Do tired of vomiting
Frustr8 replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So the office staff hates you? Well wah wah on them! Don't they realize they upset,my little Moondoggie🐶, why should they be allowed to eat when everything you do comes right back barreling,up? I am peeved with them on your behalf. Now for an update on me. I went tomeet the 3 wise people at the OSU Bariatric center. First I met Valerie my nurse practitioner,a little difference in skin pigmentation but super smart, super efficient and very pleasant to talk to. Seemed like and/or accept everything on my medical history. Only jarri,g thing she asked. was " Am I Bipolar?" told her I was never diagnosed so I didn't think so, should have asked if Dr Kramer the staff psychologist thought I was. Then I met with the. dietician/nutritionist Roy, yeah a thin young handsome dude, he swiched me to prenatal vitamins for the iron , told me I basically was okay on my diet because he wanted me to,⬆my calorie count, didn't really give me a structuralized diet. Then I met with Kelly the exercise physiologist, she told me and gave me some sheets to follow. Well the next day I did 1 set of repetitions of the exercises and nearly lamed myself so I'm back to the gentle walking etc I was doing all along. Friday I finally heard from Jessica my case manager/facilitator. She had been out of town for a conference the 24 and25, so I didn't meet her then face-to-face. Then she was out until Thursday for a prolonged Memorial Day holiday. Finally talked for a brief time Thursday, find out my clearances for pulmonary and cardiology had gotten lost so I had to request they be defaced. Then there is v the matter of the EGD, I am running into a little trouble getting it refaxed, you see my gastroenterologist closed his local practice v down and, left town. I suspect I know where he relocated to but I'm not certain. Promised I would fax all the paperwork he gave me but if that isn't enough I'll have to go through my third EGD in 3 years. I will receive a letter on official stationary welcoming me to this next step of this process. Heard from another portion that my presurgical blood labs which they already went and did show I have a deficiency in Vitamins A and D, so I have to pick them up at Wal-Mart Monday. My landlord and I are not getting along for several reasons and I realized it may be possible to go into a house of my own . He refuses to make repairs, wishes $39.000 because of the amount of land. The house has v deteriated to equal condition of one offered locally for $15,000,the only thing mine has better is I still have working ceiling fixtures instead of wires hanging down. He has taken the majority of my rental monies and repaired his own home at the expense of Mine. So his Mon u we are in escrow at this point. I have an insurance settlement that might find a down payment and monthly morgage paymentscless than what I pay now. Just watch, settlement, threat of eviction , surgery and housing relocation will all fall in the same week or 10 days. What next? Oh I have a lump growing on the inner surface of my left arm right above the elbow. One doctor says it is a lipoma, a fatty tumor, maybe so but it is enlarging quickly. Almost the size of a wiggle or tennis ball cut in half. Hmmmm? And now. the only further problem is I need a 30 day stretch of C Pap usage electronically validated so no surgery until July 1st.😲 -
Do tired of vomiting
moondoggie1983 replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys. Sorry for the long gap. I ended up just going to the surgeons office and hour before they all go to lunch. I made a point of not leaving (and thus letting them get their food!) until I was seen. And seen I was! The surgeon was pissed because no one had sent along my messages of how poorly I was doing. The office staff was pissed because I called them out on their crap treatment of a patient. So the end result was that he put me back on liquids only until tonight or tomorrow, at which point I can start trying applesauce again. I’m also to drink regular Gatorade right now to make sure I’m getting calories. I’m getting in a small Optifast shake a day to get some protein, but if I overdo the powders I’ll throw up. So I’m basically getting about 20-30g of protein and then my Gatorade, some water and some teas. I didn’t get any nausea meds because the patch gives me hives. The protonix seems to finally be working and I’ve ditched the carafate because it was causing me to foam and slime. Long story short, I’ve switched everything around, gone back to liquids, am drinking some full sugar drinks to get calories (and they also give me little hunger spikes which is good!) and now have my surgeons personal email. And his office staff hates me but they can suck it. 😂 Have only thrown up 3-4 times in the last few days, and those were from drinking soup too fast (you get really hungry after starving for weeks and it’s a little hard to control when you can finally eat anything again). Or the surprise of a PB. And I’m taking 3 flintstones vitamins a day instead of my Bariatric chewies. Until I can get some serious food in, I’m avoiding them. Trying to keep things easy to process. My surgeon said to think of it like a twisted ankle. If it hurts to move or walk on it, would you keep aggravating it or give it rest and a break? Same idea with new little tummies. Thanks for all the advice and concern guys! You’re all wonderful people and hopefully good friends soon. You all touched me at a very low point in my life. Thank you for making a bad time so much better. -
1 week to surgery and I'm freaking out
Frustr8 replied to k_nephew's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ambivalence goes with PreSurgery. You've studied and studied and studied, but l8 me the voyagers and travelers of old, you are setting out into uncharted territory. You do have maps drawn by your predecessors on this trip, still you wonder, did they miss a bend in the road, a swamp or a bed of quicksand? What if my trip isn't like Susies, Bill, Sally or Bens? Will I still make it through? You have to have faith in what you have learned, your surgeon and most of all YOURSELF! I face this journey myself with the next m9nth or six weeks, and this brave old cowgirl will still have her qualms about whether the Bariatric Bronco is going to,pitch her off.Shoot I've only seen my surgeon Dr Needleman by picture, I'm still a little worried he won't want to,be my ringmaster in this rodeo. But as the line from my 60s song " I've never been this far before" so I gotta keep smiling to,keep from crying😛 -
Sleep question for post op.
Frustr8 replied to iPlay4keeps's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in what some doctors assess as the Golden Years of my Existence, I usually consider it Brass***, at any rate,we tend to sleep in 3-4 hour increments. The males in my generation have prostate disease, me,maybe lessened iurinary capacity, maybe streets or overflow in' contience. I often ask myself" Well I'm up anyway, is there anything I should do?"So I watch overnight TV, a vast wasteland if even there was, vacumn, dust or post on Bariatric PAL, I'M sure me friends in NZ and Australia think I never sleep. Answer I do sleep, just not very often or for very long at a time. Mayhaps when I have my surgery and the weight diminishes, I'll sleep longer periods of time.. Je ne sais! -

