Some programs include all kinds of gloppy things like puddings and yogurts as a "full liquid" while others go by a more classic definition (such as you can drink it through a straw....but don't use a straw!) So, it's another area where one needs to defer to one's surgical team as to what they want. It's an area where things like that never came into question on my doc's program as it never had a liquid only stage.

Anyone not telling anyone about their surgery?

Here's a little follow up since my original post!! I am now almost 3 week post op! I feel fantastic! In my original post I was so nervous about my sons class trip to the zoo that was 2 weeks post op. Well I had no problem going on that trip last week. I had energy to keep up. I just started pureed that day so I packed extra water with me and kept sipping all day and a yogurt for lunch time. I took a few spoonfuls of yogurt and was fine. No one else thought anything of it. The following day I had plans with a friend for my son and I to come over for a pizza play date. We went and I just said i was on a special diet brought a yogurt with me and declines the wine for water due to my "diet". The first few days post op were tiring but after day 3 or 4 I was raring to go. For me meal times were a little tough bc I do have 3 small children to prepare meals for. Breakfast and lunch were no big deal. Dinner was hard to make and sit down with my bowl of broth but it was short lived and it gets easier each day. So far I'm very happy with my decision to get sleeved. As far as keeping the secret to yourself it can be done and I wouldn't worry about anyone else. I'm talking about dieting and exercise with friends so hopefully it just looks like that's where he weight loss came in to play. My advice is just to be confident and this is our story we don't have to live an open book for the world to know. Negative people will make comments whether they no or not so just be confident in yourself and don't let anyone else get in your head! Cheers to you all! Good luck on your journey!! ❤️❤️❤️ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Allow me to disagree. You can't expect somebody who's just had surgery to have 80-100gr a Protein daily. That's just not possible. I am three days out and my new stomac can't handle more than 3 table spoons of yogurt at a time if not less. We all do it at our own pase, as are all different. Weight loss is not a race and we all do it differently. My surgeon in fact dos expect it. He said there was no physical reason someone couldn't drink 3 premier Protein drinks in one day (33 oz of fluid/90 grams of protein) and expected us to do it. It can be done. It may take all day, but it can be done.I could not do it. Two was a struggle. I moved to EAS carb advantage at 17G protein/shake and could just get down two. It took me about a month and a half before I could do 3.

Wondering if you can have too much protein at once? I made my protein shake this morning and it had 49g of protein. I used unjury chocolate splendor fairlife 2% milk and oikos triple zero coffee yogurt.

Do you really think you'd be able to eat more than just one cookie now? Perhaps that is all your stomach could handle now. I totally get that you don't want to even go there because it was a trigger food for you. I was only 2-1/2 weeks out from my surgery when my sister had a 30th birthday party for my nephew. I brought my lunch bag with me so I could bring a greek yogurt, some applesauce, and a couple other options that I was okay to eat. There was some fabulous food there, but I had to sit and look at all of it while the rest of the party goers were eating. I did okay. Was I envious? Absolutely! But, I got through it because I knew what would happen if I ate even a small nibble. Do I think I'll never ever be able to "taste" some of the stuff that was there again? No. And that is what I tell myself. You cannot have that now, but perhaps somewhere down the line a little taste will be okay. I may not even like it anymore. My tastes have changed so much since surgery.

Letty's journey post-op
Rdsegobia replied to Rdsegobia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would like to start posting more on the food I eat now at 9 months out. This is what I had yesterday: 5:10am 1/2 banana and 1 tablespoon Peanut Butter 6:30am coffee with Splenda and fair life milk (this is the reason I couldn't keep dr Weiner diet) I really need my coffee and it needs to be with Splenda and milk. 9:00 3 egg whites with turkey sausage, veggies, and cheese 11:30am premier chocolate Protein shake and 1 cup of veggies 2:00pm coffee again and nuts 5:30pm 1 cup of fage Greek yogurt 0% with a crystal light packet. 7:00pm watermelon and some more nuts I haven't been tracking my food in my fitness pal! I guess I need to. My weight is still at 169-170. I bumped up my exercise a lot more this past week and have every intention on keeping up with exercise. What I found out that is much easier if I do the exercise in the morning - get it out if the way as early as possible . So far within the past 8 days I have done 4 boot camp classes and one Zumba and walked on the treadmill 2 times for 45min. I hope I start seeing the scale move, however I will be happy as long as I feel good and see that my clothes fit better! Hope everyone have a great day! -
Iipstick lady if you look you can see I can have Beans as well as banana. On the bigger list it says only half a banana. And for the record I only blended that once with my premier and yogurt. Because it made even more drink I had a little and sipped on it for lunch put the rest in the fridge the next day I threw it away it smelled horrible. But you can think whatever you want. In the end my success will tell my story. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

That's great that you're feeling better @@haleymarie You should definitely continue to push to get in your liquids and Protein every day. Try some different ways to get your protein in. There's some water-based Protein drinks that will help you get in both your liquids and protein. About TIme Pro Hydrate and Isopure are two that I know of. Also, there's a protein pudding recipe that's really good as well. Just take a scoop of vanilla or chocolate Protein powder, 6oz of plain, nonfat greek yogurt, and 1-2 tsp of Water. Mix it up, add water to thin to your liking. You might not finish it in one sitting but it's a great way to get in some extra protein while getting a "snack" as well. Best of luck!

