Thank you so much everybody for the advice. I too thought it seemed like a little much at this time. I will keep doing what I'm doing for now with a goal to be around 1000-1200 calories eventually. Right now, I'm still losing and don't feel like I need more calories. I will adjust my diet if I start seeing the weight loss slow down or stop. Once again, I really appreciate the advice.

Hey everybody. I just wanted to update. I am 1 month post-op and down 22lbs since day of surgery and 42lbs total from highest weight. Although I don't really see much of a change yet, my family says they can really tell. I am thrilled by that. I do have a question though. My dr. has recommended that I try to get in 1000-1200 calories daily. Does anybody else have that high of a requirement? I am having a really hard time doing that. At this point, I haven't been able to consume more than 650 calories in a day due to nausea and feeling extremely full. My goal is to have 75 grams of Protein as well. I try to get a lot of my protein from food sources, but being that I can't really eat much more than 3-4 tablespoons of any given food, that can be a little difficult. I have been trying to change my Protein shakes frequently cause I still haven't found one that I really enjoy. I have been doing a little protein shot that's about 3.8oz with 2 grams of protein for the last 2 weeks, but even that has been hard to choke down lately. Right now I have flavorless Protein powder that I try to sprinkle on my food and drinks which has been helping a little. What are your favorite protein shakes? I need some more options, lol! Also, my Dr. hasn't really given me any information regarding fat and carbs totals. Other than being low carb and fat, I'm not really sure of a min and max daily allowance. I know all Dr's are different, but would anybody be willing to share their requirements at 4 weeks out. Thanks so much for all the support! Living and learning day by day!

Poll, how long until you really felt good ?
janed replied to kimmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, I know all about the impatient part. But now I look back and time has gone by. I was banded on Jan. 19th 2007. I was playing tennis after 2 weeks. After about 1 week I never experienced the gas pain again. I know everyone is different, but I did have an easy recovery. Just take one day at a time and you will start to see the light at the end of the tunnel before you know it. banded Jan. 19th start weight 212 weight today 170 Goal weight 150ish -
Hi. I had my surgery on sep 14. Lost 30 up to today . I am stalling for 3 weeks maybe more. I meet my nutritionist for the first time after surgery . She told me I should take fruit and vegetable with my protein. My surgeon was so against fruit . She told me no fruit or just few berries only. But the nutritionist said the reason I do not Loos weight is because I had too much protein and no fruit or vegetable . How about you guys? Do you eat fruit ? How much a day ? Thanks

What about the psych. eval...?
Dragonwillow replied to mousecrazy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just had the psych consult this last week. I have never been to a psych for myself before, and its very unnerving for them to write down what you say LOL. Other than that, he just asked me about the surgery, why I wanted it, why I though I had a weight promblem and what I hoped to accomplish with the surgery. He did say I will probally have to come back and take a questioneer thing, but insurance most likely wont' pay for it...so not looking forward to dishing out another 150.00. I'm poor ya know. (the only stress I could think of was MONEY ) lol...so then he tells me this! LOL Melissa -
Is my doctor crazy?!
LilMissDiva Irene replied to Lila21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it is true and possible, however keep in mind - she is a woman and she weighs less (so her metabolism is going to be quite different). It's not going to be as easy to lose as it may have been for you. Regardless, Congratulations for you're really doing amazing!!! Lila, wow - I agree so much with feed's Dr. I follow that same guideline that I will find my successes in more ways than just the scale. I specifically look for NSV's every single day! My weight loss has been much lower than most others around here so that is what I do to keep positive and know I AM doing a good job. Though I do use my scale as a guide on whether I can try harder or not. However I am very content on my losses to date!! I do set mini goals but and I have set dates attached to try to work to get there. It is disappointing though when I don't make them. I just set the bar lower this time, to something I personally know I can do. Good luck to you!! -
Down 100Lbs With More Than 100 Lbs To Go...
Frederic replied to Frederic's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've been staying under my calorie goals and increasing my protein helps but my reduction in calories hasn't offset the reduction in exercise. I'm not even sure it's fat that's responsible for the weight even with my wieght yo-yo-ing by 10lbs my smaller clothes keep fitting. One of the problems with weighing this much is that gaining or losing 2lbs in a day is pretty common I really depend on looking at the tend over a month and it's frustrating to see there hasn't been much change from my weight 3 months ago. Does anyone whose hand the band over a year have any insight on winter weight? -
I started this journey at 290 pounds, and promised myself that when I reached my first major goal, I could buy some new clothes. Today I weighed in at 250! Mission accomplished! Guess who gets to go shopping this next weekend! New underwear first--the old bras and panties are way too big. Next goal is 225. I'll actually think about getting some new jeans and tops then. BTW, I went to the thrift store this weekend and bought some broomstick skirts. I didn't even check the sizes. If they are too small, I'll fit into them someday, and if they fit now or are too big, I'll put a drawstring through the elastic casing. I'll be able to wear them until I'm almost at my final goal weight! That will help with my clothing budget. I now have 8 of these skirts, probably spent no more than $50 on all eight. New they cost $35 apiece or more. Now, I'm not a skirt person, I never liked shaving my legs that often, but these are long skirts and are great for traveling. Just roll them up and stuff them in the suitcase. Just an idea I thought I'd pass on.

