3 months post VSG and NOTHING

If you weigh/measure the food before you start then weigh/measure it when you finish you can figure out how much you ate. You may not be eating enough if you are really eating 2/3 bites and that's it. If you are not eating your body will go into starvation mode and store everything rather than burning it. Same with the protein, you need to hit that goal so you can nourish your body and it doesn't starve. Maybe try prepping a few days of meals at a time so you don't have to keep measuring your foods, you will just know what it is and can reuse the data. It may make it less cumbersome for you that way? It really is amazing how people "think" they are eating in comparison to how they are actually eating. Tracking is key here, even just until you get the hang of it. Once I decided to have WLS I had my first dietician apt and at that moment started tracking without any change. I was disgusted to see how many calories and fat I was eating in a day. Wondering why I am so fat when I don't really eat that much. I was also one of those "eat 3000 calories once a day" type of people rather than 3 balanced meals. All of these things effect weight loss and/or gain. But when it really comes down to it, it is the calorie deficit that forces weight loss.

3 months post VSG and NOTHING

I asked her for a diet that I can follow .. coz clearly eating balanced isn’t working for me! She said to try it for two weeks and check back in. The only goals I have are the 60 grams of protein and 2 liters of water. I keep starting tracking my food and then stopping because it’s so difficult to figure out the qty when you have two bites and then don’t want anymore and so on but I guess that’s the link I’m missing. It’s so counter productive but all I want to do now is skip the gym, drive home and get on the couch :(

3 months post VSG and NOTHING

Hey everyone, I just finished 3 months post VSG and am on my fourth month! I just met with my nutritionist and sadly I have only lost 5 pounds in around 50 days. My plan doesn’t require me to stop carbs or anything, they just want me to hit 60g or protein (I’m hitting around 30g) I thought I was doing really well! I’ve been working out and the mirror is my friend, I feel like I’ve been hit by a train after seeing my weight hasn’t moved at all. Does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks, Lady caterpillar
  4. I had the sleeve 2010 and then I asked could I have the bypass 2021 a long road but worth it in the end but I did get told I wouldn't lose as much because of the previous surgery they said I'd only lose 3 stone and I'm now here 112 pounds lighter got saggy skin but no one sees it good luck

    Food question

It was the first day of week 4 for me. I ordered some of the Quest chips a few days ago and they came yesterday. The Cheddar and Sour Cream flavored protein chips were pretty good. You can say they are expensive for a 1.1 oz bag, of chips, but good for the reason I got them for. And I wasn't planning to eat them every day.

    It's Skinny Pasta

I used to eat lots of these products before surgery, especially the noodle and rice types. They fill you up and have very few calories. I have some ready in stock for when I can eat more than my protein and vegetables. I also found some dried protein pasta this week. Enjoy

    Food question

Still don’t do chips after 3 years but that’s a personal choice. I do have the occasional baked fava beans or chick peas as a snack which I discovered last year (once a month maybe). I don’t rally fry anything but sometimes use a little oil depending on what I’m cooking. (I love crumbed lamb cutlets & you need a little oil to get a crunchy crumb. Doesn’t work at all in an air fryer. But actually bake them now cause the fat in the lamb is enough to crisp the crumb.) I usually just use a spray olive oil &/or a non stick pan. As for butter I put a little on my green vegetables (microwave them in butter & water) & that’s it. I only just finished a 500g tub of butter I started using at the end of November last year. But again these are choices I’ve made.
  8. This is great. It reminded me of my then 3 yr old nephew wanting to take me for a drive in his little child’s gator. Could easily fit my bottom in the seat. It was pretty freaky - never would have imagined being able to fit in a little child’s seat. Of course I couldn’t get my legs in so I dangled them over the front of the gator’s bonnet. Amusingly, he refused to drive me cause it wasn’t safe.

    September surgery buddies!!

