    1st day liquid diet

I get either Jello, pudding, cream of wheat/oatmeal, yogurt, 1 cup veggies, in addition to my Protein shakes on my pre-op. Surgeons office says I can add unflavored Protein powder to the jello and pudding too.

    Insight needed

At 11 days post op, it's easier to tell that I'm full...just felt it yesterday from a Protein smoothie that I made with frozen fruit, yogurt, Protein powder, and lite juice. I was terrified that I stretched my stomach . My stomach sounds have calmed down a lot! And I'm able to pretty much drink Water regularly without sipping. It's definitely getting easier. Almost too easy...like my sleeve is too big Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Banders #7

We are still here JWMe. This forum is one constant in my life. Let us know how it is going. I care! My band has a mind of its own and has decided it is too tight.... Tried liquids, yogurt, resetting. No go Although I love being in my smallest size pants, it appears an unfill is due and that means more pounds. However it also means not being fearful food won't agree with me.. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY. To each of us. Kids ,dogs ,cats whatever depends on you... It is a special day. Hope you enjoy it. For me. All I want is an unfill weds.
  4. This is my first post. I'm due to have my surgery next Tuesday, but my milk and yogurt diet has made me so constipated, I've been drinking loads of Water so don't understand why I'm so constipated. What are the best laxatives to use at this stage ? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Vets: What Are You Eating Today?

Had a really late night, so just fixed Breakfast for lunch: Chipotle eggs (egg scrambled with a half tablespoon of greek yogurt for body and extra Protein and half tablespoon of chipotle chilies in adobo sauce...yuuuuuum), and two small slices of uncured hickory smoked bacon (also yum).

    Total carbs verses net carbs

I'm in the early days with veggies, so my fiber has come from a daily serving of Beans, usually refried. I am not carb-phobic. What @@rickm said is spot-on. Carbs aren't evil, but highly processed foods are problematic on several levels. First, their glycemic effect (which is mitigated to some extent when eaten with protein), second their nearly complete lack of nutrition, and third their lack of satiety. I have always done better with food I can recognize as food, as it's come out of the ground, so to speak. I do make exceptions for yogurt and cottage cheese, as their nutritional value is huge. I don't worry about the carbs in dairy. My daily carbs hover in the 40-60 range and it hasn't slowed me down.
  7. sometimes you need a quick snack and something that is going to not give you anh problems. these yogurt bites seem like they would be good for that. a grab and go snack. definitely not something you would want on your menu every day but good occasionally Sent from my SM-S820L using the BariatricPal App
  8. @@esskay77 - here's what I typically have: breakfast: Greek yogurt with a few berries on top lunch: 1 C cottage cheese or another thing of Greek yogurt (yesterday I had a few fresh veggies with my cottage cheese) dinner - usually a cup of some kind of stir-fry (meat & veggies, no rice), but last night I had 2.5 oz steak with a small salad I always make a "double" Protein shake (as in two scoops) and sip on it throughout the day. I also drink *a ton* of fluids - mostly Water & Crystal Light I try not to snack, but I keep the following around at home and at work "just in case": small cans of tomato juice, instant miso Soup, Dannon Light & Fit yogurt (only 80 calories), sugar free fudgesicles, sugar free popsicles @@esskay77 - here's what I typically have: breakfast: Greek yogurt with a few berries on top lunch: 1 C cottage cheese or another thing of Greek yogurt (yesterday I had a few fresh veggies with my cottage cheese) dinner - usually a cup of some kind of stir-fry (meat & veggies, no rice), but last night I had 2.5 oz steak with a small salad I always make a "double" Protein Shake (as in two scoops) and sip on it throughout the day. 9. I just realized that my post-surgery cramping and nausea is probably caused by lactose intolerance. Pre-surgery I had a tiny bit of intolerance, but now any dairy except mozzarella, hard cheeses, and yogurt causes terrible cramping. *sigh* I love dairy. I hope it goes away soon.

    I'm I really hungry?

