I am extremely happy with my decision for revision from band to RNY. I feel so much better. No more acid reflux. I can actually eat salads and raw veggies now. I hadn't been able to in years. The surgery was no big deal, either. Minimal pain. Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App

If there was a Class Action Lawsuit against the band....

RNY 2004. Regained almost all my weight back HELP!
4mybabies replied to CoffeeAllie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
i had the RNY in 2005 lost weight, regained, just had revision on june 13 Im never gonna be nomcompliant again! -
With MGB doctors usually bypass 5"-9" of the intestines. And I was just wondering what will happen if the doctor fixes a much shorter loop like 0.5"-1"??? The reason I'm asking is because I had a MGB at a BMI of only 33.. I had it done only after my doctor convinced me that it's a better option for me than VSG and I trusted him. Now I'm losing weight so fast that at 8 weeks out I'm only 5kgs away from my goal weight. I've consulted another doctor who surprisingly advised a revision to normal RNY!!!! I know a reversal of MGB (getting my stomach back) is an option but I had major bleeding complications following my MGB surgery and I'm thinking maybe just a revision to a shorter loop could be a better option! I'm currently having no problems in eating nor in getting 70 grams of Protein per day. I average around 1000-1200 calories and drink around 50-64 ounces of Water. I take in my Vitamins everyday. Yet I'm still losing so much weight and sorry for tmi but my stools are very greasy! So I assume I'm not absorbing any fat! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Band to Sleeve revision due to bad complications, nervous/excited
mreckner replied to kgarrettsatx's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had awful issues with my band. I NEVER got to the sweet spot. I threw up after every meal, every day. Worst decision I ever made. I ended up having it removed after a year and a half of zero weight loss and misery. The surgeon who did my band is starting to discourage patients from getting the band. I'm in the paperwork phase of getting a revision to bypass. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using the BariatricPal App -
Revision question
4mybabies replied to Sarah Nicol's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
my surgeon basically revised the original RNY. He was the same surgeon that did the original surgery. My surgery was on June 13 and today 14 pounds down so far. -
My ACL revision surgery went great! Surgical center was on point. I did a million things ahead of time (groceries, medication, etc) This time is less painful, better meds and best of all, I have a Cryo Cube. An ice box thing that circulates cold water around my knee to cool it, for pain and swelling. It is the bomb.com! I am not looking forward to PT & it stinks that I am going to lose so much of my summer. Hopefully I can do more stuff, like Tango when this is done. I wish it was WLS surgery, I have to wait until November for that. ($$).

Hi all. Had an awful experience with the band. Am revising to RNY later this year. For those of you who have had this done, are you happy with your decision? What can I expect? I'm terrified. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using the BariatricPal App

My story doesn't have a happy ending.
mreckner posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had lap band surgery in October of 2012. From the beginning, it was nothing but trouble. I followed my instructions to the letter, so this was a band failure. Not a surgeon failure, not my failure. In almost a year and a half, I never hit the sweet spot. The band was either too loose, or too tight. I threw up every time I ate. I could not eat the things I was supposed to eat. No meat, no eggs, no vegetables, no fruit. Basically if it wasn't in liquid form, it came back up. Having food get stuck is unpleasant. Productive burps are unpleasant. No matter how well I chewed, everything got stuck. It got to the point where I was eating all the stuff I wasn't supposed to eat, because I couldn't get anything else to go down. I didn't lose any weight. Not an ounce, with the exception of the pre-op diet, and the couple of weeks after surgery where I survived on liquids. The final straw for me was being in the bathroom, violently vomiting, with my two small children standing outside the bathroom door, crying, because it sounded like mommy was dying. Plus, I didn't want them to think that vomiting after eating was the norm. That's not a healthy thing to teach children. My band came out in March of 2014. Best decision I made, regarding the band. I'm having revision to gastric bypass done, later this year. My surgeons are now trying to steer people away from the band, and are more focused on Sleeve and Bypass. I, personally, would not recommend the band, although I do know people who are happy with theirs. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using the BariatricPal App -
I just had the DS June 8 2016. I went to my surgeon wanting the lapband. He quickly advised me that was not the way to go. After about an hour of discussing my eating habits and health problems we decided the DS was the best option for me. The DS has a better diabetes remission rate and the malabsorption properties will help with better than optimal food choices that are possible later on. The sleeve alone can still be stretched and your food has the same amount of absorption. I decided why would I want a procedure that also has a revision surgery in case of failure. That revision is the DS. It comes with more risk but more reward in the long run. If you consider the DS make sure your surgeon is comfortable with it. Good luck with whatever you decide.

