62 days post op and 20 glorious POUNDS down! =)
btrieger replied to corinne211's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not the number. It's the realization that you are experiencing. An awakening if you wish. You may have had doubts that you could lose substantial weight and now you know that it is more than a pipe dream. That excitement is contagious and will spread among those close to you. Keep it up!!! -

Waiting period? Incredibly frustrated!

I also have uhc. I was told I us to be on a 6 month supervised diet. I did lose each month 30 lbs total. But I loose and gain that last 10 lbs of that 30 lbs and the doctor did not say anything. I guess it is up to your doctor and insurance plan. -
My sister had (what the doctor thought) was two herniated disks - when he got in there he found a third one!!! She had surgery after a horrible week in the hospital on drugs to get the inflammation down - and is fantastic today - so good that she was able to exercise 6 days a week and lose over 100 lbs! by eating healthy on Weight Watchers --- so yes surgery CAN be a good thing - esp in your mom's case with it affecting bladder, etc.....I have NOT ever had surgery on my herniated disks and now that 6 have herniated and deteriorated I WISH I had surgery long ago - maybe I would be in better shape now Like the lapband - make sure you get a 2nd and 3rd opinion and that the surgeon has done LOTS of herniated disks -- my vote is that she has it done -- but that's just my opinion

so tomorrow i will be 2 weeks post op, and i am feeling great! i started the soft & moist stage of my diet, which is wonderful because i can eat so many more things. i had no idea how good tuna or eggs could be! haha. anyway, my pain is all gone, i can finally sleep on my stomach again & i have my energy back. the good news is, i guess because i'm still a newbie, i still feel like i have restriction. i mean i can eat very little still, but enough to keep my full. & apparently i'm eating the right stuff because i stay full for a long time. now wednesday is my 2 week follow up, so we'll see if i've lost any weight. i haven't weighed myself since day of surgery!

From the album: Re-Birthday celebration
My dear friend Zac, my "brother from another mother". He had VSG surgery on 12/17/13. His highest weight was 401lbs, here around 240lbs!!! -
So I haven't weight trained since my VSG on January 8, because I didn't want to do it until I'd gotten clearance at my three-month post-op checkup, which was last week. (I've been swimming and walking for exercise since surgery, but no weight training.) I got clearance from my surgeon to resume weight training last week, so I went to the YMCA (where I work out) today. The YMCA has a computer system called ActivTrax that will generate weight-training workouts for you so you don't work the same muscles all the time or get bored, and I wanted to have a trainer re-evaluate my ActivTrax weight stats before I just went back at it willy-nilly. I did the re-evaluation today, and I am right where I was before surgery. The last time I weight trained must have been December sometime, but I guess the swimming helped keep my muscles strong, because the trainer didn't have to adjust any of my weight levels. I can pick right back up where I left off. I am so happy I haven't lost any strength. I love weight training (cardio bores me but I do it anyway), and I am just tickled pink that I can still do what I was doing pre-op. YAY!

Anyone 5 years or more post-op?
FighterGirl replied to Pink Stella's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have been banded for 6 years, I was rebanded to a larger band in 2006. I had a slow weight loss, but I have achieved a size I like and have maintained it for 2 years. -
My dr let me make the decision. Stand up for yourself and maybe offer to take out a little and keep in touch about what you're feeling. Some people get really nauseated and need to be unfilled. I let them take out just a little bit and I have gained about 25 pounds- which I am okay with. It's nice to be able to eat some during the pregnancy- but I can't wait to lose it again!

Weight loss is awesome for the jeans
Mw9955 replied to mellifrits's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Yay!!!!! You are doing awesome. You got it Mellifrits - exercise is essential for a healthy success. After my stall, i recently started a light workout and the weight is going down again - 143 lbs as of this week! I look healthy and am perfectly happy at this weight, but just wanna tone up a bit. I am sooo happy with my gastric plication surgery as well - and wouldn't change a thing! You go girl and thanks for posting your success! -
Hey guys! I am exactly 2 months post op and am down 30lbs. I understand that the norm for weight loss is 1-2lbs a week but there have been times where I've lost nothing for 2-3 weeks and where I've lost nearly 5lbs a week. I am getting my second fill tomorrow (I'm at 4cc'snow). What have you all noticed is a normal amount of weight to lose in the first few months, and how does it change in the future?

