The beginning of a new life

Today I started my new lifetime eating habits-much more protein, much less carbohydrate, NO more mindless eating. I am 5'6" and weigh a shocking 318.6. My surgery date is in late March, but at the nurse's suggestion am going ahead with the pre-op diet now. It is for a lifetime, so no time like the present. The hardest time will be in the evening and at night, daytime is not a problem. I have a good support system and I will win this fight. I will not weigh every day, but probably every 3rd day or so, to help with motivation. I am not so much worried about not sticking to the diet as I am worried about being a total bitch for the next couple of weeks to everyone I love. Pray for me!

    2nd Fill Coming Up

I am on week 3 and can only eat a little bit before I get a full feeling. I go for a fill on 2/1 but the Dr. said they will see if I need it. I am nervous if I get a fill I won't be able to eat anything. I am hoping I am just swollen still and that is the reason I can't eat much of the mushies.
  4. Hello friends, Well i had my first meeting with the surgeon this passed thursday and everything went well. He made me feel at ease as did the coordinator of the bariatric dept. (she almost made me cry when she told me ill never be in this spot again ---totally normal to get emotional right?). The surgeon answered all the questions i had. I keep thinking that its going to be so long to have this 6months to wait ( i have to weigh in with my PCP for 6 consecutive months) but i think now its going to go really fast. I have so much to do. i want to try to get all my testing and evaluations done before i go back for my 2nd cosultation in 3 months which will be in aug. Come august ill be on my 5th of 6 weigh ins. I have to have blood work, see a pulmonologist, cardiologist, gastroenterologist, nutritionist, psych evaluation etc etc. I think im putting off the gastro til last. im s**t scared of getting an endoscopy. The surgeon wants me to avoid or limit my intake of cake bread rice and Pasta. so right now i practicing eating on smaller dinner plates and trying to strecth my meals out. Hope everyone is doing well!
  5. Are you weighing yor Protein? If not I recommend getting a digital food scale (walmart, target); and measuring out 3 or 4 oz. Eat that first and then low fat/cal veggies until full. If you are not measuring you WILL eat too much protein. It took me 6 months of fills to get restriction (10.6 cc's). I am a slow loser even though I exercise 7 days a week (minumum 60 minutes) and eat very conservatively.

    Sausage and olives?

Okay so when did you guys start eating sausage well turkey sausage patties seems mushy?? I am allowed solid food in a week and a half. Olives are mushy too wasn't sure if you guys starting eating that at the soft stages

    Sausage and olives?

@sarahbethemails I buy a quarter pound of an antipasto mixture from the olive bar at the Whole Foods near my house at least twice a week. I can eat everything in the mixture; green olives, black olives, feta cheese, salami chunks, small pieces of artichoke hearts, diced red peppers, button mushrooms, mozzarella chunks and the "marinade" or "dressing" is always yummy! I have tried to make it at home but it wasn't quite the same. Just remember to chew well and take small bites. I started eating turkey sausage patties 12 days post-op. I usually have one or two a week with my eggs.
  8. My dr instructed me to take whatever pills I hafta take as soon as I was able. I cut back on my pills the first few weeks (also PPI in capsule form, but I just take the whole capsule) but had to resume taking my Gabapentin ( a HUGE horse pill) after 3 weeks cuz my back was KILLING me. Now, I take whatever pills I needs to take (Chewable vit, b12, Calcium, 2 different pain pills, pill for my thyroid, PPI, and birth control. Oh and my nightly sleeping pill). I've had absolutely no problems taking pills. I used to pop about 8-10 of them at once, but I've vut that back to 2. Then 5 minutes later, another 2 And so on
  9. It is amazing to me the freedom I feel not to have to think about what diet I will start on Monday morning!! I feel so free!! Monday morning would come ... I would start a new diet... Would stay on it a week... Maybe less... And of course cheat and hate myself later. A vicious circle!! I was driving yesterday thinking how free I feel not having to think about diets anymore!!! I was sleeved August 27....almost four months... 63 pounds down ... And 43 inches!! #freedom

    Do I have good restriction???

You will never again feel "Thanksgiving full". Our pouches won't let us hold that much. If you are losing 1 1/2 pounds a week, then you're right where you're supposed to be. Are you getting ALL of your waterload in -EVERYDAY? It takes some doing, but that water helps fill you up between meals. It sounds like you are doing very well with your meals, not overeating, and not feeling hungry. You're doing a great job! It doesn't sound like you need a fill at all. Best wishes!
  11. Hi all......I was sleeved about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I thought I was doing OK....I've been following my diet recommendations and getting in as many liquids as I can. The last 3 days or so, I've been feeling sad and weepy. I have heard that many people suffer from depression after the surgery, but this seems so soon to be feeling blue. Has anyone else experienced this? I am lucky where I haven't experienced any complications thank goodness and my recovery has been smooth.
  12. My job put in a stipulation that i had to go through a 6 week nutrition consult before approval. However, once that was done, it took only a week to get an approval.
  13. Hi, my file is on the last person's desk at my doctor's office. I've been told there are files ahead of me; it could be a few weeks before it's actually submitted. Yikes! I've already met my deductible this year, I start grad school Jan 3. I feel like I'm running out of time. If you have UHC, how long before you received a response?
  14. Mine took a little less than 2 weeks to get the approval. Good luck!!
  15. I have been drinking with a straw all along, my doctor doesn't prohibit them. I have also been able to take normal-sized swallows of liquid since about six weeks out. However, if I drink too fast I will have to burp to get the air out to make room for the liquid...

