Well my surgery went well, took 3 hours due to severe scar tissue from a gall bladder surgery in 1992. I have to say that gastric sleeve surgery was much less painful than my C-section or my gall bladder surgery. Had me up walking in recovery about an hour after surgery. Then walked 1 more time after I was taken to my room. Walked 2 more times at hospital before I was released to come home. Was given a small hospital pitcher of ice chips last night. Then was given another one this morning. Was given 1oz of plain Greek yogurt for breakfast and 1oz of tomato soup for lunch. So definitely alot different than I thought food the 1st day after surgery would be. So far so good! Sent from my SM-G981V using BariatricPal mobile app

To count or not to count (calories)

I'm a CRA! Was it that obvious from my posts LOL? I am unfortunately not a fan of eggs, sausage, and bacon, and usually the yogurt has sugar in it. I usually can buy protein shakes at the local CVS/walgreens. It's really a lot better now, in terms of hunger. I try to eat a lot of fish - finally in the last few weeks I started being able to eat salad, at least mixed greens, if not romaine/iceberg lettuce. So, that opens up a lot. -

I used to be a CRA, now CTM; I would pack boiled Eggs, chicken and freeze my protein shakes if I didn’t want to check a suitcase. If there was no fridge in the room, I would either request one before getting to the hotel or fill the ice bucket in the room with ice from the ice machine to preserve my food. The breakfast bar would also have sausages, bacon, eggs and yogurt. I also had the address of every Whole Food store or supermarket close to the hotel or site. -

Bariatric Mexican Pizza CRUST 1 package ground chicken 1/3 envelope of taco seasoning 1 egg 1/4 cup fat free shredded cheese Mix everything for the crust together and air fry at 450 degrees for ten minutes. Spray the pan liberally so it doesn’t stick. Toppings: 1/2 cup taco sauce 1/2 cup refried beans 1/2 cup fat free shredded cheese 4 pickled jalapeño slices, minced Once crust is finished cooking, add toppings. Put back in the air fryer at 450 degrees for five minutes. Once out of the air fryer, let sit for five minutes. Slice into 3 ounce portions. Top with a little fat free Greek yogurt and avocado of you would like. My husband LOVED this. I’m still on soft foods and this really satisfied the Taco Bell craving. -
I buy a 32oz container of nonfat Greek yogurt and add sugar free fruit preserves and maybe Splenda if needed. Blend it with a mixer. Nonfat cottage cheese also. Also Genepro Unflavored protein powder added to your fave broth or sugar free drinks.

I am 6 months out and only just got the hang of protein. My journey has been rocky. I use a food diary to help me account for everything. I am in the UK so am no help to you but many people will chip in later with US ones. Is My fitness Pal a US one ? There are many that are free and very good. You just need patience to get used to logging foods and drinks. So for example - A protein drink [ if you can stomach them ] about 25gms Protein yogurt 200mls = 25gms ! boiled egg = 5 or 6gms Full skimmed milk 18 fluid ounces = 18 gms 6 ounce chicken breast , baked without oil = 45gms 1 ounce hard cheese about 5 or 6gms My rules are - always eat protein first, veg second and then Carbs. I rarely get any veg or fruit [ today was 2 grapes, woohoo] I dream of when I can eat Noodles again........ Good luck with your continuing journey -

@leeann I had cream of wheat last night very runny. It was nice. I asked directly just now to my doc/team can I have a nice scrambled egg and they answered back NO. I’m 4 days out from soft/puréed clearance. Insert best Lucy Ricardo WAH! Ok. So no. I will listen to them. I had an oikos yogurt this morning with 20g protein. I’ll have some Gatorade zero with unflavored protein powder later. 4 more days. 4 more days. Can I just hibernate through them? -
I have tried it and use it occasionally. The problem with adding it to things is the temperature. YOu cannot cook well with it because it clumps above 140 degree f. Adding to a drink would be kind of weird, but possible. I have added small amounts to yogurt, but no the full amount because it would dry it up pretty badly.

My husband is from NYC and made chopped cheese for his lunch and made a special one for me: 1/3 cup ground turkey seasoned with salt, zatar seasoning, and hot sauce all cooked until done and chopped into pieces in the pan 2 TBSP non fat greek yogurt 2 teaspoons of sugar free ketchup He knows I love pickles and went the extra mile and grated in a half sour pickle spear for me. It was delicious and filling and just everything I wanted for lunch on the soft meat stage. -

