So, I'm 10 months out and still having problems eating solid foods (doc knows, nothing they can do). Since this appears to be my life, I need to get out of the rut of only eating yogurt for breakfast and dinner. Lentils seem like they go down fine. We have a meal delivery service here that is run by immigrants/refugees and I have been able to get all sorts of delicious Middle Eastern, Indian, and African (lots of stuff from Eritrea and Ethiopia)-style lentils from that. But those have a lot of salt and oil, so I'd love to be able to replicate them by cooking at home. Does anyone know of a good lentil cookbook that has a lot of different styles of cooking? Thanks!

I 💜 lentils... But a Lentil only cool book... Hmmmm thats super specific so try Google Also can you branch out to other legumes as well (so you dont get stuck in a rut)? All legumes/beans can be cooked very very tender and mashed blended into stew/soup? You can even add unflavored protein powder, yogurt, cheese or cottage cheese as a topping. Good Luck and share if you find something 💜

Okay guys. I need HELP!! I am nearly 2 weeks post op (Tuesday) and I am having the WORST time getting Protein in. I'm supposed to be aiming for 48 grams and I'm lucky to get 10. Any of my protein shakes, unflavored proteins, warm soups just make me nauseous- INSTANTLY. I have found frozen yogurt Proyo that has protein and is cold, but I can't live on that [emoji30]. I'm exhausted, weak and CRAVING chicken salad-the goupy stuff. I'm ready for the next level, but I'm not cleared yet. What are some things yall are doing to meet your Protein goals? Day 3 post op and can drink liquids so well it scares me
biginjapan replied to CammyC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I spoke too soon (that's karma for you). My last meal of the day was some low fat yogurt with extra protein and OMG - now I know what dumping syndrome is! I felt horrible for about 5 hours, nauseous, gas (stomach abdominal area was very distended), etc - it wasn't until I was finally able to vomit that I felt better and could actually go to sleep. Even then I had to lie on my back since lying on either side brought back those symptoms (but less). I certainly learned my lesson! I think I'll take it easy and just do liquids today. -
How much weight was lost on liquid diet prior to surgery?
Kymba replied to tryingtolose100's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My liquid diet is or 7 days, I am on day three and dont know what I weight because I refuse to put a scale in my house. I know if I do, I will get obsessed. My doctor wants liquids, but said if I have to eat something, make sure its something protein. I have been trying hard to stick to all liquids, yogurt, cream of wheat, water, unsweetened diet ice tea, etc but the headaches and shaking is too much. So day 1 I ate 2 hard boiled eggs in addition to all the liquid, day 2, I ate chicken, less than 3 ounces, today....still liquids so far, but know I will eat something at dinner. -
HELP! Guys I'm pulling my hair out! It is almost "that time of month" and I have gone from not being able to finish 8ozs of yogurt to being starved for the afternoon and craving chips, chocolate, ice cream and milk! I have done so good since my last fill and even last month, went through this a little but not much. But starting around lunch, I can't get my mind off those "bad" things. I still don't eat near what I used to. A bag of chips is now about two handfuls, a 1/2 gallon of ice cream has been reduced to about a cup and chocolate milk, well 8ozs satisfies that in the evenings. Luckily, by dinner, things calm down and I only eat about 1/2-1cup of food. But I wish I could head off the afternoon issues. What all do you guys do when things like this hit? Oh, Bea -- keep us posted on Ike and how it affects you and your family! I'll be keeping you guys in my prayers!

Victor, I am big sushi fan and I eat it all of the time. These days I try to stick with sashimi or a salad with sashimi (like a poke salad) but when I was in the "mushy" phase I didnt eat much sushi. Certainly, you should avoid the fish and rolls until you get a little further along. When I did go back to sushi I think one of the first things I ate was tofu and some roe. Today (im 7 months post-op) I still dont eat the rolls--frankly, just too complicated, too big of a bite, etc. But, I have tried them. Not long ago my girl friend and I went to get sushi and I think I ate 2 rolls and called it a night. I might have been able to have one more bite...but considering that the rolls are a lot to take in, had I had one more roll, I would have been in a lot of pain and gone too far. In the mushy stage I ate a lot of yogurt (dannon lite and fit) and broth-like Soups. I would recommend that you take your time. My first time out to eat where I decided to try a little of this and that was a disaster and I wanted to die...so slow is good. Ps, for any of you wondering about that incident might I recomend that you NOT drink martini's straight up and eat foie gras...it may just end your life! haha good luck!

