  1. Thanks JCP. You will be riding before you know it. And hopping into the saddle without having to climb on a log or rock is another great NSV!

And Another Guy Has Just Entered The Forum.

Hey welcome. If your shoes are untied, one of the nsv will be that you are able to do it yourself. nsv means non scale victory. When I got the surgery my hubby was so supportive. He also lost 30 lbs.along with me..So will your wife...best of luck.
  3. Welcome to the forum, it is a great way to learn and get support even for the NSV's God Bless Lassie

  5. So, it is Africa hot here in NJ. I had a scheduled 5k race I was not going to miss because of a little warm temperature. I ran the Mountain Top 5k, which by its name I should have realize had hills, not matter the fact the race website said it was a nice flat course. It was 94 degrees at 10:30, when the race started, and the humidity was so high, I think I saw fish swimming through the air. I ran the first mile in 8:26 and was feeling pretty good, but I bonked because of the heat and ended up at 32:16. This was only slightly better than my last 5k time of 32:38, but the diference was I noticed I was finishing with people who looked like runners, rather than the casual or first time runners. I ended up 48th out of 104, which made me happy, then when I got home and checked the web I found out I placed 2nd in my age group for men! This euphoria was short-lived, because I found out there were only 3 men in my age group, but placing is placing baby! :tongue2: I waited until 6:50 p.m. to do my long Sunday bike run, for both heat and rest and did 15 miles in 75 minutes. I got home, downed some water, went to the scale, and yep, down 7 pounds for the day. Of course, this will mostly all come back, but it felt good to see that needle dip. Only a little over a month left until my triathlon, and I can't wait.

    7 Weeks Post Op

Welp, I did better than last week and lost -3.1 lbs this week. I'm definitely starting to see patterns in my body, and how it reacts to things throughout the week. On Wednesday I weighed in at 185.6, today (only 2 days later) I'm weighing in at 187 lbs. I'll take a loss, no problem, but it intrigues me how my body bounces up and down a pound or two during the week. One of my healthier habits I've acquired since surgery, is weighing myself only once first thing in the morning when I wake up, and not doing so again until the next day. I use to be obsessive compulsive about weighing myself multiple times a day, praying I would see some kind of loss, if even a few ounces. By only weighing myself once a day, I feel like I'm seeing much better results and not dwelling on it as much. Things I also know that have been working for me are laxatives. On Monday I tried miralax dissolvable (pre-measured packets- love it) in my coffee and it worked wonders. On Wednesday, I tried a good old laxative pill and it worked wonders as well. So now I know that if my body needs a little push to dump the toxins out of my body I have options. I'm very wary of taking any laxative every day because your body becomes dependent on them, and I do NOT want that to happen. I've been fairly regular up until last week, so trying different things this week brought a lot of relief to my system, and my numbers dropped as well. I will say that my biggest NSV to date happened today. I have about 20 pairs of jeans ranging from size 16 to size 8. About 3 weeks ago I was able to squeeze into my size 12's that have been getting looser and looser. Today being Friday and jean day at work, I decided to reach for my prized (slightly expensive, but fabulously fitting) size 10 jeans just to take an assessment of how they fit and how much farther I have to go. I put them on, and to my shock and amazement- they fit. Perfectly. No muffin top either. I went and looked in almost every mirror of my house just to make sure I wasn't hanging out or fooling myself. Nope- they fit! I felt overwhelmed with emotion this morning, over a pair of jeans. It's been YEARS since I've worn them, and even then I remember the last month or so I was able to wear them, I was wearing spanx and girdles trying not to bulge out thanks to the evil muffin top! After I got in my car, got my son to school, and just started thinking- I went into a Zen like state. I just felt like everything was going to be okay. I don't know what my all-time ultimate goal weight will be, or when my body will stop losing weight, but right now, the feeling of having my beloved size 10's fit me, is enough to praise God and count my blessings. I love my sleeve! The thrill is gone

The thrill is gone and its a fabulous place to be. Life goes on after the honeymoon. The NSV's , The shock from people around you and being driven by weight loss. Looking back I have to laugh. The high from the honeymoon was incredible..I even thought I had the answers to everything bariatric. The transformation is complete. Finding other adventures and things to overcome and conquer. I'm soooo over it!

    My first NSV

A new shoe wardrobe? I think if anything would cause a lady to get the sleeve this would be at least top 5!! Congrats - that is a really good NSV!!! I haven't gone down in size per se. I used to need WW but that was before banding. But, I have noticed I have to tie my laces tighter these days. Getting smaller does work out well!!

