intense depression
Kellyfitz4 replied to crazyplantlady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Crazy plant lady- I am going thru the exact same thing. I am nearly 4 weeks out and I went to work after 2 weeks. Simultaneously I received a HUGE promotion at work that requires me to work long hours, on my feet (I'm in Law Enforcement). After working in my new position for only a week, I cried every day on my way to work, every day on my way home, cried myself to sleep. My husband finally said enough is enough- this past Monday I went to see my family Physician and she told me I went back to work way too early. She gave me some anxiety meds, which make me really tired, and told me to take another 3 weeks off at the least. I then went and saw my bariatric physiologist today and she said the same. She explained that I am recovering from major surgery at the same time learning an entire new life change and to add a huge promo on top of that, put me over the edge. She too suggested to take at least 3 more weeks off to take it day by day, meal by meal ( I didn't eat the entire week I went back to work and got really run down and emotional). She made so much sense now I have to really concentrate on me and apply it.. Please keep me in your thoughts, this is going to be SO HARD FOR ME. -
Dr just called back and said I can get in the pool! I didn't think I could bc im still a week from making 1 month! Dr knows best I guess! thank u!

I think about 95% of people some sort of stall. I never had a true stall (14 days without an ounce lost), but the closer I got to goal, my loss slowed down. I didn't experience a stall for the first 6 months, and then I was a few pounds from goal and hit a 10 day stall, then BAM dropped those pounds plus 2 to drop me below goal. If you follow your post-op dietary guidelines, push Protein and fluids, the weight loss will continue, plus working out, building muscle mass can slow down your loss, but you'll be losing inches. A pound is a pound be it a pound of fat or muscle. Fat is lumpy and takes up space, muscle mass is lean, and takes up less space in our bodies so when we build muscle, it burns the fat, and we trim down even though the scale may not be moving. I recommend taking your measurements at your neck, breasts/chest, upper arms, upper thighs, waist, hips and calves. Your clothes might fit differently even if the scale isn't moving much because you're muscles are growing, and the lumpy, bumpy fat is melting away. Mentally prepare for a stall by realizing that your body can not continue to lose a pound a day for a year. Take your measurements, and document your progress in pictures so you can physically see the changes. If you hit a stall, analyze your intake and make sure you're staying on course food wise. Stalls happen, the rapid weight loss can't last forever, but you can continue to lose at a good rate by sticking to the rules. I dropped 115lbs in 6.5 months so it's possible to lose all your weight, and keep a steady loss going.

Tuesday Is My Day, Now Doubting It :(
olivia1425 replied to olivia1425's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you! I am still having the surgery come hell or high water! I've waited 3 years to do this until my youngest grad high school. I guess I'm just letting anxiety gt the best of me. I don't really have a support here as both my boys left for military the past couple months, so it's just me. I'm alone and scared and have only told a couple of friends. Mainly I don't want to hear them saying you don't need that, just get up and exercise. If it was that easy, we would all be skinny. I think I'm more scared of the after surgery and finances. I've put all my ducks in this and now I"m stressed about money. lol The shakes you guy from the doctor is so expensive, Does anyone know what I can buy at the grocery store that might be cheaper and still get the protein you need? -

I was having the same feelings when I got sleeved it July it was the best thing for me I to was considering the band but chose the sleeve because of less complications and no need to continue follow up care the rest of you life to have adjustments I was also told I would lose more weight with the sleeve I am down almost 90 pounds and only 10-13 pounds from goal it will be 3 months tomorrow since surgery you will also have to weight several weeks before the band will even be inflated to help with weight loss then lots of adjustments there after -
Any ideas for natural or prescription medications that you have taken and have worked to reduce your cholesterol? I have an appointment next week with my doc to discuss meds. My doc is really concerned because even with almost a 50 lbs loss my cholesterol has not moved more than 4 pts. I watch everything I eat for hidden cholesterol and my numbers have been about the same for the last 10 years. Thanks in advance!

2 weeks post op and a stall
dreamingsmall replied to lindabalseca's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Weighing the same from week 1 to week 2 is not a stall. Not losing weight in one week does not mean the sleeve is not working. Paitence is important. Make sure you are drinking enough water too. It is working you lost alot pre surgery so maybe your body is just catching up. -
Two Weeks Tomorrow No Weight Loss Post Op
LosingItForMe2011 replied to dunnfab5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does take a while to lose the water weight and swelling weight you get from the surgery. Then you do hit more plateaus along the way. Just have to stick to your program and know that it works. I know my scale hasn't budged in a few weeks as well. It is frustrating but, I know it will move -
Next week I start my pureed hopefully it'll give me some satisfaction