Good way to add extra protein to your shake, 1 cup of 1% milk at 9g of protein along with half a cup of Greek yogurt for 8.5g , half of a small banana along with your powder I have a shake that is 44.5g of protein....

When I was on soft foods I ate refried Beans with cheese, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, tuna, grilled salmon, etc. I didn't have room for much more than the Protein. I did start having some green beans on occasion, but I certainly wouldn't have had room for mashed potatoes (plus, I avoid starches). The World According To Eggface blog has some recipe ideas for the soft phase. -
We can often develop food intolerances immediately postop with lactose being one of the most common. That could be the cause of the pain and diarrhea. For me, lactose, artificial sweeteners and plain Water caused severe pain, but fortunately the intolerances went away after about 4 months. Maybe try not drinking the Protein shakes or yogurt for a few days and see if it gets better. You can use almond or coconut milk or even Lactaid milk and an egg, soy or hemp Protein powder to get in your protein during that time. Even an ultra filtered 100% whey powder might work since it is much lower in lactose than the premier Protein drinks. And I definitely second the Probiotics suggestion. Look for a product with 20-30 different strains and at least 50 billion CFU found in the refrigerated section of most whole/health food stores.

Today is day 12 post op and my biggest issue is stomach irritability, I guess is the best way to describe it. It never stops and is quite uncomfortable and embarrassing. When empty it is calmer but with any food whatsoever it's obnoxious. I know it has to be gas but I rarely pass any, more likely I will have diarrhea. It's loud, rumbly, and at times painful, but always uncomfortable. Of all the things to be concerned with, I know this seems trivial but if someone could give me some guidance, I'd sincerely appreciate it. I'm to the point that I'm abstaining from food too much. I know that's not right and need to fix this. So far, my soft foods are eggs, Soups, and yogurt. My shakes are Premier Protein. I'm always able to make my Water intake. Cottage cheese, hummus, refried beans, ricotta bake (recipe online, Greek yogurt (low sugar), sugar free pudding, canned tuna with mayo (check to see if tuna allowed in this stage on your plan)... there's a recipe section on this site.

I had my surgery on May 4th. I am still on a full liquid diet, which is mainly yogurt, cottage cheese and creamed soup. I miss sitting with my husband and kids at dinner. I have just been staying away since it is hard. I'm feeling like this was a big mistake. I hope I feel "normal" once I can eat again. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

haleymarie replied to haleymarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone's different I guess. I believed that too until in hospital they were giving me pudding and yogurt -
Let's see, the first 4 days were pretty rough, but now as of a week out its a lot better. I'm still not getting in all my liquids and protien but I am eating. I've managed apple sauce, yogurt, pudding, and mashed patatoes. No more then 4oz and I def haven't tried. But I feel normal again. How is everyone else feeling.

What wonderful responses you've had on this thread! I'm 21 months post-op, have lost all my excess weight (100 pounds) and now maintaining easily at 135 pounds. Currently (and I emphasize "currently" because things could change, which would mean I'd have to change what I'm doing) ... * I love food! Love the taste of it, the varieties of it, the nutrition of it, the discoveries, the freedom, and the fact that I am no longer afraid of food. Food has become a resource to me, as well as a pleasure. * Since I'm now on maintenance (eating about 1800 cals/day) about 75% of my calories come from nutritious food. The other 25% of my calories come from from good-tasting, but un-nutritious things like alcohol (one drink a day), sugar treats (e.g., 1 biscotti, 2 squares of dark chocolate), or a starchy item (e.g., small biscuit). * I eat a lot of animal and plant Protein, aim for 5 veggies and fruits a day, whole grains, and mostly healthy fats and oils (although I do have a little butter). * I eat full-fat cheese, skim milk, low-fat yogurt -- weird combo, I know, but I like it. * I minimize fast food -- have it rarely. * Only rarely do I eat white bread, white rice, white potatoes, white flour Pasta. Instead, I eat whole grain breads, brown rice, sweet potatoes, whole wheat, protein-enhanced pasta. * I make most of my eating decisions when I make grocery lists and shop for food. If trigger and unnutritious foods are not in the house, I can't eat them. That's a very good piece of advice for you. * I cook a lot more than I used to -- which reflects how rarely I eat "fast food" these days. * I plan my meals and I track all my food and drink intake in My Fitness Pal. I love it. Frankly, for me, it's the second best tool I use to maintain my weight; the first best tool, of course, is my sleeve. * I still (most days) drink a Protein Drink for Breakfast. I just like the taste, and it gives me a great start to the day of 25 grams of protein for only 170 calories. * I take my very few meds (thyroid and H2 blocker antacid) and my Vitamins and other dietary supplements daily and on time. * So far, no food is permanently off limits -- although a lot of foods are on the "only once a week" list or "once in a blue moon" list or "only at X restaurant" list. * I'm still learning a lot about nutrition, metabolism, and eating mindfully. I expect I'll never stop learning. I hope not. -
