  1. Someone's comment in another thread reminded me of the NSV moment I had at my regular doc's office last week. The assistant started to put the large BP cuff on me, did a double take and then put it away and put the regular one on! Woot! This morning, I put my pants on and then proceeded to roll the waistband up several times...to the point where the pockets were rolled up out of sight! I've been wondering how I couldn't have lost anything in the past two weeks but I definitely look skinnier. My shirts are literally hanging. Then I made the connection with the pants. My body has been redistributing the fat and my belly is disappearing! Double Woot cuz that's even better than the scale numbers going down! .

    "I'm sorry, I almost didn't recognize you!"

YAY YOU!!! Funny part is that lady is probably signing up for extra jazzercise classes, not knowing what you're doing LOL.. but I feel you on the NSVs cause the scale isn't moving..well actually I wouldn't know because I didn't go to the Dr's yesterday - which is pretty much the ONLY time I weigh myself.. guess I'll just rely on the scale at the gym. But I was able to buy shirts at Target yesterday which for me is a BIG deal, their dresses I could fit on a normal basis but their shirts and t-shirts were NOT happening... I bought one yesterday in rush and it fit great so YAY for losing inches!

    "I'm sorry, I almost didn't recognize you!"

Awesome! A lady at my Jazzercise class came up to me after class and said 'you have REALLY lost a lot of weight' and it made my day. My scale has not budged for awhile so I have to get by on compliments and NSVs until my next fill. ;->
  4. I'm off to Boston for a conference for the next three days, and will be in touch again Monday. I walked 2 miles today, and have made a commitment to at least 2 miles 5-7 days a week. Plus my calories are 1200. So I'm on my way. Oh, NSV today- a neighbor I haven't seen for about three months said "You've lost weight!" It shows! Now, boys and girls, behave yourselves, especially Christie and Felix:tongue2:!!!
  5. :lol:Bob, you crack me up with your slime/PB porn. I would add last night's tale, but will save it for a day when there isn't abundant....stimulation. ROFL Pizza...that sounds good. My favorite pizzeria does a crustless pizza that's actually pretty good on the nutrition front. (Yeah, too much fat..but hey, it's pizza.) I think I know what's for dinner tonight. I know what you mean about getting bored while eating, and just throwing in the towel. Too much work, sometimes, all that chewing. Larae--Welcome! Congratulations on your jeans NSV! Bree-Banding does feel like a miracle, doesn't it? Leigha--Too loose?! AWESOME! Congratulations--you're melting! Yes, my Pharmacology book is a textbook. Christie-Your upcoming week sounds so, so heavenly! I know you'll hit 40 pounds by then! I hope you loosen up a tad, so that you're more comfy eating---I bet that'll happen. As for me, well---I do need to learn patience (like you, Anne). The couple of pounds I was up are now gone, and took 1.6 with them. :cursing: Have a great day, everyone!

