Need to lose 10-15 lbs in 7 days....HELP ME
LilMissDiva Irene replied to uromanager72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is this official knowledge? I mean, did your Surgeon tell you this personally? I'm just curious because this is not something I usually hear about unless its the Pre-Opt diet. If you really do need to lose this weight then my best suggestion would be to do as low of carbs as you can stand it. That really does seem to help folks lose high numbers, especially in the first two weeks. Try looking up Atkins or South Beach. Good luck!!! -

I am 1 week post op and I felt the exact same way...it's getting a bit better now. -
I am 4 weeks post op today and I am down 25 lbs!! I am so excited because it has been a tough and emotional road but at this moment it all seems worth it. I lost 13 lbs on my pre op diet and 12 lbs post op. I would like to encourage anyone that's feeling discouraged about this process and tell u that it really does work if u follow the program and listen to your dr's orders. I have a long ways to go but I'm at a good start! Thanks everyone for sharing your stories and advice on this forum. It has been so helpful in my journey!!

I got a letter in the mail from my doctor....it was regarding the blood work I had for my upcoming surgery June 19th. This is what the letter says... "Dear Breanne, I am writing in reference to recent laboratory tests. Your vitamin D was low and requires short term nutritional support with extra vitamin D. Enclosed please find a prescription for vit D (aka ergocalciferol); follow the label directions for use. It is important to have a repeat laboratory test on the vitamin D level 4 weeks after you start the supplement. I have enclosed a laboratory slip as a reminder to have this completed. If you have any questions please feel free to call me." I can't call because it's the weekend. Do you think this is the kind of thing that would postpone the surgery?? I'm not really sure how vitamin D could affect the surgery. Please tell me what you think! :blushing:

Have you heard of Glucosamine Condroitin? It definitely helps. You can even get it in a liquid form at CVS or Walmart. Take it regularly for a week and you will feel amazing. -
My Band Baby is here! Unassisted waterbirth!
mommakatx2 posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hi everyone, I haven't really kept up with posting on LBT, but I did a few times during my pregnancy so I thought I would come back and let everyone know that I delivered a healthy, NINE pound baby girl on August 28th! She was 2 weeks and 2 days late! We had a planned unassisted birth in our home, and everything went perfectly. I have the 4cc band and it's almost filled to capacity. I did not have an unfill during pregnancy and I gained 41lbs. So far I have lost 28lbs and I look forward to getting active again to help shed the rest and then some. I did not have any band-related problems EXCEPT for intense pain around the port site, especially late on in the pregnancy. I attribute this to the stretching and pulling of the growing belly and probably scar tissue around the site. All I know is it was super painful at times, though not all the time. I wanted to wish everyone good luck on their pregnancy/TTC journeys...this was #4 for us and I'm certain we're DONE, lol! -
Good evening everyone, I need to lose 12 lbs before my surgery can be done. Well, I've not been successful at losing weight in the past. I guess if I had been I wouldn't be getting the surgery!! LOL That said, I'm looking for any tips you may have for losing this 12 lbs so I will be able to proceed with the surgery. The other thing I was wondering is, I hear of people going on a liquid diet, before surgery, is that to lose the weight so the surgery can proceed, or is that because you need to clean out so to speak your insides? I guess in a nut shell what I'm curious about is, will I have to lose 12 lbs and then have a 2 week liquid diet as well?

First Day of Pre-Op Diet, help!
azarellanos replied to medic50's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been having a horrible time with my pre-op diet. I was really good the first week but this week is very very rough. What determines the length of the diet? (I know it is determined by the Dr) But I want to know WHY some drs give pts with a higher BMI than mine only 1 week. My BMI was 40 and I was in the middle of the 1 and 2 week diet so they told me 2 weeks. I am trying, but am very hungry and grouchy. I'm hoping this becomes much easier after the surgery and the hunger feeling goes away. -
5 Months Since Banded, Down 40 Lbs :-)
jen_1381 replied to Rebecca Cain Salpacka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much for this, Rebecca. I'm about 4 1/2 months out and haven't lost, or gained really, in 6+ weeks. It's been so frustrating and discouraging. I've tried everything I can think of with no avail, so I'm meeting with my surgeon today for another fill and get his advice. I'm down 52 lbs overall but after steadily losing for the first 3 months, I am so discouraged over the past 1 1/2 months! -

Hi all.. I thought I'd share a link to a video in my YouTube channel from 2 days post op. I've been recording my story for a couple of weeks on my channel (you can google "Trisha's Sleeve Story) to find me. I'm only 4 days post op, so I'll be adding videos as my story continues! http://youtu.be/5aHSJ2mj5I0

I am having the same issues. I am doing Weight Watchers and hate that each week they ask me what I'm doing wrong. Not comfortable telling them I'm eating the same as always so I don't loose too much. But I really would like to lose some since it's summer. I just don't want to get below the BMI threshold for surgery approval. Very frustrating. I'll be keeping an eye out to see what anyone else has experienced.

