    Liquid diet

I used a straw a couple weeks after surgery. as for vitamins. its more about finding what works best for you. Its trial and error to find one that wont make you throw up or feel nausea. I personally take 1 of these a day. and even these cause me to throw up every once in a while.

    Pre qualifications for surgery

I didn’t have surgery with Carrum but can tell you that the length of time the process takes is dictated mostly by the insurance company. Some require a 3 or 6 month weight loss attempt where a doctor weighs you every month. Also most require a psyc evaluation and you may also have to do some medical tests to determine you are fit for surgery to name a few of the common requirements. Beyond that, it will just depend on how busy your doctor is. Once I had completed my requirements it was about a month till my surgery.
  3. I planned for 2 weeks but I was able to do desk work a few days later. I work from home though so I don't know how I would've done with a lot of people around me. The only pain I had was a sore throat for the first 2 days. I knew better this time around and chewed on Mylanta minis for gas pain. While the pain wasn't bad at all for me, I did feel tired like the others for awhile so your plan sounds about right. No field work for a few weeks just so you can let your body have the best possible healing.

    July 2022 peeps!

I've slowed as well. I'm also in the middle of week 3. This is to be expected.

    3 Month Stall?

No, it's not common. There, I answered your question since you don't like it when people try to help you out by figuring out why you stalled so early.. Cheers.
  7. I had my surgery July 6 and I was the same way for the first like 2 1/2 weeks. I could barely make it to the bathroom. But I still have a few episodes if something doesn't settle right with my stomach but it's not near as bad as it was. Hope yours get better soon. 8. Hello everyone! Currently I am not under my employers insurance plan yet. They list three different companies/plans: Aetna Choice POS ii (open) Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO United Healthcare Choice plus I am trying to get more information in the months to come on specifics (pre op requirements, if I need to go to a "center of excellence", etc.) I spoke to my job's HR dept. and they only gave me their medical benefits PDF which includes a very vague breakdown of their own requirements (BMI over 40, nutritionist, psych, physical commitment) other than that they just state to add whatever requirements are listed on the specific insurance policy. I thought it would be as easy as just calling these three companies and asking them their requirements based off of specific plans and I keep getting the run around. Most state that they can assist until I have enrolled so they can see specifics, but my jobs HR states I should be able to call and ask ahead of time. Do I need to wait until I enroll? I was hoping to call each company so I can compare/contrast pros/cons (I would prefer only needing 3 months of dietician, etc. rather than 6, etc.) but it seems I have to just (sort of) blindly pick one and hope for the best? I guess I assumed that each plan has it's own specific requirements set it stone, and then possible other ones that my job may add in... just seems a lot more difficult to try to get everything organized before diving in. Thank you!!

    July 2022 peeps!

Welcome to the July Peeps and also to the site. I'm sorry about your stall. That has to be frustrating going that long without the scales moving. After I lost 12.6 in week one, I lost 5.6 in week two and only 2.6 in week three. I need to be happy that I''m 20 lbs down but it feels like my progress has slowed to a crawl. At my 2-week post-op visit my surgeon told me not to worry about it. It's temporary and my body was going through changes. Many on the forum have mentioned a "Week 3 stall", so you are not the only one this happens to. It's temporary and you should break out of it soon.
  11. I reprogrammed before surgery also. Started counting my chews and learning to sip rather than chug. Put your fork down between bites while you are chewing. Then your mind isn't already preparing for the next bite and you will focus more on chewing the food already in your mouth. Sipping sucked. I drink a lot and always have chugged. But I managed. I am just about 4.5 months post op, I still count and put the fork down while I eat. As far as water, I chug now and it doesn't bother me at all. Probably don't chug as much as I used to, but definitely chugging. 5/6 big drinks/gulps at a time. I started sipping, tiny tiny sips (1oz cup was 2 or 3 sips) and just naturally it got easier and easier until I realized I was taking normal sips and then it excelled from there.