    December Delights 2009

I had to share this with all of you. I happened upon it (in a blog) and it was just what I needed to read. "What a year. I now weigh 90lbs less than I did when I started this journey at my consultation, 75bs less than when I had surgery. For those doing the math, that averages to just under 1.5lbs a week - slow losing IS STILL LOSING. That is probably my biggest piece of advice to remember, and surely advice I need to remind myself of. Even if you lose a small amount, week after week, when you don’t give up, those small numbers turn in to big ones. I had lost more most weeks I was on weight watchers. But I never stayed on a diet before. ...To think that one year later, I’ve done it. Sure I am not at my ideal weight by my nor my doctor’s standards, I’m so freaking close. I’m close enough that I get to- shop at any store I am fit. Or Phit, rather. I work out a minimum of eight hours a week, and I love every moment of it. I love that last night I did 144 push-ups - real perfect push ups. I couldn’t do five when I started seeing Julie in September. I struggle a lot still with loving my body - I struggle to see how different it is and how much closer to ideal than not it is. But after a workout, when my muscles burn and my hair is matted down with sweat, I love my body because it is strong and it is powerful. I didn’t start working out seriously until about six months post-op, for whatever reason it took that long for it to click with me. For those waiting for that moment, it will come, I truly believe that everyone can love exercise if they find the right workout, and in my lucky case, trainer for them. It is hard to say how much this surgery and losing weight has changed my life. In many ways I have not changed at all, and in others, I am becoming the person who I always hoped I could be. I am accomplishing the thing I knew I never could, and doing that is beyond empowering. I am more settled in myself, I can let my whole self just exist and not worry quite as much as to what I’m projecting. I am so grateful for the band... And so incredibly grateful to all of you for the support you’ve given me. I could never have come as far as I have without the support I get from my friends online, as well as a select few in my real life and my family. No one without the band can understand what we go through - the highs and the lows, the stucks to the the elation at experiencing a huge NSV. I have come so far in my first year with the band, and am so grateful that I get to spend the rest of my life with it. "
  7. Welcome Larae, glad your here, congrats on the jeans! HB--I console myself on the boob shrinkage by saying "Well at least my stomach is shrinking under them!" of course, this really doesn't help but I say it anyway. By the way, if anyone finds my missing boobs my husband would like them back, maybe I should set up a reward for them? :cursing: Liz--In case I forget, have a safe trip this weekend. Besty--Is your new book a text book? Christy--I am with you on the grandparents thing, my grandparents were the only stable thing in my life and they get all the credit for me not being a complete nut case. NSV-- This morning when I tried to get dressed, nothing I had clean fit. So when I got off work I went to Academy (they have really good prices on clothes) so I found a pair of Capri pants that I thought would be my new size and tried them on they were too loose! I had to go back and get a smaller size. I cant remember the last time I was in a dressing room and had to go back and get a smaller size anything!
  8. Well I made it. I was banded on the first and now I am counting down until I can get my first fill. I am starving!! I had a great nsv today put on my jeans and they are so loose!! Excited to meet everyone.
  9. Bob---you're such a bada$$ getting kicked off facebook! You rebel you! LOL I accepted your friend request--thanks for requesting me! The gig was AWESOME!!! Everybody had a blast and I actually got hit on quite a bit (shocking since I was working with my husband LOL) Elfie--I just friended you on FB Dottie--Happy birthday!! Betsy--Love the new pic. SO pretty! Leigha--OMG, funny you should mention. I have been having a helluva a time eating these past few days. I have never been one to take small bites ever during this experience but I HAVE to now!!!!! It's all I can do to get through this chili--have to go very slow! Thanks for all your help and advice--you're the best, chica :-)! NSV ALERT! Broke down and went shopping just for a few things (most importantly, an outfit to take my hubby out to dinner in on Friday for his bday). Out of habit, I go right to the plus section and they had absolutely nothing for me! I ended up with 3 pair of black pants and a pair of jeans (ALL SIZE 12!!!!!!--they are a little tight, but my 14s are so baggy I have a case of the saggy a$$ LOL) I know the 12s will ease up soon and of course I ended up with 4 or 5 shirts (sizes L and XL)!!!!!!! OMG, in the dressing room, I cried as usual, but these were truly tears of JOY!!!!!!! I am taking a ton of clothes to support group tonight for the clothing exchange, so I felt I deserved to treat myself to a couple of new things. So much for a few things. Everything looked so nice I had to buy it all. I'm not bragging by any stretch but that NEVER happens and I'm beyond excited!! You guys don't realize how big of a part of my life you are. Your support, advice, just listening when I need to whine and be a baby, and friendship are so integral to my successes, it sometimes pushes me to keep going (even on those bad days when I want to give up!) I love you guys! Thank you all for being there!!! xo Karen

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

I had my first NSV (non-scale victory) yesterday and I thought I'd share...I put on a pair of gym shorts that have an elastic band so that I could head over to the gym in my apartment complex and get some work out in. While walking the short distance to the gym, I had to continuously pull up the shorts. I hopped on the treadmill, and within seconds learned that I had to hold up each side of my shorts, all scrunched in my hand, in order to walk my 3.5mph and avoid showing my see-through black panties to everyone else in the gym! After 20 minutes of that, I finally hopped on the bike to get in another 10 minutes of workout without stressing about my shorts falling down...lol! I usually work out longer than 30 minutes, but the constant agony of pulling up my shorts (because they were literally, and quickly, sliding off my ass) was too much to deal with. So, although I cut the workout short, I think that's an awesome problem to have! Goodbye to my old, dear, elastic band sweat shorts!

    Secrets...

