    Overtraining & Stalls???? Frustrated.....

Oh my....finally......i have found my people!!!!! So... i had surgery in 2016 (sleeve). Went from 356 to 179. At 179 my doc told me to hit the gym (probably 8 months post). I too found the guru that is Jim Stoppani and started following his programs. I started putting on weight and got terrified. I added 30lbs!!! But wait....my waitsline didnt change...WOOHOO!!! So yes, i doo agree that dieticians and nutritionists have no idea what to do with those of us who train for strength but have a physical nutritional restriction. So thats where we have to help each other! Since surgery i have run over 10 obstacle course races (Spartan, Tough Mudder, etc) of lengths from 3 miles to 13 miles. I also participated in my first half marathon. But now....I am a powerlifter!!! My lifts currently are bench-215, Squat-315, DL-405. I eat a ton!!! 3000 cal a day. Its a job in and of itself as i probably eat 7 meals a day as well as supplementation with shakes. Its not easy, but to build the size and strength i need, its neccessary. We should totally start a group for bariatric lifters / bodybuilders.

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

TGIF Funky June Bunch, Day 5 of the liquid diet………… I made it through yet another day of protein shakes and water. But I must be honest, I know I am suppose to have 3 -4 shakes a day but yesterday…… I just couldn’t stomach yet ANOTHER shake. Some soup would be nice but my doctor said only protein shakes and water for the first 6 days of the pre-op diet. Whoever said variety is the spice of life, they were not KIDDING!!! I’ve been frantically getting my house in order. Cleaning up so I won’t have to worry about that and stocking up on some much needed supplies. Riley (a.k.a. The pug) will be placed in the kennel for a few days. I am bummed out about that…….. I keep telling myself it’s just for a few days. The hospital called and my arrival time is 10:30 am June 3rd. Folks IT’S HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Riley and I went for an extra long walk, yesterday. Need to get a couple of extra walks in before June 3rd. Well, I jumped on the scale again this morning and low and behold the scale came in at 217!!!!!!!! I couldn’t believe it but when you are reduced to protein shakes, water and walking 10K steps a day. Then threw in walking atleast 4 – 6 miles, I guess it will pay off in the end. June Bunch!!!!! It can be done………….Keep The Faith!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Is lap band that bad?

I am more excited than nervous. I have never been much o a sweets lover...im more of a salty gal lol My Dr required me to loose about 10% of my weight before surgery. i was 255lbs, she wanted me to be at 230 by surgery. I am now 223lbs. I think i am calm since its been a process to get here. Today is day 3 of my liquid diet...not gonna lie, its a challenge. But i know it will be worth it.

  5. No, both the surgeon and the nurses just said to walk as much as you possibly can. I don't get too far at one time before the pain starts to kick in, so I try to do mini-walks throughout the day. According to my doctor, the "no bumps no lumps" stage is the pureed foods. For me that phase is Day 3 to 20 post-op. Today I plan to puree some tuna with fat-free mayo in my food processor. I am not allowed to have more than 2 oz. of food at one time. My recommended meal plan for the day is below. It's only my first day on the puree, so we will see how it goes. 4 tbsp. c. cream of wheat 10-12 oz. water 1 protein shake 10-12 oz. water 2 tbsp. pureed tuna with fat-free mayo 2 tbsp. unsweetened applesauce 10-12 oz. water 1 protein shake 10-12 oz. water 2 tbsp. pureed chicken 2 tbsp. pureed green beans 10-12 oz. water 2 tbsp. low-fat cottage cheese

    ❤ MAY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Well today is the End of May, I wonder how many can say they are happy where they are at? I had a very self-assured day yesterday, felt happy and proud in my basic soul, only, one small storm- cloud, someone said she didn't care much for me! But up,iknow what, Green Tealael and company? That's on her, not me, so too bad about her problem. with- out any reason for her attitude. Used to buckle-under, apologize so everyone would LIKE me, finally realized it is much more important that I LIKE Me. I rather like this self-assurance, may keep on "wearing" it. Almost made it to Onderland, on May 1st I had no clue I would be teetering on the brink! So Wowsers for ME! Now to March bravely into June 2019, what will it hold? Not sure but I think I can face it bravely, and that's a Good Bottom Line, isn't it?🌸🍀🌺😝