Time Of The Month? (sorry Guys)
LilMissDiva Irene replied to bellabbr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its completely normal for some of us to go a bit irregular for awhile after wls. Our fat cells are holding a lot of hormones, and as you lose those hormones are released back into your blood stream. This may cause a little strange period for awhile. Mine was about 3 months post and then a few months here and there with some weirdness. I'm back to normal now, and I'm even super regular it seems since I've had the fat removed from my thighs. Very weird and never thought that would happen but it did. If you feel it's too heavy or of concern please see your Dr. Other than that, likely you will straighten out soon enough. -
Hi Crystal! I am happy you are doing so well. I am on relatively solid foods now and have started losing, about a pound a week. So it is not as fast as I would like, but then again 1-2 lbs per week is expected--long term. Eventhough I haven't had a fill yet, my appetite is reduced. Maybe I still have some swelling, I don't know. But I am pleased to be seeing the scale move downward! Denise

ALL I think about is food!
Daveo replied to tfoley1104's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I can tell you that I can take about 3 regular bites out of a burger and be full. It was never really a problem food for me so I am okay with that. -
My first 2 days were rough. I just slept and hurt. I didn't have the gas pains, I was very achy. I drank nothing the first day and very little the 1st post-op day. My surgeon kept me a second day because of the poor fluid intake. I'm drinking more today. Water, gaterade, and protein powder with water. And liquid Norco.... I'm going to assume I can consider that a fluid...he he. Sent from my Moto G (4) using BariatricPal mobile app

6 weeks post op still feel blech
CowgirlJane replied to LaurieC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't feel human till about 12 weeks... seriously. My appetite came back in full force around 8-9 months an I had to learn to control it by eating low carb. This is temporary, you will feel better in time. Take advantage of the distaste for food, use food like "medicine" - this is that time where the surgery helps you the most in letting go of the overuse of food. -
6 weeks out. Any suggestions on helping with bloating?
-
I got a slight unfill yesterday because I was having problems eating where "everything" got stuck so I thought maybe I was too tight. The doctor agreed so he took .3 cc's out. Everything has been going down perfectly since then, but almost immediately after my unfill, I had a lump feeling in my chest. It kind of feels like a pill or bubblegum is stuck but I hadn't eaten anything. This feeling has been there non-stop for about 24 hours. I am positive there is nothing stuck. It's not really painful but it is uncomfortable. I don't know what it is. It is right between the middle of my breasts and my throat. Has anyone else felt this or does anyone know why it is there? Thanks so much.

I just wanted to let everyone know that my wife and I have started on our clear liquid diets for surgery. At this time were not sure who will go on Wednesday. She has come done with a sinus problem and they might put her off not sure. If that is the case then I will go this Wednesday and she would go the next week. I will keep everyone up to date as to how things are going. We are both very excited about are new healthey lifestyle. Thanks again for all the advice and help. Chris Pre Band St. Louis 250/ :clap2:

Hi everyone! It has been a few days since I have posted. I had my surgery March 3rd. Everything went great. I stayed in the hospital 2 nights and almost 3 because my heart rate was elevated. Luckily it went down and I was able to go home. I have been doing great! Pain is minimal now and I couldn't be happier. I had a hernia surgery a few years back and it hurt a lot more and was an outpatient procedure. Anyhow, I am so happy I did this and can't wait till I start seeing results.

What do I need to buy and have in the house on day one post op?
Anna8522 replied to purplebutterflyjen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ask the dietician attached to the surgical team for a meal plan. and stick to the level she suggests. so free fluids first, then the next level. then soft food - I had low calorie jellies ready and pureed fruit (baby puree level). For me she suggested that I get in plain yoghurt as she knew I liked it. and eat protein first. my protein was mainly chicken, fish, eggs, and cottage cheese. But my greatest help was fresh unsweetened pineapple juice, to sip. It helped rid me of all the foamy mucous phlegm that was making life a misery for the first three weeks at home. Fresh pineapple juice really saved the day. My Doctor suggested it and it worked a treat after three hours of sipping it , a little at a time, I finally gained relief from all the vomiting of foamy phlegm. Here is why - fresh pineapples contain digestive a digestive enzyme in them called, "Bromelain". Bromelain helps break down hard to digest proteins in our digestive tract naturally so we do not end up with gas, bloating, nausea, upset stomach, diarrhea, burping or constipation. - enzyme bromelain is known to reduce phlegm and mucus in throat -

Had my first 'oops' today and I'm paying for it!! I am about 3 weeks post op, still on mushies, and ate lunch at 11:00. After work my husband picked me up and we went car shopping. I missed my afternoon snack and we didn't get done at the car dealers until after 7, home until 8:30. I was SO hungry. Overly hungry. My head is POUNDING. I came home and tried to eat slowly some quick protein but it was too late, I was shakey and still can't shake the headache. Any ideas for portable snacks when still on mushies?

3 years post op. Need a buddy or mentor to keep me accountable.
Jamie Beard posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had VSG 10/21/14. HW 232 LW 119 CW 132. 5'3". I am so scared of regain. I am up about 13 lbs from my lowest weight in July of this year. I have never had an issue with food or drink, never threw up post op. There isn't anything I CAN'T eat, I still have restriction, but I can eat all day. I had a premiere protein drink every morning until recently. I haven't had the money to stock up like I want to. I need someone to keep me accountable and push me through this funk I'm in.
