    Pre op to post op

I was banded on Friday (May 28) in Mexico. I had the option to stay until Sunday but chose to come home yesterday because I felt it would be more comfortable at home. Right after the surgery I had pain in my shoulder and more gas pains than anything else. Today there is very little pain - just a little discomfort. I do have to say that on the drive home, I drooled over every restaurant that I passed by and the food ads on television are driving me crazy. This eating clear liquids for a week is not going to be fun but I am definitely not going to do anything but follow the rules. What did surprise me is what small drinks of liquids you have to take. If I take too large of a sip, it feels like it gets caught - I guess like it's going down a funnel. Weird.

    Banded This Morning!

Congrats on the life change!!! I got banded last week and am now on pureed food...the only hungry days I had was day 5 and 6. But I guess it all depends on what your doctor and dietitian recommend for you on your post-op diet. I am amazed reading the various differences given. But good luck!
  3. I have a 2 yo. who weighs 30 lbs. I had help for the first 2 weeks and didn't lift her at all. After 2 weeks, I had to lift her some, just like you said. It's basically pretty avoidable, but sometimes you just have to pick them up. Doctor said after 2 weeks was ok but to MINIMIZE it. (emphasis his) I did, I'm ok. After 3 weeks I was totally cleared for toddler lifting. Just keep it as minimal as possible and get help when you can. Hang in there, and check with your doctor to make sure (s)he's okay with it. Good luck.

    Pre Op Day 2

So yesterday I actually made it without cheating! I started my day by attempting to drink the protein shake I made using the Relaunch Unflavored Protein that is created by my doctors clinic. But I made it wrong and I couldn’t take it. So I ate the 3 protein bars that are allowed and my one 500 calorie lien meal. I went to bed early because if I didn’t I would’ve caved. Today I attempted the protein again using 12 oz of cold water, 1 scoop of the unflavored protein and one pack of true lemon original lemonade (similar to crystal light). I put it in my blender bottle, gave it a good shake or two lol and drank it. It was very easy to tolerate and now I don’t have to spend additional money on the Premier Protein Clear drinks!! Hopefully today I’m less tempted and can push through once again so that I can get my mental ready for the surgery and post op!! Only 13 days left including today 🤗

iBand - anyone had this WLS?

I just had it a week ago. I did a lot of research and heard this was very close to getting a sleeve without losing you're stomach. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

  7. Vitamins, minerals and other dietary supplements are important for staying healthy when you’re a bariatric surgery patient. Not every patient receives the same advice and some patients don’t know the best options. This forum is a great place to let everyone know which bariatric supplements YOU take. Can you please take a few minutes to share which dietary supplements you take? Thanks for spreading the word! 1. Do you take a bariatric daily multivitamin/mineral supplement? Which brand and formulation specifically? For example, you might take Centrum for Women or One a Day Women’s Active Metabolism. 2. Which bariatric vitamins and minerals do you take each day? What is the brand and formulation of each? For example, you might take Puritan’s Pride Calcium Magnesium Vitamin D or Nature Made Iron 65 mg (ferrous sulfate). 3. Which other supplements (including herbals) do you take, and what brands are they? For example, you might take Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omegas fish oil.
  8. Everyone a little different, I was drinking pretty good after getting out of hospital, more than sipping. This is not like bypass surgery, you still have a stomach the size of a medium to large banana. Just don't drink more than 30 minutes before eating, so you can eat, during meals so you don't fill up on liquids, and not to soon after to prevent washing the food through the system before minerals and vitamins absorbed since you are taking in so little after surgery and for next 4 to 6 weeks.

Need MOTIVATION to go to the gym!

Hi Curvy! I love to workout as well. I just wanted to tell you that I had a hard time with getting back into the swing post op too. I think it must have taken months! I just felt incredibly lazy, which I do attribute it to the 6 weeks of liquids and tiny portions. Now today I have much more energy to get them done! You should join our social group for those of us who enjoy working out or just need the daily motivation to keep doing them. I agree, you will look SMASHING in that dress if you keep your body toned up. It will be so worth it!!! One year out today.

Does anyone know how much weight loss is typical ? I'm three months and one week post op and I'm down 80 lbs since surgery is that considered good or not enough?

    Eating too much?

At 4 months, my dietitians wanted me to be eating more real food. I was told 3 meals of real food, and no Snacks. If I hadn't met my Protein goal, then it was allowed 1 shake per day as a snack. They explained that at that point, it's critical to be strict because that was when people would stop following the basic rules and would not lose due to snacking all the time. So, I had to cut out all snacks and completely change the way I ate. I'm so glad I did too...because it taught me that I need to always be on guard for sneaky old habits that try to immerse at any time. I am now 7 months post op on Tuesday, down 101 pounds, with 4 to go to meet surgeons goal and 24 for my own goal. Good luck n he rest of your journey. It's a bumpy ride.

