  1. Lost&found, we have the same Dr. I'm at 10 weeks. I don't know how many times I've wanted to cry because the "stuck" feeling hurts. Meats are the worst culprit. and sometimes cheese. I was looking for an answer about how long it will be that way. sounds like a long time so I'd better get used to it. Maybe its a good thing so I will learn to keep honest about the quantity I eat and the need to stay careful.

    June 2019 challenge

I've been traveling for work so just hoping in now. I was sleeved on 2/7/19 My goals for this month are -Lose 10 pounds (that seems to be what I average in a month) -Do 3 sessions of Bridge 2 10K each week. I just started yesterday with my first session. I'm training to run in a DC Comics 10K run this fall. Good luck everyone with your June goals!

MINI GASTRIC BYPASS AND ACID REFLUX

I had severe acid reflux before I had my mini. I had a hiatal hernia too. That was fixed and my mini was done last year. I have since lost 120 lbs. I don't have any acid reflux, none at all. I may have had one small episode of bile reflux last fall but I'm not sure. It didn't last but 10 minutes and went away with a few swigs of mylanta. I don't take any medication for reflux but I'm prepared to take Nexium if need be. They sell it pretty cheap at Costco and I have a friend who gets bile reflux after she had her gallbladder out. She said Nexium works very well. As for eating, I can eat anything. I don't dump, I don't crush pills. I just eat very small amounts of food 5 or 6 times a day and stay on my healthy diet. I had a small piece of cake at a wedding and a cadbury egg at Easter but I have lost my sweet tooth so I don't crave that stuff anymore. It was really satisfying to allow myself a treat and find that I didn't want to finish it all. I just was not interested. I really love meat, veggies and fruit. I drink a protein shake every morning. I use a straw daily. I take my chewable vitamins and so far I have no complains. This was the best decision I ever made. My philosophy is that nothing is perfect. I can either deal with the health issues that come with being obese along with how uncomfortable I was and that I hated my appearance OR I can deal with the very few health issues that might come with WLS. So far, it is one episode of something (maybe bile reflux) and a lot of extra skin. I"m good with that trade off. I hope that helps!

  6. In the year leading up to my surgery in May 2018 I was diagnosed with COPD by a pulmonologist based on pulmonary function testing. I have always had some seasonal asthma but this was much worse. I could not take a shower or walk across the street without wheezing/shortness of breath. I was placed on 3 daily medications (Breo, Spiriva and Singulair) and still had major issues. I was also treated by a spine physiologist for severe back pain...it was to the point that I actually let this doctor inject my spine on both sides due to the severe pain that occurred anytime I was upright for more than a few minutes. I had to drag a bar stool into the kitchen to cook a meal and my husband was looking into a walker with a seat for me since I could not go anywhere due to the pain. I can honestly say that I thought I would be dead in a year... Fast forward to today, one year after surgery. I am still working toward my goal but my health and life have improved greatly. I am off ALL COPD/asthma medications with symptoms so rare that I have used my inhaler about 3 or 4 times in the last year. I can do anything I want with no breathing issues. My pulmonologist is AMAZED and he is referring other patients to bariatrics as appropriate. I can do a brisk, 2 1/2 mile walk outdoors with no issues. My back does not hurt AT ALL even if I am up and walking all day. I can easily get on and off the motorcycle that I so enjoy riding with my husband. I have not taken so much as a tylenol in a year since surgery. I am currently 61 years old with no health issues, no medication other than OTC allergy meds and my MV and calcium supplements and I feel 10 years younger than I did a year ago. As a nurse practitioner, I would not have believed any of this if I had not experienced it myself. Having this surgery is the best thing that I have ever done for myself.

    June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!