Atlantic Article about access to weight loss surgery
Sleeved36 replied to Creekimp13's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Insurance companies do the math. They are concerned with profits, not your health. If the insurance company pays for bariatric surgery In the long-term they are probably saving Medicare money, not themselves. Many insurance companies have found that bariatric surgery costs them money bc people lose weight and qualify for skin removal and other surgeries (hips/knees/hernias/cardiac). It is cheaper for insurance to pay for the CPAP and diabetes supplies for a few years, then pass the patient on to Medicare or another insurance company. There are a few physician's groups and patient advocate organizations working to change this, but it is a slow process. -
Worst comes to worst.....stop calling it a bariatric surgery and start calling it a hiatal hernia surgery. They don't need to know any other details.

Hey everyone! I decided to start a blog to chronicle the experiences of my gastric sleeve surgery being performed on June 4. I wanted to start it to create a resource for other college students to have some idea of what to expect, but I'd be glad if anyone who's interested would read (and maybe even follow) it. Please feel free to head on over and join me as I share my experiences with bariatric surgery at Sleeved in School! -M

I think this is not part, buy maybe the entire issue. Between bowel habits, sexual positions, underwear photos, etc. this board is both extremely intimate and yet anonymous at the same time. Sort of like a glory hole for bariatrics. I guess it's not odd that we have trouble establishing/maintaining boundaries. I'm not sure how many people even want the boundaries. They come here to discuss things they're not discussing with friends/co-workers. If you're asking a website full of anonymous strangers for support, you can't predit what you might get.

