    NSVs!

CONGRATS ON YOUR NSV!!! I love NSVs! I think they mean more to me than the number on the scale. My latest NSV happened last week when my 11 y/o niece came for a visit. I haven't seen her since Christmas Eve. When she first saw me, she stopped dead in her tracks and said, "Whoa! You got skinny!" Here are a few of my other NSVs that have happened along my journey so far: 1) no more diabetes or cholesterol meds 2) blood pressure meds cut in half 3) went from a tight size 28 to a comfortable size 20W 4) went from a 44D to a 40DD  5) can't wear any of my rings b/c they are too loose 6) walking and bicycling regularly 7) food budget cut waaaaay down 8) no need for a nap everyday after work 9) don't have to use the stand up tanning bed b/c I am too heavy for the regular beds 10) feeling comfortable w/ my body after a VERY long time of not even being able to stand to look at myself in the mirror I wish you all the success in the world with your new BANDED LIFE!

    NSVs!

Anyone have any non-scale victories lately? I'm only three weeks post-op, but today I noticed one of my rings is getting loose. The first of many NSVs, I hope!

    11 weeks out

Things are going fantastic. I feel better than I have in many years. I'm down 42 lbs. I have 2 times as much enegery as I had before. I can't wait to see how much more energy I get after dropping another 40 lbs or so. I had a great NSV this weekend. I hiked to the top of Helen Hunt Falls. :sneaky2: I cried when I got back down to the bottom. It was such an emotional moment for me. It took me an hour, but I did it!!! I had attempted it 4 other times (once when I was 20 lbs lighter) and failed. It was hard and every muscle in body hurts today. I could hardly get out of bed this morning. lol Anyone out there wondering if this surgery works...it does. I'm a testimony to it. :scared0:

Who Has Lost Over 100 Pounds?!?!

Hi, I hit 100 # about 15 months after being banded. I am now 17 months since surgery. Loss is slow and sporadic but health issues have slowed down my progress. My NSVs keep me going; my measurements (and clothing sizes) shrink in between weight losss):smile2:
  5. Sure, I had a lot of doubt, but also a lot of determination. I told everyone I got the Band so it would be embarrasing if I failed. I put myself out there as the guy that had surgery. Despite this determination, I still wonder if I can lose 100 pounds. Or can I get to my goal which would be 145 pounds lost. All this, even after losing 76 pounds so far. I will probably alway have doubt. Just have to overcome it with my determination to win. I sometimes have a hard time seeing the loss in my mirror. I really only notice it in my clothes size, scale and the hundreds of NSV's I encounter. Last night, I went to a hockey game in a local arena. I noticed halfway thru the first period that I did not touch both sides of the seat and was really kind of pressed up against one side of the seat. Then I saw a guy that I did not think look bigger than me squeeze into a seat in front of me and press both arm rests. Wow, did I feel successful. To you new bandsters, have the doubt, but overcome it with determination. Don't be afraid to succeed, but know success comes with hard work and discipline. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! TJ

    Spring into March 2010 Bandsters

Congrats on the NSV natrlblonde!!! I went in this morning for my one week post op. From the day I scheduled my surgery to today I have lost 25 pounds!!! I am very excited but of course wish it was more...lol. I was told that I could move on to softer whole foods such as fish, soft boiled eggs and tofu. That will be nice. Hope every one had a good week and have a great Easter!!!

    Lets Celebrate !!!!!

I had a great NSV today! :cursing: My 11 yr old niece came to spend a couple of days with me since we are both on break. We haven't seen each other since Christmas Eve. The minute she saw me, she stopped dead in her tracks and said, "Whoa! You got skinny!"

    closet cleaning!