After a very late approval by insurance for my previous date, my surgery is re- scheduled for 6/12/19. Any surgery twins out there??
  9. My weird and probably funny one. To sit down in narrow or plastic chairs, to stand up without help and not to make that embarrassing Sucky noise when I get up. To not have someone ask if they can show their sl7des on my rump because it is so wide. Not wide,no more, and it won't ever be again . A lover would be able,to hold me close with just his 2,hands, not have to get a forklift or find a 10 bushel basket to hold my rump up. Oh I am getting sassy along with sweet disposition, it's sad guys are starting notice me now, the same ones that wouldn't give me the time of day 100 plus pounds ago. And the ones who ignored ME in the past, not too sure I need them now. I may forgive them but my ❤will never never forget!

New stabbing pains 11 days out

Same here , I was feeling great until Day 10. My pain is the same near my belly button but no where near the incisions. I was told the same thing by the dr muscle pain. The heating pad and Tylenol is helping a lot.
  11. I’m 10 years out from having a gastric sleeve and I’m close to my pre-op weight. I am so frustrated and disappointed with myself. I guess I stretched my stomach out. Is there anyone out there with this problem ?

    June 2019 challenge

I forgot to say my surgery was 2-25-19. I had the sleeve and have lost 60 pounds. My starting weight this month is 278 and my goal is to lose 8 pounds. I'm sidelined on exercise due to a small crack in my heel. Hopefully I will be able to walk tomorrow. love💕 all my surgery siblings!
  13. Hi, I am set to have sleeve surgery 7/8/19. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea through the pre testing. It is moderate I believe. I am told the surgeon will not do surgery unless you comply with the cpap for a month prior to surgery. I have psoriatic arthritis and fibromyalgia so when I put the nose pillows on they irritate me as well as the face straps, I also move a lot with the arthritis pains and I am finding it near impossible to wear it. When I do manage to sleep with it on I wake up an hour later feeling like I am drowning or something. I don’t want to miss out on surgery but I cannot do this. I have a message for surgeon to call me but the assistant on the phone was pretty rude about compliance. Do you know of alternatives or if I can switch to a different surgeon and not lose my 2 months into this program? Feeling stuck. I am 5’3 and 201 at 53 years old. I need this for my autoimmune issues and hate to lose it.
  14. Hello all...i am feeling better these days .Down 42 lbs since surgery on 3/18/19. I had some stomach swelling on the right side of my stomach along the front that should have gone down after surgery but now since im slimming down the bulge is more pronounced. It doesn't hurt just looks like a large fatty know. I know this was the side where they cut through the muscle but i thought it would be healing more by now. When i pinch it or push on it it just feels like a large amount of subcutaneous fat that has collected in this one spot. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what did you do shrink this area?
  15. I had surgery January 9th, 2019 and to date have lost a total of 138.4 lbs. It's really been an amazing transformation for me both physically and mentally. In hindsight, there have been no real negatives post-surgery, except for my most recent issue. I'm almost 6 months post-surgery, and I'm still having a really hard time eating enough food. Every time I eat, I have this really bad 'stuck' feeling, which I know can happen. I've slowed down my consumption, I don't drink liquids, etc...Basically, I'm doing everything I should be doing, but I quickly get full and/or nauseous and feel that way for about an hour after I eat. I've heard of some people being able to eat almost as much as they did pre-surgery and I'm just wondering what everyone's experience on the time frame of that. I rarely have an appetite and find myself often having to eat when I'm not hungry. Obviously, I know we're all going to have different experiences, but I'm wondering if there's anyone else who had a rough time with eating/feeling nauseous and when/if it got better?

    June 2019 challenge

My ideal day. (It’s sunny and 75) I have many scenarios based on weather lol. Wake up at 8:30 after a great nights sleep. Have a hot shower followed by a big iced coffee with sugar free vanilla creamer. Mid morning go for a walk at the riverfront and enjoy the scenery followed by lunch with friends or family at my local taqueria. Late afternoon hit a few stores and find the perfect outfit on sale. Relaxed dinner of grilled shrimp with a crisp salad (that I did not cook) with my husband, followed by sitting and chatting around the fire pit. Go to bed before 10 and much to my surprise find a romantic comedy I’ve never seen and thoroughly enjoy. Zzz And scene!

