    Weight Watchers Online: Support Thread

Skinny, OMG me too! I was so bad last Satuday after I found out I had lost I turned around and ate like mad (and had wine and alcohol which I RARLEY ever do) I ate candy the whole thing. But I did great with food yesterday and am back on track. Yesterday I did my elliptical for 4 miles 60 min. and today am headed out for a spin class at the gym So far today I had coffee & milk 1 point 30g protein shake 4 points banana & blueberry smoothie with greek yogurt 4 points so I am good and off to go sweat!
  2. @@ilikecake2much - Welcome!! Your doctor must have had a reason to recommend you for bariatric surgery.......besides just being overweight. My PCP made the same suggestion because I was diagnosed in 2013 with non-alcoholic FATTY LIVER, which a lot, if not most, obese people probably have. I also had diabetes, albeit controlled with food, exercise, and Metformin, and high BP which had been diagnose a couple years before the liver issue. He felt WLS was the best opportunity for me to lose the 100 lbs. he said it would take in order to halt the progression of the fatty liver disease and all the bad stuff that can come with that, i.e. cirrhosis. I took about a year to read, research, and talk to everyone I'd known who had been through WLS. I, too, felt like it was such a drastic route to take to lose weight, but as my PCP said, "I know what you're already doing, and what you've already done, to try and lose weight and it's not been working well for you." Once I started thinking of WLS as a tool to lose the weight for MY HEALTH, and not as a shortcut to lose weight just for the sake of losing weight and looking better, then I was ready to make the commitment to scheduling the surgery. I wish you well on YOUR journey! Know that the new lifestyle you create for yourself by having WLS is for LIFE! Literally and figuratively. For every pound we lose, we're that much healthier!! March 31, 2015 - Tuesday Reality Check It's important to not undermine your commitment to weight loss by telling yourself, “Maybe I don’t really need/want to lose weight,” or “Maybe I don’t actually have to do these things.” If you do, you will have a much, much harder time getting yourself to just do what you need to do. Start at a lower dose than you normally would. Like alcohol you will absorb more if you are bypass. I made that mistake and got super sick and fainted. Mortifying!!!

    I'm 21 and freaking out!

Well I'm already about a month out from the surgery so no, I can't cancel it. I don't regret the surgery and I am by no means choosing alcohol over a healthy life. My main question was this: will it be realistic for me to have a drink or two before I graduate. Nothing crazy, no college binge drinking, but just a drink. I am excited that I went through with this at a young age because it means more time to be healthy. I'm working my ass off and doing everything else I'm supposed to do and it's working. Trust me when I say I have a good head on my shoulders. I am ready for this journey and I have been doing really well. I really don't appreciate all of the people telling me to quit. I wasn't asking to live on fast food for the rest of my life all I was asking about was a drink here and there or if anyone had any advice on socializing at bars and parties or if anyone was in the same boat as me.
  5. Just got home today. I had surgery on the 25th.. Very little pain but the nausea is really tough Every time I try to drink I feel like i'm gong to lose it again. I'll power through cause I have to. If the nausea is only for a few days, I can deal, but if it is longer it is going to cause a serious dehydration and nutrition problem. Anybody just recently sleeved find they have an increased sense of smell? I do and it makes we want to puke. When the nurses gave medicine through the IV and used alcohol to wipe the tube I got very nauseated from the rubbing alcohol smell. Go figure!

    Britney, Britney, Britney

I wouldn't be at all surprised if she's mentally ill. Between that and her alleged drug/alcohol use, I'm surprised she's alive right now. I think she grew up being surrounded by a lot of "yes-men," with little to no adult guidance. I see a lot of people saying, "if only her mother were here," but I doubt that would help. Her mother should have been there ten years ago, teaching her how to be a responsible adult. I think she's been indulged by just about every person in her life and I think it's finally gotten to the point of her not knowing how to be an adult out on her own.

