    Revision

I was sure you were going to say you had vsg and was revising to bypass. I haven't heard of someone having Barrett's after bypass. I am very curious about this. I am interested in knowing what the surgeon says about this. I myself am getting ready to revise to bypass from Vsg before I end up with Barrett's myself. I'm sorry...I don't have any input on the insurance question

    Revision

Did he offer an explanation as to why acid reflux occurred after bypass? This is disheartening to hear since I'm getting ready to revise. I know it's probably not the norm but I have been suffering horribly for 2 years now and want rid of it. Just the thought there's a possibility I would not get rid of it scares the crap out of me. I would seriously lose my mind.
  4. Thanks so much for the responses! I feel a lot better about the revision surgery now.
  5. I don't buy that either. . . I just had my band removed last wednesday and revised to the sleeve. I am thoroughly convinced this is the way to go and have no regrets. You can just follow my results here to see if I have slow weight loss. It just isn't going to happen. I have every bit of confidence that the rest of my excess weight will be gone in 6 months . . . I follow the meal program, allow the sleeve to keep me from overeating, and keep up a good exercise program and the weight will start pealing off. Just read all the successful band to sleeve postings here and all the weight they have lost. There may be the occasional slow WL person but that will probably be due to some other parameter . . . like maybe grazing . . or eating high sugar items and high fat items. . . Will keep you all updated on my progress and we shall see how it works. I had lost 83 with the band and then gained 35 of it back. Then a dr. visit started the process to the sleeve revision. During the 4 weeks prior to surgery while I still had the band that was not providing restriction I followed the meal program and exercised like crazy( power walked 63 miles) and lost all 35 lbs I had gained. That weigh in was just before they took me up for surgery. I was elated with that success. Now it is all sleeve WL from here on out. I haven't hardly had any pain or nausea . . . I walked 3/4 miles yesterday and am headed out today to see if I can cover 2 miles. I am getting all my Protein in and 64 oz of fluids and doing really well. Good luck with your surgery. Bob
  6. Well if you can't get your insurance to cover it, there's always Dr. Aceves in Mexicali - his regular price is $9500 for a sleeve, not sure what a revision price is; others will know. He's absolutely fantastic.
  7. Hi adavis, and welcome to the forums. Life with the sleeve is completely different than it is with the band. I had no idea just how badly my band had affected my quality of life until I revised to the sleeve. With the band, it occupied my mind 24/7. I was always thinking about if we go here, what will they have that my band will tolerate? Should I eat lunch with my coworkers or skip it again to avoid the pb embarrassment? I mean it literally affected every aspect of my life. With the sleeve, you really don't think or worry about that stuff anymore. I have found there is nothing I can't eat, nothing gets stuck and I have no worries. You can eat anything, just not as much of it. Now, granted, if you eat to much, you will be miserable, but that is part of the learning process of listening to your body and knowing when you are full and need to stop eating.

    Revison

Hello I was wanting to talk to someone who had lapband surgery then had a revision to the gastric sleeve. Would you do it again? If so why?

    Is the lap band healthy?

I think the Band works differently on different people. Not sure if it has to do with the type of Band... fill docs... or whatever. Some people PB a ton from the get-go regardless of what they eat. Others never have a PB at all. What I do believe is that you need to work to be successful with as little fill as possible? Why? Because in general, the smaller the fill, the more healthful/normal foods you can eat. The smaller the fill, the more calories you're probably getting (although not too many), so your metabolism doesn't shut down. You also leave yourself more room for success. I know that when I got super-tight... when barely anythign would go down... that's when I turned to the junk food that somehow always made it down. At this point, I was starving... eating so little... and desperate, so I turned to food, any food, for nourishment. My nails were shot... hair looked like crap, etc. Removing some fill lead to better choices, and eventually more weight loss. Of course, now it's been three years since I've had a fill. Had to have the one I had in March (I think) removed because it gave me problems. Was planning on revising to a VSG (Vertical Sleeve)... but became preggers again. I will say that even though my Band can go crazy during pregnancy, even with no fills (like when you have your period)... it is still comforting to know that I have the Band vs. a malabsorption surgery during pregnancy. As for the MGB, I looked into having that done in 1999 when I started my WLS research. Have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Rutledge. He has published some great long-term data on the MGB, covering a ton of patients. You can check it out at his site, which used to be clos.net Not sure if that still works.

    No Easy Road Here

(((Mary))) I'm so sorry you're having problems, but I'm glad you're going to the doctor. IIRC, you had a band to sleeve revision? I hope that everything is okay for you. I know it's tough when you can't even hold water down. Please let us know what the doctor says.
  11. I'm hoping this will be more the case for me, versus the 4+ hour ones I've heard of here. Looks like you're down quite a bit in the short time since your revision. Nice!
  12. So you did the revision in two procedures?
  13. I had the revision surgery 6 weeks ago.I am so happy getting the band removed.I lost 75 lbs from the band and was always sick.I was 25 lbs from my goal weight but my dr told me My body has been rejecting it and he had to take all the fluid out and I gained 40 lbs.My health was getting worse and my diabetes was geeting worse.I have lost 22 lbs in 6 weeks and i saw my general practioner and he could tell thedifference for my physical.I am a heart patient and January my condition deteriated. He told me when I saw him he didnt know i wuld make it by the end of the year.My bloodsugar has dropped from a fasting 180 to a average of 100-130.My nurse practationer shared with me the people that endured the band have much better reults you will love the diferance
  14. Meley24 Get a revision...get the lap band out... I'd really love to have an skype consult with you. It's free and I'm going to explain the metabolic aspects of weight loss surgery and why the sleeve or bypass are much definitive options thsn the lap band. If prople and even surgeons keep thinking about restriction as the main mechanism for weight loss they are going to fail in understanding the problen and of course, to fight it. Please check the videos on my website (undestanding obesity) at www.doctoraltamirano.com or send me an email to dra@bariatricpal.com to shcedule an appointment. Greetings Well said coming from someone who knows!
  15. I am having a revision surgery myself due to my lap band constantly slipping and causing issues. I am extremely excited as a co-worker of mine had a revision as well last October and has had fabulous results! Hopefully, this will help put you at ease. My surgery date is rapidly approaching on August 31st! Best of luck to you!