Argh, I just added my info from yesterday and somehow lost it. Sometimes this UI baffles me! Anyway.... So, yesterday was tough. I was soooore from my Sunday workout, and having cravings like crazy. But, here was my back to basics plan: 1 egg + coffee & milk & equal for Breakfast 1 egg + yogurt for lunch string cheese for snack roast chicken + string Beans & shallots for dinner. I need to get in more Protein and water!! -
It's crazy how every doctor differs. I wasn't allowed shredded meats, fruits or veggies at the puréed stage. I can start having that as of tomorrow. I bought strawberry yogurt, turkey patties, garlic tilapia, deli meat, sweet potato, canned green beans, oatmeal, diced peaches (lite syrup) and some berries. I may try chili too. The binder my nutritionist gave me says I can have up to 1 cup in a sitting, once on soft foods. I also verified that w/ her in person. But considering i had a miserable evening after doing close to 3/4 cup of beans, im gonna take it 1/4 cup at a time. I REALLY do not want to overeat and hurt myself. Lala - With puréed, everything has to be applesauce consistency in a blender. Soft foods are things that are moist, or mashed, and easy to chew down.

Today I had cream of wheat with a little agave. Propel water, protein pudding, cup of half broth and half cream of mushroom soup strained of course, added my genepro flavorless powder, water, 1/2 Greek yogurt 1/2 applesauce. So far I'm at 55 grams of protein. I'm happy.

ACK... my mouth is still on fire. I've had four doses of the prescrip stuff so hopefully it will be better by this afternoon. Back at work today and will probably leave this afternoon when I start to get tired. I can tell the swelling is starting to go down now cause I'm hungry more often. I had 3 ounces of chicken breast this a.m. then a 15 g protein shake around 9 and then a sf jello a few minutes ago. I forgot to bring my chicken to work so I'll do another drink I guess for lunch plus I brought some kefir probiotic yogurt smoothie stuff too. My mouth is so friggin' tender that just about anything I eat or drink hurts... i think I'm ssssin' my words too. Tongue feel swollen. Soreness is SLOWLY but surely diminishing each day. I feel like I've been in a wreck every a.m. when I wake up and try to get out of bed. I haven't had any ibuprophen yet today but may break down and take some here in a few minutes. Surgeon and other fellow bansdters say I should start feeling about normal around Friday. Considering I am one week to the day today from the operation I'm doing GREAT. Driving myself to work and everything.

Ok I was starting to question myself, but it seems like a lot of people progressed to soft foods around the same time, if not quicker than me, lol. Such a variety. I was just thinking the same thing. The conflicting info can be confusing. The best thing is to follow our individual doctors instructions of course. I'm glad it wasn't just me that had an issue w/ beans. I don't think I'll try them again for a while. How do you know you're full? I always used to eat to the point of being stuffed, lol, so this is new to me! But when I feel some pressure in my chest or side I stop. I got an example meal plan from my Dr and I actually can't even eat that much yet. For Breakfast it said 1/2 cup yogurt and 1/4 cup smashed banana.. I couldn't even finish the yogurt before I felt stuffed.

I've been on several diets over the years where I've had to drink whey Protein mixes. Unjury is BY FAR the best I've ever had! It's delicious! I mix it with 8 oz. of skim milk. I ordered some strawberry Sorbet too but haven't tried that yet. One of the nurses said that she mixes the strawberry sorbet into her Greek yogurt and she loves it. But you can mix it with Crystal Light or whatever and get your protein in.

