The dreaded stall....
halfpintvsg replied to alisawoo22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 19 lbs in first 10 days post op, but I have not lost more than a pound or two in the last 10 days. I was sleeved 7/8. Def discouraging, but staying positive and hoping it will come off more when my body is ready.. I am more of a 2-3 week stall. -
I'm not sure why this is showing up as part of the Gastric Bypass section, but you indicate you had VSG, so I'm answering. :)The 3 week stall is completely normal after VSG (& I assume after any WLS procedure). One of the vets here, Butterthebean, even has this link about it included as part of his signature: http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html#.Ur8Z6_RDurk Hope this helps!

How do I break the stall? I even mowed my 1 acre lot yesterday and bam nothing still!! This is giving me second thoughts about the whole thing if nothing else!

Sorry no weight loss in a few weeks - you have heard of the dreaded 3 week stall (talking about week 3 not losing anything for a week or two). I have more questions for you than answers. You acknowledge a couple of items - first that you are eating ahead of schedule and next that you are just now starting to walk. Stick to the diet since initally you do not have full signals. Measure everything and stick to food on diet plan provided from your surgeons office. Give your stomach time to heal. Questions: How many calories are you eating a day? How many grams of Protein? How many grams of carbs? How much liquids are you getting in? Are you eating and drinking at the same time? What does your surgeons office say? Are you taking your suppliments? If you were further along - my advice to those who stall is to shake routine - both eating and excercise rountine up a litte. Sounds like you need to get into ketosis. This is your "sweet spot" goal for first several months. If you are really concerned, talk to your surgeon at your one month check up and have them check blood. Good luck!

Gastric bypass 2/15/23. Weight Loss question.
summerseeker replied to Jonathan Carlson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different in the way they loose weight. Men on the whole, tend to loose quicker than women. You are doing really great with the weight loss and getting your protein and liquids in to you so well. The weight loss will slow down as you begin to eat more normal foods but then your restriction will kick in to keep you honest. After a while the hunger comes back and that's when all we have learned will be needed to keep us on track. Enjoy this honeymoon period you are in, be ready for the 3 week stall. -
I was sleeve march 27. I lost 18 lbs yay! Starting at week 3 through week 4 I have completely stalled, 0 weight loss in over a week. What is going on?! This is discouraging. I'm so scared this isn't going to work!

70 LBS DOWN TODAY!!!! Boooooooooom! Victory is SWEET! I have some setbacks: -Ate some CRAP sugary food over the last 3 weeks. Stalled my A$$ off! -Stopped killing it at the gym due to a Derby Injury NSV's: I bought several XL things including an adorable dress & they all FIT AWESOMELY! That is regular ladies XL, not 1X.... just to clarify (& gloat) I bought a size 12 REGULAR WIDTH strappy ridiculous heels that SCREAM Vegas (will be there in one month!) I was up to a 13W before surgery. I am currently wearing a tank top from the JUNIORS section. it has a multi-color zebra pattern & I think I'm going to wear it to the gym later! I can sit in the school chairs that have arms on them now. I can walk up to the third floor apartment of a friend of mine & I can still breathe!! My collarbones exist... and they are LOVELY! So, pretty damn good if you ask me. I have many more victories than setbacks & I start regular practices with the Charlotte Rollergirls Derby team IN ONE WEEK EXACTLY! L-O-V-I-N-G my new life~ ALSO.... CHECK OUT MY VIDEO BLOG ON YOUTUBE. More about my derby adventures there. Link is in my signature. I would love your feedback!!!!

