    Swallow or crush pills?

Yes, please check with your doctor or pharmacist. The type of pill really matters. In terms of general rules, I was told I could swallow anything that was smaller than an M&M. For me that means I only need to cut my metformin pills (they are huge...hopefully I'll be off them soon anyway) and I need to empty the capsule of Prilosec and take with a spoonful of pudding or yogurt. The pharm did need to change my metformin prescription from the extended release version so I could split them.

    Compare Before and After…Your Kitchen!

I'm still pre-surgery but I don't think mine will look much different. I usually buy lots of healthy foods and our refrigerator is stocked with yogurt, meat, fruits, veggies. My cupboards have a lot of Beans, diced tomatoes, tuna). However, my boyfriend is a sweet eater and snack eater (chips) and those items are in my kitchen now - and will be afterwards. Luckily - I can live with those things in our house without wanting them myself. I just need my kitchen organized so I can prepare meals easily and can see what's in my fridge and freezer.

    Low BMI Gastric Sleeve story

Hello and welcome!! I am 9 days post op and I feel like I could run circles around an office. So, I don't believe that fatigue or fuzzy head have been an issue at all for me. Not to say that others haven't experienced this because as it seems, no two are alike. However, very similar. I also have a lower (BMI 32.4) but still obese and a yo-yo forever with no long-term solution and lots of family health issues. I also know that being in shape will improve your healing and general outcome. I'm not too schooled in long term sleevers but I do know that's the reason that it's so important to get your protein first. I've been doing great getting it in as long as I drink a Protein shake and eat lots of yogurt! Anyway, thank you for your post and I hope to get information on long term outcomes as well. Good luck to you and you are in the right place for a wealth of information!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Compare Before and After…Your Kitchen!

I no longer have any bread or Pasta in the house. I buy one potato or sweet potato a week and that is for my husband. I also do not buy chips, Cookies, chocolate, candy, cake mixes etc. I still have chocolate chips in my pantry from over a year ago, since I don't bake cookies anymore, not sure what to do with them. I have a whole shelf in my refrigerator dedicated to Chobani key lime Greek yogurt. I'll buy 20 of them at a time if they are on sale. Lettuce, spinach, fresh vegetables and fruit fill the bins and cheese takes up some space as well. Lots of meat in the freezer. My children are grown so I don't need to think about what they would need and my husband is eating pretty much what I eat. Very different from before WLS!

    Compare Before and After…Your Kitchen!

Mine is actually more full than it was pre-op. I have a small kitchen with very little pantry space and it is overflowing. Pre-op, I always had milk in my refrigerator. I ate a lot of Cereal and other carbs. Now, in addition to Protein shakes and supplements, I have lots of condiments, spices, herbs, specialty/gourmet food (jars of pickles, olives, peppers, salsas, marinades, etc.). Pre-op, I bought pop by the 2 liter bottle. Now, I have enough tea, crystal light, etc. to fill a cabinet. I did eat a lot of tuna pre-op, but now I tend to buy tuna packets by the case. I also buy mr cheese os by the case. My refrigerator is full of yogurt, cottage cheese, other cheeses, eggs, fresh vegetables, fruit (right now I have fresh raspberries!), and opened bottles of condiments and specialty food (see my pantry).
  6. *Scrambled eggs with a bit of cottage cheese mixed in to make them super moist *Refried beans with melted cheese and green chili sauce *Hummus *Guacamole *Pureed tuna fish (yes, this was good with a dab of mustard) *Plain Greek yogurt flavored with protein powder and/or Torani syrups *Any kind of soup I could find that didn't contain rice or noodles....pureed with unflavored protein powder added *I also continued with my protein drinks thoughout all stages as they are an easy way to help meet protein and fluid goals.

Why do I find this so funny?

OK this made me nearly spit yogurt out my nose. I am glad this made you smile and took your time out to respond. That made me smile (needed it today). I am so thankful you weren't eating lentil Soup when that happened.

