    Re-sleeve

I am getting resleeve due to not loosing enough and gaining 30lb back. I lost 65lbs. My doctor would not do it he automatically said gastic without doing test ect. I had it in Mexico. I research it an found a hospital that does it only 3 hrs from my home. I live in AZ now. Going to Mexicali mx . I went there last week had a barium swallow before they would commit to a sleeve. I had my old xrays from right after surgery. Thank God I did. He said the technique they use left the top part really large from surgery. He told me it was not my fault. He said I needed a better tool to work with. So if your thinking re sleeve it depends on the issue. I go may 13 for surgery. Looking forward to the new me. I understand a lot more this time round.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Finally the stall has broken and scale started moving again. Hoping it continues to trend down and next stall is far far away 😂
  3. Surgery recovery for me was not bad but the gas pain for about the first 3 days was horrible. I also had a hernia (huge one) and major damage to my esophagus from years of GERD which was also repaired. My surgeon said he basically did 3 surgeries at once. I am 6 weeks post-op and no I cannot tell anything was physically changed inside my body. Everything works normal. Other than I obviously just can't eat much. I also eat about 1/2 cup of food at a time and have light cheese or meat and cheese roll ups for snacks. I drink a shake for breakfast to jump start my protein then lunch and dinner and usually 1 snack. (600-700 cals a day) As far as what you can and cannot eat that is drastically different from person to person. Each person handles different foods differently. On top of that, every surgeons team seems to have drastically different post-op diet plans which may or may not limit what you are allowed to eat. I was on and off the fence for years myself, once I decided to go for it I was full force ahead and dedicated like a pro. I have no regrets! Good luck on your journey.❤️

    June 2022 surgery buddies

I did a taste test with samples from different protein powders and flavors this week in preparation for my pre-op diet (starting May 18) where I do 4 shakes a day with one "sensible" meal. Surprisingly delicious was Bariatric Advantage HPMR Banana flavor when it was ice cold. I also liked their chocolate flavor. I shook it up and let it sit for a bit and it thickened to a nice texture. Still need to try the cinnamon. Vanilla wasn't as nice but it was room temp, so I think that was a big factor. They have a "sample kit" of shake flavors that was a good purchase for me because I hate to commit to a whole bag/tub of protein and then realize the flavor is off. Unjury meal replacement shakes also has a sampler of flavors and unfortunately the texture is a little grainy for me. The flavors I tried were also a little sweet. But that may fit the needs of someone else. My WLS clinic sells Optifast products which are the yummiest shakes to me but unfortunately are individually packaged and $3/shake which is much more expensive than everything else. And only available via MD. Hope my taste testing and $$ spent can help someone else! Please share if you guys have tried anything good!

    Gas pain....omg....

I've had three surgeries where they used CO2 gas, they were all robotic, and one more upcoming for my revision soon... I've had gas pains with all except one, my gallbladder removal surgery. I'm not sure what the difference is. The same surgeon that removed my gallbladder also placed my Lap Band, and I had gas pain after the Band. I can only hope that my RNY revision produces no gas pains, and the surgeon who removed my Lap Band last year will be doing the RNY surgery, so according to my statistics for myself, this next surgery for revision should produce no gas pains. 😂 Who am I kidding, lol. I know I'll have those gas pains, lol.

One more try before surgery again

I can eat about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of food at a time (I am 9 weeks post op). No I cannot physically feel like anything has been done to me. Currently, I am trying to avoid processed carbs, foods with high sodium content, and high fat foods unless it good fat like an avocado. I don't eat any bread except a extremely tiny piece (about two bites) of good sourdough bread at a nice Sunday dinner. I focus on getting my protein in first and then eating veggies. Most of the time I cannot eat many if any veggies. Snacks are a yogurt or light string cheese with some almonds or fruit. The recovery was more painful than I had thought it would be but by day 10 or so I was almost normal. I did have a large hiatal hernia that was repaired so that is probably why my recovery took a little longer and was more painful.

    Just Obese!