hi guys! sherry hang in there girl! i went through the same thing 5 lbs btwn dec and may and it sucked! i got a fill and changed my eating habits. i eat really slowly and eat smaller meals and try not to eat late. i even started wearing teeth whitening strips at 9:30pm, my break down time!! it helped. i have been on a reg sugar and caffeine and alcohol free diet since ivf and have gained back about 5 lbs btwn that and hormones. i never realized how much i had changed my diet since sx until i couldn't eat anything sugar free or sugar substitute!!! we do this for us and it isn't easy but you are doing great!!! we all are, we just do it on our own time and in our own way! believe me at the reunion, there was a girl who had her sx the week before me and was down 110lbs, i wanted to punch her smack in the face! ha, ha! deb - congrats on the quitting smoking! my dh smokes and he is thinking about the rx too! if you need to gnosh eat celery or air popped popcorn! you burn more calories chewing than what goes in. you can do it! enjy the camp, i'm jealous!!!! hey chrispy! miss you! so when is our get together? i think our last one was in dec or jan unless i missed one!!! when and where? i can;t do next weekend or sat the 21st, bachelorette party! most of aug works well for me! good luck on the upsoming sx's! i didn;t have a specific preop diet but 10 lbs was recommended. try to elimiate soda and straws now, it makes it easier later! i haven't had a pop since last may, except for a few sips here and there. no beer either! that part sucks BIG TIME! if you are a beer drinker, i was. i will also say that getting to the gym pre op helps as well and start lifting weights, muscle builds more calories than fat! dez
  8. I still haven't gotten sick or anything. Sugar doesn't bother me. .neither does alcohol sugar. Will be careful though still avoiding sugary foods so it doesn't effect my weight loss. I was approved for Insure Nutrition shakes through insurance. .then found out they scam insurance companies by charging $5000 a month for Protein Shakes and supplements. Before my order was processed I called them to cancel it. They said ok it's canceled. .then the next day I checked my insurance and saw they processed it even though they said they canceled it. Insure Nutrition is a scam.
  9. Looks like I may be the only participant left in this challenge. But this week was huge for me. My best friend killed himself last Sunday. Despite the grief and anger and guilt and despair and helplessness, I managed to make it through the whole week without turning to alcohol. Five hour memorial get together yesterday and I drank 5 bottles of Water instead of getting drunk like most everyone else. And considering I drank every single day for almost 2 years after my brothers death, this was no small feat for me. Despite being nearly suffocated with emotions, we have to go back to work tomorrow (his widow is my other best friend and work partner). That might be even harder than this last week has been and I will be taking advantage of the meds my PCP prescribed. He also has a 10 year old son that is our #1 priority on helping get through this tragedy with the least amount of emotional scarring as possible. He was the kindest, gentle hearted, most generous and hard working man I ever knew. The pain he hid so well and my inability to help him will haunt me forever.
  10. After you've lost all your excess weight and are in the maintenance phase of WLS life -- either newly or several years down the road -- what's the best eating path for you to follow? There are at least three major schools of thought about how to eat during WLS maintenance, with hybrids of these approaches. Each approach has enthusiastic boosters and rabid opponents among WLS patients. Each approach is espoused by some WLS surgeons, nutritionists, psychologists, bloggers, coaches, and those who sell WLS products. (1) Abstinence Approach: WLS patients should abstain forever from specific foods, especially those that contain sugar, processed carbs or alcohol. Proponents of the abstinence approach to maintenance offer advice to WLS patients like this: "Bread is empty calories and a waste of valuable pouch space." At http://www.bariatriceating.com/2016/02/can-versus-difference/ "Say no to alcohol." At http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/364081-bariatric-realities-%E2%80%93-medical-professionals%E2%80%99-guidelines-about-alcohol-use-wls/?hl=%20stapleton (2) No Dieting Approach: Some WLS patients report that they have maintained their weight losses by eating in moderation all foods that appeal to them. "I didn't have WLS to be on a diet the rest of my life" is a refrain often heard from this group. The major tool in this approach to WLS maintenance is portion control. (3) Mindful Moderation Approach: This approach has a foot in both the abstinence and non-dieting camps. Those who follow this approach select their foods based primarily on nutritional content, but indulge occasionally in the kinds of "treats" eschewed by abstainers. They endeavor to observe their feelings and behaviors around food choices and use this information to inform future choices. Recognizing that all WLS patients are not alike -- we vary considerably with regard to our surgery types, complications, physical and mental health challenges, emotional resources, basal metabolic rates, degree of family support, access to therapy/counseling, macronutrient tracking (with an app or mentally), physical exercise (intensity and frequency), etc. -- which maintenance approach works best for you? EDIT: Or if you know of other approaches to successful maintenance you think work well, please describe them here.
  11. You also need to know what the med was, how much they gave you, what happened. Cuz any future operation will ask if you've ever had probs with anesthesia. They will need specifics to make sure it doesn't happen to you again! You also need to be very honest with them about your history of drug and alcohol consumption, cuz it all plays into how much anesthesia or pain meds they have to give you to have you receive the effect. So sorry you had this scary time!!!! ((hugs))

    Call the Bariatrics police!