    HFLC eating plan

Thank you blizair09 for answering. I have been following this for a week and have found it very easy although a bit sickly with all the fats. I might continue for another week and re-assess. Kate
  14. I remember that phase but if you want to know the funny thing - I only remember it when someone else brings it up. So know that it will fade (and pretty quickly too). That first 3-4 were pretty tough. But then everything gets better and better as each day goes by. (Hope it continues that way!). I still don't do consistent exercise. Bad Me! But it's more than I used to do. So there's that.
  15. Does anybody else's doctor tell them they had to do the test even though you had gastric bypass? I thought we weren't supposed to have this test done because we had surgery and I'm 25 weeks out and need to know what most of doctors are telling you guys DOS: 1/21/12 SW: 367 LBS CW: 185 LBS

    Frustration

No reason to say the same thing as above, However look at it as positive look at the weight loss you have acquired - So it may take you a little longer Just stay focused and on track. In years ahead willl it really matter that it took 16 months to get healthy and at your goal weight Vs the frustration you are feeling being anxious to get it off quickly. It wont matter down the road, Stay healthy and you got this! FYI mix up your calories a little and do some intermittent fasting to break the stalls. Worked for me

    Mississippi Sleevers

The meal plan is not hard. I find that I must eat about every two hours in order to get all of my calories in. If I let them drop, I stop loosing. I didn't eat whole foods until week six post op. And yes, I had to see a dr every month for six months to document my weight before I was approved.

    Expedited Passport

My husband and I chose the option to obtain the "passport card" instead of the "book". The card can be used for all land and sea travel. The passport card is also half the price of the traditional passport book. Ours came in about 3 weeks after filling out the order.

    tight at night

I've had that issue when I have to wait to eat due to working on something. I really have that issue if I lay down to take a quick nap and that nap turns into 3 hours on the couch and I wake up at 8 and haven't eaten. I normally attribute that to having been laying down for 3 hours. If I were you since you aren't getting stuck I would try and eat earlier and make sure you chew well and take small bites.
  20. @@slc3568 Alot of people feel this way before surgery. You are experiencing withdrawal of nicotine and caffeine on top of the usual nerves of WLS. Think of all the things you want to do once you lose weight - remember the answers to "why bother?" when you start to have doubts and stay strong - you have less than a week - you can do this!
  21. My surgery will be Thursday, so I'm just a tiny step ahead of you. My first several days seemed impossible. I cried, got angry, laughed uncontollably, etc. All nerves. I was so tempted to eat something bad that it took every bit of my willpower to resist. However, with each and every time I resisted, I was getting stronger. I read other people's stories on here. When I started reading about people who were like me, or in even worse shape than myself, are today running for fun, doing mud runs and marathons, kayaking, enjoying life, I realized there were much bigger reasons than just the inconvenience of my size to be doing this. Reading about others getting stronger and about their victories over the battles that I am facing and will face, has been an encouragement. Begin now to look deeper inside yourself for your own inner strength to get the victory over what has had control over you for so long. The surgery only helps with the physical aspect. There is a mind game to be won, and that battle begins with the pre-op. It does get easier. The last couple of days, I barely feel hungry at all. When I do, first I drink Water. If that doesn't help after 15 minutes, then I get a shake. I only drink 3 shakes a day, some broth and water. If i can do it, You CAN do it! You know now that your boyfriend supports you and has your back. Now, you can show him a glimpse of this new, amazing, confident, inner-strong young lady with determination that is about to emerge when you show him that you've got this. 22. Hello! I am 5 months out, and 55 lbs down. This past week I've been feeling... hungry? I don't know if it's actual hunger or head hunger? But I'm craving food unlike how I have craved food before... and I feel kind of an emptiness in my esophagus. I know that after getting sleeves we no longer make the hunger hormone... so we shouldn't be feeling hungry. I don't even remember what actual hunger feels like, especially since I got head hungry a lot before surgery. However, on this forum I have read that hunger comes back to people after some time. What is everyone else's experience with this? Is what I am feeling actual hunger? Has anyone else's hunger returned?

    Squats

Listen to your body and talk to your doctor. I did a lot of walking the first week, light exercise the second and was back to water aerobics (including squats) by week 3. However I had literally no pain or issues throughout the entire processed. I was able to walk in recovery and didn't use any pain meds from day1. I checked in with my nurse and surgeon before advancing to all activities.

From the album: Jachut - post rectal cancer, pre tummy tuck

This bulge was never there before, apparently my tummy muscles survived 3 pregnancies but the stoma was too much for them
  25. Got my band in 2009. It never really worked kept getting unfilled because of issues finally it was discovered the band had dilated my esophagus so I was revised to the sleeve. The sleeve was great in the beginning then in month 3 bad reflux throwing up at night on three different meds for it. Got dilated four times had the bravo test and other so now I have to do bypass. I didn't choose bypass in the beginning because of the rearranging I am nervous and scared but I can't live like this with the reflux I also don't want to lose too much more weight. I went from a size 18 to a 10. I lost nearly 60 pounds and I work out so I've lost more inches. Anyone else in my boat any stories. To share. My surgery is in two weeks it's being done as medically necessary. I have blue cross federal basic