I have taken 3 big loads of clothes the the goodwill so far. I love the feeling of cleaning out the closet. I have kept a pair of 58 waist pant and a belt that worked with it for my "Trophy". I now stop at every Kohl's I see and check out the clearance racks. I only buy pants that are 80 or 90% off and my record is paying $4.50 for a pair of nice Docker's work Khakis. I bought a leather punch pliers to put new holes in my belts and have some with 4 new holes. I love that too. Clothes fit is such an NSV!!! I love to look for sales and buy ahead. I am in a 44 pants now, but have all I need in 42 already. I am an OPTIMIST!!!! Hope you all feel so good about this too. Isn't it great to shop with normal size people in the normal size people store??? My goal is to fit into the trendiest "Levi's" and I find they stop them at 38. Figure by summer I will be there!!! Happy Fashion Show!!! TJ

    Nsv

sure! : ) and it is amazing what the Chinese can do with needles (the 2nd NSV) .... lol
  10. NSV is an abbreviation for what? I keep seeing it on WLS websites and can't figure out its meaning...
  11. I get on the scale several times a day. It is just my personality's need. I get on first thing in the morning, late at night, and after the gym. My usual pattern is to weight the most at night, less (as much as 2 pounds) when I get up, and even less after the gym (another 2 pounds, and I go to the gym at 6 am). I also see that my weight is affected by sodium and have seen 9 pounds swings between after gym weight and bedtime in the same day. Why? Cause if I eat salty stuff and drink all my Water, I retain it. I also take a BP pill that is a diuretic. If I miss it, my weight rises. My trend is based on weeks not days or hours. I watch the trend. What I do is record the lowest weight I see during the day (my psycological need) and periodically see what I have lost in a week, month and since I started. I have averaged 3.14 lbs per week loss. I see I am plateauing a little as March was only a 6 lb loss and Feb was 12 pounds. Maybe because I did less exercise. What I won't do, is agonize over what the scale says. EVER. I have too many NSV's to be pissed off when that happens. I am down 10 inches in pants size. I fit in a coach airplane seat without a seat belt extender. I can go on amusement park rides. I fit on my riding lawnmower without my stomach hitting the steering wheel. Those things make me far happier than the scale. I just finished soup and tuna for lunch. I do that often. If it affects the scale, so what. It was only about 400 calories and 12 g of Protein. You lost 50 pounds. You have to feel it. Celebrate. Don't agonize. See you in 50 more pounds!!! TJ

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

Had my monthly appointment with my surgeon today. According to their scale I lost 14 pounds since last month. Woo! (I want their scale at home, I only lost 9 according to mine!) I didn't get a fill today. So far, no fill and have lost 20 pounds since surgery, 39 since start of pre-op liquid diet. Only 50-ish left to go! I've been blessed with not being hungry. I still crave bad for me food all the damn time, but I don't have the physical hunger anymore. If I keep myself busy I can usually ignore the craving long enough that it goes away or I just forget about it! That has to be my favorite part of having my band! NSV's - I'm wearing size 14 jeans, training for a 5K, am able to shop in normal stores, can run up the stairs without my legs collapsing/lungs gasping, and best of all - I have collar bones and hip bones for the first time in my adult life!!! Life is definitely good!

    5 weeks post op

Hi Connie, I just passed my 5 week mark this week. It looks like you're doing terrific. I love reading about your NSV's! You've done better than me with the weight loss as I've let go of 19 pounds since surgery morning.

    5 weeks post op

Connie, you're doing great so far, keep it up. And, those are really wonderful NSVs especially about the potty stall. Many more victories are gonna come your way ! ! !
  17. I enjoy this thread daily. I have trouble responding to every post, so I just jump in here and there. :tt1: I do read every post. Anne said I have wisdom! hehe.... Thanks Anne! To all who feel down sometimes. I feel it too, but try to focus on some positive stuff to get me out of a funk. I do feel much better now that I have dropped major poundage, but some days I still feel fat and it brings me down a little. I also have those "mid-life crisis moments." Focus on NSVs helps me sometimes. Here are a few of mine that have helped in the past few days: There were a few times this week I felt kinda "lanky". It has been a long time since I had that "lanky" feeling! I got some positive comments from patients this week. One young gal looked at me after I took her x-rays and said "you look so different!" I told her I have lost 80 lbs since the last time she was in. She said, "omg! that's it! you look great!" Another patient kept looking and finally said, "have you lost a bunch of weight or something?" It's really a good feeling. I went closet shopping again today! I found several more things that fit!!! I am wearing a pair of jeans right now that I could not get zipped a couple weeks ago! They fit great today! woot! I pulled the next pair of jeans to the front of the closet. They will be the next I shrink in to!

