Cleaning Frenzy~

Same here, I am starting to clean the house, clean the fridge, clean the pantry and getting rid of things I don't want to be eating later. My grocery lists are done (pre-op, than post-op week 1-2-3-4), and i'm preparing myself to get that phone call from my doc to start my per-op diet. I'm ready, can't wait!
2. I was allowed tea and coffee in a week or two after the operation and I've had no issues with either. I was a 2 or 3 cup a day person as well (in addition to the soda). I still have coffee every day (no soda) but its more like half the size of an espresso shot. I just don't feel like I need more. My energy levels are pretty good through the day so I don't need any "pick me ups".
3. It's okay...you will be fine. Every surgeon is different so did your surgeon give you a preop diet plan? How long are you on pre-op diet for? I was on liquid protien for 2 weeks - what a nightmare, but I did it since I wanted a sleeve more than I wanted to eat whatever I wanted. Recommend calling surgeons office to get a plan or search through the pre-op diet section here or go to http://www.cornellwe...gastrectomy.pdf Diet is for sleevers, not just any WLS patient. Good luck you are going to love your sleeve.

Tried To Go Back To Work

Well went back 1 day this week and called out yesterday and today. The pain is so bad it's going into my back. I think my muscle layer is pulling where my trocar sites are. Saw the nut again and he says I am doing ok but might have lactose issues

Port Placement

No you can't feel the band. My port is on the right and yes I can feel it but that's cuz I'm three weeks post op and its still a lil swollen.

Port Placement

Just an FYI, for the first 2 weeks or so after the surgery, you will find sleeping on your back to be the most comfortable. I am a side/stomach sleeper and I couldn't sleep either way until about 2 weeks post-op. The soreness from the surgery and the 'pulling' feeling hurt and made is difficult to sleep any other way than my back. Today I can sleep on my stomach and side no problem; but as mentioned above, when I lean back, lean over something, or am laying on a hard surface I can feel my port.

Surgery Date SET!

I went into my two week pre-op weighing 311.4 and lost down to 297.8 by the day of surgery. I was very excited for my new journey, but never expected to feel as bad as I did post-op. Sept 8th 2014 was the day! I felt terrible once awake. Horrible nausea that nothing would get rid of, vomiting, chest pain, and dizziness... I hope you all have a better time with this. My chest hurt so bad they called in the cardiologists to run tests! I ended up with round the clock labs being drawn, anti-nausea meds and pain meds being given like clockwork! Nothing seemed to help the chest pain, shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting, stomach spasms, gas etc! I couldn't urinate, couldn't pass gas, nor would my bowels move. I spent 48hrs in tears due to the overwhelming pain. I couldn't even keep down my ice chips on day two! By the 3rd day I started to feel a little better. The first 2 were the worst! The gas that they fill your abdominal cavity up with was a ruthless butch! The gas can't escape, so it just sits there and causes horrible, unimaginable pain. They finally gave me some morphine and Ativan to knock me out, and it was oh so sweet relief too! I was finally able to fall asleep, and ignore the pain even if it was only for a minute or two. On the third day the dizziness was very present, but everything else was clearing up. I actually felt like getting up, showering, and walking the halls by day 3. I wasn't sure how'd I'd feel once they removed the pain pump from my abdomen, but I found out by the end of day 3. Once they removed nearly 12 inches of pump cord from inside my chest cavity I began to feel the numbing sensation wear off. It became all too real that someone took a blade and sliced me 7 times with it. Not just scratching the surface but rearranging my internal organs. By discharge time on day 3 I finally was able to pass gas! I was so bloated, and fluid-logged due to the non-stop IV fluids, medications, antibiotics, etc! I walked out of the hospital weighing 305; I went in at 297.8! I didn't have a bowel movement until day 4, with the aid of a little laxative. I didn't want to risk C.Diff.! Today is day 5 post-op and I've finally gotten the hospital water weight off! This morning I hit 296.0 on the scale! I'm still very sore, but I couldn't be happier about my new life that is now within reach!

