I had undiagnosed sleep apnea since childhood. Even at 48, I can still remember how tired I'd be - all day - in elem. school. My dad thought I was just lazy when I'd sleep 12 - 15 hours on the weekend. For most of my 20's and 30's I'd been hovering around 250 lbs, at 45, I'd packed on an additional 100 lbs. And that extra weight must have been the tipping point for my apnea. It got to the point where I could not function at work because of my apnea and I was spending all my time at home sleeping. Finally, I went and had a sleep study and got a CPAP machine. My sleep improve sooooo much after using the CPAP, it's hard to describe. After a few weeks, I could not sleep without the machine. A 10 months post-op and 100 lbs less, I was able to stop using the CPAP. And have not used it since. http://www.bariatricpal.com/blogs/entry/31195-blow-is-just-an-expression-cpap-and-sterilized-water/

Banded 11/28/11 and lost 12 lbs the first month. Then nothing till early April(3 mos). I've now lost 31 lbs since surgery. But the next 19 didn't happen till I felt restriction. I've had 6 fills. I didn't feel any restriction till my 4th fill late March. But I could still eat much more than a cup of food. Some foods would get stuck and I found I couldn't eat as much. Then fill 5 and 6 really squeezed the tummy. I may be a little too tight right now and I'm trying to re-learn how to eat with this band so tight and if I can't, I'll go back for a very small unfill. No one told me(or I wasn't listening) about bandster hell till I was in it. I went 3 months feeling just as you do. But, now I'm losing weight and you too will be here. You have no other choice but to be patient. Or, you could throw in the towel and give up? You don't sound like a quitter to me? You're just someone who is venting and Nikki I hear ya. I never vented here but I did at my support group and to my poor wife. Waaaaaaa! LOL.. I can laugh about it now but at the time I was angry and disappointed. I think we all have this idea that we are going to be the exception to the rules and drop 10-12 lbs a month and by the 4th of July we'll be back in our college clothes. HA! You can do it girl and you will. tmf

10 weeks post op-FEELING YUCKY ABOUT MYSELF?
ready4nume posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK i know this sounds ridiculous? but here goes... I am 10 weeks post op.. and have yet to have a fill yet... (long story, but hubby has family that works at the only fill place in town and I really don't want people to know I got lapband yet). anyway i've lost approximately 17 lbs.. since Jan 27th.. ( my surgerydate)... and this last week.. i have been really disgusted with myself, I was really excited about 2 weeks ago because i had to buy a couple of pairs of pants that fit and then they were already starting to get loose after about 4-5 days.. but now i am really unhappy with how i look... guess cause this past weekend to a conference and had pictures taken with family and SAW HOW GROSS I AM... and this is after loosing about 35 lbs. since september... I just wonder if ANYONE else is experiencing these same emotions or am i just being moody?? thanks for any input. btw i am going to get a fill tomorrow (my first one) -
I have had my band for 2.5 years now and in the last year I have had problems with reflux. I have had my band adjusted several times and I take stomach Med to treat the reflux. I have also had my band adjusted several times. Now I have been told by my doctor that my ferriten level in my blood is low. I just finished up a 10 day IV infusion. I might have an internal bleed. Could this be caused by my band?

Don't know what to do...
joatsaint replied to EllaJo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only way I was able to lose weight pre-op was to go low carb. I ate less than 20 grams of carbs a day and lost 10 lbs the week before surgery. I was drinking the EAS carb control dutch chocolate shakes twice a day and eating only Protein (grilled pork loin) for supper. The bad side of going low carb is that if you cheat, you body will hang on to every one of those carbs and you will gain weight back. -
i was banded on 01/28/2008. i am on clear liquids for two weeks. not able to eat any food yet,but 3 times this week i broke out in cold sweat and i guess what is called sliming. felt like i was going to throw up, but did not let myself do it. got very scared. what is causing this to happen?

I was banded 10/09 in USA with insurance. No problems good restriction without fills for the first 3 months. The next month my gall bladder had to come out no problems with surgery ok. I then felt no restriction at all.( my theory is that the surgical proceedure(gall bladder caused the shift of my port) I was then set up for first fill under fluroscope but port turned and was told I d have to get a revision before I could have my first fill. That went ok no complications they filled to 4 cc at revision surgery. One day later I can't eat a thing,so I was unfilled to 2 cc. I now feel great restriction just right. So............even in America ports can have issues......Hopefully mine are now over. I am still happy with my band decision

I had a similar experience with TWO bites of BBQ sandwhich. It was my first PB and slime experience and an educational one to be sure. I felt that bite go up and down my esophagus maybe 10 times. I think I have a sort of road rash from it. I'm still very sore. That was Saturday and I have had only mushies or liquids since then and I am still tight and sore. How are you feeling?

