  1. A fun NSV. While on a call with my Dr. yesterday to check on some other things, she took a couple minutes to update my official medical record. Under issues, I used to have super morbidly obese --- she deleted it Also, on the scale front, officially 20 lbs to goal (which will also be half of my previous weight).

    NSV

Ok so I didn't know what an nsv was until I read all of the threads. I was banded April 15 and have had a few nsv both before banding and after. My capris from last summer don't fit at all. I feel more inclined the wear dresses now and feel I look much better in them. I had a co worker that sees me daily say how wonderful I looked and it made me glow. My anxiety how lowered tremendously since the banding and losing weight. I'm a happy girl!!

    12 Weeks Post-Op

First of I lost another 3 lbs this week. I can hardly believe it's been 12 weeks now and I have lost 51 lbs since surgery. This weeks weigh in came in at 391 lbs. I am on my way down and love that. I have had some big stresses happen this week with cut backs at work and so I wasn't sure how I was going to do with my weight loss. I did cheat a little on my diet but very quickly got back on track. I had originally set a 15 lbs weight loss goal for February which I didn't beat but I did lose 11 lbs for this month so I am still very happy with my weight loss. As far as my appetite goes I can tell I am just about ready for another fill. I have one scheduled for the beginning of April so I will have to stay strong until then. I can do it I know. Hard work and dedication is helping me a lot in this journey. Sometimes I think the band has been more of a moral support for me then it has been of a physical one. I know it has helped a lot in my appetite but not as much as people might think. Anyway I am grateful for getting the band and know it's been one of the best decisions I have made in my life. A big NSV (Non-Scale Victory) for me this week is I can now wear my black jeans comfortably. They are a size 48 which is a size I haven't worn in several years. This weekend Karen and I plan to get out into our garage and find the rest of the small clothes that I have saved. It's amazing what I can and cannot wear now. So what's the totals??? For the week - 3 lbs For the month - 11 lbs Since surgery - 51 lbs Since my highest weight - 94 lbs

    Funny NSV!

My cat likes to curl up on my lap and use my soft belly as a pillow (and to knead). Lately I've noticed he's been having trouble getting comfortable because there is less of a belly! He's kind of a runt but can put his arms around my waist now, lol. Even my mom noticed when she visited last week. This was not something I thought about 50 pounds ago, but I'm not complaining!

District Court Judge finally gets it right..

Read a little better buddy, I've posted several things in the WLS part of the forums, from NSV's to helping with questions of other fire and policemen, asking question's about surgeon's giving opinions on my surgeon, etc. etc. so before you go and get all high and mighty learn to read a little better(FWIW I was banded Aug '09 and am down 86 lbs, with about 40 to go). Stay the heck out of the post if you don't like the topics and if I feel like posting predominantly in one area thats my choice and I WILL EXERCISE IT! Are you a forum moderator? If not, keep to yourself.

    NSV at the gym?!

Last night I went to class at the gym where I've been going for a few years. A guy friend was there who's been gone since February and when I walked in he asked the trainer who that was. Hello! How awesome is that?! I was never someone who turned heads but it seems to be happening enough that I'm starting to believe I do look different. Such a friggin head game this weight loss surgery!

    Could you have...

Yep. I count that moment of Horror as an NSV (Non-Scale-Victory for you Newbies). Who would have thought a moment of horror could be a good thing?!?

Day 1 of Trying to Prepare!

Jazzercise is the only exercise I have been able to stick with as an adult for longer than six weeks! I love it because it is always different and it is both cardio and toning. Plus, my group has killer instructors and I have made some very good friends from my class. My best friend is training to become an instructor. She is going to start around March 2010, so I'm hoping that I will be going strong so I can help support her. That will be one of my NSVs!!

    NSV with Halloween Candy?

NSV stands for "Non-scale victory". Maybe it didn't come up in your search because you typed in "NVS" by accident and not "NSV".

What is your best NSV so far?

OMG -- that is hysterical!!! Well, I guess it's time for some new pants! That really is the funniest NSV I've heard! :crying:
  14. There is so much information out there about living with the lapband and some of it is contradictory. Take advantage of the advice you will get on here but remember that your medical team should be your primary source of information. With that disclaimer in place.... Eat slowly Chew lots Take very small bites Follow your doctor's dietary rules both pre-op and post-op. They are there for a reason Just because you can eat something, (anything, everything!) doesn't mean that you should Experiment to learn what foods you can tolerate. It is different for everyone. For me, I can't eat red meats and most breads. Plan to exercise. Not only will it aid your weight loss, it also becomes fun! Have a real life champion. My husband is my biggest cheer leader and my hero. Without him by my side, on my side, I doubt I could have been as successful as I have. Plan on making this a lifelong journey. It's not an overnight fix. It's not always easy but it is definitely worth it. Look out for, enjoy and Celebrate NSVs (Non-scale Victories) Stay in touch with your medical team. Follow up visits are a major key to your long term success. Good luck!