September Sleevers...! Come on in and chat!
newcocoame replied to birdmadgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hubby ate a salad with me and it seemed like I needed 3 more salads. I need to drink more Water and I only drank 1/2 of one Protein Shake. I will ask the doc if I can have yogurt. It feels like a food monster is crawling out of my stomach. Lol! -
Why can't I lose weight after 3 weeks post-op!
JamieLogical replied to malvarez1210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@malvarez1210 If you are only three weeks out, you are likely not on solid foods yet, but maybe pureed and soft foods? Drink your Protein shakes and get your Water. As for other protein options in those stages, here are some good ones: scrambled egg soft cheeses cottage cheese greek yogurt refried Beans tuna salad chicken salad This site has some good recipes for this stage: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html -
Hi Vlynnfogg. I am still on the liquid post-op diet. Just made me some potato soup, thin. It is yummy. I guess liquids don't hang up so I never feel like I am over doing it. Hope I am not. Did you feel that way at this point? I will be glad when I can have food so I can feel the band working. It is still awhile before I start solids. next week is purees, pudding yogurt and even soft scrambled egg. I guess I will be able to tell more then?

Yum, I bet that is good frozen. I had mine with blueberries last night and a sprinkle of granola. I too have been trying to kick the sweets habit at night, so I've been trying to eat yogurt and fruit. Although the key lime pie that my husband bought started calling me last night. I cut a small piece, had one bite and came to my senses! I gave it to my hubby. I was happy with just the taste and honestly that's really all I wanted, I think I cut a piece out of habit more than anything. It's empowering to be able to stop. Anyway, thanks for the tip! Have a great weekend!

Betty, we don't want that plane turning around because someone is foaming at the mouth! LOL How long is the flight? I probably wouldn't eat on there either, unless it was soup or yogurt. Tpagern, I had to do the sleep study too. Who can sleep all wired up with wires hanging and stuff stuck in your hair, cords stretched to a bedside table, EGADS!!!! You just have to wad up, lay on it and try to pretend nothing is going to mess it up and then go to sleep. I was helping strip sheets at 4:40 a.m. Left by 5:00 a.m.! Oh, getting up to go to the bathroom was an experience in itself. lol