  9. OMGosh today is the last day of my pre-op diet! Tomorrow is Clear liquids all day and nothing after midnight.....I have to be at the hospital at 8:30 am and I'm on the schedule for 11:30......It's getting very very REAL!!!! I'm nervous but still it's more of an excited feeling. I think I can honestly say that I'm not afraid.......well as long as I don't think too hard or focus on complications...........The main thing I"m worried about is nausea......I hate throwing up!!! I'm going out to stock up on a couple of things a little later today.....When I come home from the hospital I can have yogurt, and pudding and cream Soups so I wan't to make sure I have some on hand....and I'd rather not have to be in a grocery store tomorrow while I'm on a liquid only diet!.....I think I'll also pick up an adult coloring book, and maybe a robe.....what's all my other 16th buddies up to today?

    Craving! Help!

If you're on full liquids, you could put a bit of cooked salsa(not raw, or crudo, pido de gallo, that kind of thing) in the blender and pour it over greek yogurt. You may need to thin the salsa, depending. Whoops, just saw your reply. I think you could try a little cooked salsa on your eggs. That would be yummy! wait after that first bite to see how your sleeve likes it.

    Protein suggestions

I use Premier chocolate shake I add half a banana Greek yogurt and Peanut Butter some ice and blend. 2 grams of sugar in the peanut butter only use a table spoon and one shake it makes enough for a few days. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

    Post op diet

My docs told me to take 60ml every 15 minutes until I feel pressure or fullness, which has been perfection. I've got down probably 50-60oz today, and i'm on day two. I would say standing up while drinking helps, get the gas rolling out of you. You shouldn't worry too much about protein until you start your next phase, but every doc is different. I'll be rolling into my liquid foods phase starting sunday, I cannot wait for drinkable yogurt and protein shakes!!

    Scared out of my mind

I struggled something HORRIBLE to get the Protein. About 7 days in I had Greek yogurt that was a huge mental boost. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App
  14. I drink the Protein drinks with half a banana Greek yogurt and a tablespoon of Peanut Butter all blended up. But like you I can't eat a lot of anything. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App
  15. Should I be worried about Protein? Calories? Eating on a regular schedule? I'm doing 2 Protein shakes a day adding oikos triple zero yogurt to them to get in my 60+g of protein. Then having eggs, cottage cheese, or refried Beans in between. And getting in 48+oz of Water
  16. Ele marie

    Water!

No idea likely not enough I am trying to replace the egg and cottage cheese with the Protein drink. I do put Greek yogurt in it when I can find some under 10 grams of sugar which is been really hard. My husband tryst to get me to eat a little deli meat. I like to eat the same foods every day. 17. I'm a full fat kinda girl. Real cheese, real butter, real salad dressing, real mayo, real sour cream. I do drink skim milk because I like it, and I buy light Greek yogurt because the kids prefer it. Full fat tastes better and keeps me full longer. Much more satisfying.
  18. I have a hard time eating anything else than protein shakes and / or Quest bars. I can eat salmon as long as it not over cooked. Yogurt also goes well. Everything else is either leading to acidity or a trip to the bathroom. Cereals for breakfast is also ok. I don't know if this is related to stress as I am under an unbelievable workload lately. I take my vitamins but I feel exhausted al the time. I did not go to the gym at all this week, which means that my weight did not change (or not much). A week to forget. A year out

@@tnf0920 I have lost about 220 lbs. My standard eating plan in weight loss mode is the same now as it was 2 years ago, I think. I drop back into weight loss mode occasionally when I find I've strayed out of my comfort range. I am in weight loss mode right now! Here is my plan: 4 small meals each day + 1 snack & 1 protein shake. Breakfast: 3 oz chicken breast Lunch: 3 oz chicken breast + 1.5 oz chopped green veggies (asparagus, artichoke hearts, green beans, etc.) + 1/2 T. light salad dressing Dinner: 1.5 oz roasted veggies (broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower -- something like that), + 2-3 oz fish or maybe 2 oz fish + 1 egg. Sometimes I mash up the fish with some avocado or frozen chopped spinach or kale and some sauce, such as curry sauce, and bake it in the oven with the egg on top. After dinner: this is my "dessert" meal -- Greek yogurt, and a very small amount of nuts and dried fruit. Snack: small apple Protein shake: I use a half serving of protein powder and mix with unsweetened vanilla cashew milk.

