My plan would be: commit to weighing myself every day get or re-establish a Myfitnesspal.com account and log everything I eat, every day weigh or measure everything I eat, but don't focus right now on limiting amounts. Just to be aware of exactly how much I am taking in. No guess work! limit my food choices to high protein/high restriction -- basically meat, fish, and eggs -- and green vegetables. Eat that way for a week to see how I do. Good luck!

I am 2 weeks post op and got clearance from surgeon to start doing things physically. I bought a 3 wheel bicycle last week and rode it a few times but today I really went for a 12 minute fast ride. Now, I feel like I could take a nap....ugh Is this normal...to be so fatigued in the beginning? If you were and you felt like napping, did you nap?? Yes, I know its going to take time to build up but god....I am really tired. I have not been active in many years.... I'm just looking for some words of wisdom and someone who's been there... Thanks, Meg

After 14 months two insurance companies and much headache I AM APPROVED
Gregnlr posted a blog entry in Blog 56078
I started this journey years ago, but started the Lap band Journey as my 2008 New Years resolution. The year was trauma and drama, I fought BCBS of Arkansas all the way to the Arkansas Insurance Commission, who would not even acknowledge I existed, much less assist me. Moved my insurance to United Health Care and changed my Lap band doctor and today I got the call that I have waited 14 months for, I AM APPROVED. So here I am 51 years old male at 320 pounds. I go to the Shrink on Monday, not a insurance requirement but a doctor requirement since he had to remove a band from someone who was not prepared. I will then go on two weeks of liquid diet and Monday we will set a date. This may sound odd, but I am excited that someone is going to invade my body and implant a foreign device, but I am. I appreciate all of your entries since that has got me though this process. Thanks to all....:cool2: -
Well, I have already stopped eating with a nice Lean Cuisine as my final pre-ban meal. The two week diets was not that bad. I shaved my chest today in prep for tomorrow. Yes, I know they would do that, but I had a dry shave for my EKG las week and I thought this would be better. An interesting experience I must add. That had be a a pound loss . Anyway I am surprisingly not nervous. The only thing that was pressing was getting everything I wanted to do done before the surgery. I have my bag packed and will leave about 6am for my 2 hour drive. I will post again as soon as I am able. Thanks for everyone's support and this site.

Two weeks ago today I had my LB. Now I am treating my scars with Mederma and pretty much life has returned to normal other than I am still off work, won't go back till the 13th, (I have great benes). Today I begin to incorporate LB into my life, I bought a container for my counter to put my protein shake mix in, yes my doctor is a fan of the shakes past recovery. I made room in my spice cabinet for my supplements and made room for my scale. The interesting thing is I still have no desire for food. Two weeks ago that was all I thought of. Tomorrow I see the doctor for the first post-op check-up. I will update after that visit. If you are thinking about this surgery, stop thinking and do it. I believe I am down about 30 pounds, but will give the official weight tomorrow.

Dr. Eslami Or Dr. Waldrep, Sacramento Ca
roxannez replied to erp's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Okay, I'm back! 4 days post op and I feel amazing, literally. i got in 70oz Protein and 64 oz Water today, took all my Vitamins and had enough energy to go on 2 hours worth of walks and cleaned my house in the meantime. As far as the hospital stay the only issue that I had was a real sensitivity to the anesthesia which made me uber nauseated and then when I asked for relief the nurses gave me zofran and reglan and it turns out those made me even more nauseated (BTW dry heaving when you've just had major abdominal work is NO fun). After 24 hours we finally realized that the meds were exacerbating the situation and then switched to phenergan and then life was good again. I haven't stepped on the scale yet because I'm still bloated (I can tell because my wedding ring barely fits), but know I'm going to register a loss when I weigh myself officially on Wednesday (1 week post-op), In my opinion, Dr Eslami did a fantastic job. He visited me on day 2 post op and let me know that, "Don't worry, I made the sleeve nice and tight so you're going to get nice and skinny." I can't wait! If you have any questions whatsoever about the experience, please don't hesitate to ask. -
Almost 1 Month In and Counting ...
jess_e_white08 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello folks, I am new and so excited to have a way to connect to others going through the same thing as me. I had my consultation with my surgeon on 12/30/16 and didn't get an appointment with my nutritionist until 1/19/17. So far I have had my blood work completed and sent to the surgeon, my gastroenterologist consultation is 3/16/17 and my sleep study appointment is next week. I have yet to set up my psychologist/psychiatric appointment. I feel like the actions of having weight loss surgery are so far away but I know that it will get her before I know it. Q: Do you need both a psychiatric and psychological approval? I have this feeling that I need both but I'm not sure. I am so excited for to next months as I prepare for surgery. I look forward to connecting with you and hearing about your journeys! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Seriously?? Ha dmy 3rd fill on February 5th (I've lost 6 pounds since the fill) and it was GREAT!!! I FINALLY had restriction, my intake was way down, I wasn't hungry for hours....all was right in my banded world! THEN I got a flu bug this week, not feeling so hot, got sick a few times, had a weird waking up in the middle of the night with the urge to throw up but nothing came up episode yesterday and today I can eat whatever.....not getting stuck at all, not feelings of tightness, no hiccups, NOTHING. Is this normal after 3 weeks with a good fill or could I have done something to the band while sick?? Have any of you had really good restriction and done well with it and then it just goes away.....overnight????