8 Weeks Out - Slow Scale Movement!
BABEwiththePOWER posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know we're not supposed to compare our weightloss to one another's, but I can't help but feel like a 35lb loss since my surgery on April 19th, isn't really stellar. I had hoped, based on what I'd seen others go through, to be down by about 50 by now. I know I'm losing inches, but silly me, I forgot to measure myself on the day of surgery... but I was a 20/22 the day of surgery, and I just bought a 14 dress on Friday that fits great. That's a big deal, I know, but for some reason, I can't Celebrate without that reaffirmation from the scale. I did hit a 3 week stall around week 4, and then it picked up again, slowly, but at least started losing again. I need to get to the gym more, but with 2 kiddos under 4 at home, it doesn't come too easily. I can probably also do better with the calorie counting. The last week or two I stopped tracking my calories, but I also really don't eat much. I make sure to take all my Vitamins, get my Water and Protein in, but after that, I just take a couple bites at each meal. Maybe I should start tracking again, but I read a post a while back that has really stuck in my brain - it talked about how the poster lost weight with VSG, but slowly- because they ate whatever they wanted, just less of it. This was to avoid the "diet mentality" and the aftermath of what happens when the dieting/deprivation phase ends. I really think all of my past failures with diets were for that reason exactly. I would be all crazy for a week or two, then quit because it was too drastic, and not just a simple lifestyle choice. I know we should take advantage of the first six months post op because we have the opportunity to lose the most weight then, and I don't want to fail, but I'm at a loss for how to feel right now. Sorry, long post, just needed to vent I guess. -
Month Check-Up Today!
Ms skinniness replied to xavtay2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, that is the dreaded 3 week stall. You will probably have a few more, but you will survive. You are a surviver! Keep it up! -
Nope, you're not doing anything wrong. It's the 3 week stall that 99% of people go though. Just keep getting all of your fluids and protein in and it will pass. If it's going to drive you crazy, try to stay off the scale.

Three week stall! :(
CyndieRI replied to fmellnick's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had a 3 week stall also - so frustrating!! Then the next week I dropped 10lbs. Just keep doing what you are doing and it will work out!! -
After a 3 week stall, my scale finally moved enough today to put me in the overweight category. It's the first time in a decade (since right after my lap band) that I'm not obese or morbidly obese!
-
The evil 3-week stall. It really sucks, but it happens to a lot of people. I stalled for about 2 weeks at that time, and of course I panicked a little bit. Everyone around here helped me through it, told me to calm down because it happens to lots of people! After 2 weeks, I started losing again, without changing anything. I lost 5 lbs in the first week after the stall. It will work itself out. Try to make sure and get all your protein in, and maybe a little bit extra for a couple days. Push the fluids. Keep up the good work with the exercise! Hopefully you'll barely remember this stall in a few weeks!

((hugs)). Stay the course. Don't get discouraged! You know about the dreaded 3 week stall/slow down, right? Congrats on 17lbs in 1 month and a half (damn, new math). Remind me, do you normally lose 17lbs in a month? Hang in there sweetie. It's gonna go.

One month since my bypass
OmaJ replied to BecomingMeAgain's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
CONGRATULATIONS on your accomplishments thusfar! You can already see a difference & you're doing great, especially when you consider the set back re: hospitalization, etc. I'm 2 months out & have only lost 20 lbs., but am focusing on the benefits so far & weighing weekly instead of daily helps too. I too had really felt down when I hit a 3 week stall that lasted for 3 weeks! Thank God that passed! -
Questions on weight loss
kakatlady612 replied to Midgetpony's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's called a stall, there are stories about that all over Bariatric Pal. Are you following your surgeon's advice on post surgery , getting in your fluids etc? Your body may be regrouping and realigning itself, trying to get all balanced. Remember your body was happy ---happy when you were heavier, it could bebop along, laying down additional fat cells. It may have even been singing "Blumpie Blumpier Blumpie." All the sudden your surgery has said "Halt--- we are now going to live off of and utilize the energy in her fat cells" Body is a little peeved over this term of affairs, says" I don't like this. Can't things be like before? "So it stalls out, but you're going to make it behave and suddenly you start losing again. The 3 week stall one is famous but it can happen other times , weight loss isn't always smooth but if you stay the course IT WILL HAPPEN. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app -
I'm 3 weeks almost 4 out from surgery and have hit a stall. I know it's common but how long will it last? Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Almost 3 weeks post op
joatsaint replied to Matty1973's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on your success. Just a heads-up. When you hit the 3 week stall, don't let it get you down. Just hang in there, the weight will start falling again. -
I agree with the second statement you made...I just went through a 3 week stall after dropping 35lbs my first month and it was tough..tough on my ego, tough on my reaction and tough on my surgeon...(he thought i had lost way to much to fast...he was happy that I stalled) It is true that really nothing can console us except getting the weight moving again.... I just broke mine last week, and let me tell you...it DOES feel great! Huge Congratulations on conquering yours!!! Shelby