    June 2019 challenge

Day 3 - I completed 10 push-ups. Seems like a treat after last month! I started thinking about what my ideal day would be like last night....I think it would be one like Memorial Day...perfect weather around 70 degrees, I'd be outside with my dogs and mucking about in the garden, it would be wonderful to include a giggle fit or two with one or more friends and/or family. It would be a quiet peaceful day where one could just enjoy bees humming and birds chirping. But really, I think I have more than one version of an ideal day. I also enjoy days where I take the dogs for long walks off leash so they can run and swim. Most of my ideal days seem to have something to do with being outside. PS. @ Green Tealeal...I did see two whales on Saturday but didn't get any pictures.
  18. This makes 4 servings Golden Chocolate Chia Pudding (matcha is optional). Warm the cashew or almond milk up. Stir in cocoa, turmeric, and cinnamon until it dissolves. Simmer for about 5 minutes to cook the turmeric powder. Remove from heat and let it chill or come to room temp. Add other ingredients and stir every 5-10 minutes until chia seeds fully expand. Sweeten with preferred sweetener. I am using Monk Fruit liquid drops for this one. Divide into 4 containers. Chill well. Matcha Lemon Chia Pudding (Makes 3 servings) walnuts and blueberries are optional.

    The last 20lbs

the last 20 lbs takes forever!! Also when I gain weight now (fortunately I catch it before it gets out of control), it also takes forever to take it off. I think it took two months to lose the 5 lb gain I had over the holidays. I can understand now why skinny people complain about losing 5 or 10 lbs (I used to think they were nuts!!)

    Gastric Bypass after Lap Band

Hi, I had my lap band placed in 2006 and I did great I went from 245 lbs to 134 lbs with eating right and lots of exercise. During that time I went through a divorce and moved back to California from Arizona, I enrolled back into College so that I could earn my degree in nursing. So with that said I stayed very busy met my new husband and started to put weight slowly back on, not much but enough to feel it. I joined the gym in January 2018 and dropped weight, toned up and put on muscle. I started to experience severe GERD to the point of vomiting while sleeping! I had not kept up with my lap band maintenance or adjustments in about 7-8 years. I decided it was time to consider removing the band after 3 trips to the ER within 3 months. I met a wonderful Bariatric doctor who suggested I consider and research a revision from the band to the gastric sleeve, now this was a surprise to me as I am 5'5 142 lbs and a size 2. He explained everything thoroughly, detailed and why medically this would be a great option, he did also give me the option of simply removing the band as he felt the issues I was having was that after 13 years my body was "rejecting the foreign object" thus the lap band plus I also had a large hard bump where the port was located due to my slimmer torso. After researching the pros and cons I decided to go for the revision, which was done 5/20/19, my doctor did the removal of the band and sleeve all in one procedure (3.5 hours) I felt this would be best as I did NOT want to have to go under twice. I had NO issue with my insurance due to the reason and medical documentation to support the revision. So far so good, I will say the one thing my doctor told me (which I have learned)is forget everything you learned and lived with with your Band the sleeve is a whole new ball game! I was only on liquids for 2 days post op, protein shakes started on day 2 as well with jello and broth, 10 days post op I started on eggs, beans, yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna salad and have had no issue. I drink a lot of water up to 1 gallon a day and that I must say has changed as I now have to sip (not chug) throughout the day. Lots of sugar free popsicles, watermelon and sugar free jello have been my best friends when I feel I need to hydrate. I've also started to go back to the gym as of day 11 post op (once I got my doctors ok) NO weights, midline or core workouts only treadmill, stair climber and spin class (modified) for an hour each day and let me tell you this has helped tremendously with the swelling and gas! My advice would be to get another medical opinion and get and stay as active as possible. It's a lifestyle change and a daily battle (for me). Hope this help :)
  21. I did do a search but didn't find anything specifically related so......... Just about to hit 10 months and I'm having serious hip issues. Since the weight loss they've been bothering me, kind of feel like they are on the verge of dislocating but not sure as it's a new feeling. It's happened in both hips but no more than an aching pain. This past Friday when I was waking up I noticed the familiar feeling again in my left hip. When I got out of bed it was really painful to put weight on it. I had to walk on my toes on that leg and limp to keep weight off of it. When I sat it was fine but standing or walking on it was really hard. I was outside doing some work and sat on a low tool box and when I went to walk it felt better but didn't last long. Onto Saturday, the same thing but now it would come and almost go. I was standing in the kitchen making breakfast and just slightly moving the leg It kind of felt like it fell out of the socket and there was intense pain. As I moved my leg around, certain positions would relieve the pain but slightly moving it in a different way would make the pain worse. Today it was much better but out of nowhere I would move my leg and the pain would kick in. I don't know what makes it happen or go away but it sucks. I'm going to call my PCP tomorrow and ask about it but wanted to reach out and see if anyone has experienced anything like this. Also today I noticed the same pain but nowhere near as intense in my right hip. Thanks in advance for an insight!!! J
  22. Ok...this took ALOT for me to do. Getting the courage to put alll of me on here like this. It’s been 5 wks since I was sleeved. I’ve been putting everything I have into this but there have been times I’ve wondered if this would really work. I’ve been trying to stay off the scale but that’s a challenge, I workout like crazy everyday and I count every calorie that goes in my mouth. I haven’t been able to really “see” the difference personally even though I knew my clothes fit better and I felt better physically, but after I did this collage today it truly made me see this IS working. I still have a long ways to go but I’ll take it after 5 weeks post op! All I have to say is take pictures!!!!! I felt sick taking the first one before surgery because I hated looking at myself but I am so great full I did now. Document this journey! Sleeved 4/25/19 HW-238 SW-233 CW-203 GW-140