8 days Post - Gas pain after swallows?
Jobber replied to darcyjae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Could be. If it's strong enough to be concerning, you might want to phone the surgeon's office to ask. I had gas pains for what felt like forever, but it was probably more like 2 weeks. Felt kind of like hunger but painful. -
Thanks Tiffykins. I appreciate that. I am in such a state of shock with all of this I haven't even known how to think. I am going to try to talk to him this weekend to see if I can get anywhere. For the past week he has been "busy" all the time so I will see if I can get on the schedule.

Ok to eat this amount of food or this type of food?
erikadawn replied to eejaydiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got banded 3/8/2008 and i got sick of soup real fast, my nutrionist said it was ok to eat saltine crackers, because once you start chewing they become soft, crackers and tuna was a staple for me and also bran cereal and mashed potatoes. -
I didn't crush any. There was one that I broke in half, but didn't crush any...and my Omega-3 pill is big....but haven't had any issues. Because my surgeon gives us Vitamins through IV on the day of surgery, and a Myers Cocktail 4-5 days post-op, we don't actually start taking vitamins for 2-3 weeks post-op. I did take the fish-oil supplement, as well as a magnesium supplement with no issues however. Breaking up your pills would be fine in most cases for vitamins/supplements, but some prescription pills are time-release and so you'll need to check with your doc beforehand. Most are fine...it's normally just the time-release ones that you can't "crush".

Wow! Measurements Are Telling A Different Story...

4 weeks here and I'm on the fifth hole in my belt. I was on the first hole when this started. And I really notice clothing isnt grabbing in the armpit and crotch area. That's the best feeling!!! -
First I should say I was banded on 10/18. I still have the shoulder "gas" pain occasionally, maybe once a day. For about 4 days now I have had a strange feeling in my upper abdomen and throat. It is very hard to describe, not a pressure, but not comfortable. I started having some minor discomfort (not intolerable pain) in the area right below my breasts in the center. I of course thought heart, but my pressure is normal and pulse is at 70 and I feel fine other than this. The feeling has traveled up to my neck area but is still in the center chest area too. It feels like something is stuck and not moving but I am eating fine and no problems keeping food down. It is less when I lie down, and if I force a burp it stops for a few seconds but then it is back. I took Gas-X which didn't help at all. I also have pain on both sides below my ribs that feels like pulling inside. It feels like my ovaries were stitched to my stomach and when I move they pull. That pain is occasional and when it occurs I am knocked down for a few minutes. I didn't call the Dr because I have an appt for a fill on Tuesday so I will discuss this with him then. I was wondering if anyone else had these pains? I did write a post a week ago asking if this was worth it. I am losing weight, but because I am STRICT with what goes into my mouth. I almost feel now like I want the band out, I just can't take these constant pains. I wonder if my insurance would be willing to pay for removal, I am not living productivly because of them, I have to be careful and not move to quickly so I don't get the pain in my lower abdomen, and I am uncomfortable all the time.