My Dr referred me for nutrition classes in March 2013 that started May 1, 2013. The classes lasted 12 weeks. I lost the required weight and had the surgery on September 23, 2013.

Being Tested For C. Diff. (Clostridium Difficile) Ugh!
LosingItForMe2011 replied to LosingItForMe2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Bariatric Op - I actually ended up on a second round of antibiotics but, that time she put me on Florastor to help get the good bacteria built up. It worked, thank goodness! I've been off the antibiotics now for ...hmm...about 3 weeks and everything seems good. My weightloss has slowed down tremediously though. My metabolism is shot and has been for years. I'm hoping it will pick up soon! I just got back from Disney in Florida...walked about 10 miles a day, did my best with protein and didn't eat any junk yet gained weight. UGH!!!! So ticked. Although I can tell I'm retaining fluid it still stinks knowing I passed on all the fatty foods etc while there. OH well....I know this works and gotta kick up my exercise and fluids. Back to work on Monday...back to the grind of meeting all the nutritional things. How are you doing? -
Are there any banded (or soon to be banded) quilters?
lindseyann2u replied to fluffyinks's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've sewn for a long time -- in fact I have a BS in Home Ec. I started quilting in about 2000. I'm waiting for a surgery date. I've been getting through all the tests and pre-op stuff, and it's taken months. My date should be in late October, or early November, but I have to prove I've lost the 15 pounds first. I've got 13 down my first week of dieting, and two to go, but no weight loss this week. Sticking with it though. Boy, you have less than two weeks before the big day. Good luck! I think it's going to be life-changing, don't you? -
Mine are pretty small too. The doctor said there shouldn't be any issue, but I wanted to hear from the people who have lived it...honestly, my dose is always very weight sensitive, so I'll be going to see my endocrinologist regularly as I lose weight to get my meds checked...so I don't know why I'm worrying...

Feelin' good and spreadin' the word!
Who Dat 70461 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
As James Brown sang, "I feel good!"! Sleeved May 8, 2013...326 lbs. Whole host of good stuff to accompany the weight...high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, aching joints, etc.! Heck, if I were a horse, they would've just shot me! LOL As of this morning, 222.2 lbs.! Oh yea...no high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, aching joints, etc.! Now if I were a horse....well, in the essence of keeping this post clean, we'll just say I'd be one heck of a ride! Sorry, I'm just in a great mood! I wasn't going to post anything, for fear of sounding vain, however my wife reminded me that I would peruse this site for hours when I was first considering surgery. I would read the posts, look at the pics and be amazed at the transformations, thinking, "Wow, wish I could do that.". Guess what? If you are doing the same, I'm living proof that you can do it too! It hasn't been easy (As most will tell you, surgery is only a tool...you gotta put in some effort.), but I'll tell you this...it has been life-changing! I now workout 5 days a week...although I take weekends off, I still make it a point to do something active (biking, walking, swimming, yard work, etc.). Which being active is much easier when you're not carrying around all that extra fat! I no longer view carbs as evil, now they're fuel! I eat whatever I can tolerate, but now in moderation. We spent Christmas at Disney World and the rides are so much more fun when you can fit in them comfortably...you can actually breathe! We walked the various Disney parks for 9 days and felt great! No cramps...aching bones...sore feet (Okay, I'm lying a bit, the feet were a little sore, but that was due to all the walking and running from ride to ride! LOL). When we go out to eat, I ask for a booth! I CAN FIT COMFORTABLY IN A BOOTH! Well, in case you couldn't guess by now, this surgery has been everything I hoped it would be, plus some! My wife was sleeved exactly two months after me and is just as giddy! Although my surgery, recovery and journey have been textbook, my wife had a little lengthier recovery. She had two hernias repaired and it took her a bit longer to get going, but once she did...wow! I hit my goal about 3 weeks ago and she hit hers 4-5 weeks ago! There are no guarantees in life and your journey/results may not be the same as mine. However, if you are considering it, I pray you have an even better outcome than me! Oh, and if you do...please aspire to inspire before you expire! -
Thank you so much everybody for the advice. I too thought it seemed like a little much at this time. I will keep doing what I'm doing for now with a goal to be around 1000-1200 calories eventually. Right now, I'm still losing and don't feel like I need more calories. I will adjust my diet if I start seeing the weight loss slow down or stop. Once again, I really appreciate the advice.