Google "Alcohol after Bariatric Sleeve" and you'll find plenty of information on it. 2 weeks out and over a bottle and a half of wine as well as other drinks, probably not smart. A couple of ounces a few months out, probably not a huge deal.

    June 2019 sleevers

I've pretty much been drinking nonstop. (Sadly no alcohol.) My surgery is the 7th. I get into the office and have all my beverages lined up -- tea, crystal light, protein shake. If I'm in the bathroom every 5 minutes, I can't kill anyone. LOL Hang in there, Stitches! Sent from my SM-G970U using BariatricPal mobile app

Start keeping a list to keep your sanity! Like the bumper sticker KILL THEM ALL; GOD CAN SORT THEM OUT LATER! Keep muttering This Too Shall Pass! And it will! I knew I had NASH, let's see, non alcoholic Steatohepatitis, is what it really means, in lay terms a Fat Liver, so I did a Liver-shrink the entire month of August 2018, for every week you do it your liver shrinks 4%, so mine was between 12-16% smaller for my surgery. It worked, it worked, and my surgeon complimented me on my mini-liver, told me it was as smooth, small and healthy as a new-born calf, once I was certain he didn't plan to sell me for veal, I was complimented for my hard work. But you do turn into a Stormin' Norma foe awhile. Tomkitten, my son, said like the lepers in the Bible he should have been in front of me carrying a sign" DANGER-STARVING MAMA-BEWARE EVERYONE! But it worked, I lost 15 pounds, felt I had done something to be prepared, and it ended well on Surgery Day! And those are lofty goals.
  16. I’m hoping that I start losing it soon. I don’t eat carbs, drink juice or alcohol. I should be losing way more. It’s frustrating.

My horrible experience at a restaurant.

I can appreciate your irritation, although...a $7 burger isn't really a fancy place to eat. If your total bill for a burger, presumably two non-alcoholic drinks, and a $3 split fee was $17, I feel like they're holding themselves a bit high as a "nice" establishment. Given the way you were treated, I tend to think their behavior supports the point that they aren't the fine dining they seem to consider themselves to be. That being said, I haven't ever been charged a split fee because I don't really split things. I eat what I want to, then take it home or let someone else at my table eat it. Margins on actual fine dining are slim, and you aren't being charged a $3 fee to actually cut the burger, just like a corkage fee has nothing to do with the manual act of removing a cork, but rather the right to split a meal or to bring your own bottle of wine, when to do so without any minor fee is really not customary practice. It certainly would have been nice though if they had put somewhere on the menu that the fee existed. At a nice place, I can see economically the purpose of a split fee and most people paying to eat at a nice place, first don't care about the $3 and probably don't notice it on their bill, and second at an actual nice place, there would not have been any attitude from a manager, the fee would have been removed. The difference in my experience between a classy place to eat and a place that likes to think its classy is that there is an understanding that you sometimes lose a few dollars, but you make up for it in customer loyalty. A truly nice establishment handles the customer in a way that leaves them feeling happy...sure they complain about you when you leave and they roll their eyes when you aren't looking, but they are never, ever rude to your face or in front of any other customer. They certainly don't have their family members replying to your Yelp comments- that would make them look incredibly stupid and any person who was accustomed to eating in nice places would absolutely avoid going somewhere that responded that way on social media if only because it clearly demonstrates a total lack of class. So...sure, a split fee is normal sometimes, and I understand that you were surprised by it, but I find the behavior of the business to be unacceptable if they are going to cast themselves as being a better than average place to dine. I wouldn't go there after seeing that exchange on social media because it reeks of a scene- something that you will rarely if ever see in a nice place, and certainly not in a way that is exacerbated by management. I'm sorry you were treated poorly, but if it makes you feel better, places like that rarely last very long for all of the reasons I've mentioned above. They will be sad soon enough, lol.