I have the worst time with exercise at all! My daughter and I started out well enough for us at walking 10 min, 3 times a week. But then we had a trip and a wedding and we haven't exercised at all. I know I need exercise, I just have a bad time with motivation and sticking to it. I want to get up in the morning and just do it and get it over with, but since its not a habit yet I haven't succeeded. This month things have to change though, surgery is coming up and I need good habits. I love that you have a reasonable goal and flexibility to your schedule so that you are kind to yourself. I am not going to sub any meals with protien drinks until I have to but I think thats a great idea. I am trying to eat less fat and I'm so proud of myself because I have been able to stop drinking soda completely. My whole life I have been addicted to soda and hated water but now I don't buy any and I don't miss it either. I've noticed I have more energy and I'm less hungry after switching to water too. I think my biggest food challenge is the not drinking with meals. I have tried it and I seem to just get thirstier and thirstier. I think its just a mental thing but its a hard one for me. Even eating out, how do you even get a drink at all? Usually its 30 min for us once the meal has arrived and then get the bill and leave. Maybe I can get a water to go? I don't know lol.

    September surgery buddies!!

I haven't really had any bone broth in a while, so can't recommend them at this point. If I try a few, I'll be sure to let folks know if some of the are particularly good (or bad!). My goals are probably a little unique to me, but the thing I've learned about being on the diet and exercise yo-yo too many times than I can count, is that I do better if I start SLOOOOOW. For example, right now, my goal this week for exercise is just to ride my recumbent bike at least 3 times a week for 8 minutes each time. Every week between now and my surgery, I plan to up the number of minutes by two. Thus next week, the goal will be 10 minutes, 3 times a week. It's possible that even going up by 2 minutes a week is too aggressive, so if it doesn't happen, I won't sweat it. The reason I picked that amount was that I was hoping to be around 20 minutes a day 3 times a week by the time I hit my surgery week. I think if I get there, I'll feel better and recover faster. I'm sure to some that seems pitiful, but it's what I think I can do. It would do me no good to be too aggressive and then hurt myself. For what it's worth, I don't plan to do any strength training until about 4 months post surgery. I know that probably seems like a long time to some, but I didn't get so badly out of shape overnight. I have to keep reminding myself to be careful and not overdo things. Diet-wise, I have 2 goals right now: Start talking smaller bites and replace 1 meal per day with a protein shake. That's really it. I'm lucky I suppose in that I don't eat a lot of junk food, so I don't have to overcome that issue too. Over time, I really need to start working on the whole complete chewing thing (which is a HUGE problem for me), but I realized I have to start with smaller bites. Until that's a habit, I won't add complete chewing to the regimen.
  11. I’ve always had a big butt, and it used to embarrass me. Dating changed things so by the time I was 20 I loved my big butt! I have used it for years to hold doors open. Last week doors literally slammed hard on my ankles and calves. BB is slipping :0

    Food question

I started cooking with this type of butter and olive oil probably 4 weeks after surgery. as for chips. I had some protein style chips/puffs a month or so after surgery. I am currently almost 4 months post surgery and i have had zero issues with any foods i have eaten.

    September surgery buddies!!

Have you tried any of the bone broth? I have ordered fire and kettle in chicken and beef flavor but I haven't tried it yet. It was recomended to me by my dietition. If you are comfortable sharing I would love to hear what types of weekly goals you set yourself. I think it would make the time go faster if I broke it up into weeks so I think that you have a wonderful idea there. Your surgery is just 1 day after mine it seems, so we have the same amount of time to fill The bottles are a great idea. I did buy some ice cube trays because I didn't actually have any and I read that they hold about 2 oz each cube. Just in hopes of not wasting too much food after the surgery. I am glad to hear chobani is good. I haven't tried it yet but it was the only sugar free brand I saw available. With this heat, popsicles will be a nice treat

    July 2022 peeps!

Sounds like you are doing great. Funny you mentioned your trip. I was just asking about eating on a 1,000 mile trip (Louisiana to Iowa) and got some good tips. In case you hadn't seen it, Eating/Drinking on a Road Trip: 4-5 Weeks Post-Op. Enjoy your trip!

    One Week Until Surgery

Yes! I've had so many feelings dredged up this last week. Good luck and I'll be sending you good thoughts on 8/8!