Ok so this is going to sound either mean or wierd. My best friend (Nadine's) good friend (Danielle) is a nice girl, she means well. However she has no idea how to interact with other females. She has only had a couple of female friends in her life and she is 25. My friend suggested that we put together a sort of a manual for her (and she wants us to). A manual that will outline the do's and dont's of being a good friend. Kind of a what to do and a what not to do. She is very inappropriate and she does not think before she speaks. ex. of her behavior- One night we were out at a club with Nadine and Danielle's coworkers. ANother good friend of ours, Mindy was out. When Mindy gets drunk she does inappropriate things with guys she barely knows. We all know this but this does not need to be verbalized with everyone- especially Nadine and Mindy's coworkers (nadine and danielle became friends in college - they now work together in a corporate setting. Mindy was talking to Danielle and Nadine's coworker when Danielle came up and advised the guys Mindy was talking too to be careful because Mindy gets drunk and likes to sleep with guys she doesn't know. another ex. Nadine and Danielle are both somewhat heavy. Nadine carries her weight well - and has curves, however Danielle does not- Danielles weight is in her midsection and neck. Nadine was upset about her weight and was trying to find an outfit to wear when Danielle made a comment about Nadine being heavy and that she was insulted because somebody said that they had the same figure. She actually said this to Nadine. Meanwhile Danielle looks heavier than Nadine because of the way she carries her weight. In additional Danielle does not know when to leave things alone, when and where to approach sore subjects. Danielle does not think before she speaks. Danielle has had a couple of pathetic realtionships with pathetic guys and she attempts to dish out advice. She is in competetion with Nadine with everything- she always wants to have one up. If Danielle buys an article of clothing, it is only because Nadine already purchased it. Danielle means well- she is not ill spirited she is just oblivious. Does anybody have any advice for this little manual.

My Dr suggested waiting a year after to lose weight and just be healthier. I think its just a good idea to be your healthiest before getting pregnant but that is my opinion. I waited 14 months and I was off any and all medications I was on, my blood pressure was down and my blood sugar was normal. If I would have gotten pregnant earlier, Im sure I would have been high risk. As of now I have no problems and have only gained 6 lbs in 22 weeks.

It doesn't really matter, just set a weight you desire to be. Many people surpass that. Dream come true!

Thanks! I asked my dietician and she said to go ahead and use ice. I have to drink 4 Slimfast Optima a day starting Saturday. They have a capachino flavor that I'm hoping will taste like Starbucks by the time I'm done! So how are you surviving the pre-op liquid diet? I'm dreading it! How much weight have you lost so far?

I hate to shoot a hole in your theory but I wore a bra at all times during pregnancy and breastfeeding and my boobs are shot. I think you simply have great genetics and great luck. Then again, my belly is fine after weight loss so who knows. Its not going to hurt though!