Banded yesterday, in pain
lucymae replied to BrooklynBandster's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
When I had my surgery on 2-18-08 I remember thinking "What have I done?" I was sore, did not sleep well and my port incision hurt. I just thought that I had made a big mistake. I now feel wonderful, I have lost 45 pounds and am sooooo glad I did this. Hang in there. The soreness will pass. Give yourself time. I was feeling so much better in a week except where my port was and that took about three weeks for me. I would do it again in a heartbeat and I never thought I would say that. Just rest and do what the doctor says to do. Good Luck!! -
Hi everyone, I am on a 1200 cal. a day pre-op diet. My surgery date is not set. I had a hard time with the diet for 4 days. On the 5th day I awoke with no hunger, no cravings. This is the easiest dieting I have ever done--which is kind of bizarre to me. I have read here about people being hungry after surgery. Can those who are having problems with being hungry after surgery please say if you went thru this pre-op period of not being hungry? I am preparing to be successful and dont want to be unrealistic in my expectations. One thing I have learned is that, for me, sugar plays a huge role in feelings of hunger. As I said, after day 4 on the diet I had no hunger. However, after a few weeks I baked and iced a cake. I kept sticking my fingers in the icing...and voila, the next morning I woke up hungry!!! It took another two days of strict diet to go back to not being hungry. Thank you for any insights you may have or anything you care to share! This site is such a gift to us all! hiddn

What exactly is allowed on liquid diet?
CurvasPeligrosas replied to iwannabealoser's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello~ I start my liquid diet on your surgery date. My surgery is on July 8 so I have to do 1 week liquid diet pre surgery. What I was told that I can drink is protein shakes, soups (just the liquid), juice, water, and broth. Good luck on your journey! -
hello.. I had the band in for about 6-7yrs was all good, then one day just stopped working , i started to regain and didnt matter what i did could not get the scales to move back down... I had my band removed 8 weeks ago. then exactly 2 weeks ago today I was sleeved.. i know its early days but so far I am sooo happy with it, down 7kg in 2 weeks .. pain wise i honestly thought the lapband in and out is more painful, but seriously not that bad,, the sleeve has given me no discomfort at all except obviously the first day but more in the wound site that the stomach it self.. was up and about the next day and still have no pain at all... but then i have a mind set that because i have chosen to do this to myself then I really have no right to complain about pain .. however i guess if I was really in sever pain then I would be crying like a baby lol.. for me it was easy and painless and best move I have done.. good luck with your surgery x

Hello All- I am four days before surgery and nervous. Nervous about changing my life and nervous about not having everything ready. So, to clear at least one things off my list - what did everyone wear during recovery week. My mom insists that I will want nightgowns, but I hate those- what did you wear? What is uncomfortable or hard to get into or out of? Thank you!!

No, I definitely can't drink like I used to drink and it has nothing to do with malabsorption. It's entirely to do with the length of time the alcohol is in my stomach before hitting my bloodstream. Much like sugar can dump post op if you consume too much for the body to process before it hits the intestine, the same can happen to alcohol. Body weight also has something to do with it, as I'm 100 pounds lighter now. The more sugary the drink, the faster the reaction. I seem to metabolize it much faster - I can get completely tipsy from less than 1/2 of one drink or a few sips of beer or wine but within an hour I'm fine again. I used to easily consume two or three mixed drinks and only feel a buzz. One night I drank a mixed drink rather quickly and could hardly walk when I went to stand up! I was never this much of a lightweight before. You'll see a mix of responses, OP. A lot of people report that they're lightweights post op, but some people handle the same quantities of alcohol post op as before. Be mindful of it and be careful at all times because where I would have been perfectly fine to drive somewhere after one glass of wine at dinner before, I could not possibly do it now. ~Cheri

HELP !!! I gained 3lbs.
piercedqt78 replied to Smoothgirl14's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are a few things to be addressed here 1) weight will bounce up and down a few pounds in a days time. I can weigh as much as 5 pounds more in the evening than I did that very same morning. 2) Every scale is different, even two medical scales that are calibrated the same with in a day or so one can be off by as much as 3 or 4 pounds. 3) THE FIRST 6 WEEKS ARE FOR HEALING....I don't think that can be stressed enough. About 50% of people gain before the first fill. After surgery you lost a good amount of weight and it's normal to gain some of it back when you start to resume normal foods. Also soft/mushie foods are usually high calorie or high fat. 4) if you are running 4x a week you are probably gain muscle and that weighs more than fat. Try measuring once a week instead of weighing. ~Mandy -
Can a dialyis patient get the band?
Crishell posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I havea good friend who is interested in lap band surgery. I have been telling her about my lap band journey. She recieves dialysis 2-3 times per week for kidney failure. She told me that her kidney doc said it was ok her to get banded as she needs to lose a certain amount of wait to get on the donor list for a kidney. This doc is just her kidney doc and I am not sure how much he knows about weight loss surgeries. She is on fluid restriction and I would think that the amount of fluids we are supposed to drink daily is way over her limit. Not to mention I am sure that she would have some dietary issues. Are any of you aware of any dialysis patients being banded?