Surgery Date SET!

Good luck! My surgery date is Sept 10th for the sleeve. I started the 3 week preop diet last Wed. I'm still am nervous and excited!
11. Yesterday was my first day back, 6 hr shift. After 1 1/2 hours I was exhausted and sore. Thank goodness the rest of the night was slow. I woke up exhausted and in pain. I was hoping at 3 weeks out I would be okay.
12. I was sleeved 1/27. I have been exercising since day 3....started out with short, slow walks and just gradually added activity. I bought and am using a fibit Force (LOVE IT) and I have my first session with a personal trainer tomorrow after work. I am working out every day for about 60 mins-- 2 days weights, 2 days 90 min of hot yoga, 3 days 60 min or more of cardio. I have lost 21 pounds in 4 weeks. i have hope for the first time in a long time I might get back to the fit person I was about 6 years ago before I stopped exercising and ate my way up to 300 pounds. I am feeling really good about myself-- I LOVE exercise and I am excited to do more things (like kickboxing and racketball) as I lose more and gain mobility/reduce risk of injury!! I AM EXCITED!!!

Friday Morning Weigh In: July 31

I haven't posted in a long time in this group. I was 211.7 this morning. Same as last week.
14. I just need to get this off of my chest. I hate working with most other women. All the drama, the back stabbing, the competition with clothes, jewelry so on. I work in a small lab with one other woman who I get along with quite well. We have similar likes and dislikes and are the same age. Recently a job was posted in our area that sounded a lot like my job. I inquired about the job and got no response for over two weeks. Finally, when I did get an interview for my own job it appeared it was only a formality. The new HR woman who does not like me for who knows what reason had already hand selected a new young girl with no experience to take the job. Naturally, I protesed loudly. I wound up with the job, raise, and this new girl to help me. This sounds good, but the girl is not only a tattle tail, she is a shark in the Water. She has already started telling stories about me to other people and has tried to get a married engineer she has been sleeping with fired. I do not carry much weight in our company and nepotism and cronyism is a real problem. I normally like to fly under the radar, but feel I wiil need to keep my eyes and ears on this girl at all times. I just do not have time for all of this crap in my life. I simply want to do my job to the best of my ability and go home. I hate playing games and despise back stabbers. Any advice on how to handle this new very pretty very young and very threating girl will be appreciated.
15. I was up to my normal speed walking almost as soon as I got out of the hospital, although I couldn't go as far and usually took a nap after each walk during the first two weeks. I walked a 5k (3.1 miles) reindeer run 3.5 weeks after surgery and finished in under an hour, which was about the same time I had done a 5k in September. (Surgery was in November). I didn't start running until after January 1 because the holidays got in my way, but I swam laps as soon as they cleared me for the pool at about 4 weeks. The big thing is to listen to your body. There was a run in mid February where my left side near my largest incision started hurting when I ran. (not bad just letting me know it was there) As long as I only walked it was fine, so I didn't run and finished my time walking instead. When I went back a few days later for my next run, it didn't bother me so I ran as planned. I don't know what might have happened if I kept pushing through the pain. Maybe nothing, but I wasn't willing to risk it. Good luck and be patient. pam
16. I could walk at a normal pace as soon as I went home. I walked 2 miles on Day 3 or 4, and felt great. Was cleared for all exercise at about 3.5 weeks. I had pretty much no pain after Day 4 or 5, just mainly stomach discomfort. I guess I had some tenderness at home, but it was pretty minimal. I did my first real workout with a trainer around Day 28, but I think I could have started jogging sooner, but my surgeon only cleared me for walking before then. 17. I tried my best to go for walks at the park a few days after getting home on 4/15 surgery date was 4/13. I could say I was walking 30 minutes 4 times a weeks. After my post up 2 week follow up I was approved to start doing exercise such as walking on a treadmill and elliptical. However, I've felt really lazy and tired a lot more than the first few days after surgery so haven't really done much exercise. At my last appt I was told I was slightly anemic. I'm worried that maybe i'm more anemic as I am having symptoms like pale skin, dizziness, and am so tired! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

April 8th! !!