So I have told very few people about my surgery. So far I have been very good about the few that I have told as they have been extremely supportive. My best friend of 10 years has been a size 0 since I've known her. She is all about eating veggies, exercising, all that jazz. I was debating about whether or not I was going to tell her. I decided to kind of introduce the topic of weight loss surgery to her and see how she reacted. So I said "Oh, hey. It is the 6-year anniversary for my mom's weight loss surgery. She lost over 150 pounds and has kept it off for 6 years." My friend just kind of nodded like she didn't care. I said "No opinions on weight loss surgery?" She just rolled her eyes and said "No, not really. It's great that she kept it off because most people aren't motivated enough. They let their bodies get that way in the first place, they're just erasing the slate so they can do it again." ...Yeeeeah.... NOT gonna tell her about my surgery. What a bitch! She has an incredibly fast metabolism. We went on a road trip one year and she ate JUNK the entire trip and when we got home she felt the need to text me and tell me she had LOST 2 pounds on the trip. We sat in a car the whole time eating junk food. HOW did she lose weight?! Yet then she sits there on her skinny butt and judges everyone else. Whatever. This may be one friendship I will be cutting out. I don't need that kind of negativity. It just blew my mind that she has seen how I've struggled with my weight over the years yet she is so callous about it. One time she said "Well, maybe you should just get a gym membership. It's really not that hard to get in a workout routine." I just hate skinny people who judge and think that everyone has the same metabolism. Whatever. Screw her. I'm doing this for me and if she isn't going to be supportive, then she just doesn't need to know about it. Just needed to vent and get that out there. Screw her and all those nay-sayers. This is a second chance at having a normal healthy life and I'm jumping at the opportunity.

Long story... Anyone else been here?

I was sleeved on 1/10/2013. I am having an easy go at this. I am not saying to rub it in I was going to tell you what I eat and drink at this stage. I wake up and as I take my kido to school I start drinking the isopure punch protein 40g (like Gatorade) with equal ice to drink about 10oz. I drink that all and wait thirty minutes then I eat a scrambled egg and 3 slices of turkey meat 12g protein. This will sometimes take me an hour to eat. I eat it slow and chew chew. I want to get all the protein in. Thirty minutes later I start working on the rest (10 more oz) of the Isopure protein drink before lunch. Usually lunch is one string cheese and 3 slices of turkey meat 10g protein. If I have finished the protein drink then I start drinking on the vitamin water. I have what ever the family has for dinner. Tonight is three bean turkey chili. 11g protein. I am getting about 600 calories a day and 75 ish proteins a day. I take two Flintstone vitamins and two calcium 600mg a day too (not at the same time) I take b/12 injections about every two weeks. This really helped with energy. During all this I am walking as much as possible. I wear the fitbit tracker and that has helped to keep me moving. I am almost 6weeks and have lost 27 lbs. I hope this helps. I am not sure how I could get in 1000 calories. I do know that more protein and b/12 has helped my energy a lot. I also cannot drink cream shakes that is why I drink the Gatorade type drinks. -
When I first came out of surgery I was in a LOT of pain from the gas. Once I got to my room and was hooked up to my pain pump I was fine, I pressed that thing every 10 minutes. I did have a lot of pain when I tried to sit up and get out of bed but it was minimal for the most part. The gas was the worst.

I see you are down 19 pounds though and that is fantastic. Hope you can chew soon..best of luck Melinda in Florida

Need Help & Support - Fallen Off The Wagon, & Need To Get Back On
Chris T replied to lavonwarrior's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been sleeved for 10 weeks, so I havn't experienced what your going through. I would say go back to the beginning, eat your protein first, keep a food diary, whatever some of the things you were doing to lose the 58 pounds in the first place. That is a big accomplishment!! I'm curious, do you still feel restriction? I'm worried that I could do the same thing, cause I like chocolate and chips, I don't eat a lot of these types of things but a little bit pretty much everyday. -
Average Weight Loss per month
Elode replied to Whitney1968's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no idea but I've lost 110 lbs in 10 months so I guess 11 lbs if you do it that way BUT it's not accurate. It varies from week to week. DO NOT use my numbers as YOUR guide. You will be different. NO comparing!!! -
Been of the pain meds since yesterday at 9am. Water sucks and taste like metal. Got some flavoring and it is helping. Tried power aid zero and leaves a bad after taste. Broth is good but strong. Tried chicken noodle soup and strained the broth out and love it! A real treat! Jello is good, milk is good. Walked 3 blocks today and feel good! Going to keep increasing the length. Is it really true you get a runny nose when you are getting full? Two weeks prep weighted 331, day of surgery weight was 314, day after was 320. Said that the IV fluids cause that and some people gain up to 10 lbs. appointment Friday for 1st post op appointment.