Growing up my favorite summer sandwich was always cucumber and tomato on wonder bread with Mayo salt and pepper. I’d also eat an entire can of cooked spinach with added salt uncooked as a snack. Now that I’m an adult, I eat these or more accurately, half of these. 😂 No leftovers for later as a kid claimed the rest. The spoon was meant for a yogurt that went pack in the fridge. I’ll adjust the calories later. -
Exercise after revision
Victoria Wank replied to follmerpa's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my revision on May 9, and my weight loss was steady, but the last few days I’ve been stuck. It’s hard for me to exercise. Is it common to have this problem? I suspect it could be that my body has grown accustomed to processing food in a certain way after 18 years post-RNY. I hope it’s just a speed bump. I’m trying to ingest mostly protein shakes and nonfat Greek yogurt. -
Hi all! Hope you are all doing well! I will start my week 6 tomorrow. Where I can have a lot more of a variety of foods. I’m nervous, but excited. I do have some questions though. I’m meeting my protein goal of 60g minimum, and most of the time, my water goals as well. But, I’m hungry a lot. Surgery was 4/28 and I loved for the first week and for the first time in my life, I wasn’t hungry. It was so nice to not think about food…lol. But, it didn’t last long. I’m following my doctors program to the tee as much as I am physically able to! I don’t know if I’m not eating enough or what. I am worried about eating too much in a sitting, and I’m wanting to develop good habits, so I set a timer for my meals, chew 25 times, and wait 1 min between bites after I’m finished chewing. I don’t eat and drink at the same time either. But I’m hungry!!!! I focus on protein first as well. But it feels like I’m just hungry all the time. Eating every 2-3 hours. So for example, I get up around 8am and drink a cup of decaf coffee, and then try to sip on water or Gatorade Zero until I’ve finished 16oz. Then, I make sure I’ve not drank for 30 minutes and start on breakfast. I usually have been having a Ratio yogurt (the one that’s lower fat and 25g of protein) and add a Tbsp of fresh blueberries and a Tbsp of gluten free Bob’s Red Mill Muesli to it for some fiber. I feel full after that (most of the time I can eat it all, but not all the time) then I wait the 30 or longer to start drinking again. By 12:30, I’m starving again, so I’ll grab a Fairlife protein shake and sip on that until it’s gone. But I’m still hungry, so I’ll wait another 30 minutes or so and by then it’s almost 2-3pm and then I’ve been having about 1/4-1/2 cup of egg salad with one of those Sargento mini triscuits and cheese things. They’re pretty small, but feel like just enough. I feel full after that too, but feel like it never lasts long enough. And by 5pm, I’m starving again. So dinner since I have one more day of soft foods, is more egg salad and another Sargento cheese and mini triscuit thing, or soup. And then between liquids, or about 8pm, I’ll have another protein yogurt. Am I doing something wrong? Is it because I’m not quite on solid foods? I am trying so hard to do this the right way. Any advice? Thank you so much for reading this far!! Tasha

For those needing protein ideas, I recently tried Oikos Yogurt. It has 140 calories and 20g of protein. Very good source of protein. I have been having that for breakfast along with a little oatmeal. For my protein boost if my food does not measure up for the day, I use Unjury powder. It is 100 calories and comes in a variety of flavors. I prefer the chicken broth flavor and the french onion soup flavor. I just could not do the protein shakes any longer. This is working for me. If I meet my protein goal with other meal items, I skip the protein powder for the day. I try to get 80g of protein.

1 week until my liquid diet starts 😁 I am so excited! Even for that! Anyway what brands are you guys using as far as protein shake? Other stuff? I bought the Equate High Performance protein ready to drink shakes in chocolate, vanilla, latte, and caramel. I also bought the Two Good yogurt in assorted flavors. Sugar free pudding cups, and all the varieties of sugar free jello cups. On my list of need to buys is; broth and flavor packets for water. On a side note, I found about 4 kinds of Jordan's Skinny Syrups at Bealls Outlet store for $3.99 a bottle, just in case yall have that store in your area and are interested. I hear the syrups are good for flavoring shakes and etc. -

Just thought about it, You also may want to save a few for yourself for salad dressing if you plan to eat salads out. I have found that the dressings in restaurants are mostly high calorie so I bring my own with me when I can. One serving or Two tablespoons is one ounce which is about the size of the little paper cups they give you for ketsup some places that have the dispensers out for you to use. I admit I use two ounces but it’s yogurt dressing so it’s still only 100 calories. I just ordered the one ounce cups and didn’t realize how tiny they are until I got them. Goes to show I have been underestimating calories for my salad dressing for a long time. -
I’m sorry it has been rescheduled. I guess that’s another reason to go to Mexico. I am an RN and work for a major hospital group…in home health. If I worked for the hospital, they would cover 100%. Since I do home health….they have no bariatric rider so I have to pay cash. I never thought that I would get this far with it. I realize I’ve been on my high protein low carb diet just 24 hours, but not once did I stop and get a Pepsi or food. I took PB and celery, ate tuna and yogurt throughout the day. The hardest part will be spaghetti and potatoes. I love my pasta but that’s what has me at 254 pounds. We can all do this. Best of luck to you and keep me updated!

Forgot to mention, I cant seem to stomach the premier protein anymore too sweet. I can tolerate Fairlife but prefer the whey protein isolate zero creamy vanilla powder. That is alot better for me as far as getting past the sweetness. I do and have bought the ratio protein yogurt....those things pack a powerful 20-25g of protein. It is thicker tho so as long as you can tolerate that it should be good. I also buy the keto protein of the same brand not as much protein but still a decent amount. Cod, Tilapia and Mahi Mahi fish are good (no strong fishy taste) and dont forget you may hate fish before surgery but after you may like it. I eat mine (after cooking) with fresh mild pico de gallo. I actually eat more fish now than I did in the past and I have put the fish on a small handful of baby spinach.

Just not feeling it
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to lboston's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 1/2 + yrs post gastric bypass and I don't have much interest in food. I don't care about cooking it or eating it most days. I live alone so boring stuff like salads or yogurt or soup work just fine for me. When I go out to restaurants I usually order so I have leftovers for another day. I'm so glad Whole Foods reopened their hot food bars. I go there and shop for a couple days at a time and then I don't have to cook. -
I bought some of this yogurt today. Thanks for the info.
-
I plan on start that tomorrow morning. I tried a shake again this morning and again it made me nauseous. So, I'm going to try the protein powder in my yogurt.
-
If you have any protein powders on hand, consider mixing them into Greek yogurt. Also, Sams Club sells the Protein2o waters, which have 15g protein per bottle (taste is roughly similar to a Vitamin Water Zero).
-
For me it has a very chemical after taste that is off-putting, but it's such a good source of protein in a small quantity that I am still using it, but as a smoothy base with a little Fairlife vanilla protein shake and plain greek yogurt. Since today I start soft foods, I am going to add a little banana. MUCH tastier this way!