    nausea

Get unflavored protein powder and add to soup, yogurt or even water. I am pre-surgery and already hate protein shakes (pre-made).
  21. When I first met with my surgeon, I asked him what research he had used to come up with his post-op guidelines, and why there was such variation in the post-op guidelines from different surgeons. He laughed and said that there really wasn't any research, and that it seemed like most of the guidelines out there were based on an abundance of caution- like no really knows the best time for moving to soft foods, so most surgeons have a really long liquid phase just to be sure. He said that when he and his partners formed their surgical group, they each had different post-op guidelines that they were used to, and that they just flipped a coin to decide what would become the guidelines for the group practice. Then he said that all that really mattered to him was that patients stay on Stage 1 (Clear liquids plus Protein shakes) until their first post-op appointment with him. But after that, he was fine with advancing the stages quicker than his written guidelines, as long as the patient proceeded with caution. You will get a lot of advice on here to follow your surgeon's plan exactly. You're not going to go wrong following that advice. But it also doesn't make much logical sense to me- there are tons of different post-op plans out there, but somehow your own surgeon's plan is the only right one for you? I say that in the end, you are responsible for your own health. I personally don't feel like you've taken an unacceptable risk by straying from your surgeon's plan with liquified, thinned-out chili and yogurt. It's not like you were eating solid food or anything else that might put undue pressure on your staple-line. In the end, it's up to you to decide.

    nausea

I'm 10 days post op. band removal and sleeve. rough couple of days. 2 days in hospital. no vomiting but lots of heartburn/nausea. hard to tell if hunger pains or nausea. salty foods go down better loving tomato soup. on pureed diet. Breakfast is worst, as I luv my coffee. taking Prilosec 20 30 minutes before breakfast. didn't work today,lightheaded/nausea. greek yogurt goes down ok and dry chicken soup mix. I am very sick of the Protein drinks but know that is a guaranteed protein.
  23. If I want something frozen I will freeze a Greek yogurt and it fills that want for ice cream.

    Sugar free ice cream?

I don't have a problem with Arctic Zero. I eat the ones with only 5g of sugar per serving. I have many more issues with lactose and since it's lactose free, it works for me. However, my favorite "ice cream" is mixing nonfat greek yogurt with frozen blueberries and stevia. The frozen blueberries turn the yogurt into a gelato sort of consistency. It's freaking delicious.
  25. I was sleeved on 5/3, and have been on the post-op stage 2 Full liquid diet stage for a little over a week. Had my first post-op appt today, praying I could move on to purees, but my doctor has a blanket 3 weeks of stage 2 rule. I'm getting more than enough Protein and fluids, staying under 800 calories, and having no issue with the supplements. I only get head hunger at dinner time. I just want to taste different foods. What's the difference between full Liquid and super pureed to the point of practical liquification? If I pureed chili until it was completely smooth (thanks to the vitamix!), and it was just as thin as a thinned cream Soup, what's the problem? I'm frustrated because I told my doctor I had eaten Apple sauce and Greek yogurt and he completely flipped out on me. Maybe he didn't hear me say I thinned and processed it until it was practically a drink... But now I'm confused. Is it OK for me to liquify things at this stage or not? How come surgeons progress people at different time periods? It hardly seems custom to the person and their recovery, but rather a doctor decides the plan that all of the doctor's patients must follow. I'm mainly focused on the medical risks. Is liquified chili sauce more dangerous than strained cream of chicken soup? Sent from my Nexus 7 using the BariatricPal App
