    you're probably just in a stall. They typically last 1-3 weeks. I had several on my journey, especially as I got closer to my goal. Frustrating - but as long as you stick to your plan, they eventually break. the above poster is correct - exercise doesn't really help that much with weight loss (it's helpful for weight maintenance, though), but it's great for your general health. I wouldn't give it up, even if it seems it's not doing anything. Because it most likely is. you're where a lot of people are calorie-wise at the six-month mark - although some are a little higher. Depends on your program.
  2. No direct experience, as the surgeons I am associated with primarily do the "traditional" BPD/DS, but the process would be the same. As to whether or not the sleeve is redone as part of the revision depends on the surgeon's preference and what condition the sleeve is in. The surgeon who has adopted our local support group only does the resleeve if it is needed, if there are any problems or defects with it. There were a lot of sloppy sleeves done in the early days of the VSG (say, 8-12 ago) as surgeons worked up the learning curve getting their techniques right ("twenty years of doing bypasses and they think they know how to do a sleeve...." to paraphrase one prominent surgeon.) As with any revision, count on weight loss being slower and less than with a virgin WLS (I like to think of it this way - our stomach was originally 32-64 oz capacity, and after WLS, even with some stretch and adaptation it may hold 6-8 oz,, so don't expect as big of a change the second time around.) If you are doing the revision for additional weight loss or correcting regain, try to seriously get a handle on why the first one had problems and correct those before proceeding. Good luck ...

    Excellent link, thank you for sharing! You may be at the "right" weight for your body. I know that you can still lose weight after one year post surgery, but it may be VERY slow. Also, you want whatever you're doing to be sustainable. I think the goal should be on maintaining weight as well, which requires having a diet you can live with for the long haul. If you are determined to lose weight, you could TRY counting calories for a few weeks, but that might not be something you're willing to commit to. Anyway, congratulations on your success!

    We were told not to do Keto because the extra fat isn't healthy, and can cause more gallbladder issues as you are rapidly losing weight.

    It sounds like you're tracking your food. I'm at 5 months out at I'm eating between 800-1200 calories a day, and still losing weight, but not every day. Maybe try going up to 1200 for a day every few days? Sometimes that can "shock" your system into more weight loss, but not sure if that really works. Also, working out isn't really for weight loss; it's for general health and also to reduce muscle loss. it's also good to help keep weight from coming back. You don't have to do too much, but it's good to do something most days of the week. Finally, the closer you are to a "healthy" weight, the harder weight loss gets. Good luck!
  6. Hey surgery twin :)!! We got this! I’ll be sure to check up on you the day of!! I’ve tried everything as well; keto, low fat, low carb, etc and they would just make me less motivated because I wouldn’t see much weight loss. Due to trying to prevent hereditary issues, I need this push! New beginnings are coming, good luck on surgery!!
  7. Has anyone on here had a revision from Sleeve to SIPS ? I have an appointment next week with a surgeon about it.. Just wondering to they make your stomach smaller again or they just do the rest of the surgery? How long to recover from this surgery? Have you lost any weight since the surgery?

    Just because someone is in the medical field doesn't mean they know anything about bariatric surgery or even nutrition. Most doctors are given very little, if any, training in nutrition. If the schedule was working for you, you should keep it. In fact, most of the nutritionists I've seen in my life (including for weight loss surgery) have suggested I keep a schedule as well as tracking my food. It's hard to say how many calories you need; it depends on your height, weight, age, gender, and how active you are. There are calorie calculators on the web (try this one: https://www.calculator.net/calorie-calculator.html although I have no idea how accurate it is). We are told after surgery to get at least 60 grams of protein; I am for 80. I try to minimize carbs, but I don't have a precise number, as long as my carbs are not coming from added sugar. As far as constipation, it's an ongoing battle for many people. I find that coffee does the trick for me usually, but sometimes I need Miralax, especially after traveling for a few days. Many people like magnesium citrate. Eating and drinking more fluid, as well as more exercise, should also help. At least that's what my surgery center told me.

    Thank you, Yes I am stable in my weight and have been since the surgery BUT I want to lose about 20lbs more I just want to know the caloric intake and how many oz to eat, how many meals a day? etc I am so frustrated that I have no help... I had an eating schedule 10 am breakfast 1 pm lunch 5 pm dinner with 7am yogurt and 8 pm yogurt *but then i was told by a family member in the medical field, they have never seen anyone with this surgery have a "schedule"* So I stopped the schedule and gained 5lbs, so back on it i went Thank you so much for your reply

    April 12th I was sleeved I was 346 i now weight 230. Very happy with my results

    You will probably get better advice here on post-op diet, calories, macros, etc. than in your surgeon's office it sounds like. Go through the threads here and you'll find lots of info. Feel free to ask any questions and we're here to help, support and encourage you. You sound like you've done fine weight-wise. Don't know why you're still having constipation issues. I was lucky and never had those problems.