Happy News at Follow-Up Doctor's Appointment

@@*susan* It is sort of like a Water coffin. You lay in there on your back. The temp gets up to about 118-degrees and the moisture (water, steam, etc.) makes your skin softer. They have several "add-in" options, but I like Co Q-10 and lavender. Supposedly the Co Q-10 aids with weight loss, but who knows if that is accurate. (I've been dropping weight the whole time I have been doing it, but that it is thanks to all the hard work I am doing -- but maybe the hydro therapy helps it along!) It is SUPER relaxing and I'll be happy to get back to it! -
honestly, it's kind of foggy now. I am guessing about a week- or 10 days? I had a nerve block in my abdomen so my pain was never really bad, and I did not have a hernia repair or anything else.

19 days post op and the soup and liquid yogurt and protein shakes do not satisfy me! I'm glad I get to have real food on Friday. I'll have to watch my portions for sure. But is this what is called Bandster Hell???

He doesn't want me drinking the optifast shakes from preop due to the sugar content. I use premier protein but I am still about 10-15 grams under goal. -
Thanks. My Target size is 32-34. I was as big as 44-46. hieght is 5'10". My goal weight is 190-210. Right now its at 275 (lowest its been in 10 years). give or take 10lbs i've been hanging around the 300lbs mark. my Dad has 13 brothers and 3 sisters. I could pass for a brother to 7 of the boys just by when---- our hair line went up, our belt size grew , our hands started to hurt in the mornings and our ankles and knees began to give us grief. In a few years i have another 80lbs to look foward to comming around my waist. ALL of my Moms family is huge. the smallest one in her family is around 400lbs. So I have a lot of "genetics" going against me. But one of MY biggest problems is the size of meals i can eat. I'm the guy at the buffet bar that they dont want to see. (I've molested many buffet bars). 20 years ago I was a pro-bodybuilder. I know nutrition and I know how to exersize. And niether one of those two facts could stop my wieght gain. so now when i get start to hit the gym again in stead of a protien shake + Breakfast + a protien bar and then a snack, i'll be pleanty full with my drink. My goal isnt to have the body i did then (be nice) but the past is the past. I want to try to head of the diabeties and other things that run in my family, I Just want half the energy i did and the ability to run down into my field or fly upstairs in my house without getting so short winded my wife thinks i need medical attention, or feel like my chest is going to explode. when and if we have kids to be able to run and play with them and I want the extra years I'll gain by loosing the wieght to spend with my wife. so there it is. No this wasnt a rant against your question alex  . I just figured I'd lay it out there.

I didn’t have a C-Section but I did have my son vaginally naturally with no meds. This is nothing in comparison. I was just sleeve last Monday 4/9. The gas pain is what I would say was the worse maybe 6/10? Nothing crazy. I took pain meds day 1 & 2 and after that didn’t take anything else.

I had my surgery 10/18/13 and haven't had a vowel movement since I went into surgery... Called the doctors office and they told me to take magnesium citrate still hasn't helped... But I just started purred foods today... Any suggestions?

Hallen.....how are you feeling today? I'm doing so much better. Each day gets a little easier. This morning was my first "back to the grind" type morning.....woke up to snow so had to drive all three kids into town, made lunches, dishes, dinner in the crock. It's the little things that make me feel like I can get through this! I'm already down 10 pounds! Not sure how much of that is "water weight" but it sure felt good stepping on the scale! I've moved on from just clear liquids. I'm doing shakes (very smooth and runny) vanilla yogurt same way, soups with no chunks. My tummy seemed to be tolerating everything pretty well. I had a sugar free fudge pop last night, wow! It tasted heavenly! Hope you are doing good. Keep me posted! Take Care.

Hi, I got my approval for revision to the sleeve today from my doctor's office. I am going from RNY to sleeve. I had my bypass 10 yrs ago. The pouch stretched about 80% and of course my weight came back. I have health restrictions due to severe allergies to alot of drugs that are common pills for high blood pressure. When I got my bypass, they took my gall bladder and repaired a huge hiatal hernia at the same time. I did not have discomfort whatsoever. Mine was open incision, but I suppose if you get laproscopic surgery the healing won't be too bad. I remember my drain tube for the gall bladder surgery part took longer to heal. Post op, I felt soooo much better--I had severe anemia 3 mos prior to surgery that the bypass saved me. Keep us posted--you will be in good care--try not to worry! rsr53 I got my approval letter in the mail yesterday for my revision. I will have the band to VSG and gall bladder surgery at the same time. I know several here have also had that surgery and would appreciate any advice you have. I am a little nervous about surgery but know that is normal. When I get really nervous I say to myself," you are going to have surgery no matter what because the gall bladder has to come out. this is just a little more." Seems to work a little. Is there a great deal more pain associated with gall bladder removal? Cathy