    5 Confessions (Join In)

I confess that: 1. Ten days postop I ate (melted) a snack Reese cup; 2. I have become a nutrition a*****e with my poor (and healthy/fit) wife, and made her start using MFP; 3. I throw my fat clothes in the trash rather than give them away; 4. I feel superior to my fat friends; 5. I don't care one whit about never drinking alcohol again, but I started recreationally smoking (not tobacco) ASAP. It calms my stomach, makes me NOT hungry, and motivates me to exercise. Don't knock it until you try it; 6. Even though I've told everyone about the surgery, I'm not sharing/posting any photos because I want to milk EVERY drop of WOW factor from the first time they see me.

    5 Confessions (Join In)

I confess: I had my blood work for my 1 year appointment today, and I lied about fasting. I'd had coffee and a protein shake. I'm not sure why I had to fast in the first place and didn't realize it until it was too late. I'm worried I won't have a weight loss to show when I go for my 1 year appointment later this month -- it has been May since I've lost any weight. I think my sleeve has helped me lose all the weight I am going to lose. If I lose more, it will be because I stick to the plan as far as eating and exercising. I will not lose more without exercise. I have a hard time determining my portion sizes when eating food I make at home. I think this might be a place where I can improve my diet, so I've bought smaller dishes (4 ounce sizes) and a digital food scale to help me get more accurate calorie counts for home cooked food. I need to quit drinking alcohol. A frozen margarita sounds SO good on a hot summer day. I can easily pass up a 100 calorie snack, but it is harder to pass on an alcoholic drink. I think knowing the actual calories will make it easier to turn it down. When I learned those frozen premade margaritas have 300 calories, they lost their appeal. It is shocking that one drink can be a third to a half of the calorie count of my normal intake. I feel like my belly is getting bigger although my weight hasn't changed. I'm afraid to measure in case I'm right. I love it when someone asks me what my pant size or weight is, and they get this shocked look when they realize I am now smaller or the same size as they are...
  21. I had my surgery January 16th with Dr Oritz and I am sooooo pleased! I am down 33 lbs and the surgery has been the answer to my problems! It has controlled my binge eating! My only complaint is that eating out is no fun! Socializing is difficult! Alcoholic beverages are not tolerated at all and since we can't eat and drink at the same time anymore it's awkward at times!! But overall I am very happy! I am in clothes that haven't fit me in years and feeling really good!!
  22. This whole idea of cheats doesn't really sit well with me. I do eat 'unnecessary' foods, but just in very small amounts - small enough for me to still lose weight. I can eat 5 or 6 chocolate buttons without wanting to binge on them. For me, if there are forbidden foods, I feel like I'm 'on a diet' and that mindset has always failed for me in the past...I have a tendency to rebel! I know my Achilles heel is alcohol, so that is what I avoid, apart from special social occasions. It's a balance that seems to be working for me...if it doesn't in the future, then I'll change it! ps When I do drink alcohol on special occasions, I am extremely naughty and then I unexpectedly lose weight the next day - I bet it's dehydration! 😲😀
  23. I drink beer. I just love all beer. I’m not an alcoholic I just want beer from time to time.
  24. Yesterday was my birthday and my "nutrition" for the day included a protein shake in the morning.....and then alcohol. No food. Because I'm really smart. (not)
  25. I admit that I miss champagne. I didn't drink it all that often, but it's a big part of family celebrations. I'm allowed to have an occasional glass, but when I tried a couple of sips over Christmas, it felt weird and just didn't taste like it used to, so I haven't tried it again. I may try it next month when I visit my parents and see if anything has changed. I also miss being able to sip a glass of wine with dinner -- again, I rarely did it, just when out at nice restaurants or visiting my parents (who are great cooks with an extensive wine cellar). I'm allowed to have wine on my program, just no drinking with meals. There was something lovely about a really good wine correctly paired with a delicious dinner. I'm not really that interested in wine on its own so I just don't drink it anymore. I realize these two "I miss" statements make me sound like someone with a drinking problem! The thing is, I am sure I averaged less than one alcoholic drink per month before my sleeve. I never bought alcohol on my own, just had it when I visited my parents a few times each year. But I guess I really do miss it for those few visits! That said, I would not trade my sleeve and my weight loss for all the champagne and great pinot noir in the world! It's a tiny little thing to give up to have a whole new life.