    What's wrong???

I had that problem and it turned out my esophagus was very dilated. It turned out that I was using my esophagus for a stomach. I had my band removed and had a revision surgery to a sleeve and I am so much happier. I can only eat small portions of any food I want and I am FULL.
  17. I think she's saying two docs have said it wasn't done properly. I'm not any kind of medical expert, but the shape does look odd to me. I don't think it's supposed to be barbell-shaped like that. I also think that you should have lost more weight, so maybe the sleeve just didn't work for you. It happens. If it was me, I would think long and hard about revising to something else though, since sleeve didn't work for you the first time around. Maybe try a different procedure? Confused!!!!

I am with Free on this. What it boils down to is money, it's all about the money. To have the RNY here is an additionl 12 grand. That is 12 grand for about an hour and a half of extra work. Over the last 2 years I have been folowing gene theropy. I am only 34 and if the band fails me hopefully in the next 10 to 15 years gene theropy will be available. I am thankful that I was denied 2 1/2 years ago by my insurance for the RNY. I was not interested in lining someones pockets nor was I willing to be replumbed. Which by the way it ticks me off big time when I have a doctor try to talk me down to a lower price for my services ( I have a lawn and landscape business ) yet they won't budge on their highly priced services. Sure they got overhead as well but I do to. Sorry for the rant. Anyway I know several women that had RNY and they are steadily gaining weight becasue of the stretched "new" stomach. So in theory you will be in the same boat either way. Also it would be far less invase to remove a band vs. revised RNY.

    Spouse or Sig other

Well like I posted before - we have to live our truths - and this is what you did. In trying to keep everyone else happy we often waste alot of time and compromise on something that just doesn't work. I feel sorry for her - but if you communicated that you wanted her to participate in a lifestyle change and she wasn't interested - there is nothing you can really do. Loving someone and being IN love are two different things. After 12 years with my new husband I am still IN love and we make all our decisions together - including how we live. In saying that - the recent decision to do this revision surgery was mine alone - he still thinks I am beautiful no matter what - but he is paying for the surgery and supporting me - and said last night - that he wanted to loose his little pot belly and would be able to do it - if I wasn't cooking all the good food. Good luck to you, don't make the ex's life a misery or rub it in - just make sure you really know what you doing the next time around - and love someone for the person they are - with the thoughts that things do change. Glenda

    Now I'm mad

Hi, I am 2 yrs out I have not been successful with ,y weight loss goals, I considered going back for a revision, but I wanted to see if i could jump start my weight loss without the revision any suggestions?
  21. A BMI of 20 or 30? Really? A BMI of 20 puts you at a completely normal weight. 30 is obese. So there is quite a gap between the two. My surgeon won't even consider performing vsg surgery unless you are at least 35 bmi, or lower in the case of revision from lapband to sleeve. I know all surgeons are different. I understand your frustration with gaining and losing the same weight over and over again. Keep doing your research regarding BMI, and maybe try a consultation with a bariatric surgeon. I think that will give you a little more insight. Good luck in your journey.

Everyone's losing weight faster than me

Glad I found this thread, my revision was 4/18/16 and so far 35 lbs down. Was sooooo discouraged cause I have a friend who got it done (just sleeve not band to sleeve) and is down 79 and she got it done 2 wks after me. Now that I've read everyone's post, I feel much better. I've even had some cheat meals, but haven't gained anything.

    Revision rants

Omg yes! I hated posting there, I had so many complications and was so sick. And when I would post to vent or for support they treated me like I was a freaking moron who couldn't figure out how to utilize the band and all my complications were no big deal. I haven't been on there in a year now because of it. I joined this one when I started my journey to revision. 2months post op and feel 100x's better!
  24. I'm a revision & had no reflux with the band. I'm 3 weeks post op & have reflux all the time. I have been taking prilosec everyday & if I miss one day, the reflux is back. Not sure why I have this issue now, never had it before!
  25. I also have the band as on May 7th I will be having a revision to the bypass. I don't weigh much more than you. I found out I have Barrett's esophagus and I cannot do the sleeve. I was told in most cases the bypass cures acid reflux. Anyhow, I've wrapped my head around it. Side note, this is my 3rd wls surgery. I had an a Molina band that didn't adjust ( first band used) It tightened up on me and I couldn't keep food down. I went from 310 to 119, size 2. I had it revised to the adjustable band on 2007. I had foot surgery and gained about 30ish lbs. this year. I had no real issues with band but I went to talk to wls surgeon anyways and found out my esophagus was turning into a stomach and that contributed to the weight gain and then found out with scope biopsy I have Barrett's, precancerous cells. The band has to come out I know I need a tool so if bypass is what I have to do so be it. I would love to keep on touch with both of y'all. I don't understand this site fully, but if u know how add me. . Wednesday at 7, go time
