Need Help. 5 Years Post-Op
lillieb53 replied to aves7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand the financial restraints but, it seems as though you need a fill and maybe a check up. All offices don't charge $125. I just found an office here on Dallas, TX that does fills for $50. I suggest you call around to bariatric offices in your city. Maybe you can find a price that you can handle. Good Luck! -
December 2015 Surgery Dates - Gastric Bypass (RNY)
ShrinkingButtercup replied to KirstyKirst81's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Surgery was on 12/15. It went smoothly. I came home the next day in a lot of pain. I ran out of meds. I have a large bruise on my stomach with a knot on it. It concerned me enough to go see my surgeon. He assured me it was normal and re-uped my pain meds. He's apparently proud of my progress in meeting my Fluid and Protein goals. I also got a little card that lets me eat off the children's menu. I'm a card carrying bariatric now! So, overall, I'm good. But it's a little bumpy. -
Calcium Citrate: What do you use?
Scylla replied to bloreorbust's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I had a one month follow up visit with my NUT yesterday and she had me bring my Vitamins in. I had bought Caltrate chewable vitamins with Vitamin D and apparently didn't realize they were calcium carbonate instead of calcium citrate! I am having a difficult time finding reasonably priced chewable calcium citrate. My NUT said they must be chewable, and not gummies. I think I might try Bariatric Advantage 500 mg chewies, but they are so darn expensive! -

Would like to stay in touch and know what apps are being used for tracking. I found one caloratio that was developed by a bariatric surgeon. Has anyone tried it? -
Are all calcium citrates really gross?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Klolojadie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the Bariatric Advantage calcium chews and really like them. They taste like candy to me. I like the caramel, chocolate, raspberry, and lemon. -

catwoman7 replied to Klolojadie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the chews are chewy. I don't know why they'd insist on crunchy Vitamins and supplements. I've never heard that. I know we're supposed to avoid gummies, but not chewy things like Bariatric Advantage chews. Interesting. p.s. my calcium levels are normal. -

TristanNicole replied to Klolojadie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much for this! She said because they don't absorb the same way as the crunchy ones, BUT your levels are good so that must not always be the case! From what everyone is saying ..and knowing myself..I need some of the bariatric advantage chews. I'm much more likely to take them all day if I'm not having a hard time getting them down. Thank you so much! That's what I was worried about with chews, that the absorption wouldn't be that great, I started with the bariatric advantage tablet chewable a and multivitamins but I only made it two weeks with them, I couldn't hardly get them down and it made me not want to take them. Today I went to costco and got the Vitafusion women's Multivitamin gummy 220 gummies for 8.99 and the Vitafusion Calcium 2 bottles of 100 gummies for 10.99. Costco does have a version of the bariatric calcium chews, they are Kirkland brand and are chocolate or caramel sugar free chews, 180 for 11.99. Hope this helps! Also after I can get to the 8 week post op and I can take caps and tabs I'll switch to those. -
Puréed Foods Making me CRAZY!
PhillyAj replied to nbflat2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
just make a Pinterest account and search: bariatric puree food and the recipes are endless!! i cant wait to make this pizza with no crust: http://www.kalynskitchen.com/2015/01/low-carb-pepperoni-pizza-chicken-bake.html?m=1#more then they have grilled chicken zucchini boats, turkey meatball, egg omelets & more. Sent from my iPhone -
So I can't stand light mayo or light salad dressings and I'm not sure I'll be a fan of Greek yogurt in its place. I get to start week 3 tomorrow and I'm so dang excited becuase I plan to make egg salad (I raise backyard chickens so can't wait to finally get back to eating their butt nuggets! 🤣), chicken salad, and tuna salad and I was planning on using regular mayo. My question as a new post bariatric patient is future plans with this eating lifestyle. My nutritionist said I won't be eating carbs for a while and even when I do start to introduce them, she said a lot of bariatric patients don't tolerate much of them. I was thinking low carb would be best for me as I have done it before but how would that work if I need to do low fat too? I've done keto before and to me, it's sooo much easier than low fat so I'm curious what others are doing successfully. Is there a way to find a happy medium between low carb and low fat?

i am a binge eater,is the lapband right for me?
Iris_L replied to briannalm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ughhhh...Ladies seek the counsel of your surgeon, bariatric nurse, dietician and psychologist (if applicable) Their experience and advice hopefully will help you. Bingeing is an illness for many on top of obesity and therefore your situation should not be taken lightly. Good luck -
I found this article on donating skin if you do have the surgery to remove it. You should have lost a least 100 lbs. At least it is a way to help someone else while becoming beautiful : ) How to Donate Skin After Bariatric Surgery Donate Skin After Bariatric Surgery | LIVESTRONG.COM Finding hope in donations of 'excess' skin Finding hope in donations of 'excess' skin - The Boston Globe