Is that the brand name? Got pics? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App . The brand name is "On" and the bottle says "On Protein Water." There are several different flavors. I have the fruit punch flavor and it is good, you can't taste the protein at all. Post-surgery I am having an aversion to sweet stuff, so I water mine down with extra water. Ordered it from Costco website but I bet you can get it other places. It's a great way to get Fluid and protein in at the same time but as thin as flavored water. For Australians it doesn't look like this brand is available here yet but I have managed to track down a similar product. I just ordered a trial pack for $20. If you are interested the product is available on the Bodiez Protein Water site. It is much harder here in Aus to get decent protein products. I have spent 3 weeks hunting with little success. I doný know what this product is like .. will let you know more when I have my trial pack.

When could you drink CAFFEINE?
NJMOMof2 replied to Pigsrflying's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor allowed it 4 weeks out but I figured since I went that long without it, why go back??? Plus, caffienated drinks DO NOT count toward your daily Fluid intake. Good Luck on Your Journey! -

I am so thankful that I took my measurements prior to surgery. While watching the scale go down has been gratifying, I just did measurements again for the first time in 3 weeks. Since before surgery I have lost a total of 14.5 inches from everywhere…and that seems impossible. Why is this a big deal? Because I am noooooooot quite into the next size down. Don't get me wrong; I can see that I have more room in my clothing, but actually measuring is showing me how close I am to making that move. And that gives me hope and motivation! I mean, I could squeeze into the next size down but nobody needs to see that. Now I'm happy to put those jeans back in the closet and try them on again next week. -
Congrats! I had my 3 month follow up last week and was told that 30% of excess weight loss at 3 months and 50% at 6 months was the norm so it seems fairly similiar/standard. My loss was at 33% so I had that same feel good feeling you have right now but I'm just 3 months behind ya!

Well I am on day 2 and am finding after a few teaspoons of chicken broth that I dont want anymore. So I stop, it is an all day process to get your protein in.. I caught myself taking my sippy cup into the shower with me!! Ya that's right, I got a sippy cup! I didnt want to chance getting caught up with too big of a swallow..! I love it, anyways, I bought 2 bottles of Isopure 40grms of protien in a 20oz bottle, which literally takes me all day to drink, and then I got a couple of protein bullets that have 45grams in 3 oz and I take those in a medicine cup like its medicine, otherwise I cant stand it! (Fiance's idea!) I am still very sore and can only sleep on my back, which I never do, so that's causing me back and neck pain, but it does get better everyday!

I am 2.5 weeks post-op and feeling better compared to the last 2 weeks. I'm starting to feel guilty that I'm not doing more around the house my kitchen is a disaster my husband works long hours and then he comes home and takes care of my daughter and I. Am I not getting in enough protein? Or is my body still recovering from major surgery?

Thanks for info. I had a complete physical ,EKG,last week by my MD . Hope that will put me one step ahead.

post surgery and relationships.
Comfy_Blue replied to KayVon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm down a little over 30lbs and even though he's supportive, I know sometimes my husband has a little resentment, but if I'm honest, sometimes I have resentment toward him too! Since I don't eat much, I'm okay eating the same thing for dinner 2 - 3 nights in a row before I get sick of it, whereas he eats a lot, so he wants something different each night. I resent that a dish/side that would last me for an entire week (like ground turkey meat w/taco seasoning) will only last him 1, maybe 2 meals (if he doesn't have seconds). It's an adjustment. I think keeping communication open is how we keep from blowing up or staying mad. He hasnt said he is afraid i'll meet someone thinner and leave him, but when i asked him before surgery if he'd resent me for being smaller he said ''only if u started treating me badly because i'm a big guy''. We havent had any major blow outs yet but i'm only a month in. I feel most irritated that he NEVER cooks and since i don't eat out during the week(processed foods put the pounds on me even in moderation) I end up having to prep ALL our Protein rich meals. We'll probably discuss that tonight because I also end up washing all the dishes (but that's a discussion for another forum) -
LOL. I totally understand! 6 mos ago this was all still a dream. My biggest fear was a lifetime of vitamins. Now I'm nervous and excited for tomorrow and the days that follow. You got this, 6 of 14 is almost halfway and it gets better. I found progresso soup chicken cheese enchilada soup, it was slightly spicy and flavorful. It was those soups that I normally don't eat that helped me through the 2 weeks.