November Surgery Buddies!!!
Lifestyle Changer replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My nutritionist has me starting eating things like scrambled eggs, canned chicken or tuna with very little light mayo to moisten it so it won’t get stuck going down while swallowing. I can eat lean ground beef, thin sliced deli roast beef and turkey, shrimp, cottage cheese, yogurt some cooked vegetables. I still need at least one protein drink included in my day. My nutritionist stated I have to introduce these foods slowly to determine if my new stomach can digest these food. She some patients find out that the foods they ate before surgery find out they are unable to eat afterwards. I am so excited to start transitioning to textured foods but nervous at the same time that my new stomach will handle it now. Wishing all my fellow November Surgery Buddies who are transitioning to the next phase of your diet plan. What do you all think of changing our group name from “November Surgery Buddies” to “2021 November Surgery Warriors” I believe this group we are all warriors from our decision making, preparing or already has their gastric bariatric surgery as well as joining BariatricPal for support. I will understand if no one wants to change the groups name. I just wanted to bring it up as a suggestion. Reading these posts and seeing how much all of support each other made me look at how much we have a lot of strength and are uplifting thoughts for each other. It reminds me that we are warriors of battling our challenges together. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
MomaDance replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Surgery 11/4, I’m eating protein rich “meals” (1/4 cup of canned chicken mashed up with hot sauce or low fat salad dressing is a “go to”) 3 times a day, plus Greek yogurt as a snack. Today, I’m allowed to have “soft” foods, so I will have a Turkey meatball mashed up in homemade no sugar tomato sauce with a tablespoon of ricotta cheese for one of my meals and I can’t wait. I am hoping and wishing for the time when I can have fresh veggies- but all I’ve been approved for at this point is veggies steamed and mashed which… isn’t flavorful no matter what I try to do (and I’m a decent cook, but mushy broccoli is mushy broccoli no matter what herbs you add to it) the way it was told to me, I’ll lose more once I add to my diet. Not sure why, but hoping that’s true. I am down 36 pounds since starting the liquid diet 2 weeks prior to my surgery, and that makes me happy. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
dwilbanks replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello WSLers Long time listener, first time caller. I was sleeved on 11/22/21. I had lost over 40lbs since my surgery, but now seem to be gaining a pound a day the last few days. My diet has remained the same, 1-2 Premiere Protein shakes, 5 oz of non/low fat yogurt, and 4 bites of misc protein from dinner. Getting 64 oz or more of water has been brutal. Any ideas on the weight gain? It's really screwing with my head. Walking (exercise) has been limited, since I am currently experiencing my fourth gout attack since my surgery. I've been taking 600mg Allopurinol daily and 0.6mg of Colchicine during flare ups. It's been brutal. I have not had an attack in a while. Regards Dan -
Hope I am not overfilled...
patsal replied to adagray's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a fill on Wednesday that put me at 5cc in my 10cc band. Liquids trickled down for the first three days, then I was able to get some mushies down, I had to take really tiny bites. Today I was able to get soft meat down, a finely chopped salad and mashed potatoes. It still takes me about half an hour to consume a 6 ounce yogurt. I can feel the liqid trickle down in the early morning when I am tightest. I think I may be closer to restiction than I was before, but I do not want to count on being there and find I am not. -
Thj, glad to hear you are okay, and hanging in there. Tpagern, this stage will be over before you know it. Well maybe not that quick, but soon anyway. Anything is better than the pre-op in my opinion. Cream potatoes, yogurts, and eggs never tasted so good! Soft cooked veggies if you are a veggie eater (chewed well). I think the real stuff starts the 5th week? Anything pulverized, or chewed to a puree will go for mushies. Lots of sf drinks in different flavors help pass the day too. High protein helps stave off the hunger. LOTS of protein. You have taken all the first steps to being a more secure person. Look at all you have done for yourself! That takes courage! Go for long walks, and hop on that bike (after dark if that makes you feel better) All this exercise will cut your time nearly in half to reach your goals. I think you are going to be surprised how much easier things are going to get each month. YOU CAN DO IT!! Where is Lo2us?? Are you okay? Lisa, would you mind sharing some of that determination with us? We all need a dose every now and then.

Rosi -- I haven't been banded yet but I've been experimenting with the allowed foods so I'll be ready after surgery. This morning I made a yummy "protein shake" with the following: Blue Bunny strawberry yogurt smoothies (it's sugar free) 1.5 tbsp of vanilla whey protein 1/4 c cottage cheese 8 ice cubes blend all together well till ice is chopped fine -- YUMMY Hope that helps.

Well, I hope I am back for good! My computer is up and running again. What a fiasco with Tech Support! Sugarbear: I had surgery the same day as you. You could have written my lapband story! As Pam said I ended up with hernia repair also. I had the same "gas" pains as you and in the same location. I kept denying they could be gas pains way up there! I talked to Pam and as she explained, they are not what we know as "normal" gas pains. It is much better now. I still don't have much of an appetite and I have to keep better track of what I am eating. I think I am missing the Protein intake by a bit. I am going to do better starting today. Dr. Pam says that protein is very important for me to heal. And...not to skimp on my pain meds. (Thanks Doc!) I have lost about 13 pounds since starting on the liquid before surgery. Sue in Russia, I have some protein stuff from Wal-Mart. It tastes cruddy with just Water. Yesterday I mixed it with skim supreme milk and a little crushed ice. I added about 1/2 tsp of Crystal Lite (strawberry kiwi this time), thru it in the blender, it was excellent. At least it will not go to waste and it has alot of Proteins per serving. I have been eating the Campbell's microwaveable Soups, yogurt, cream of rice, knox Jello bars, sugar free fudsicles. The soups I only eat about 1/2 serving and then refrigerate the rest for another meal. They are very soothing. Best wishes to all you already banded Marchers and for those of you coming up, we are watching for you and sending good wishes your way! Gail