    Twenties NSVs

Sharing clothes is a fantastic NSV! All throughout college I was jealous of my roommates because they could all share clothes... just once I want to wear something that belongs to a skinny friend. I'm getting there!
  19. Journey, it sounds like you are doing everything the doctors told me to do after surgery. Don't forget that you had MAJOR surgery and it takes sometime for your body to recover from that sort of trauma and you are in healing mode. The weight will come off, just be patient... I know it's hard but, just stick to your doctor's plan and you'll see changes. Did you take measurements before surgery so you can compare at 1 month post-op, I didn't see much weight during my 1st month post-op but lost over 10 inches and it made for a great NSV.

    Twenties NSVs

Had an amazing NSV happen recently! My mom is 5'0 and around 125lbs - not super skinny, but totally petite and cute! I have always felt giant compared to her. Well recently when I was home she was able to give me a jacket that she had bought that was too long on her AND a pair of her size 29 Hudson jeans that were too big on her now - i've inspired her to drop about 5-10lbs. Getting to share clothes with my mom is one of the most special NSVs yet!

Heck no am I saying you don't have a life, so hope you don't take it that way!!! I was being sarcastic regarding the topic of posting because you have too much time on your hands, I was actually referring to me..LOL. And right now, I do have time on my hands (hope I don't jinx myself). And you are also very right, I am not having any band problems so I guess posting here is a NSV (non-scale victory)..lol I like what you have to say as well

    December Delights 2009

it's me....missing in action girl. A friend of mine went in for lapband last week--and they couldn't do it. ;( still unclear of the details or weather or not she gets another shot. I am so sad for her....all that money and nothing to show for it. I decided that I need to work even harder in honor of her. and I realized I *have* been eating around my band. I am still eating smaller portions and losing 1lb a week but I haven't been following some of the rules. I have a 10 day challenge for myself...from now until good friday I am going to be even more mindful--- following all the rules and documenting every bite. We will see how that goes. I had coffee at 7:30 am and postponed breakfast ( greek yogurt with Special K flakes) until 10:30. It didn't kill me. Getting ready to eat my lunch black beans and cottage cheese. I miss you all.....and need to get better at posting. PS--- My hubby bought me a bike for our anniversary last week. We spent all weekend on the trails. That is a HUGE NSV for me~

    Nsv!!

Howdy! I had NSVs this weekend... 1) I RODE A BIKE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 25+ YEARS! We have a very pretty arboretum/park less than 10 minutes from our house that has a 4 mile bike path. I had to walk my bike up the really big hills, but I was able to ride most of the way. I've decided that I will either ride the path 2x or walk the path 1x at least three days/week. 2) I WORE A SIZE 20 FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 15+ YEARS! The temperature got up to 75 degrees today. I wore a size 20 pair of ankle pants, a lightweight sweater, and sandals. It felt so great to not be bundled up like "Nanook of the North." My hubby commented that I should go do some shopping for spring clothing because my clothes looked too baggy. I understood what he was saying about the sweater because it fit me 65lbs ago. I think I was more excited about the pants being baggy. I might go out next week and try on some size 18s!
  25. It sounds like some of you are getting the bad weather That was here Fri. It's really nice here today and the snow is melting. Great NSVs Elfie! All this bra and panty talk is depressing. I went drawer shopping in my bra drawer today and threw away some stuff. I have gone from a 42DD to a 38C +/38D- already  darn it! I didn't like the DDs, but I still have some weight to take off and it would be nice if it came off in the right places!