7 Days Post Op - Ate Cottage Cheese

I am 10 days post op and was placed on stage 2 immediately after being discharge on day 1. I had cottage cheese (less than 1 oz) on day 3. I chewed well and took tiny bites, and it settled well. I had to burp a lot after, but no discomfort or pain. I was relieved! I've been eating Jello-O, broth, soups, and cottage cheese most days. MY doctor said I can eat anything my little pouch likes--including spicy food. So I add lime juice and hot sauce to all of my broths and soups and thankfully it settles well too. All of that to say, I'm with Sonya on this too! FOLLOW YOUR DOCTOR'S PLAN. If you're not sure, CALL THEM, EMAIL THEM, BUG THEM...that's what they're here for. Don't be afraid, just follow the plan, communicate and explore to find out what works for YOU.
  8. A few days ago my bonus son (I'm his dad's girlfriend) surprised me with a ticket to his graduation and I was so happy cuz I am seeing more and more that his kids truly love me [emoji28]. So while in trying to lose this weight and to quite smoking so I can gave the surgery I decided I'm not buying any new clothes until after as a reward. Well this morning I wake up to see my boyfriend dusting off his pimp brim (LOL) and dress clothes to wear to the graduation and I ask is that what your wearing? He looks and with a I think I'm the shiznit smirk says yes it's my son's graduation. So I then inform him that I will not be able to make it to the graduation because he is way over dressed for anything I have (I lost everything in a house fire about 3 years ago). That's when he says oh i planned on taking you to Walmart and buying you a dress. Walmart really I wear NOTHING but Torrid so why would I go anywhere else? So we go to Torrid (haven't worn a dress in 10 year because I am so big) and I'm already self conscious he and I look. He picks out a 1 piece that is cute but I have reservations about it so I tell him we need to find a sweater to cover my arms. I also pick out a cute dress that would not need a sweater and when I go to try them on I wanted to try on the dress I picked first because I needed to see me in something I really liked B4 I try on this onesie. He stops me and says try on the 1 I picked out first and mind you the sale lady informed me there is really no sweaters due to the summer season. So ok I try on this pant suit or like I said B4 onesie and it looks hideous. Now I'm really upset because I've gotten this big and I then say I'm done as he rushes out to grab another dress. I walk pass him telling him I'm done. When I first entered the store I seen a cute dress but was called over to the clearance section by him. There is a reason that it's on clearance and in my size duh. No other women wants to wear that onesie if they are as big as me (at lease no women with since). Do I have self confidence no not all the time and to feel like a fat blob of existence is another level. If he would of let me do it myself I may have been able to go to my boys graduation [emoji35]. I will post pics of me B4 and now and you will see why in so unhappy wit my life and my damn eating disorder. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Both my neurologist my cardiologist and my primary all have said I need this! I’ve tried everything! My BMI is 52 from what I read every one else has much lower and they had the surgery! Since I have already been approved twice and had seizures that canceled it and the negative comments! I have told nobody not even my mom or my kids that I’m thinking about this ! For the first time in my life I feel I need to do this for me ! I haven’t worked in 4 years I can’t stand for more than 10 min my arthritis is so bad in my lower back and knee ! My kids think I’m worthless and never want to help me I can’t live with this constant pain and depression because I’m fat 😭 I just thought I wasn’t fat enough but I guess I am ☹️
  10. I am 10 days post op and healing well. I've had an overall positive experience. I am however really freaked out that I just drank about 10oz in 10 minutes. I wasn't paying attention and next thing I knew, it is was gone. I hope that I have restriction! I also hope I didn't harm myself. I have no discomfort whatsoever. Has anyone experienced this?

    How to tell my Child

Hello, My youngest daughter is 11 and my son's 10. I'm a mom of 6 and my kids have an seen me struggle with my weight. I started trying to eat healthier and get more active this past year and a half and was transparent with my kids. I wanted to try to be an encourager to them to do better and choose better for themselves. They asked questions, I answered them to the best of my knowledge. I showed them the charts the doctor and dieticians gave me. Explained to them my surgical choice and why I chose it. Kids are so strong and it's great to hear their side of different scenarios as well. My son told his teacher that I was having surgery and she if course asked what and why and bless his heart, he couldn't remember gastric bypass and who would at his age but what he did remember was that his mommy's new stomach was going to be in the shape of an egg.[emoji173]️ My greatest cheerleaders are my husband and children. That makes me run the extra mile to keep going! I'm 2 weeks post op, currently. Best of luck to you! [emoji119] Sent from my PH-1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    New

Hello, I'm new to this site. I wanted to know if someone else is having the same issue as me or if it's normal. I had the gastric bypass done April 30, 2019 at the time of the surgery I was 287 lbs. I am now 4 weeks out and I am at 269, I've lost only 18 lbs and 1 to 2 inches. Are 18 lbs good? I see post of other patients that have lost a lot more, I know everyone is different I just want to know if others have lost that amount or close to that amount 4 weeks post op.

