  1. bee0927 grateful, most important............... that my health has amazingly improved - nothing else compares enjoy each and everyone of your NSV's - be happy
  2. So, I was pretty stoked this morning to get on my scale and finally see the 50+ pounds lost mark. It was quite the moment and it made me appreciate every ounce of the 51 pounds that I am now rid of! Having always been an athlete, it was scary to watch all of my excess pounds pile on after a few injuries left me unable to compete anymore. Then you become complacent (or at least I did), the outright lazy. The thought of getting off of the couch long enough to go for a run on the treadmill was just too much to think about, let alone actually getting off my a$$. It amazes me how my eating habits changed right along with my exercise habits (or lack of). I ate every single thing that I had never allowed myself to indulge in prior to my injuries…and enjoyed every, single bite. I couldn’t figure out how SOOOO much weight was piling on my body. I figured that is just how my body was originally supposed to be, and it just never was, since I was such an active person. Or, that is how I justified it to myself. So, now, after this morning’s humbling moment on the scale, I am 15 pounds away from my surgeon’s goal weight for me (and 40 pounds away from my own personal goal weight) but I am now on the other half of the battle (where the pounds lost weigh more than the pounds still to lose!) So, maybe it isn’t considered a NSV, but today, it totally felt like a victory!! It was a wonderful morning, a very humbling moment that made me feel for the first time in a very long time, that I am on the right track with my health. I didn’t really Celebrate my six month bandaversary (which was 3/27/13) because I was in the middle of a plateau and frustrated, so today, I am celebrating!! This site is inspiring, every one’s stories are inspiring!

    Happiness Is.......

That was a big NSV for me too. I went on Vacation in August 5 months after my surgery and I went to a hotel and used a towel and it wrapped around me like a normal person. And I got calf high boots with no need to worry about getting extra wide calf and in fact they are too loose on top. Super happy for you I know how it feels to have things like this be big events for you!

    Happiness Is.......

Great NSV! Congrats! What made me happy today??? Well, my A/C was broken (not happy), but I didn't sweat at all (happy!). Before I would've been found fanning myself in a puddle of sweat shoveling ice cream into my mouth.

    Feeling Great about Losing Weight!

That is awesome!!! Wor-what a compliment! I am sure your husband is so proud to introduce you to everyone! I read in your other post that men are holding doors more often. I, too, found that when I was thinner (7 years ago) that I had a lot more doors held open for me. I can't wait to experience some of these NSVs too! You go girl!!!

    First Non-Scale Victories Pre-Surgery!

Yeah! Yes, I always look (and hope!) for a chair that has no arms. Often I'm disappointed though because there is no such choice. I choose to stand rather than try to "smush" myself into those chairs. I haven't been in a situation where I've needed to try out such a chair recently though. I'm down about 37 lbs, so who knows, maybe I too have this great NSV waiting for me to experience soon!

  10. So what have I been up to for the last year or so? Well, I have not been on here as much as I intended to, and I miss it! To provide a brief back story, my mother passed away a week after I was sleeved (1/4/2012) and it was devastating. As the year progressed I tried to cope and put it behind me, and I think I did to an extent. However, to an equal extent I did not cope with my Mother's passing as much as tuck it away. That always ends well right? The winter/spring of '12/'13 found me at a loss to describe the constant feeling of something lacking. I questioned everything (except my marriage). I never gave up yoga, I have been doing it for over 20 years. The weight loss I realized had allowed my body to handle "hot yoga". I was well aware of the benefits but at my original size I could not handle the heat. Now I could. For the first time I felt confident enough to not just be a heavy person in a room full of thin people doing yoga. I participated, I was an asset, it left me open to feelings and I finally began to cope. Fast forward a year and I have got my hours in as an assistant yogi and working at my favorite studio, and preparing to take teacher training in the spring. Then I dislocate my shoulder. I gained some weight back. Somewhere between 15-20 lbs. I also missed my training, (I will eventually take it!) The shoulder was a bit more serious than we originally thought and it takes months to get anywhere near normal again (I am still limited in mobility). So back to modified yoga with an emphasis on my arm, and to cure the boredom I began to visit old familiar types of yoga, and newer ideas. Then something wonderful happened!!!! I stumbled upon a lady who has been a yogi for over forty years, and she created a yoga program that is designed for heavier people, the heaviest people, too. The bedridden, even. The modifications are the norm, it is done in little or no heat, the yogi is reminded they can reach down and move their gut. There is much more than that, and it makes yoga available to everyone, you walk into a space created by people just like them, and they are all able to progress and respond coming from a familiar place. It has always been my desire to get yoga out to everyone who wants to try it. To make it available that as long as they have their breath, they have yoga. I work with amputees, children, and neighbors that don't have time to get to a studio. Now I get to expand on that. So I am bringing it to Houston, and I am so excited!!! I cannot say I feel lucky - I feel blessed, I feel grace, I have been placed in a position to be the steward of something I feel very positive about, truly being able to be of service. So for me that is the biggest NSV, possibly ever.