Two weeks post op and starting to feel very different
newat52 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So today I am 2 weeks post op. Most of what is going on with me is emotional. I have lost 26 total pounds between the pre op and surgery. My surgery as a whole went textbook easy. Got a nice Margarita cocktail as the doc called it before I went to the OR. By then, I didn't have a care in the world. I scooted on the the operating table and remember it felt hard. Next thing I know I am being asked if I wanted to wake up. I was in recovery. Of course my first thought was Thank you GOD! I woke up. My second thought OMG WTF have I done???? I was feeling very cold so they wrapped me in several heated blankets and all was right with the world. After my stint in recovery, it was off to my room. Hubby is waiting for me there. I get wheeled up and realized I have been parked in a beautiful 2 room suite. Had remote controlled blinds and fridge, nice queen size couch for hubby to sleep on. Dining table as well. Don't know how I got on the VIP list but I wasn't ask any questions. I slept for about 3 hours and then the nurse came and asked if I was ready to get up and walk. I knew I wanted to as soon as I can so that I can heal faster. Got up and walked 1 short lap around the nurses station. After that, I did not return to my bed until after 10pm to sleep. I find it so much easier to get up from a chair than the bed so I was up walking every hour. I helped more than I can say. I was keeping up with the Water requirement so felt very good about going home the next day. Next morning I got released to go home. My stay was very uneventful. The nurses hovered and make sure I had every thing I needed and anything I wanted. I was told my Dr. wrote orders for several pain meds and anti nausea meds and I had to do was ask for what I wanted. I make sure to keep on top of the pain and nausea and asked early and often. It worked as I didn't experience any nausea. I was tired when I got home but started on my Clear liquids and clear Protein drinks and was able to keep up with them. Started walking around the house and then down the street. Walked whenever i could, slept when I needed. I was not amused at coming home 8 pounds heavier then I left home. Lots of fluids. It came off over the next 3 days and then my weight started coming off. Not as fast as lots of others but any loss is a good loss. So now I am 14 pounds in 14 days. While I was hoping for more, my body is still recovering. I am following directions and walking 2-3 miles a day, split up. I get all my protein with ease and water with ease. I am expecting the famous 3rd week stall. Guess it pretty much happens to most. I've decided I'm not going to fret over it or anything else. Over the last week or so I have started to feel very calm about it. I am sleeved. I am following my surgeon's instructions to a T. My body has recently undergone a major surgery. I need to be patient and listen to it. Most days I am very energetic and get tons done and lots of walking in. A few days, have felt fatigued and sleepy. I am listening to it. I am accepting what my body is doing now. For once in my life. I will let it lead. I will follow and I feel very good about it. I've put it on the track and now I have to let it ride the track. My job now is to give it what it needs to keep running. I know I can do this and I can't wait to see where my body takes me. I know I'm going to love the ride. -

Another June bandster here. I've lost 91 pounds, haven't seen this weight since I was 12. When I look in the mirror it's like I'm seeing myself for the first time. The only thing I regret is not doing this years ago! -

I have not had a fill since December 2015. Since then I have gained 30lbs. Do you all think something may be wrong. I have been researching cause and the slipped band scare me. I don't have any of the symptoms of a slipped band. Plus I don't want to feel like a failure for allowing my band to slip. Is it normal to gain so much weight just because I haven't gotten a fill. I will make an appointment on Monday to resolve my fears but I would like some input.

I also noticed hair loss at about 5 months. My sugeons' office does'nt think it's due to weight loss since I'm a slow looser. In my last blood panel done by my GP they said my thyroid was low and to recheck in a month. The surgeons office said low thyroid could cause hair loss and perhaps explain why I am a slow looser. I need to go back for the thyroid blood test soon. I've been taking Bioten for about 3 weeks can't say I've seen a reduction in hair loss.

If you are interested in this, then I would HIGHLY recommend you look further into it. It has changed the lives of many people, and can be an important component of a healthy lifestyle. I suggest that you read a book called the "PH Miracle" by Dr. Robert O. Young. He is not a Medical Doctor, rather a Microbiologist, and sees things in an entirely different way. I would go so far as to say that if I had discovered his work (and the work of others like him) prior to my orginal WLS, there would no reason for me to be on this forum now. Eating in an Alkaline manner (and that means MOSTLY raw food, Mostly vegetables and fruit) can change your life. Because of the restriction of the Band, it CAN be more difficult.....but....that's why God created Blenders.. It's certainly worth looking into. I think the goal of everyone here is (or SHOULD be) to GET HEALTHY. And, a by-product of excellent health is proper weight for your height/build. It's worth Consideration....