I am 9 weeks post op today. I am now JUST Obese. No longer morbidly obese. No longer severely obese. JUST Obese. Soon I will be JUST Overweight...I can't wait!
  8. Hello and welcome in. As @Arabesque says we rarely post when we are having no issues, So plenty of times I have posted when I needed help. I have had a really elongated rough ride. If you look at in context, I never post saying that I have had a good week with lots of weight loss. So its never balanced. Its like taking a grain of rice out of a pan full and saying ' oh its all ruined now, I will have to throw it all away'

How long are you missing work?

How long after surgery until all restrictions are lifted? I'm looking at having gastric bypass but I'm a correctional officer and am not allowed to return to work with any kind of restrictions whatsoever ((lifting, etc)). I'll ask my surgeon next week, but I'm genuinely curious on what to expect. Fortunately I have the luxury of taking off whatever time I need as my husband has plenty of sick leave he can donate to me when I exhaust all of my own leave hours, but I don't know what I'll do with myself if I'm facing being at home for a month, lol.
  10. I'm basically and open book, so I have told everyone I know, and everyone has been pretty supportive. I had one person early on say it was the easy way out, and I set them straight. I am a pretty outspoken person though. That person had been nothing but supportive since that one time. I was at a funeral last week where I saw a lot of people I hadn't seen in a long time, and I did get many comments on my appearance. I just said thank you to people who said I looked great. Only one person asked what I had been doing and I told her I had wls, and she is a thin, never been overweight, person, but she was very supportive and curious about what it entailed, and asked many questions about my experience. It was actually nice to educate someone about it. I don't care if people do judge me though. All this being said, you have a right to keep it private if you choose. Not everyone talks too much like me. [emoji51] I would just tell people I had been eating right and exercising if I didn't want to share that I had surgery. It's the truth, after all. You are all my buddies

We got this! I’m so glad my doc recommended surgery. I didn’t know it was covered by insurance. I haven’t seen 220 in over a decade! My goal is to lose 150 pounds. My highest weight was 285 and now I’m 265. I hope you get the surgery date you want. And survive Teacher Appreciation Week. What happened to being appreciated with some nice apples? 😂

    February 2022 Surgery Buddies

Wondering if anyone else feels like they can eat more than others. I can easily eat 3 oz of chicken and 1 c of salad. Wondering if I stretched my pouch out already. My weight has stalled since mid-April and before that stalled from beginning of April to mid-April. I only lost 4 lbs in April.
  13. Yikes that drain thing sounds like the pits. I wonder why some people need them and others don’t. At least they took it out right away though. I had something similar when I got a melanoma cut out. Mine was just the clear tube you mentioned, but it stayed in for a good week at least. It sounds like you are trucking along the road to recovery. You will probably take lots of naps for a while. Just keep walking and sipping and you will be back to yourself before you know it.
  14. You’ll have to play it by ear because we all recover differently. I went to a joint 60th birthday party just short of three weeks post surgery. I took a protein shake - people thought it was water. Only problem was the party was in their small backyard,100+ guests & no room for seating except their garden bench seat. It was used continuously by their daughter’s boyfriend’s sister who’d had a baby 2 months earlier & a revolving group of her family members. (A friend asked if I could sit down & they refused because she’d had a Caesarian. She may have but the others hadn’t. Yes I was peeved … & still am three years later.) I had to leave after 2 or so hours. I couldn’t stand up any longer.
  15. Welcome. i’m very glad I had the surgery. I generally eat what I want & it doesn’t restrict me dining out or socialising with friends. There are foods I choose not to eat (sweet things, highly processed foods, etc.) because I want to maintain my weight loss. I know I will always monitor & watch what I eat & how much. Bad eating habits, poor food choices, cravings, etc. will always be there. The surgery doesn’t remove or stop them. It just gives you time to recognise what they are & why you’re experiencing them & find ways to manage them. There are some foods that sit heavily in my tummy & make me feel full sooner like bread, pasta, rice & potato though some eat them without issue. It’s just who we are as individuals. There can be other odd things you may not tolerate temporarily after surgery or less common long term but there are plenty of alternatives for food allergies & intolerances about these days. Personally, I’ve not vomited as such but have regurgitated a couple of times when I ate something too dry or coarse. It passes quickly & I don’t feel sick or have discomfort like after vomiting. I did have nausea from my vitamins & on odd days for no obvious reason except having a sensitive & fussy tummy after surgery & when losing. Don’t have it all now now. The reality is you will be eating a much more nutritious & balanced diet so your health will improve greatly. A gastric sleeve will (Mayo Clinic) reduce your risk of potentially life-threatening weight-related health problems, including: Heart disease High blood pressure High cholesterol Obstructive sleep apnea Type 2 diabetes Stroke Cancer Infertility Sure I have reflux, but I had it before surgery (managed it well with dietary choices). It’s not worse just different now. Had no comorbidities before surgery but they likely were just waiting to start. A lot of my big weight gain in the last few years was tied to being peri menopausal & then menopausal. I’d struggle lose 2 pounds & gain it straight back hard to fight your hormones & your body. You’ll probably find a lot of negative stories here but that’s because they’re likely looking for advice, support, etc. If things are going well, you tend not to post just reply. Having a support system is important whether family &/or friends. As is having a supportive surgeon, GP, dietician & therapist, if you have one. My surgeon, his associates & my GP are great. Still see my surgeon’s associate every three months for follow ups & blood tests. And my GP reviews everything with me whenever I see her. If anything looks unusual, they monitor & investigate further. That would be my only point to consider with seeking out of state or country surgery - the follow ups.