    Relationship problems

I have been with my husband for 20+ years. We have a solid relationship. We would take a bullet for each other. As I lost weight my husband was a bit insecure. As ridiculous as this sounds, he felt that if I got attention from the opposite sex I was going to leave him. I had to reassure him and validate what he was going through. As my weight loss progressed I was involved with my gym, sporting events and just enjoying the new things that I could not do at my high weight. He was feeling left behind. I always try to include him even if he says no..its the fact that I asked. We made some goal rewards... couples goal rewards. As old as we are. We went to victoria secret. I walked out with size small panties (NSV) We started riding our mountain bikes to a coffee shop every sunday. I have been in bariatric cooking classes for over a year now. He eats what I cook and loves it. I'm so proud of him.

    NSV

Walking into a store, not digging to the rear of the rack or looking to see where the Plus sizes are hidden. Buying something because I like the style or color, not just because all they have that WILL FIT. And not having to stand to one side so people can get through. Wearing shorter skierts and even shorts in public and having people not suck in their breath as I walk or saunter by, the Dr are some of my Dream NSVs.
  13. Had two days of serious dizziness so i made an appointment to see my doc and he agrees....I was having dizziness from my blood pressure meds so i am officially off of them! yay!!!! my first thing on my list to get rid of as a result of surgery is gone! so happy!
  14. Awesome! You're already getting the NSVs!! I'm happy to see that the NSV appreciation is spreading!
  15. That was my very first NSV. I had to buy new ones only two weeks out!

"normal" food intake after a fill

mikesmom - I, too, have been ashamed that I haven't lost hardly anything since the surgery...most of my loss was the pre-op diet and to top it off, I GAINED weight after the surgery. I have to remember that there are a lot of NSV (non-scale victories) to look at....ALL of my jeans now come on and off without unbuttoning...they are usually dragging on the floor! I also have more energy and I don't beat myself up as much as I used to when I have a "bad eating moment". I suck at drinking Water and continue to eat sometimes when I know I'm satisfied. Hang in there...it does get better! I have fewer bad days now and I "suddenly" lost 5 pounds after not weighing myself for 10 days...try that and see what happens!

    Funny Nsv (for Girls Only)

LOL! funny NSV! I hope your 5K training goes well and that you do great during your 5k!!!
  20. Wow!! What a wonderful NSV this morning. I got to a meeting late in one of the conference rooms and all the chairs near the door were taken. It meant going all the way around the table to the front to grab a seat. Before I lost the weight, it would have meant unbelievable embarrasement to me as all the folks already sitting down would have had to pull their chairs all the way in just so I could squeeze past them. I had to do it once or twice before and it was awful. It got to the point that I always made sure to get to those meetings early so I could grab a seat right by the door so I wouldn't have to squeeze past anyone getting in or out of the room. So like I said, I was late today and knew I was going to have to get around all the others already seated. Well...hallelujah!! No one had to move in, I didn't have to squeeze my big ass body past anyone...this newly slender gal just walked past all the chairs and sat down at the front of the table. Whatever I had to go through in order to get to this place in my life was so worth it just to know that I don't have to deal with things like this anymore. What a great feeling it is.

    Not loosing!

Stalls suck, but they tend to be related to Water retention. Any chance that you've been slipping just a bit? I suspect that if you go into and out of ketosis, it might lead to water retention, which can cause a stall. The good news is that even during a stall you should be losing inches. So check you clothing and use the non-scale victories (NSVs) to get you through. Like a tunnel, there's a light at the end of every stall. Good luck!

From the album: After Revision to Bypass

Wore a Tank top to an Amusement park and actually got complements. We went into the water park too and rode the slides. Me, in a tank and shorts, in the water... getting complements and being able to ride EVERYTHING without even a second glance or to look for the extender belt. It was an amazing NSV.
  23. So, I've been gone a while - a work trip had me pretty MIA, and work has been very busy since I got back as well. 1. The towe I use for the hot tub fits all the way around me and then some now YAY! 2. I can have the steering wheel all the way down when I'm driving and don't have to move it to get in and out of the car either 3. Clothing sizes have definitely changed 4. I sat in a booth at a restaurant after much anxiety, it was no problem - in fact, I had to scoot forward a bit in the booth to eat. 5. I got my wedding ring on and off my finger I had it cut off about a year and a half ago to have surgery for breast tumors and haven't even tried it on since. Its on now Now i have to get the cut in it fixed I haven't been weighing myself - I pretty much forgot I have a scale. I have to start being more active - working out has not occurred like I have wanted it to - but that's going to change ASAP. While I was in texas for work, I walked everywhere but here, I haven't been doing as much and I NEED to. I lost 10 lbs while i was off on my work trip for 3 weeks - not too bad

    Nsv:)

I have been with my husband for almost 15 years and for most of that time my husband has never been able to pick me up without looking like he was about to die! Well today after we got home from work out of the blue he picked me up:). AND he didn't act like he was break in half. The little things that come from having the sleeve are really making me so happy I got the sleeve:). Just thought I would share