No PPI...its head hunger for sure, which I'm doing pretty good at ignoring today. I made my own smoothie that served as Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I used frozen fruit, light and fit peach Greek yogurt, a splash of light pineapple/mango juice, and 25g of whey Protein powder. I know this isn't 100% perfect, however, it has made it easy for me to get some protein in. Next time I'll use 2 scoops of Protein Powder Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. Sounds likea great idea gonna look into that...freeze dried one cause i can stick in my purse, leave in care etc...but like the frozen side too for home but at that point why not frozen yogurt??????
  12. You can put Greek yogurt in a Baggie, cut then end off the corner of the bag and pipe small dollops onto a cookie sheet. Then put in freezer. Once they are frozen, they make a good, higher protein snack.

    dressed up tuna

hey guys sorry to post this again but I think that thread is very buried Do you guys eat a lot of tuna? I actually really like it and it's a good source of Protein. But sometimes just tuna salad can get boring. I'm always trying different ways to make it more interesting. Here are some things I came up with. Each recipe uses one can of tuna and is usually at least two lunches for me. Also my measurements are my best guess as I don't usually measure things. You can always add more or less of an ingredient. Southwestern tuna 1 tablespoon corn, 1 tablespoon black Beans, 1 tablespoon diced red onion, 1 tablespoon rotel, 1 teaspoon mayo Asian style tuna 1 tablespoon sliced green onion, quarter teaspoon grated ginger, 1 teaspoon soy sauce. I didn't add any mayo to this one but you can add some if you want it to be moister (is moister a word?) Mediteranian tuna 1 tablespoon sliced kalamata olives, 1 teaspoon chopped dill, 1 tablespoon diced cucumber, 1 tablespoon greek yogurt, a small squeeze of lemon juice taco tuna a little bit of shredded lettuce,1 tablespoon of diced canned tomatoes and 1 tablespoon of the juice, 1 tablespoon diced red onion, pinch or two of taco seasoning to taste tomato basil tuna 1 tablespoon diced tomatoes, 1 tablespoon chopped basil, 1 teaspoon mayo lemony tuna 1 tablespoon capers, a good squirt of lemon juice, a pinch of lemon pepper, 1 teaspoon of mayo
  14. Hey thanks for the invite. My surgery is on the 17th and I'm on day 4 of the pre op diet. Mine too is all liquid but I am allowed lowfat greek yogurt that after a day full of Protein shakes is like freaking manna! Mentally I'm doing pretty well with all of this. I had to feed the kids some meatballs last night that my wife made and they smelled awesome but I only touched them to feed to the kids. Tuesday was my first day which was also my wifes birthday so there was dinner with family at an all you can eat chinese buffet and then cake and ice cream at home afterwards. The temptations weren't that overwhelming, so far. I've only been getting in like 500-550 cals a day so far but I'm not really that overwhelmingly hungry. My mindset is psyched about this whole thing and I'm focusing on what I have to do a day at a time instead of thinking too much about how long I'll have to do this. I also focus on the goals of being able to take the kids to Disneyworld next year and all the other activities that I'll be able to do with them. Like being able to fit in an airplane seat, not getting winded playing with them, being able to buy and wear nice clothes. Being able to get in good work outs, maybe getting back to running. Being able to have a better life with my wife than this weight allows. And so much more. I think focusing on this stuff is what is helping to make this pre op diet a little easier to deal with. So God bless all of ya and good luck on your surgery.

    Scared out of my mind

@@haleymarie - You have inspired me! :-) I am going to try to eliminate all of the "goodies" I am allowed to have like skim milk and fat free sugar free yogurt. (NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD CONSIDER THESE THINGS GOODIES!!) We are almost there!

  17. You also may have developed lactose intolerance. I had similar symptoms right after surgery when I ate or drank anything with dairy in it. It was cured really quickly by switching to a lactose free milk. I like Fairlife. I am not 5.5 months out from surgery and I can tolerate dairy again, but only in small amounts. I still drink my fairlife milk with my Protein powder, but I can now tolerate regular yogurt, cheese, and pudding made with regular milk. I hope you figure it out. pam

What snacks or food to eat on the go

If you can have a cooler with you, I like those yogurt smoothies. they have ones for kids that are in a little bottle so I can actually finish one Other than that, you may have to wait a few more weeks, but beef/turkey jerky is good. It's also a source of Protein. as for soda cravings, I find that crystal light or other powders help with the craving for sweets. Carbonated drinks still don't sit well with me so I try to avoid soda.

