my surgeon treating lap band removal and rny revision like separate cases?
Phoebe2012 replied to offthebandwagon's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm going to see my doctor (Robin Blackstone MD) on July 5th to talk about revision. When I first had my gastric bypass in September of 2002 I loss 160 lbs in 9 month. I have regained 100 lbs. I'm feeling good, no problem with my bypass at all. I'm looking to forward to seeing her and all my options. Anyone share this problem, if so please let me know your experience. Insurance for revision from VBG to Gastric Bypass
RJC5197 replied to Chelsea Pedro's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yes I had the same issues, and my Dr. said that was normal with VBG. That and opening became so small that a scope could not be put thru. That is the reason that VBG could not be fixed and RNY was the revision. This was advised to the Ins Co after initial request, and they approved right away. I am sooooooo happy with my RNY and all the issues from VBG gone. I have lost 54 lbs and feel really good. So many days a week before revision I was so tired due to throwing up and eating the wrong foods. My family is very happy as well, that they do not have to change plans due to me being sick all the time. -

Hi Nancy L, My name is Enrique “Henry” Cortez, I am the Office Manager for Bariatric Pal Team MX. You should have a look at these posts. I believe Green1 had this surgery. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/368430-lap-band-with-plication-removal/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/369599-lap-band-shoulder-pain/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/367178-surgery-revision-question/ -
If everything is fine with your band then I'd recommend finding a bariatric center that does fills and can monitor your progress. The lap band really only works when you have the support and monitoring of a surgeon and nutritionist. I've have 5 cc's in my band and the restriction is good for me. I eat 1600-1800 calories a day and I've been losing weight steadily. If you can eat quickly and easily then your band is definitely not tight enough. The difference between a tight band and a loose band is pretty dramatic. Eat Protein first, then veggies, and finally carbs if there's still room (that's my strategy because I can't imagine a life without the option of Pasta or potatoes... but it's more psychological than anything else because by the time I finish my protein I barely have enough room to eat my vegetables too). After you've reached your optimal restriction, that's a good time to decide if the band is working or not. If it's not working because it just isn't right for you then you should be able to have a revision. At least that's how my insurance works. If weight loss is unsuccessful with the band, or if it erodes or I have another complication not due to over-eating or not following my surgeon's rules then I can have a revision if necessary. I hope you find a good doctor and get some fills going soon! You may be surprised to see how well it works once your restriction is in the green zone

I got my lap band in July of 2004 and despite having 5 fills over the next couple of years, I never lost ANY weight with it. I was a self-pay which is why I had the surgery done in Monterrey Mexico with Dr. Rumbaut so there was no support system in the US for his patients at that time. I tried to survive with whatever I could find online to help me out, but nothing worked. Now that I finally have some stable insurance, I've been going to a local weight loss center here in Washington state and I'm considering getting a revision to a sleeve. I've had an endoscopy done and everything looks great- from the inside, my band is fine. The surgeon with my local program suggested I give the band a try again but I'm looking for feedback from any of you who've struggled with your band. Did any of you have the same problem where it never seemed to work? Have any of you been unable to lose any weight? Does this mean I just never got the right fill amount or is there possibly something wrong with the band? I suspect that even though my BMI is around 58, my insurance won't approve having the band removed since there appears to be nothing wrong with it and my hope of having a revision surgery will be lost since I can't afford to pay out of pocket again. Any advice or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