Tespo Bariatric Vitamins long term?
LindsayDenise posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Hey all, has anyone used the Tespo bariatric vitamins long term? Are you still using them? Has your doctor noticed you being low on any of your vitamins? I'm extremely interested in getting one of these and I know there's a few threads on it already but I'm concerned about how well they work LONG TERM...so I'd like the opinions of people who have used one for a while. Thanks! Also! Does anyone still have a discount code for one? Thanks again! lol. -

Little Green getting little(r)
Little Green replied to Little Green's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, today was supposed to be my post-op appointment but unfortunately my surgeon was called into an emergency surgery so I had to reschedule for next Friday. I went ahead with the diet progression, I haven't had any issues eating and the booklet says 2 weeks of liquid and then start puree, so... start, I did! My first meal was 2oz of the homemade refried beans plus a bit of guacamole and some salsa. It was delicious! I didn't have any trouble getting or keeping it down, but a few minutes after I finished I felt like I might have juuuuuuuust eaten too much. By like a teaspoon or something. I wasn't quite nauseated or sick, but I had some unpleasant squishing/squeezing going on. However, it passed fairly quickly. My second meal, which I just finished, was 2oz of roasted garlic hummus. MMMMMMMMM omg lol. Planning on oatmeal with PB & banana in the morning, and mashed potatoes with green beans later on in the day. It's so nice to eat! Man, my eyes were rolling back in my head eating that hummus just now! It's nice to get so much pleasure from healthy foods and I hope that continues! I also started driving today! YAY! I went to a friend's house for the evening and it was so great to be out on my own. I love my husband and we happily spend most of our time together, but I'm also very independent and as you may have read over the last few posts it was making me CRAZY not to drive and to be limited in where I could go. I felt so much better after driving! Today also marked the return of some belly pain. Thankfully not the awful deep kind, but the sharp fiery kind that's close to the surface. My husband and I came from home to stay with my Mom this weekend and I did most of the packing up and loading/unloading the car so I wonder if I just pushed it too far. I had a 10-lb lifting restriction for two weeks, but that's it. Still, it might have been too much. Hopefully I'll feel better in the morning! And, although I did not get an official reading from the surgeon's office, according to my home scale, I've lost 19 pounds in the two weeks since surgery. That makes 35 pounds since beginning my liquid diet on April 27! I'm sure like most bariatric patients I will hit a stall in the next couple of weeks as a result of returning to normal food (hey, glycogen stores!) but to avoid the insanity I plan to keep off the scale for the most part. I'm thinking every two weeks is a reasonable compromise between the part of me that doesn't give a crap about my weight as long as I get strong and healthy, and the part of me that wants to weigh obsessively all day long checking for the lowest number possible, lol. So hopefully that's a good balance! -
OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE
Rainbow_Warrior replied to RomAnca's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes ... 1. My bariatric surgeon will perform this as well. He will write up the claimable item numbers (codes) for the insurance company. 2. The hospital stay and the hospital staff assisting the surgeon are covered. 3. My out-of-pocket "gap fees" are to be just under $1400. -
Some surgeons do suggest a diet similar to ketogenic diet. Not all do. Some favor more balanced diets. What your diet looks like will depend on your weight, your input, your nutritionist and your doctor. Pretty much every post bariatric surgery diet includes 60+ grams of protein. Some diets allow a lot of carbs, others don't. I have noticed that the diets that do allow carbs favor complex low glycemic index carbs. Simple carbs like sugar and processed carbs get cut pretty universally.

It's just so hard. You're doing so well (ok, kinda, mostly) and BAM! Out of nowhere this nausea and I'm the beginning some vomiting show up right when you get to the point where life starts to be "normalish" like I could actually cut the chicken up I ate and have it with my family. out of the hospital i was in terrible pain for 3 almost 4 weeks, I get feeling better for a few days and then this happened. They said practically no one has much pain and rarely used their meds. Lies! And I'm sooo not a wimp! And now brushing this off without even seeing me or even the PA talking to me is infuriatin . I know TONS of us go through THIS, but idk give a gal some hope. Today was one of my first days I actually made my fluid goal EVER! AND still wanted to puke every sip. But @Matt Z I will write that down and talk to my surgeon. I know my PCP won't budge on things. I've been looking for a new one for awhile. When I told her I needed a referral for the bariatric clinic she point blank looked at me and said, "you KNOW, over 50% of bariatric patients just gain all the weight back again plus more." I'm trying to find a statistic to prove her wrong. If not, I WILL prove her wrong! I'm just so frustrated. I bet you my psych NP is more likely to prescribe that than anyone else, she will say it's for sleep. I see her in like 4 days