    Bang Keto Coffee

    I was doing Carnivore/Keto diet October through December last year. Lost some good weight. Used MCT Oil or Butter in my coffee to make it bulletproof or keto coffee. It was just a way to get more fat in my diet, which is useful in keto. The MCT oil sometimes gave me diarrhea.

    The old sleeve and leave routine, ok firstly you seems to be doing OK weight wise would you say that is correct? What is it you want to achieve from your diet? I would engage a new dietician they will be able to guide you. There are a few books that are available too for sleeve patients.
  14. Yeah I do have extra skin but it’s easy to hide under clothes. Maybe someday I will get the extra skin removed. i am still actually losing weight… I haven’t stabilized yet. My goal weight was 195 but I just kept losing. My intake that I can do seems to be more in line with the limited quantities of bypass patients rather than sleeve. But everyone is different, so who knows. i am told it is impossible to lose “too much” and that the weight loss will eventually Peter off and stop. I revised my goal weight down to 165 pounds which would put me at ten pounds more to go. the way my body seems to work is I stall for a long time, then drop a ton of weight quickly (ten pounds) …. Then stall again for a while… then drop more…. i have sensitive skin and the excess skin does cause rashes to occur. I get them under my breasts, in my midline area by my belly button and with the skin overhang in the pelvic region. They say that if you have documented skin conditions like I do then they will take care of the extra skin… but it’s recommended to wait a couple years. I think it also has to be overhanging by a certain amount. (I think I remember my pcp saying it has to hang lower than the pelvis bone)
  15. Yeah, I've been reading a lot of posts about the long waits during COVID. Hopefully since things are starting to get more stable, it won't take as long. Things have moved pretty fast so far for me. I just had a PCP visit on 2/1/22 and she put in the referral; the Metabolic clinic called me the next day! Not even a full year and you're down 155 lbs!! That's wonderful! If you don't mind me asking, do you have a lot of extra skin from the major weight loss? I'm 310 now and will be getting the sleeve. I worry about the extra skin and really don't want to have a bunch of surgeries. Thanks for sharing ❤️
  16. My surgery date is 02/24. I started my preop diet on 2/10, well I fumbled the first 2 days with one meal but followed everything else (protein drinks etc). After that I’ve been on track since. I think I was honestly having a hard time to adjust those first 2 days, I felt so empty not being able to consume food but I actually feel amazing now on this Pre op diet journey. I’m nervous about the actual surgery operation but I’m ready for the change and outcome! I’ve struggled with weight my entire life and like I tell people all the time it’s not as easy for everyone to lose as everyone’s body is different also with genetics coming into play. Good luck everyone we got this!!
  17. Not sure your feelings on therapy, so here's what I do/did when falling of the wagon early on - First, forgive yourself - Each day is a new day and you damn sure can't change the past. Tomorrow morning, get up. weigh, track, measure - Hell, skip the weigh part, it's probably screwing with your head since you're losing weight. Track and measure. Track EVERYTHING. You're going to fail a few more times, make the next day a new day, don't let it last a week or a month. - If it were easy, we wouldn't need the surgery to help us.
  18. I am a few days away and so excited and nervous all at the same time. Thank you all for sharing and keeping us updated. It helps so much for us who are waiting and have questions. My surgery is a revision from sleeve to bypass due to Hiatal Hernia which my surgeon will repair, GERD and never getting to goal with some weight gain. 2017 HW 284 I’m 5’3 LW after sleeve 194 after I juiced for three days to break the 200’s. Then two years ago I gained up to 224 and I turned vegetarian. Got down to 187. Then COVID hit. I have gained and lost the same 30 lbs for the last few years. Now my current weight is 225. My revision is set for Thursday, 2/17. I am hopeful all my efforts will get me to goal this time. I’m scared to end up the same. Wish me luck.

    Food Tastes/When back to normal

    It sounds like you are actually hungry but that food doesn't taste good. I had the same thing. I never lost my hunger and nothing tasted good and I was miserable and regretted the surgery. That lasted almost four months. I feel much better now (5 months out). I've started enjoying eating again, and I've realized that while I can eat basically anything, some things are a LOT easier and more enjoyable to eat. For example, I cook a lot of meals with ground meat, rather than chicken breast/thighs. Also, ground meat reheats more easily. I can make chili, ground turkey stroganoff, taco meat... so much! I don't eat much salad because it isn't very comfortable. I was sad at first, because I used to eat a lot of salads, but I eat a lot of things I do like. I still don't feel like I did before (I have so many dreams about eating a ton of food!) but this has definitely become my new normal and I'm becoming okay with it. It helps that I've lost a lot of weight!
  20. I had sleeve to by-pass surgery two weeks ago today, as well as repairing a hiatal hernia. My doctor told me that, without the by-pass, the hernia would reappear, possibly within 6 months. It’s been wonderful to wake up each day without all of the problems related to the hernia. The weight loss is a happy side benefit!