It seems like I have been submerged in this process forever, but I FINALLY got my surgery date last evening!!! April 8th is D-day... or should I say B-day!!! I'm nervous but more Excited!!!!... I am not worried about my surgery. I am a registered nurse and have done time in the OR. In fact, I've seen my surgeon in action (though he wasn't putting in a band). Still, it is strange to think I'll be the one on the table! My nerves stem from a fear of failure. I have lost just over 20lbs so far and feel like I'm already on the road to the new me.... I just REALLY want this to work! Anyway, the 8th feels sooo ok far away, but I know that before I know it, it will be t he 1st and then my surgery will be a week away!

Newbie- 3 day post op gastric sleeve

Try drinking liquids that are room temperature if the cold bothers you. Post op for 4 weeks we stuck to broth, FF soup, yogurt, pureed foods, and shakes. At 4 weeks I tried a small piece of soft chicken, choked on it, and stayed on soft food another 2 weeks. Bad experience. Try a different brand of protein shake. My husband liked Bariatric Advantage (milky tasting) and I liked EAS powder from Walmart. The best advice we got from our surgeon was: Do not eat 3 meals a day. Do not eat if you are not hungry. Even today, 7 months post surgery, we eat only when hungry, and we don't have sit down dinners at any certain time.

Right after surgery especially, and still today, burping signalled we had eaten enough. Wonderful little reminder lol. Usually if you eat a small amount, you can walk away and be satisfied. Everyone is different with their weight loss, we have learned that well here. The soreness from the small incisions won't last long, we never needed any pain medicine after 24 hours in the hospital. Good luck!!!!
20. So I am 3 days out from my sleeve and have a few questions: Did anyone else have spasms after drinking liquids, especially cold liquids? The protein shakes that I loved before surgery are now repulsive. I tried yogurt this morning and did okay with it, what did everyone's immediate post op diet consist of? No one has told me how much I should be 'eating' at one time, does anyone know? How much weight did you lose your first few weeks post op? How long were you sore from your larger incision? I had 5 incisions, one of them larger which is the most tender.
21. I had VSG 3/25/19. I lost 15 pounds in first couple of weeks but not an ounce since. I am getting over 60g of protein, drinking my water and walking. Getting frustrated. Is this common?
22. pretty much everyone has their first stall within the first month after surgery. It's so common it has a name - the three week stall (although it's not always the third week). Search the three week stall - you'll find hundreds of posts about it. Just stick to your plan, and the weight loss will start up again.

Carb question?

I would say 30. When I was in the losing phase, I tried to keep mine at 30 . I didn't lose if I went too much above that. Everybody is different though! Now if I went on a long stall, I'd raise them up for a few days then drop them down drastically.
24. I'm 3 weeks out yesterday. Didn't weigh in decided to wait until my one month mark. But here is a pictorial of my achievement so far.

Oh boy restriction! Need some advice! :)

Cut the meat in small pieces. Like the size of a pencil eraser and chew, chew, chew! Stay away from slider foods such as chips cookies etc. The bread, pasta and rice a lot of banders have trouble with. I can eat bread but no longer like it. I can't eat rice unless it is just a little cooked in something. I can't sit down and eat lets say a bowl of rice. I can no longer do spagettii, but i can do wide noodles and maccaroni. I can't do the Ramon noodles. Every one's band is different. I used to be able to eat eggs till a few weeks ago. Now I can no longer do scrambled or omlets or fried. I can do boiled eggs fixed any ol way I want them. You will find out that our bands are like cats.....FINICKY! I hope this helps you some. Good luck with your journey. Please keep us posted.