Congratulations on your surgery! I had surgery 6/5/09 and have lost 73 pounds since. I don't know if I have any secrets, but here's what's been working for me: 1. Get your Fills- The band doesn't work if you're not restricted. It took me like 8 fills to get restriction, so don't give up. You'll have to go through bandster hell - just accept it and realize that you'll lose when you get restriction. 2. I don't diet. My philosophy with the band is this is something I will live with for the rest of my life. I'm not going to live deprived and grumpy on an eternal diet. I do focus on getting my protein then vegetables, but if I want a cookie, I eat it and move on. I know some would disagree with this, but it works for me. 3. Get Support!! This is huge. I get support from my family, my Dr.'s office and a great blogging community. I started a blog right before surgery and it's an amazing community. This site is great too. 4. Identify your NSV's (non scale victories). This will really help when the scale's not moving as fast as you'd like. Putting on old jeans in the back of your closet or running a mile can really keep your spirits up. 5. Find some "go to" foods that help with protein intake and the urge to snack on junky things. Mine are greek yogurt, string cheese, Baby Bell light cheese, mini Luna bars and Zone bars. Good luck! This is a great post - I can't to see what others write.
  13. Juliansmom--Yay for the NSV!!! Woohoo! You rock! You'll have such confidence on stage with your new dress! Beautiful dress for a beautiful person!
  14. Yeah Cocoa! Woooohooooo!!! Betsy--glad Mark is home and resting during the wait. You are in my prayers!! Bob--holy wow! 100 lbs!!!! Congrats! What an inspiration!! Illuminationlady--Happy birthday to you!! Leigha-- thanks so much for all your help these past few days!! I feel a lot better and I'm noticing the restriction, now that I'm not expecting to be full after 4 bites! NSV for me today-- bought a dress months ago for gigs (I'm a singer part time) and it had a bit to go before I could zip it (two weeks ago). I have a gig tonight and thought I'd try it on and it fits!!!!! And I didn't need any Crisco on the zipper!!! I posted pics on my fb page for anyone who cares to look :-)!!

    Slipping into Shoes

One small NSV for me is my feet have shrunk. I bought some new shoes a while back and had to set them aside and buy wider ones because they did not fit well and were too tight. I tried them on for the hell of it yesterday and they fit great and I wore them the whole day with no problems. I never would have never thought of my feet shrinking…probably a guy thing.

    Nsv!!

This is an NSV only someone who has a couple hundred lbs to lose could appreciate: I was in my office meeting with a new client today. The client was also a large-sized female. She went to sit in a chair in my office that had arms on it, and she could not fit into it. I could completely empathaze with her, because that has happened to me on many occasions. So, I quickly got her another chair with no arms so she could be more comfortable. After she left, I sat down in the chair with arms, and I fit in it very comfortably. For me, this is a big deal, because for the longest time I had to think before I sat in a strange chair, trying to figure out if I would fit. Now, I know that I can. Hopefully there are similar revelations to come as I lose more weight. I am so glad I got the band!! :frown:
  18. Whatever her reasons/motivations may be, they don't matter. Bottom line is what you said yourself: You have only known this woman for 4 months. Why do you care what she says? Why give her this power? Just remember, living well is the best revenge. You can smile sweetly (and ever so slightly smugly) as you bask in your success. Each size dropped, each NSV and each compliment from anyone within earshot will be that much better knowing you did the right thing for YOU. :frown: Don't let the turkeys get you down. They aren't worth the platters they'll eventually be served on. kagead

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

Thanks everyone for the update on the port pain.. the new pain that we are all dealing with and kind wondering how everyone else was doing with it (that was for Phil:):frown: I am happy to say that the port pain has subsided 6 weeks post surgery... I am also happy to say that I am down 22 pounds 6 weeks post surger and now... drumroll... Clothes are getting LOOSE!!!! I am not ready to downsize yet.. but... those tight skirts.. well now I have the wiggle room (probably my true size now:):frown: but you didn't here that from me.... I will tell you that I am on the site abuot every 2-3 days now and really do look to see how everyone is doing.. especially us Jan 2010 bandsters... Today I went to get some cortisone shots in the knee and the doc could tell I lost weight.. that was a NSV... I love telling everyone I had the band.. I am sharing it with everyone... Why.. well.. just like everyone here.. I have struggled with weight.. and for the first time in my life.. weight is coming off without the stress that usually came with the diet.. or the screaming hunger pangs.... I also know that I could be taking it off faster if I desired... but I am happy with the process.. I don't care if it is one pound a week.. because losing one pound a week is better than gaining a pound a week.. and better than staying status quo... However, that being said.. SPRING is in the air.. the weather is warming up here in Wisconsin.. and with my new found weightloss I want to start going for my walks again.. I am feeling physically and mentally refreshed... I love my "Buddy Aid" friend in my lap band.. I will forever be loyal.... My only regret..... why didn't I do this so long ago... but alas.. this is my journey... and even if I didn't lose another pound I would be happy.. because the food is not controlling me anymore... I can have time to plan a meal instead of grabbing something to fill the belly.... So let's hear it... who else is happy today and why?
  20. Elfie-- congrats on the NSV! 35 pounds since your last visit--that's just awesome!!!!

