I might be freaking out but....
slvarltx replied to xxjosettexx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That certainly can be discouraging. I lost a 30 lbs. in the first 4 weeks and then hit a 3 week stall. Bottom line, there is no reason for concern unless it is 3 lbs in 6 MONTHS! Focus on your surgery recovery and make sure you are getting your walks in! It will happen. -
May 26th Sleevers - 2 week check-in!
mtraverse replied to Sara51692's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have my one month spot on Friday which I hope will be the day I start on the soft diet. I am only down 16lbs since surgery which is disappointing because 13 of that was in the first 10 days!!! Hopefully when I go on Friday I will be down 20lbs as I see my scale is moving past the dreaded 3 week stall! Can't believe I am already at 4 weeks, went fast! Exercising is moving a long but still a little tired at times. Puréed food is still working for me and I only get about 2-2.5 oz in, including protein and veggies/fruit. -
So I'm starting to believe that the three week stall is real. My surgery date was 6/2 and my starting weight was 398. One week post op I was 370 now I'm 360 and I know it's great but I've been stuck at 360. And suggestions and also good work out suggestions?

3 weeks post-op weight stall
ShrinkingPeach replied to need change's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The 3 week stall is real. IDK if you read many posts here but everyone posts that they get it and it doesn't last forever. Stick to your plan, exercise and the weight loss will start again. Hang in there! -
Ugh. I absolutely need to join you in this. I had my surgery on a Thursday so I was thinking of weighing in every Thursday morning (of course that was after I weighed this morning ). Based on everyone's experience of a 3 week stall, mine is coming any day and I need to break that habit!

VGSmommy, good for you. Sounds like you have hit the "dreaded 3 week stall". I did last week. It sure was discouraging. Keep up the hard work. -
One week out from surgery...
ShrinkingPeach replied to incredibleshrinkingnurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats on the weight lost so far! You will do amazing if you stick to the plan. Protein first of course and get all your fluids in. Beware the 3 week stall, it always happens but inches still come off. If you haven't already do your measurements so you can see it happening when the scale doesn't move. Good luck! -
Not as much restriction as expected!
God4me replied to TXBrittBritt's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello I am a revision as well. Often as having a revision, we compare restriction with the band as I did. Having our type of surgery as I did in the same surgery (revision) having scar tissue plays a part in that. The Sleeve is a sterner master and I was worried when I could eat more after a month. Liquids do go down quicker and each food type has the ability to have different type of restriction. Liquids= no restriction/ Soft food= moderate restriction/ Solid foods depending on what kind= restriction. I am 2 months out and have been a slow loser with the 3 week stall and for my age and pre-menopause, taking BP pills ALL have played a part in my weight lost. Not to forget your "bougie" size, the measuring device used to measure your new stomach size. ALL of these factors play a part. Drink plenty of Water, Protein a must and watch slider foods that will not support your weight lost. The sleeve works you just have to work with it and not compare yourself with others. Remember this is no the band , thank God and we have a new stomach that we have to get use to. I have restriction and I weight out my food and STOP willfully when I feel the full signal, Over eating with the sleeve is out of bounds as it is nothing like the band, as stated this is sterner master and will not allow you to get away with eating around it. Work the Sleeve it is truly a great tool! I remember being angry as I was 2 months out and only 15lb loss. Well since then I have lost 4lbs and it just came off. -
Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
feedyoureye replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your weight may fluxuate throughout your weight loss honeymoon. Keep in mind that there may well be swelling, water weight, and overall body confusion about what just happened. Use your logic.. if your eating 500 cals a day, your not gaining "fat" weight. At three weeks, or there about , there is something called the 3 week stall... many people just stop losing for around 3 weeks, for me it was closer to 5. Just breath, it will pass, stay on track and the rest will take care of itself. This topic is addressing what happens after the honeymoon is over. Statisticly, most weight is re-gained after 3 years out (but can be earlier...) and this post addresses that phase of the "journey". -
Keep WLS a secret from family and friends...
slvarltx replied to Jay05's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is going great. The first week is not a whole lot of fun. Had quite a bit of muscle pain at the large incision site, but that mostly went away after 10 days. The first day home is the worst as you have to drink these little itty bitty cups, think child liquid Tylenol cups, every 15 minutes and keep a log of it. It is tough to get your fluids in at first. By day 7 I could drink as much as I want. The only time I really know I have been sleeved is when I eat/drink food/soup/chili that has solid pieces of food. The restriction is real and I can eat maybe 5 ozs of food. We went on vacation last week and ordered a large pizza for 4 of us. I ate the cheese and sauce off the top of one slice and was full. I used to be able to eat the whole thing myself! The only residual effect of the surgery I still have is that I sleep A LOT more than I used to. I used to sleep 6-7 hours a night and now I am at 8-9 hours per night. My doctor says this should resolve itself in the next month or so. The good news is that I am losing an average of 5 pounds per week. I lost a lot at first, hit the 3 week stall, and then started losing again after 10 days. I bought a belt in March that I could barely get to the first notch and now the last notch is too loose. My waist last Xmas was 48 inches and now is close to 40. Knee pain/back pain? Good bye! High blood pressure? Good bye! Airplane travel? I fit easily into my own seat now. Amusement park? Riding with kids with plenty of room for the bar to come down. My goal weight is what I weighed when I got out of the Army in 1997. As things are going now, I should be at that goal in late September. There is NO way I could have done this without the sleeve procedure. The sleeve can be very frustrating at time, my head hasn't gotten the message that it can't gorge on food anymore. I almost put myself back in the hospital with dehydration due to eating atkins bars with sugar alcohols (I have become SUPER sensitive to sugar alcohols, I had serious dumping syndrome). It takes a serious commitment, but for me it has produced the results as advertised. Best of luck to you! -
I wish I knew.....