    Today is my day!

My surgery is in 2 1/2 weeks and I'm comfortable with the OR and hospital too since I work there. I'm excited for you! Let us know how it went! Good luck!
  17. I hit my 1year Mark March 21, you will hit lots of stall. keep getting in your protein and your water and it is almost impossible to fail. I have lost 126lbs and still losing.
  18. I'm having a hard time getting my Protein in also. My doctor told me the first 2 weeks post op I am to focus on healing and hydrating. I stopped all pain meds on day 2 because I was so nauseous. I can't stand anything "sugar free", so my liquids are pretty much Water, some gatorade and I added unsweet iced tea yesterday and felt like I was in heaven!!! =) I'm definitely not getting in my 30 grams of protein yet, but I'm trying. Hang in there!!!!

    1 day post op

Happy from my surgery date til now which was 2 weeks I am down 30 lbs !!!
  20. For the past few weeks I have been getting stuck at almost every meal. I have the first bite, and get the stuck feeling. It is very painful with sliming, runny nose, burping, everything. I have to force myself to bring up the food and then I feel good again. I sit down and eat the rest of my meal without any problems and eat a good amount. Because of this I haven't had a hot meal in weeks, by the time I get the first bite up my food is cold but I eat it all, a full plate. I do make sure to chew the first bite totally, and take a small amount, it doesn't matter, it still gets stuck. I have tried walking around the house, patting my chest to try and move the item, and chewing papaya enzyme, but nothing helps. It is only the first bite so I know I am not to tight. Also, I haven't had a fill in about 2 months and this just started about 2 weeks ago. I have 2 1/2 cc in my band, not alot, I only had 3 fills but have been doing well without being too tight until now. I usually eat frosted mini wheats or some other high fiber cereal for bfst. Lunches consist of scrambled eggs, tuna, refried beans with cheese, etc... and dinner is meat and veggies. I always eat the protein first so it is not like I get a veggie stuck. And no matter how soft the food or how well I chew it I still get stuck. I am going to fl in a few weeks to be with a friend who is having cancer surgery and I don't want to be in the bathroom sliming when she needs me. I spoke to the NP at my Dr's office and she said she will remove some of the fluid in my band but not all of it so I don't overeat while away, she said probably 1 cc. anyone have any ideas what might be happening or what I might be able to do to prevent this. It seems like once I bring up the food the band stretches a bit and allows me to eat without problems.
  21. Ok..here I am again for some post op help. :frown1: I am almost 11 weeks out and I have some new issues that are both mentally challenging as well as physically challenging. I have some days where I can't eat very well. I just have NO appetite and I have to force food down..only that is not easy at all. I think it's anxiety related which leads me to my next issue.. I have increased stress in my life right now and have anxiety..I haven't been here much in the past two weeks due to crazy times.. I guess without my friend "food" to always be there with/for me I have no release. I'm not hungry or craving anything .. just still "miss" the comfort of having the food. I miss knowing I had it to look forward to.. if that makes sense. I am exercising 4x a week and I try to have down time and just relax but this has come up a couple of weeks ago and it's not much better. I have times when my tummy feels acidy or "sour" and I'm on prilosec already.. didn't have this problem early on so am wondering what is going on? I try pepto tablets, tums.. etc and that helps a little bit but it seems to be only temporary.... did anyone that has been sleeved a long time have anything like this happen and if so any recommendations. How do we get all our food in if our tummy is icky and will this go away.. current fear is this can't be permanent.. that would be a huge and horrible thing to have to deal with. I'm hoping someone will say.. yep that happened to me... was great.. had some changes.. got them under control and I'm back to being great! Hoping for some hope that this is temporary and that I'm not alone with this especially with anxiety being higher.... Thanks for reading and responses! ~Chandra/shutterbug

    Question about surgery

My son's gfriend just had surgery to reset a broken leg and she had to take out her body piercings. The doctor was doing the typical run down of questions, her mom was standing there with her, and he said, ok all jewelry removed right? She looked at her mom, then my son, then back at the doctor, then she said, wellllllll, all that you can see. Yuk, anyway, they took the others out after she got to the OR. Talk about embarrassin, so I'd say, #1-Not unless you're really hairy #2-Oh yeah #3-Pretty typical Take care