    May 2022 surgery?

Hi everyone. I had my surgery May 1st. It went well. I was supposed to be on the three week clear fluid diet. In all honesty- I did three days and then gave in at least thee times- but the last 7 days I stuck to it completely. I didn’t drink the protein shakes as I didn’t like them. The surgeon was upset at first but after the surgery he told me everything was as it should be and went really well.
  17. That is awesome! Great way to ease into things ! My hospital said no nail polish anywhere, and no lotions anywhere the night before or day of. I was also finishing up all of my planning for work and the kids with their schedules and activities for the next week! I wish I could have taken it easy that last night. They didn’t have me do any bowel prep, but I started taking Miralax a few days ahead of time. I thought it would help, but I think it backfired. I had incredible abdominal pain after surgery, and I think it was related to all of that in my intestines, yet the anesthesia preventing my intestines from working properly. Ugh. It all got better eventually, though.
  18. You just got to wait it out. After my sleeve I had no gas pain but after my surgeon removed my gall a year later OMG I had a lot. It took a good week to pass. Walk. Warm beverages like herbal tea (peppermint) can help. Try leg lifts & deep slow breathing to pump the gas upwards because surgical gas rises in your body (hence the upper body & shoulder pain). Heat packs can help too. Burping & farting don’t really help because the gas was in your abdominal cavity not inside your tummy or intestines where the farting/burping gas forms. Hope it eases soon.

    Stomach Grumbling & Gurgling

Mine still does almost three years out. Like on & off all day long. When I eat. After I eat. When I drink. It will rumble & moan at night when I rest my iPad on my abdomen. Sometimes it rumbles more after dairy (with or without lactose). I have even had to apologise for the noise. My young nieces & nephews think it’s hilarious too. After surgery it’s likely from the acid in your empty stomach. After it’s just your digestive system working properly. Rarely is related to hunger as most people presume.

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

Congrats! Worst part is done with. Now you just have to focus on healing. Did they give you a binder? That really helped me with pain. Also yeah, the napping is no joke. I'm 3 months post op and still find I need naps some days when pre op I was not a napper. But yeah, the first 2 weeks after surgery. I was falling asleep left and right. How long are you missing work?

I'm taking two weeks. I'm still WFH/remote. Tbh, I get bored easily, so I definitely didn't want to be home with nothing to do especially since it'll be a while before I'm back in the gym and exercising normally.