Not sure what you are looking for in terms of advice exactly. Post my sleeve, I pretty much didn’t eat and stuck with a the liquid diet followed by soft food for 3 months to help me detox my body and start a new relationship with food. For me that was the secret to the success of my surgery I feel. It’s been 5 years and whenever I stray I remember how I and my body felt after those 3 months and that always seems helps me go back on track. Took me 4 years to let go of the weight and 1 year to stabilIze and just had my plastics done recently. I would say please don’t jump into plastics, not only because it’s expensive but also because it’s way more painful than any bariatric surgery and the recovery process is seriously tough. Hope this helps

I need help getting a fill in and around Olympia WA. I was just informed that Kaiser (formally Group Health) will no longer support the Lap Band. So those who have a Lap Band installed by them - you are basically left out in the cold without any support. They will take out your fill - but not add any. If you want to have another procedure, you have to jump through all the hoops AGAIN. I had 1 cc removed when I had a stomach bug - thinking, no problem I'll get it put back in after I recover. Fast forward 6 very long months, my regular Dr. at Kaiser finally got a response from the Bariatric Center stating they no longer support the band. My band works great - no issues- I just need to have 1 cc put back in. Help....

Fibromyalgia and bariatric surgery
Frustr8 replied to teddynola's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wow I hadn't thought of This as a benefit. Bariatric surgery just keeps giving and giving. Good decision, for me, good decision for,my,life. -
I just had a couple questions because I recently was sleeved and two of my coworkers that had bariatric surgery at the same facility as me with the same insurance both got these outrageous bills for $35,000 like six months to a year after surgery. It's unclear what they were getting billed for but I just don't want 2 get one of these bills because my insurance says they cover bariatric surgery a hundred percent I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona it's a federal plan Sent from my SM-G920T1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Fibromyalgia and bariatric surgery
teddynola posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi everyone, my surgery is on Monday. I'm excited and nervous, nervous because I get terrible post anesthesia nausea. But, I am wondering if any of you have fibromyalgia and did the surgery have any effect on your symptoms. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -
I will try to make this short as possible. I had a Sleeve done Oct' 2015. During spring 2017 i started to consider cosmetic surgery everything changed with weight loss. Along the process the doctors ive gotten consultations with they told me my BMI was still too high. By the beginning of 2017 i had already hit a plateau so i started to do pouch tests, different diets, and add new tips to help me lose more weight. Someone along the way mentioned revision i had no idea what it was or heard of it. I did some research and contacted my original Surgeon from my sleeve i love him and his staff. fast forward here i am just completed my pre op exams and testings for a revision this month everything will be submitted to the insurance company . my goal id for 6 months post op my revision go for another consultation and have full body work done. among getting ready for my revision sleeve to bypass, ive still continued to research for surgery and post op care. Looking to have : 360 Lipo, BBL, Breast lift maybe w/ implants , TT, arm lift. Looking to have Surgery Fall 2019, internationally. it will be out of pocket 100%. Anyone have post op Bariatric tips to help transition into getting ready for cosmetics?

Thank you for your sincerity. The only reason I have not seen a therapist yet is due to not wanting to be put on medications for depression, insomnia, or anxiety especially. I had a little too much fun in college and since, take no medications except for Bariatric vitamins, and nothing else for quite some time. I know therapists do not prescribe, but I don’t want even the recommendation.

It's probably because you are 3 weeks out. I suggest adding flavor to your water (Mio, crystal light) if you don't like water. I also make sure to drink water first thing when I get up. I don't eat until my first bottle is empty. I also learned that different protein drinks are easier to drink and digest. I suggest for the first month at least to try a protein shake specifically designed for bariatric patients. I also use almond milk instead of cows milk because it seems to go down easier. The most important thing is to stay hydrated. Chicken broth, sugar free popsicles and caffeine free tea count towards your fluid intake. Good luck! It gets better.