Agreed with the 3 week stall...found out about that here and yes everyone has it to some extent. The one thing I missed somehow was that in my paperwork the NUT said she wanted us getting 48 ounces of Fluid in the first week after surgery. My panic moment came when I couldn't even get 8 ounces the first day. I really thought something was wrong. Then she said work your way UP TO 48 ounces. I had researched like crazy also but forgot about the temperature of what you drink. I couldn't drink cold for the first week then it was fine. OMG yeah your underwear is so quick to sag. Your clothes will follow. Goodwill, Old Navy and Walmart will be your best friend until you get to goal weight. Reward yourself with things NOT food for hitting benchmarks. Take your weight loss in bite size pieces and Celebrate not just when you get to goal. Absolutely follow your plan, it works. It keeps you on the straight and narrow. It helps you keep yourself accountable and keeps you from sliding back into old habits. Good luck!!! -
Stall out on weight week 3-4
KDM74 replied to dianeheartkitty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in week 3 right now and my weight loss has slowed to a full stop. Only 2 days so far at the same weight. I knew about the 3 week stall from being on this site but it still stinks. I feel like I can't get in all my protein and water. I am constantly eating or drinking it seems like yet I am still only at about 300 calories a day and 30 oz of water. I can't do more or it becomes uncomfortable. I guess I will just wait it out with everyone else. -
It's completely normal. Happens around 3 weeks to 99% of us. Do a search for the "Dreaded 3 Week Stall" in the search engine for this site. Keep getting your fluids and protein and it will pass Take it a little easy on the excersising. You can't eat enough calories yet to compensate for it.

@@Erato Calliope Thanks for responding! I'm glad to hear you're doing good on your diet and have tested the waters to see what works for you. Personally, I didn't see the difference of pureed and soft food as long as you chew everything up to a pureed consistency. I advanced my diet a little ahead (braces for the stone throwing from some) but suffered no problems doing so. This is just a disclaimer, anyone reading this should not take this as advice to deviate from their prescribed plan for their surgeon or nutritionist! Today was actually my first day seeing the scale move since my "3 week stall" that happened in my 4th week. This is the first stall I hit, but I'm told it won't be the last. Stalls aren't so bad, they help the rest of your body, skin included, try and catch up with what you've lost so quickly. Sorry that you had to go back to work, lol! But it's good you got to take some time off to adjust. To be honest, I have head hunger a lot right now. I see things that trigger those old memories of eating a ton of Cookies or chips and salsa at a mexican restaurant. It was extremely hard not to just grab them and dip those chips in like I used to when I went to eat with family. I know this will pass but it's hard to see that far ahead right now. Anyone battled this before? When did it get better?