    Food Tastes/When back to normal

    I pretty much didn't give a flip about food for the first five months. I was never hungry and rarely craved anything. I had to actually remind myself to eat most of the time! BUT...that all usually comes back sometime during the first year, and things get a lot harder after that. Mine all came back at five months out. I wish it never did - it was SO much easier to lose weight when I was never hungry and could give a rat's behind about food! So I know this sounds weird to say, but enjoy it while it lasts! It'll never be easier to lose weight than it is right now. I had regrets maybe the first month. But I'm so glad I had the surgery and I'd do it again in a heartbeat! as far as not feeling normal and not being able to eat normally - that's really only the early months. I felt like myself at maybe two months out. As far as eating normally, once you're a ways out there are no more food restrictions. There may be some foods you'll have difficulty tolerating, but your surgeon isn't going to limit anything as you get further out. I was able to add more and more foods as time went on - and it six months out, they said I could eat whatever my system could tolerate (which for me is pretty much everything except for really fat-laden meals). I eat normally now - the only difference is I probably only eat half the amount I did before surgery. When I go out to eat, I'll usually order either an appetizer, or I'll order an entree, eat 1/3 - 1/2 of it, and take the rest home. To be honest, that's how a lot of my never-been-obese women friends eat all the time. No one would be able to tell anymore than I've had bariatric surgery - they'd just think I was a "light eater", if they even noticed at all.

    What are you treating yourself with?

    Everything I did during/after losing weight was a direct result of having lost 1/4 ton. Clothes, more activities, whatever. I never had the thought of rewarding myself for having reached a milestone other than acknowledging the milestone. Having options is reward aplenty. Good luck, Tek
  23. I agree with trying to see a therapist, but that can be very hard to find if you didn't do your surgery with a big surgery center in the US or where you live. I've heard that places outside the US (especially Mexico, Turkey, etc) don't provide much support after surgery, and I know from experience that finding a therapist trained in weight issues can be very hard. I would try to work on things like figuring out what you are feeling when you decide to order take out. Are you tired, bored, sad, angry, lonely? If any of these things are the problem, eating take out is not the solution. If you wait until you are over tired or way too hungry to eat, you are more likely to make bad choices with what to eat. It's not hard to keep better choices on hand. Try keeping low sugar flavored Greek yogurt, tuna, protein shakes, cheese, fruit, etc on hand. I travel a lot so I eat out, but I try to choose the best possible option (high protein, low carb) and when I'm home, I make something with ground turkey or chicken like chili, taco meat, ground turkey stroganoff, etc and divide it in portions to freeze so I always have something that takes two minutes to heat up. It takes much less time than ordering take out. I don't wait after drinking to eat (my surgery center said we didn't have to) but I definitely don't drink after eating - it's painful to me, plus we were told it would just flush the food down our stomach and we'd be hungry sooner. Try to get yourself to track, even if it's only every other day. You said you've been working since May 2021 on getting this surgery. There's no second chance after this. Even if you have a revision surgery, you may not lose much weight. It's now or never.
  24. I have not treated myself with anything in particular, because I never held back from doing what I wanted before. I actually did a month of buying nothing but food in January, and that was great. I realized I had enough clothes from the last time I had lost weight plus some things I had bought in the last few months, so I didn't buy clothes. Unfortunately, this month I've gone back to buying things, although the only clothes I bought were swimsuits (my old one was way too big and I'm going on two trips where I will need them) and some things from a thrift store. I already travel whenever I want; even when I was at my heaviest and needed a seatbelt extender I still traveled for work and pleasure. I haven't figured out what would be a good "treat". I would like it to be something that doesn't end up in a landfill, something more like services. I like getting massages, but I never seem to plan far enough in advance. I'm actually getting one this week when I go to LA for work, because I have a friend there who is a massage therapist. Actually, I just reached a milestone of 100 lbs lost, so I'd like to figure out some way to celebrate that...

    Having sugar free chocolate daily?

    Why are you worried about a tablespoon of sugar free ice cream? I assure you this will not affect your weight loss. It has almost no calories. If you start eating the whole carton, then you might reconsider. I have a serving (about 2/3 cup, 79 g) of Breyer's sugar free ice cream every few days as a treat. I don't feel like I need it every day, but I certainly want more than 1 tablespoon when I want it. Everyone's weight will drop and plateau; that's just how weight loss is, whether with surgery or without. This has to be a life-long sustainable journey; you have to enjoy your life or you might just go overboard in reaction to being super strict.