What snacks or food to eat on the go

I too have to have two snacks during the day or I stall out because I eat so little at meal times. I have things like the light baby bell cheese, or Greek yogurt. A lot of people do the turkey sticks or jerky. If your driving all day i would recommend getting a small cooler bag to keep with you each day and pack it the night before. Also the tin packs of tuna and salmon are good as well. The vitamin water zeros are very good and help when you want something more then the plain water.

One week post op and I feel really good. Barely any incisional pain left. I feel like I can bigger drinks of water, well more than a sip. I've just been eating soup, yogurt and protein drinks or shakes. My daughters birthday is the weekend and we are having a party tomorrow. I had to go into Subway (smelled like heaven) and GiGi's cupcake to order food and cupcakes for her party. She has to have surgery to remove her Thyroid on Thursday so it will be really hard to to stress eat with a 4 oz pouch. I need to take food with me to the hospital because she'll be in a few days. Hope everyone has a good weekend! HW 229.8 (pre-op) CW 211.4
  22. I can't eat hardly anything that I used to. The strangest thing. I had read your tastes can change around 6 months but that it only lasts a while. I just passed my 1 year mark and have lost 92 lbs. regular food all tastes the same. I eat pina colada yogurt, Protein bars, premier Protein drinks and a boat load of candy lol. I have never cared about candy and sweets. and I'm still losing weight! My diabetes is gone and my A1C is in the 5s from 12. It's crazy. Has anyone else experienced not being able to eat regular food?
  23. I found a lot to be chalky as well. I ran across this brand called Core Power and it is amazing more like a smoothie or yogurt. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Hungry

I am 4 weeks and I get hungry every now and then...although everyone says its head hunger...I just stick to the 4 oz of yogurt/baby food/mush per meal until 7-9weeks when I can start solids and apparently after a month or so you should feel "real" hunger. Seattle WA

    I'm I really hungry?

9days post op and I feel hungry sometimes. I heard that it's not hunger that I'm feeling, so I ignore it. I'm not really eating much...mostly yogurt. Had salmon yesterday. But I can't tell when I'm full so I just eat very little. You don't want to eat until you are "full." Your stomach is still healing and can't give you reliable signals about satiety at this point. You want to measure out small portions and eat them -- or less than the small portion if you start to feel uncomfortable while eating. What happens if I actually do get full? Does that mean I've stretched my stomach? Lots of people will feel extremely sick, nauseated, dizzy, or even throw up if they are "full." The old full feeling that you are used to is gone and don't expect it to come back. Instead, stick with your measured small portions. You will start to feel pressure or tightness if you eat too much. You may also find that you get a runny nose, or hiccups, or something weird like that if you eat too much. This is because the food you crammed into your tiny stomach is irritating the vagus nerve, which runs across the top of your stomach. It controls things like sneezing and hiccups. So remember, if you get symptoms like that, you ate too much and need to eat less next time. Over eating one time will not stretch your sleeve. Making a habit of it likely will, although it will not stretch out to the size of your former stomach. I was so tired of only drinking water so I got a small mango/pineapple smoothie from McDonalds today I had less than 1/4. Is that super bad??? Will calories from 1/4 of a smoothie derail your weight loss? No. But making a practice of choosing to eat junk food loaded with carbs and sugar (almost 50 grams of each in a serving, I looked it up!) will definitely derail your weight loss. You didn't get this surgery to make lazy choices of horrible food. Get some premier protein shakes or similar to keep on hand. Diet fruit juice is good. So is G2 or Powerade Zero. Vitamin Water Zero is another choice. Your only options aren't water and sugary fast food smoothies. I know this sounds harsh but I really am saying all of this because I want you to succeed! I know it is hard early on but this is the time to learn to make good choices with respect to food and your eating habits. Good luck!