    Marchies 3-year bandiversary month!

hi everyone thickchick: congrats on your 3 year anniversary and your successes. just think where we were 3 years ago this month... carol: good news about your sister....weight watchers really is a good plan. it has evolved from the deprivation diet to a plan that we can live with. there is a thread on here of people that do weight watchers with the band. i was doing WW but it triggered some eating issues i've had in past so i stopped. but i truly think WW is a good plan. well i went back for a small fill in tuesday and i'm back on the beam. a few months ago i got totally unfilled. i was near goal weight and i was tired of not being able to eat alot of different things. being unfilled i still had restriction but was able to eat things like salad again. But the Hunger-monster came back full force as well as my food obsession... so i gained 10 lbs and wasn't willing to go any further. i was fearful lane bryant would be in my future. and i refuse to go back there. so i went to the doctor and he put .6 in. at first it felt like i didnt have any restriction. of course my nature is to do everything big and want a full fill. but i didnt voice this. so by the next day my restriction is perfect and my hunger has gone down to a more normal level. his last warning to me "STAY AWAY FROM ICE CREAM" he said no amount of restriction can do that...so i have to exercise control. my ice cream addiction started after banding. my doctor feels it was from being too tight and not being able to eat anything but this....i believe what he is saying. i had an NSV yesterday....i passed up the free cookie they give at the sam's club near me. that was big because i havent been able to pass on Cookies....in a long time. i feel like i did when i was just banded...i have some of my mojo back....pls pray i can keep it...ONE DAY AT A TIME. anyway....this is our month!! josie
  22. Another NSV moment...going into your primary doc and not dreading getting on the scale and then hearing her 'gentle' disappointment that I'm still not taking care of my diabetes (read: losing weight) as I should. My doc is this soft spoken, gentle Indian woman who just makes you feel as if she genuinely cares about you and your health and I love her to death. She's been about for maternity leave since just after my band surgery so she was quite pleased to see I'd lost 35 pounds since my last visit. Interestingly, her office assistant had a gastric sleeve done the same day I had my band. She's down 100 pounds. You know, I thought the sleeve would be similar to the band since they aren't rerouting your insides around so there's no malabsorption, but she's the 3rd person I've talked to who had the sleeve and who are dealing with major fatigue and immune type illnesses. Wonder if it's because their weight loss is not as gradual since they're not spending months getting to restriction. Dunno...but I'm more than ever glad I went for the band. I took my son to lunch at Ruby Tuesday's after my doc appointment yesterday and, in the past, we'd split an appetizer, then each do an entree with the all you can eat salad bar. This time I had their appetizer sized lump crab cake and the salad bar even though my salad consisted of this tiny little pile of spring greens with a couple garbanzo beans and blue cheese dressing. When my crab cake arrived, there was a tiny little pile of spring greens on the plate...the same size as my salad! Shoot, I'll bet they would've let me put a bit of blue cheese dressing on it and I could've saved myself the $2.99 for the salad bar! Making a mental note for next time. The piles of snow are almost gone here due to the mid-40's temps and last night's rain. My fingers are 'itching' to dig into my gardens but we're still almost 2 1/2 months away from when it's safe to plant anything. I am so seriously thinking of building a greenhouse. Well, I need to stop in at work this morning and pay some bills and then I have the rest of my 3 day weekend off. I think I'll surprise my little piglet dog and take her for a walk. Now...where'd I put that leash? .

    I'm here to help...

I am cracking myself up. I thought you said, "I like humans too". LOL. Nelson is convinced that their are babies, kids and humans (adults). He doesn't want to grow up to be a human b/c we have jobs. I hear ya kid. And btw, I like hummus too. I made it for Nelson's party- homemade. YUMMY. I also like falafel, have made the mix here. DH loves it. It is not a band friendly food as it expands after eating a few bites. I felt uncomfortable for HOURS after I had some in November. Welcome back, Lori. That is a dream trip of mine. I am living vicariously through you. Jut got back from the gym. Went to tropical Smoothie cafe for a protein shake. They have a kid's one that is 79 calories if made with Splenda. (It's basically ice, banana and strawberries). For .59 cents and 100 cal, you can add 20 grams of protein powder. Not bad I must add. Today I got the lean machine. Haha.. that's me. NOT. They have them all over the US but not everywhere. Tropical Smoothie Café :: Real Fruit Smoothies, Sandwiches and Wraps Not to depress those in bad weather, but it is sunny and 74. That's not my point. I have a NSV. I bought a size 16 bikini at Sears (to sun my tummy at home) and I don't look great- but hey, coming along. Remember, I have no modesty..LOL. Even without modesty I wouldn't go to the beach or public pool wearing this. Don't want to hear, Look at the chubby chic in the bikini..LOL. Just got back from the gym. I walked 30 min at 3.5. I am really sore from yesterday and will wait until tomorrow for weights. I did sit ups and stretched. Support group tonight- if DH gets done with work. Always a crap shoot if I can go. Apples. HUGS. Thinking of you. Melissa~ so sorry to hear about your beloved pet. I feel your pain. HUGS. CBL, gotta catch some rays. peasout... Laura