    WLS and wisdom teeth surgery

I would play it safe and space them 6 weeks apart since both involve Anesthesia and you really don't want to play around with it. Talk to both providers and see what they say.
  17. I am in my 8th week and Tuna Salad is a lifesaver. Easy to make, full of protein and has flavor! Also very easy to just put extra mayo to make it more... liquidy? I would try the new stuff before you leave that way you know what you can tolerate. At Taco Bell I get a chicken soft Taco with Pico and no Lettuce and don't eat the tortilla. It's filling, has FLAVOR (I've missed flavor! ) and good source of protein. When I went on a road trip I survived on scrambled eggs and protein Shakes. I would definitely try the new things before you leave.
  18. So pre-surgery I was wearing 3-4XL T- shirts at work. Part of pre-planning this year we were given 2 school T-shirts and I got AND FIT the XL! Total shocker-i knew when I picked XL I might still have some weight to lose but nope! It fit nicely! I'm 8 1/2 weeks out and ounces away from 60lbs and I fit an XL!!! So tickled!
  19. Taco bell black beans (50 cal) for a side are my favorite. Tony but filling. I put hot sauce on it. Chipotle has some really good choices too. Wendy's has a nice black bean chili. I use a hot logic mini oven (there is one for the car) that you can either keep warm or actually cook things on the road. It will keep it warm for 12 hours if you can't eat all of it. Great for leftovers and cooking healthier options for our every 3 hr small meals. For example, can put raw salmon in there with herbs and it'll cook it in the car.

    July 2022 peeps!

I had my two week Post Op appointment this morning. I am right where I am supposed to be. I've lost 18 lbs since Pre-Op diet, wounds are healing nicely and I have advanced to pureed food! I put Amy's Organic Black Bean and Vegetable soup in a Magic Blender and had about 1/3 of it. Delicious after the liquid diet. My husband and I are leaving first thing in the morning to drive from CA to NY (a family cottage)...three days. We used to stop at fast food places but now it will be rest stops since I am bringing my own food...greek yogurt, cottage cheese, shakes and the leftover bean soup. Even my husband is bringing his own food. Since I have not told anyone about my surgery, it was my plan to have the surgery, get clearance to go to NY and by the time I return I will be on regular food (just smaller portions). It will be easier in those social situations back in CA. I am glad everyone is doing well.

    July 2022 peeps!

I’m having my One week post op visit today. Everything has been going great I only have a strange feeling when swallowing and it is tough to get all the fluids in I’m only getting 40-50oz a day and I get tired easily but I get to go to full liquids today. I’m down 60lbs since my first visit in April 5 and 11 of those pounds have been since surgery.

    Nutritionalist consult

My 2 week pre-op diet was 3-4 shakes a day with no more than 200 calories each and minimum 15g of protein, celery and cucumbers, and 1-2 cups of chicken or beef broth a day. Absolutely NO popsicles or sugar free jello. I would constantly be shaving celery with a peeler into “noodles” and then adding it to the broth for a soup of sorts. AND I was super lucky enough to do it twice in an 8 month period. 😂 (needed a hernia repair surgery that was coupled with a VSG to RNY revision to reduce chances of future hernias.)

Hi everyone! I started my preop liquid diet today. I have a two week one. I’m hoping I make it… we are on vacation with friends this week so it’s hard.

    Monthly weigh in and measurements

Looks like you have been doing well!! Thats Awesome..... As for myself I still have the mobility issue because I have no ACL in my knee and need a knee replacement done. I had a 5 week stall!!! That sucked big time and talk about being discouraged oh my!! That being said I did start losing again but only a few pounds here and there. I think on an average I may lose 2-3 lbs per week and about 10-12 lbs per month. I go for a weigh in tomorrow. I think I lost about 11 lbs since last month. Not the big lbs that alot of ppl seem to drop but Ill take what I get I guess. Its better than gaining LOL. Keep up the good work and I am sure you will hit your goal in no time!!!

    September surgery buddies!!

I just started ordering things to get ready and to kind of spread out the purchases since I still have a month before I start the liquid diet. Anyone else buying stuff yet and what are you getting? I bought myself a pill dispenser that has up to 4 options daily since I'll be taking the ProCare chewables for one month and then the capsules. I have to have 2 calcium chews a day with that and my thyroid meds too. I bought only a month worth of the chewables and a 3 month supply of the capsules. I tried 2 different protien drinks and I like the premier over the ensure that the Drs office gave me. So I have a few flavors of that. I don't want to drink them before I need them but I hope I like them when I do have to drink them. Its weird to me that jello, pudding and yogurt are allowed on a liquid diet, but I'm not going to argue since I think I'll probably appreciate the thickness over broth. I'm a planner as you can tell and I just want to be prepared but not too much or it might even spoil beforeI get to use it. Anything else you guys are doing to get ready?