FYI: from start to finish it took me 5months to get sleeved... Each Kaiser will do things a little differently... My journey: My PCP referred me for surgery I attended a WLS class I met with a Dietician Had a Mammogram & Pap Had Psych consult Another day I did a Psych evaluation/testing... Since I passed I didn't have to do more classes (ex. MINDFUL EATING) Had orientation at the Bariatrics Dept. A few weeks later I met with my surgeon... Was given a weightloss goal (10 pds.) I was only given a few pds. Because I had lost approx 60 pds on my own over the last year. Next was a pre-op history & physical... But since I live 2 hrs away my surgeon was nice enough to do it the same day. I also walked out with a surgery date one month away. After that once I lost the 10 pds., I made sure that the Health Services Dept. documented it... And I made sure not to gain!!! Next were labs and a week later an appt with my PCP for medical clearance 7 days before surgery I did a routine pregnancy test And Lastly... I had to confirm weight on the day of surgery... I must meet my goal weight or surgery would be canceled as per the surgeon. That was my journey! Good Luck O:-)<

I am a N Cal Kaiser patient, and have just completed my pre-op requirements in the Fremont program. Do you know which hospital you'll be a patient at? They each have slightly different pre op requirements. Fremont has no Options class requirements. Fresno does, as does Sacramento, I believe. Your weight used to "qualify" will be your highest Kaiser documented weight in the past year. If you have a qualifying BMI on your electronic medical record, then you can begin losing weight. I lost 10 lbs before I met with my surgeon for my consult and he then only had me lose another 10. The rule of thumb is 10% of your weight, although that's not always a hard and fast number. Some surgeons in Fresno do not give you a "goal" weight. I had to have a current mammo, general labs/blood work, and attend the preparing for success class. When I talked to my PCP, she told me about the class and I had to attend it and then let her know if I was still interested before she made the referral to the Bariatric Dept. Keep me posted on how things go, and I'll be happy to share what I can as far as info goes.

What Do You Tell People?
DanaInNewOrleans replied to jar312's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You know what cracks me up about all the people who are negative about bariatric surgery? Apparently they think it would be better for us to stay morbidly obese living a half and ruining our health. It defies logic. Ok. i just decided what I will tell people if they have anything negative to say... Those two sentences above this one! -
One other thing I forgot to mention... Support groups. Kaiser recommended attending them so I went several times prior to my surgery and it really helped to have people who have experienced the process and surgery to talk to. I'm not usually a big support group advocate but in this case I cannot describe how much it helped me get my questions answered, get to goal weight, and get through surgery It also meant I didn't have to attend another class at Kaiser since the support group counted instead if the 4 hour bariatric lifestyles class Good luck and keep me posted on your progress

What were your insurance company requirements for approval?
Peacedove replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Insurance & Financing
CC.... Blue Shield varies DRASTICALLY from state to state. I'm told that Alabama requires 6 months of doc supervised dieting, as does GA. But I have BS of CA and although I live in GA, they give me all the same benefits as a policy holder in CA. So, they approved me in 4 days without the 6 month dieting! It was crazy unbelievable. I got evaluations from the shrink, the dietician, and the surgeon gave the medical and surgical evaluation....after I'd only seen him once. I also happened to have a letter from my orthopedic surgeon in favor. They approved me with no questions asked. As for getting your Primary Care's approval. NOT necessary with a PPO. Just make sure you pick a bariatric surgeon that is in your PPO network. I have to drive 3 hours to get to mine. But BS is also saying they will reimburse travel expenses because of this. -
BIG secret... good or bad?
swizzly replied to indy sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same thing happened to me -- the official 'stamp' that the doctor signs on says something like nutrition and metabolic medicine, translates like bariatric clinic essentially. Great, thanks... -
I am going to try this...but instead of the wonton, I may try eggplant or zucchini to make the layers... I heard that is a great way to make a bariatric lasagna! Thanks, I love the portion control part!!! Never thought of this...will try this weekend!

How long did it take for insurance approval?
Khloé posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to my first surgical consultation last Friday, Feb 1st. As of this Thursday (less than a week after beginning the process) I will have completed all my insurance requirements. I'm curious to see how long it took for insurance approval for you all. I'm excited about keeping the bariatric ball rolling. -
There are others with plenty of protein. I use Muscle Milk Pro premade shakes because I became intolerant of whey protein. It actually has 32 g of protein vs. 30 g for Premier Protein. If you get sick of sweet drinks, I have liked several of the protein soups available here on Bariatric Pal

Help with Pre-Op Liquid Diet
Debbie623 replied to PlBren's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was tough. I got through it using sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello, and broth. The broth was nice because it was not sweet. I had a lot of support from family and spent a lot of time in prayer. I am now post-op 12 days. This is hard. Your resolve to change your life needs to be your focus. It will not always be hard. Each stage will get better. I tried to think of it as a strange short term diet. We all have tried those. Make your life as easy as you can and be good to yourself. One of the biggest help was and is Bariatric Pal. It has given me help from so many who have been down this road and understand what I am facing. Enjoy your vacation! -
Hi guys, I'm having a revision from lap band to sleeve on Sept 29, @ Kim Bariatric in Dallas Texas, I have to do liquids for 3 weeks. God bless and keep posting