    My first NSV

That's awesome. NSV= non scale victory. something that is not related to the number on the scale.
  10. Hello, I was sleeved on 8/8 and I have had two NSV yesterday that I wanted to share: 1. My sister was away during my surgery and when she came to see me she said I look like one of my high school pictures. I am starting to look younger…Yea!!!! 2. Yesterday, I went for a walk with my husband and after the walk we sat in the love chair on the front porch. A few weeks ago, we would not have been able to fit. I don’t have a tracker…so I will share my stats: I started out at 245, I was 225 the day of surgery and I am 209 now. Thanks for reading, Toyia
  11. It's best to avoid pasta, rice, potatoes, bread and sugar, those things will slow or stop weight loss and cause cravings. Focus on lean/fat free Protein sources and non-starchy veggies. When you eat out, just ask that foods be prepared without added fat/oil and eat your protein and non-starchy veggies first. f you have room left, then have a bite or two of pasta/potato or bread. That way, you know you won't overdo on those things. After a while your whole relationship with food will change. At home, get creative, there are some great recipes out there. Instead of telling yourself, "I CAN'T have.........." say, "I DON'T eat......." Just that small change in your thinking, takes it from feeling deprived to feeling empowered. You will find what works for you, in time, be patient. You got this! NSV's are things like being able to do something you couldn't before, etc...

    Losing Inches!

Jimmy, Congratulations!!! You're already seeing results, which is so wonderful!! Don't give in to the urge for something carbonated. Do check with your doctor about an acid reducer and/or a nausea medicine. You'll be amazed at how much better you feel as soon as you start taking them. Are you allowed decaf tea or coffee right now? If so, maybe a cup of one would help with the idea that you need soda. I love that you're already looking for those NSV's! I'm gonna turn every one of the newbies into NSV ho's like me!

Do you set short term goals?

I have several NSV type goals...but as far as the actual weight goes (# wise)...they way I look at it is "ooooh, I can't wait to get into the 230s."....then the "220s" then the "2teens" etc etc (I've been doing this since I was in the "270s" and it works for me. I don't even care how long it takes me to get to the next set of "10s"....as long as I get there. So, there really isn't even a deadline for these "minis". It seems less oppressive and daunting to me that way...I can't look at my end goal or it's disturbing!!! LOL

    Amusement Park NSV

You are so right. The whole 'living normal' thing is what it's about. The numbers are just that...numbers. Great NSV and I'm so very happy for you!!
  17. I've been feeling bummed lately because my weight loss feels slower and I'm having trouble finding food that my sleeve actually agrees with and won't make me sick. However, yesterday I went to an amusement park with my family. I was able to walk around all day in the heat with tons of energy! The old me would had throbbing feet and ankles and needed my asthma inhaler all day. Hell, the only time I needed it yesterday was because my brother dragged me on a rollercoaster with four loops lol. I only needed it because I shut my eyes and held my breath the whole time! That's another thing- I haven't ridden a ride in years because I was afraid the attendants would tell me I'm too big- I fit just fine now! One last thing- we had to park at the far end of the parking lot. Walking the distance wasn't a big deal at all! In fact, I walked ahead of my family and had to keep waiting on them! Anyway, yesterday was just what I needed to boost my spirits and remind me why I'm on this journey! It reminded me that success after WLS isn't just about what's reflected on the scale everyday!

  21. I knew that finally deciding to take action and not be obese anymore was going to change my life. I was prepared for the lifestlye change, the new eating habits, the different wardrobe, and the better health. At 4 months out, I'm down under 200 pounds, somewhere that I haven't been since roughly 9th grade. All of the changes have be fought for, welcome, but expected. What I never expected was that I would start to feel more confident in myself. I didn't realize how little self-confidence I had until after I started to lose weight. For years I've been the stay-at-home-mom shuttling the kids to their various activities, to school, to doctor's appointentments, to friends parties. I've let my hussband be the sole bread-winner, and we've always managed to "get by" but there isn't much left at the end of the month. For the last year, I've thought about starting my own small business. I even began the process in September of 2010, and then something stopped me from following through. At the time, I wasn't sure exactly what was holding me up, but I realize now that I was afraid. I knew that I would have to market myself, talk to strangers, and make presentations in front of people (some I know, most I don't) to really be successful. At the time, I didn't realize that I didn't believe in myself, didn't think I was someone that people would want to buy from, and was really worried that as I was standing in front of people talking, all they would be thinking about is the fat chick in front of them. Well, I started my business last week. I did my first presentation, and it went so much better than I dreamed. Everyone was listening to me, staring at me as I talked, and I didn't feel like I was the "fat one." If I can make an extra $100 a month, then my sleeve will not only help save my lifee, but get my kids the trip to Disneyland that I've wanted to take. This had truly been a life changing operation, in so many ways.

    Young, Hungry, & Declining

#1 - I did it because I needed the extra push. I needed the extra help with controlling myself, and it certainly does what it is supposed to. HOWEVER. I struggle hard mentally, because my brain still talks me into eating the way I used to, and makes me push my boundaries. It honestly makes me feel like such a failure... #2 - YES. I would be lying if I said I didn't want to quit, or have regrets most days. But having the NSV, and seeing the numbers go down on the scale, it helps. Best of luck on your journey, I have faith you will succeed.