Late revision surgery question
Missiecraig32 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
No better place to ask than to ask those that know. I had the lapband for 8 years. It had to be removed by emergency surgery 4 years ago due to my stomach coming up and over the band. When they removed it the doctor said I had extensive scar tissue from where the band was. I can definitely say that the scar tissue is still there and that it sometimes feels like I even still have the lapband when I don't. I am thinking about possibly getting the sleeve and tried researching only to come up with nothing. I spoke to a nurse who told me a horrifying story about a 30 year old who had revision surgery later on after her last surgery and died on the table. Is it too late to get another surgery seeing how I am 4 years out from my band being removed? What do they do with all the scar tissue around where the band was? Is it too risky to mess with it or should I do it? The reason I am asking here is that the people I have spoken to make it out like the doctors will just do surgery on anybody for the money and I want real opinions from people who have been here or what they were told. -
HELP: terrible pain after band removal
UsernameTaken replied to tohealth's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had my lap band removed and revised to bypass but about 1.5 after surgery I had a lot of pain in port site area, had fever and underneath the incision was this big bump.. Ended up being Abcess that had to be opened up and drained... I still have it open its been 3 weeks and still have fluid coming out of it, I was also on strong antibiotics... Hopefully they figure out what is happening with your pain, I have been told that I will have soreness for a while in the port area after surgery because of the muscles they had to go through and scar tissue to remove. Hope you feel better -

Over 60 and having the sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to ginnylee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 100% for the sleeve. !! Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App Get that band out before it ruins your stomach and you can't get any kind of revision surgery. I had my band out and got the sleeve in the same surgery, 7 years ago. i am 63 now. It was the best decision of my life. The sleeve works so well. I can still only eat small portions. Just like the sleeve though, candy is my biggest threat. The sleeve does not stop sweet cravings and unfortunately, most of them go down just fine. I'm still fighting a 10 lb regain but at 7 years, I am thrilled that's all it is. It's harder to lose weight the older we get. It could easily be 20 or more, if I didn't watch things so closely. -
Over 60 and having the sleeve

I went to Mexico 7 years ago and got sleeved, revision from band. I was in the hospital 3 nights, but I didn't need to be. That's just the way they do things. I was out of my room most of the time, walking around outside. Feel free to ask me anything. -
10 months after conversion
MrsJroChicago replied to Lutasha's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
78 pounds in 10 months is awesome. I had my revision on May 27. I'm down about 15 pounds since. It was a little more complication and a more difficult recovery than I anticipated, but I'm so glad to have that band out. Now, if I could only get the hole from the G-tube to close, I'd be far more comfortable and happy! Keep up the good work. -

Can you actually revise a "failed RNY" (gastric bypass) to a sleeve? I had no idea you could do that. -

I am new to this board but as I am 64 and waiting to complete all paperwork to apply to BCBS FEP for insurance coverage of revision from failed rny to sleeve I hope I am welcome here? I am scared insurance won't cover and even if they would normally they may just wait out the clock until I turn 65 and go on medicare in late October. Anything anyone can tell me about the sleeve would help my scared nerves to hear. Karenytrevision CW 296. Surgeon goal 220. My goal 160 -
No symptoms at all other than its irritating to bend. I'm hoping that's all it is. I was a revision vbg to RNY so doc told me since it was a more complicated surgery he would have to do an open.

I am also new here but have read many posts for a while and this is my first posting. I am asking my insurance company to pay for a revision surgery due to weight regain and complications from a 10 year old gastric bypass. I have regained most of my weight loss after much hard work to lose the weight and I have an unhappy ulcer and a hiatal hernia. I had no care after surgery as my wls center closed down soon after my operation. If I get a second chance I will feel very fortunate and take care of my eating and behavioral issues this time. Karen

Any August sleevers out there?
AmyD102 replied to LyonsHS1977's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had an appointment with my surgeon today and they are submitting to my insurance for an early August surgery date (TBD), I'm hoping for a quick approval but the surgeon thinks they might try to fight it because my BMI is a 39, but because I'm a band to sleeve revision (after a slip and band failure) he's confident it will be approved! Now the waiting game begins! Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App -
Feel like this is failing?
vita428 replied to Juliecrockett's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had bypass 4/29 been stalled for weeks. Glad to know I'm not alone. I keep losing and gaining the same one pound. I'm a revision but I feel like it should be coming off more. He said I'd have a stall weeks three and four but it'd been since then:( Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App