Hiya! I had my sleeve on 5/18. I'm supposed to be on my 2nd week of soft foods but I'm really able to eat whatever as long as it's not to crunchy. I actually prefer to have shakes at least for one meal. Today was my first day back at work. So far so good. I hit the "3 week stall" in the middle of my 2nd week. It lasted about 10 days. It was discouraging until I realized it was very common. How are u doing Dysruption?

Any one from Texas?
Erato Calliope replied to Sarah Harrison's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As far as feeling normal again it took me just a bit over a month to feel normal. And I never walked hunched over after my surgery so I'm not sure about that one. I concur. It's been 4 weeks from my surgery today. I just went back to work. It really took 2.4-3 weeks before I felt semi-normal. I was pretty shocked and disappointed initially bc it seems that many people have an easy recovery. I normally bounce back quickly but this was not the case with the sleeve. I never regret doing it, and I was very prepared for what could happen, I just always thought what could happen would not happen to me. Again, I had no major leaks but I did pull an internal stitch (worst pain I've ever had), had hibernation syndrome, and hit the annoying "3 week stall" in the middle of week 2 for a out 10 days. Stay positive. It will get so much better and easier. Just listen to what your body needs because your body will speak to you in a language only you can understand. Hope all is well! -
I had hit the 3 week stall and to break it I drank extra Water - a total of 90 ounces- and ate half a Protein shake 2-3 hours apart for 2 shakes and then a small dinner at home to keep my metabolism going. This seemed to take care of it. I reduced walking to 3 times a week because I was worried i was burning too many calories. She said to aim for 2-3 meals a day with nothing in between, she liked the water and told me not to worry about exercise to do as much as i want. Now a few weeks later my scale is still again- I hate to go against direct advice from her regarding how frequently I eat- and I did hurt my hip and exercise has been sporadic the last 2 weeks and that could be it...but I'd really appreciate hearing from everyone else what they are doing meal wise, exercise wise and water wise? Thank you!

is the three week stall really a thing?
ShrinkingPeach replied to jamieq's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, the 3 week stall is real. The scale doesn't move but the inches keep going. Mine lasted 9 days. some last longer and some shorter. Just hang in there, your body has been through a major change and has to catch up. It seems to happen to everyone. -

byebyedarkpassenger replied to jamieq's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chin up and eye on the prize! I haven't had my surgery yet but yes, I see from the forum that the 3-week stall is quite common. I plan to treat it as a tiny hurdle along a lengthy journey - I'm sure the human body is still going through changes even though they may not be reflected on the scale. People report they're still losing inches but the scale doesn't move. Keep looking far into the future at the new you and try not to worry about what the scale says today. We're not embarking on this journey to be a slave to the scale. We're doing this to get a healthier body. That's the ultimate reward! -
I weigh daily. I had an almost 3 week stall and it was so frustrating. This week I lost 9 pounds though. No clue how it happened, but it did. Be patient and keep up the hard work. Eventually your body will stop struggling against you and it will fall off.

The 56 pounds I have lost include my pre-op diet as well as weight lost after surgery. I have lost 12 pounds since surgery and am in the dreaded 3 week stall at the moment and have been for a week. Everyone is different and I started my ticker when I committed to this surgery and went for my consult. I started a high Protein low carb diet at that point as I knew that was what I would be eating after surgery. It also made the transition easier for me at pre-op. I definitely do not want to mislead anyone into thinking that I lost all of that after surgery but I am glad I lost some before as that is now weight I don't have to lose post-op. Good luck with your own personal journey!

Week 3 a bust? What the heck is going on?

Could be building muscle drinking all that protein and walking! 3 week stall? That kinda makes sense like the Week 2 rebound on biggest loser! -

Are you building muscle from your walking? I have also heard many people talk about the 3 week stall. Just stay focused and the weight will continue to fall off. -
Anyone break the 3 week stall yet? I'm getting annoyed!