    Flying

NSV this weekend. I flew first time since surgery in 11/2014 and I was actually comfortable and had 2 inches of belt left over. Last time I flew it was right before surgery and I was miserable and tight. Barely got the seatbelt to close. Actually, the reason I even looked into surgery was a flight where I where I realized how heavy I had gotten and how it was affecting my mobility.

    Checked that off the list

One of my NSV aspirations!! Good for you!

    Naps, and the lack thereof

Sounds like a definite NSV! I've noticed the same thing - I'm "only" down 38 pounds but I have a lot more energy and no longer need to nap when my kids nap. Congrats, and I'm sure things will only get better as you continue to drop those pounds! ~Cheri

    What's really going on here

I've been working out since week 3. I find it gives me energy. My advice would be track what you eat to make sure you are meeting your Protein requirements before adding cracker, veg & fruit. I make sure to get in my 60+gm of protein and 64 ounces of fluids daily. Between that and working out regularly I feel more energized than I have in a long time and I am rarely hungry other than when it's time to eat. The other thing I would advice is to step away from the scale. It will make you nuts. I only weigh myself once a month at the doctors. However, if you just weigh at home, do it no more than once a week at the same time of day. That said, if you are on track then look for other NSV's. Take your measurements and compare.

    8 Month Anniversary

Today is my 8-month anniversary, and I can't believe it. I am down to 214 (but I DID see 213 yesterday!). I bought a size 16 this morning, and it fits! Yesterday, I had an amazing NSV. About a year ago, my family went to Foster's Freeze. They had little tables with molded chairs. I BARELY fit in the chairs. My boobs were hanging over the table. The table cut into my stomach. I almost didn't fit. Yesterday, we went again. I had that old familiar feeling of, "Will I fit in those chairs?" I wasn't even thinking of last time! I sat down...and I had a good SIX INCHES in front of me! I could sit sideways, front ways, any way I wanted! It was amazing!!! I am now hoping to get pregnant this month. I want SO bad to look pregnant, not just fat. I had originally wanted to be down to 200 before getting pregnant. And I guess it's still a possibility. I'm know it's rare to get pregnant the first month you try. I am now a size 16 or 18. Walmart's 2x clothes are too big. Their 1x clothes are a bit small (only because I have a huge chest still). I can eat 3-5 bites per meal. PER MEAL! And I'm fine with it. I get compliments all the time. And, anyone I now meet, only knows me at this size, not 290. I really don't even remember being this size. I must have been a freshman in junior in high school or so! I STILL can't believe how much has changed in 8 months. It seems impossible. Anyone who told me that I would be a size 16 or 18 in 8 months I would have called a liar. I am now looking forward to being in the 100s. Each day is another milestone. I just can't WAIT to see what happens!!!
  22. Today my boss calls and informs me she won't be needing me the rest of the week. Things are slow and she will see me next week. Well I only work 3 days a week and today and tomorrow were days 2 & 3. I can see the writing on the wall and know my days are limited there. So while I drove around hoping to find a bakery/resturant/grocery that needed a baker or cake decorator all I could do was think about all the food out there to be eaten. Normally I would have stopped at the first food place and eaten anything that sounded good and still have felt bad. You know what though? I DIDN'T DO IT TODAY! Nope, I drank my Water, licked my wounds and made the right choice. Today I am 3 weeks post op and so proud that I was able to mentally not let food control me but I controlled the food. I wish it was for a different reasone but a NSV is one just the same! -28lbs and counting!

50 Lbs Down... A Million To Go!

Congratulations!!! You are doing fantastic. All those NSV. WOW. With pants, those are weird. It takes a while for them to catch up. But when they do, it's all at once. I went from a 22 to an 18 in what seems like a day. It was at around 50 pound out as well. Now a 14 is a little tight but 16's are a little big. It will come. Keep up the great work.

Band to Sleeve lose more slowly?

I've been following another post that was posted by Butterfly23 in the General Gastric Sleeve Discussion titled "Benefits of losing weight slower than expected" where Butterfly23 makes some excellent points to why losing weight slowly is a benefit. These are the points that Butterfly23 posted and have given me a new appreciation. I hope she doesn't mind that I quoted her points in this post. Thank you Butterfly23 for posting these points. (see below) This is the list that Butterfly23 has posted on her post on the benefits of losing slowly: More time to develop healthy eating habits before maintenance Skin has more time to catch up (more time to lotion!) Shifting focus to NSVs like sitting in booths and chairs with arms Less chance of gallstones Opportunity to practice loving kindness towards myself and being grateful for any positive change Chance to manage expectations – if it wasn’t for WLS, I’d be thrilled with my loss, so why not be thrilled now? Practice focusing on my own wins and not comparing self to others Not having to explain to others since loss isn’t dramatic (yet) Chance to trust the process and not focus on the end (self-care, water/protein/low-carb/active) Redefine success as how I feel, not numbers on scale Understanding this is not a diet, this is my lifestyle now, so what is the rush? My favorite is not having to explain to others since loss isn't dramatic (yet) With lapband I lost weight very quickly and people at work were concerned about me thinking that I was ill or maybe dying. I'll never forget one division called me into their area and so very carefully asked if I was sick and if I was OK. WOW! jake