    Eating Salad

My Bariatric Surgery Book (written/given to me by my surgeon and nutritionist) says that I can eat that one week after my surgery. I had my VSG Surgery on 5/13/19 and have been been eating all of those veggies and fruits since 5/20/19. Everything has gone smoothly for me so far. 👍🏻 that is kind of scary to me, given the ease with which the sleeve can be damaged during healing.
  16. I was sleeved 9/26/17. I hit my goal weight on 6/10/18. So a little under 9 months. I blew way past my goal though and lost an additional 25 pounds. I have been maintaining my weight loss for about 6 months now. I'm a bit skinnier than I planned, but it's kind of fun. I have never been this tiny! I have hit my goal weight many times throughout the years, but keeping the weight off is very satisfying. I am so used to either being on my way up or on my way down. I have never stayed put for this long. I see diet commercials pop up saying things like "do you need to lose weight?" and I'm all "NOPE." Height: 5'9 SW: 268 GW: 170 CW:144.6
  17. My insurance covers 90 days after surgery no co-pay. My first was 2 weeks then I will go two more times then 6 months and one year. I don't remember the time frame thereafter. I will see my PCP in September. My surgery date was 4/29/19.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

Surgery 4/5/19 Height 5’3 Starting weight 267 Surgery weight 246 Current weight 213 Goal weight 150-160 That’s all
  19. My honeymoon period was over at 10 months. Since then I've only been able to lose between 0 and 4 pounds a month. With most months being 2 pounds. It's very hard to see any movement on the scale these days. And in the last 6 months I've only lost 14 pounds total (no inches off waist during this period). This includes a period where I was eating less then 1000 calories a day in order to speed up the weight loss. I've now started a 2nd massive hair loss period which I believe was caused by that. I have hit my original goal but realize I need to lose a bit more as there are large pockets of fat (mainly belly, some arm) still there. I never really lost the hunger, although I'll occasionally have a day where I'm not very hungry. Right now I'm doing a lower fat, higher protein, keto type diet to try to lose belly fat. Also added more cardio, ACV, green tea supplements, and bio-identical hormones to see if they help.

What's Your Fave BP Store Foods?

Well I eat about 90/10 whole foods to packaged foods. I'm pretty good with that mix. I heart the following: Zeroodles (all shapes) and shirataki noodles (the same thing but different brands). Quest Chips and Tortillas Walden Farms Dressings (Asian, Sesame Ginger, Italian) + Basil Garlic Marinara (mixed with other low carb marinara) Epic flavored baked pork rinds
  22. I think for some people, yes, they reach equilibrium. For me, I had a Dexascan when I was about 18 or so months out because I wanted to see what my fat percentage was so I could decide on a final goal weight. It was 22% - which is on the low side for a female, so the tech said I probably couldn't afford to lose much more - maybe five pounds tops. I had no idea - I figured I could stand to lose another 10-15 lbs. My PCP agreed - time to stop. So I started increasing my calories a little at a time until I found my sweet spot - a calorie range where I could maintain my weight (1500-1700 for me - but YMMV)

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Happy Friday Eve Everyone, Day 4 of the Liquid Diet I made it through another day of Protein shakes and water😞 I would love to get a hold of some chicken or beef broth....Wait I wouldn't turn down veggie broth either.............. But I can't have that until Sunday (Clear Diet day)... I've been checking out a few websites like Amazon and here on Bariatric Pal, for food items geared for special folks like us. I will probably make a purchase of some of the soup items, so I can have some variety after the next few weeks. I have noticed that my sandals are a bit loose from last year. I guess with will power and determination, the whole WLS thing will come together. And then I can submit my before and after pictures like everyone else. Anywho............Keep the faith everyone.....We CAN and WILL do this JuneBunch btw, I got on the scale today and I am finally at (drumroll.........) 219😲 Alright, I know it may not in Onederland, but I will take it. Even though the doctor's scales have a 5-10 pound variance, I will take the 219. Ain't seen 219 since 2008. ☺️ Come on June 3rd.

    Pouch re-set

Hi Jess, I had a 16 pound gain my third year. It was work and slow to get it back off. It can be done and you have a lot of support here. Pouch reset works for some of us. For me the calorie range was too restrictive. Liquids never kept me feeling full. I went back to real food stage basics. Logged my food, hydrate and exercise. I had to find the calorie and carb range my body started losing again. Get temptation out of the house Eat dense protein sources and real whole food to keep you feeling more satisfied Realize you will feel crappy detoxing off sugar and extra calories and carbs. It will pass. The mental battle is a big part of getting back on track. Here are a few threads that may help.
