in and out. You’re still early on in your journey. A couple more weeks and you’ll be able to eat whatever you want again just in moderation (like we’re supposed to eat). This will pass. Change is hard. Many of us are able to lose weight on our own but that’s not what the surgery is about. It’s about “maintaining” it and removing the potential for many health comorbidities that could kill us without early intervention. Heck, I got down to a size 2 on my own but couldn’t maintain it and gained it all back plus some. God gives us blessings in ways that we won’t know until the future but it’s all apart of his plan. My own father had WLS but didn’t follow the rules and gained it all back and passed away of a heart attack a few years later. Don’t let these temporary early weeks push you off the bandwagon. You only have one life to live. It will get easier I promise! With love, Quesodip251
  16. Lost 12 lbs in 5 days pre op and post op lost 9 lbs. now stalling at same weight for one week. I feel very discouraged but like others I hope I start losing the weight soon.

    Stall or too many calories?

    How long since you've lost weight? If its only a short period of time its likely to be a stall. If its a long period of time, have you checked in with your team to go over your food intake. The goals previously given for protein intake may not be applicable now. Are you execising at all?
  18. Hi guys. I am exactly 3 months post op from yesterdays date and I have noticed my weight loss has come to a stop. I am curious as to wether you guys think it’s a stall or am I eating too much? I got covid 2 months post op , before that I was around 600-890 calories a day. After covid my appetite shot up and I’ve now been averaging between 950-1100 calories a day. if I go under that amount I am hungry and get really snappy. I feel so depressed when I look at other peoples calories 3 months out who average at about 800 and still “ struggle “ to eat. Because I don’t anymore and this surgery was my last option at trying to loose weight and I feel like I’ve failed with this now and like everything I try to help me loose weight nothing will ever work for me. a typical day for me looks like this Pre breakfast- Actimel 0% and a Caramel Latte (58 calories) can’t go without my morning latte. breakfast- varies but lately I’ve been having 2 bacon medallions (79 calories) 2 reduced fat pork sausages (162) heinz beans 80G (58 calories) And spoonful of mushrooms ( don’t count the calories as they are too low to workout) so breakfast is quite a big portion in my opinion lunch- chicken with mushrooms new potatoes and green beans (281 calories) or a folded flatbread (102 calories) with roast chicken inside (62 calories) followed also inside by some lettuce and reduced fat sour cream (35 calories) and a dairy Lee dunker (98 calories) tea - Chicken breast (126 calories ) with Mediterranean veg (88 calories) or Haddock with med veg Or reduced fat beef burger on a romaine lettuce leaf with a slice of RF cheese and lighter than light Mayo. snacks usually consist of light baby bels, chicken satay sticks , the small packs of fridge raiders or an options hot chocolate (38 calories ) some days I hit over 100G protein, carbs I eat between 50G/80G fat is under 40G a day, sugar is always under 20G would love ur opinions tips and tricks guys. for reference my programme/consultant never gave me calories to follow was just to always hit my protein goals and my start weight was 21 stone 9 pounds , I am currently 17 stone 12 pounds and 5’5.

    blood pressure changes

    How long did it take for y'all to see the change to your bp? I wasn't on meds before surgery but I as given some the night of my surgery because it was to high. My bp is still on the high side a week after surgery. My blood sugar still hasn't gone down either. But my surgeon wanted me to go off my metformin. So I did🤷🏼‍♀️
  20. I've lost count, and I'm almost 8 months out. The longest has been about three weeks? I have them so often I'm just used to it now. Another one just broke this week. Another one will inevitably start in another week or so, and 'round and 'round I go. Not from a year+ person, I know, but I'm clearly never going to stop stalling.
  21. It sounds lovely. Soothing self care. How was the hibiclens? Does it smell ok? Do you get it from the drugstore? I’m 2 weeks away. And, yes, I’m going to have a mini home spa the day before. Distract myself from the clear liquids!

    How long are you missing work?

    I never would have even known to look into it at all, so thank you for telling me about it. I feel so much better with 2 weeks off. I feel like I can relax, sleep, go at my own pace.
  24. I was a not hungry or interested in eating person too. I’m glad it lasted for quite some time. But I knew I had to eat & did find eating to a routine helped me meet my goals. Don’t worry too much if you can’t meet your caloric goals yet. Focus on getting all your protein in first, then vegetables & then carbs & starch last if you can. Make sure you let your dietician know you’re struggling with the quantity of food at the moment. You can only eat what you can physically eat. The change to your taste buds & maybe sense of smell is temporary so things that taste disgusting now will be okay again in a few weeks. Also your tummy can be a bit sensitive & their may be foods that just don’t sit comfortably or heavily. Usually this passes too but there may be things that you will always have to avoid. I still can’t eat bread, rice, pasta (even vegetable low carb ones) & potatoes. Try some plant based proteins until you want to try meat again.

    Post Surgery Diet

    It does happen to some. Sometimes temporarily as their tummy is just still a bit sensitive. Some embrace the opportunity to explore & incorporate plant based proteins. You don’t have to give up on animal proteins just take a break & see how you go. You just might need a couple more weeks. Our tummies can be fussy at first. And there may be things long term that don’t sit as well as others. Chicken, especially breast, is one that often doesn’t. Bread, pasta, rice & potatoes still tend to sit like a lump. Tried a little mashed potato on a shepherd’s pie a couple of weeks back & groan.