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

And @Lifeafter40, my Bariatric Sibling, I wish for you the best of everything and the smoothest surgery ever. As I look back, I do wish.I had surgery before both my knees were replaced , but at that point not everything was in place, and honestly I thought I was hopeless, I would die obese, because I had achieved what I thought an insurmountable age. But my surgeon believed in ME, I believed in ME, I took my chances, and here I am , 9 months on Wednesday, 73 years of age, ready to travel into Onederland, having lost,Are we ready?. 116 pounds since surgery. This is the goal my surgeon and his top N.P. said I had the best chance of achieving, but I still want to try for 175, and I always have said a 15 Junior. Will I make it? I believe so, it was plotted I would achieve there at 18 months instead of the usual 12 month/1 year. I trust my next blood levels will show a correct curve, had an Iron INFUSION in March for anemia which was partially due to TPN for three months, oh it kept me alive, yes it did but the calorie level slowed my weight loss way down, the month post- removal I lost 30 pounds,Ka-thunk. So my continued weight loss was slightly deferred, right NOW at a faster rate than what logic would say. I am still A WORK IN PROGRESS, where it will all end IDK but I am commited to it all . I believe you June 2019 people may even surpass me, the sky is your limit if you stay the course! Hugs and 💕from your Frustr8!!!
  25. Had reflux before I was sleeved 10/17, it improved but got worse about month 9, pcp put me on Zantac on top of my max dose of protonix. Finally talked to my surgeon and when I told him that I was vomiting in myself and that I take ambien and high dose of seroquel to sleep and that I'm not waking up when it happens he said the situation was dire and we needed to convert to bypass immediately. I had an EDG done a week later showing severe inflammation, a restriction where the esophagus and pouch meet, info was submitted to insurance and I was on the table a week later. I am almost 12 weeks post op, and acid reflux free.