Hey everybody. I just wanted to update. I am 1 month post-op and down 22lbs since day of surgery and 42lbs total from highest weight. Although I don't really see much of a change yet, my family says they can really tell. I am thrilled by that. I do have a question though. My dr. has recommended that I try to get in 1000-1200 calories daily. Does anybody else have that high of a requirement? I am having a really hard time doing that. At this point, I haven't been able to consume more than 650 calories in a day due to nausea and feeling extremely full. My goal is to have 75 grams of Protein as well. I try to get a lot of my protein from food sources, but being that I can't really eat much more than 3-4 tablespoons of any given food, that can be a little difficult. I have been trying to change my Protein shakes frequently cause I still haven't found one that I really enjoy. I have been doing a little protein shot that's about 3.8oz with 2 grams of protein for the last 2 weeks, but even that has been hard to choke down lately. Right now I have flavorless Protein powder that I try to sprinkle on my food and drinks which has been helping a little. What are your favorite protein shakes? I need some more options, lol! Also, my Dr. hasn't really given me any information regarding fat and carbs totals. Other than being low carb and fat, I'm not really sure of a min and max daily allowance. I know all Dr's are different, but would anybody be willing to share their requirements at 4 weeks out. Thanks so much for all the support! Living and learning day by day!

Poll, how long until you really felt good ?
janed replied to kimmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, I know all about the impatient part. But now I look back and time has gone by. I was banded on Jan. 19th 2007. I was playing tennis after 2 weeks. After about 1 week I never experienced the gas pain again. I know everyone is different, but I did have an easy recovery. Just take one day at a time and you will start to see the light at the end of the tunnel before you know it. banded Jan. 19th start weight 212 weight today 170 Goal weight 150ish -
Hi. I had my surgery on sep 14. Lost 30 up to today . I am stalling for 3 weeks maybe more. I meet my nutritionist for the first time after surgery . She told me I should take fruit and vegetable with my protein. My surgeon was so against fruit . She told me no fruit or just few berries only. But the nutritionist said the reason I do not Loos weight is because I had too much protein and no fruit or vegetable . How about you guys? Do you eat fruit ? How much a day ? Thanks

What about the psych. eval...?
Dragonwillow replied to mousecrazy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just had the psych consult this last week. I have never been to a psych for myself before, and its very unnerving for them to write down what you say LOL. Other than that, he just asked me about the surgery, why I wanted it, why I though I had a weight promblem and what I hoped to accomplish with the surgery. He did say I will probally have to come back and take a questioneer thing, but insurance most likely wont' pay for it...so not looking forward to dishing out another 150.00. I'm poor ya know. (the only stress I could think of was MONEY ) lol...so then he tells me this! LOL Melissa -
Is my doctor crazy?!
LilMissDiva Irene replied to Lila21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it is true and possible, however keep in mind - she is a woman and she weighs less (so her metabolism is going to be quite different). It's not going to be as easy to lose as it may have been for you. Regardless, Congratulations for you're really doing amazing!!! Lila, wow - I agree so much with feed's Dr. I follow that same guideline that I will find my successes in more ways than just the scale. I specifically look for NSV's every single day! My weight loss has been much lower than most others around here so that is what I do to keep positive and know I AM doing a good job. Though I do use my scale as a guide on whether I can try harder or not. However I am very content on my losses to date!! I do set mini goals but and I have set dates attached to try to work to get there. It is disappointing though when I don't make them. I just set the bar lower this time, to something I personally know I can do. Good luck to you!! -
Down 100Lbs With More Than 100 Lbs To Go...
Frederic replied to Frederic's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've been staying under my calorie goals and increasing my protein helps but my reduction in calories hasn't offset the reduction in exercise. I'm not even sure it's fat that's responsible for the weight even with my wieght yo-yo-ing by 10lbs my smaller clothes keep fitting. One of the problems with weighing this much is that gaining or losing 2lbs in a day is pretty common I really depend on looking at the tend over a month and it's frustrating to see there hasn't been much change from my weight 3 months ago. Does anyone whose hand the band over a year have any insight on winter weight?