How long off work after Gastric Bypass
Photo925 replied to 1Day1Life4Now's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a sleeve a few years back and took two weeks off. I just had my revision to a mini gastric bypass (I recognize that the recovery might be different for the mini option) on June 13th and was back to work the following Monday. I have a mostly desk job and noticed that I was a little tired, but felt fine other than that. I was actually surprised how much easier it was the second time around. -

Band to Sleeve revision due to bad complications, nervous/excited
MichelleStevens replied to kgarrettsatx's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had same issues with my band. I had it 3 years and had 1 cc put in it, and threw up for 6 months until they took the fluid back out. I still preceded to vomit. I went to a new doctor and I got approved through Aetna to have the band removed and revision to sleeve, that was in March 2016. My first appt I was 200 lbs, I am now 164. I am so grateful I had the surgery. Best decision I have ever made. No problems with any foods. I even had steak 2 weeks ago with no problems. I will tell you, that you cant eat a lot of food. It is way different than the band, but in a very good way. Good luck with your appointment. I hope you get approved. -
@Audacious Marie, I love my sleeve. It's an awesome WLS but I suffer from severe gastric reflux which is causing other problems to my esophagus. My surgeon wants to do the revision to the gastric bypass to fix this and it seems like the best option. I prefer the sleeve to the bypass but I'll do whatever will help clear up my problems. Good luck to you.

Band to Sleeve revision due to bad complications, nervous/excited
kgarrettsatx posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hey guys. I am new to the forum. I had my band in 2006 and initially had great success. I went from 185 to 130 but then started vomiting. They loosened the band completely and I have gained most of my weight back and am miserable. Recently started having bad pain behind my sternum. Had an endo done last Friday and I have a class C Esophageal erosion (class d is the worst). He sent me to his bariatric surgeon friend who I am seeing tomorrow. He suggested the band be removed since it is causing me to vomit daily (thus eroding my esophagus). I want to talk to the surgeon about revising band to sleeve and I am so excited for that possibility....and I am soooo ready to stop throwing up daily. Im hoping the surgeon will agree, that insurance will cover it ( I have Aetna) and that he can get me in for surgery next week!!! I'm overly optimistic and hoping I am not let down. Is revision surgery from band removal to sleeve much more complicated and more expensive? And could everyone who has had it share their stories???? thanks so much and I was soooo happy to find this forum. FINGERS CROSSED FOR TOMORROW. So tired of hurting and being exhausted from dehydration. ready for a new me!!!! -
Lap Band removal/sleeve in 2 separate procedures
yvonne74 replied to skinny06's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm trying to get the revision done as well. I really want a 1 step process but this new Dr doesn't have experience doing the revision so he wants to "play it safe" and do a 2 step.. This really stinks b/c of my work schedule. My boss really harps on our attendance. I know I will have a Dr's note but when I got the band it was over the summer. But my monthly appts, my boss threw a fit about it so bad that I had to contact my union and complete Intermittent FMLA paperwork to get her off my back.. Even this year, I was out with extreme pain (come to find out it was incisional hernia), but she emailed me and CC'd the assistant principals asking about my absence.. Then sent a second emails saying "A little birdie told me that you are really sick, I hope things are ok"... IF I can get approved (according to this Dr it will be difficult to do), I will have the removal in July (easy part he says) but have to wait 2-3 months for sleeve (this is the hard part with insurance).. -
Banded for 8 years and getting sleeved tomorrow
dvons replied to Mrready's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes. I hated that heavy feeling in my chest and the pressure build up if I ate too much or quickly. I'm currently unfilled waiting for the revision surgery. I constantly have to go out to business lunches, have you (or anyone on this thread) experience a need to run to the restroom to throw up? I had that happen with the band quite a few times and hated how my voice would change when I got stuck. After that, I mainly just had Soup for fear of that happening in public. If you could explain to me those types of scenarios (overeating or eating something that didn't go well with your stomach after the sleeve), I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance! -
The only individual that I personally knew who had a revision from a lap band did so because the band was eroding into his stomach and was about to rupture. He had to have it removed otherwise it would be fatal. That is not to say that your lap band has a problem. But I think this type of problem caused many doctors to stop performing lap band surgery.

First off.......you have rocked the band and done a hell of job in utilizing it to get excellent results........and have lived with those results....through what life has thrown your way. I have huge respect for you in this. You haven't trumped up excuses to hide behind. You've ceased the opportunity and have truly kicked ass. It takes just a few minutes reading around here, at other wls sites or in the two support group meetings that I've attended to find many who simply didn't get their minds wrapped around it before having the wls. I'll likely never go back to another of those support group meetings. It was draining and filled with anything but motivation.....but a gathering of sympathy and validation of bad habits. I suspect those that are successful are busy getting on with their lives and moving into new stages of healthy living.....and posting less or not in attendance at the various support experiences. Maybe I'll reach that point one day....where I'm no longer thinking in terms of being "on a diet". I'll be just living and thriving and not thinking about the bariatric aspects so much. I sure would hate to have to fact my surgeon in a future meeting.......where I'm sitting across from him with a sob story about how I ate around my sleeve. He is very, very clear during all the pre op discussions. He doesn't do revisions in cases where it was patient failure. Very clear on this.

Very helpful advice needed!

I spent a year in anguish over the decision to revise from band to sleeve. It was not fun, but I think that helped me really come to grips with how important this is. How big this decision is. I never had any regrets post op because I KNEW I had no real choice - that my very life was on the line. I have been shocked at how well it turned out! I am 4 1/2 years post revision to sleeve and still a hot ole lady - ha! I am loving life.