    Days off work after surgery

I took off 2 weeks, when I went back the third week I worked "what I could". I was not in physical pain except when I found myself hunching forward at my desk it would start to hurt my abdomen. But, my job is mentally draining and very demanding. I was exhausted by lunch and went home half days most of that week. By week 4 I was pretty much completely back to normal and kept up with the full time.

    Days off work after surgery

I had surgery on a Tuesday and was back to work (desk job from home) on Monday -so almost a week. Pain was fine but I was SO TIRED. I had to take breaks to rest frequently, and took a nap every single day after work for at least the first week back. I would say, if you have a good bit of flexibility and can rest when needed, you'll be fine. If not, a full 2 weeks might be helpful.

    July 2022 peeps!

I had my surgery July 5th and I have been stalled since July 18th…I’m 25 pounds down which I’m grateful for but this stall is very scary. 2 full weeks of no change. I can’t help but to be discouraged when I see that others in my support group aren’t stalling.

    Days off work after surgery

I planned for a week off, but put in some half-days from home. My surgery was on a Thursday and by Monday I was putting in 5 hours a day from my bedroom office. I felt pretty good physically and probably could have put in full days, but felt I deserved a little relaxation time. I went back to full days at the end of the first week.
  16. How many days off work did your dr suggest? how many days did you take? Do you think you should have taken more or less or go part time to start? my surgeon has said he recommends a few days off after surgery. I plan on at least a week off and then part time for a week or two as I go through the first part of the recovery. My job is mostly in an office. I do go out in the field to do some work, but will be putting that on hold during the first part of my recovery. I would love to know real experiences!
  17. My nutritional consultant talked about reprogramming my swallowing center with surgery; learning to chew more thoroughly to process foods into a paste before swallowing to get the most nutrition and satisfaction from meals. since then I have been trying to pay attention to my swallowing while trying to begin my preop diet changes (no surgery date yet but I will do 3 weeks at 50 carb hard limit) . It really i difficult to do properly without paying 100% attention to your mouth’a actions!!! I like to gulp drinks and take only a few chews before swallowing. It is making me even more mindful of my eating process. what was your experience with reprogramming your swallowing center? How long did the process take to “stick”? Is it like other habits which take a month or so of constant attention to start to change?

    September surgery buddies!!

I agree that the liquid diet seems a great place to start. Thats when I think I'll take my offiicial starting weight and hope that I lose something during the 2 weeks of pre op torture lol.

    3 Month Stall?

Hey! I just finished 3 months too and had a really slow loss month (only 2kgs). It’s really ruined my day coz I thought I was doing really well. Unfortunately I think I wasn’t tracking my food properly and have probably been eating too much. My nutritionist advised being diligent for two weeks and hitting 60g of protein and then seeing if there’s any change. (I asked the same question earlier today and most people are telling me the same thing - to track better, so I’m going to try again) hope this is helpful! P.s. I’m working out around 4 times a week with a personal trainer too! She said to stop eating shit as well lol

    August surgery buddies!

Some of you may already know my surgery got pushed from 8/8 to 8/29 due to an insurance authorization issue. My doctor and surgery scheduler are working hard to try to get me approved for the hiatal hernia repair/ bypass. My insurance said it wasn’t medically necessary. So after already doing one week of pre-op liquid diet I get to start over around the 15th! I also have to have an upper GI to document the hernia. Fun fun! Please keep your fingers crossed that I can get through this!🤞🏻😊

    3 Month Stall?

To answer your condescending questions: I’ve been at the same weight for one week. No changes to eating or drinking routines. No new medications. I work out six times a week which is a lot more than a lot of other people on here. I was looking for reassurance, not another person who thinks they’re entitled to an entire medical history.

3 months post VSG and NOTHING

Your profile doesn't show what your current weight is, only the weight you've lost. Knowing your current weight will give us some context to your post. You may be fairly close to a healthy weight and if that's the case weight loss will be lower slower now. I am assuming you've have dropped clothing sizes, but perhaps weight loss isn't being reflecting on the scales? If by working out you mean weights, any fat loss you may have had in the past few weeks may be masked by fluid retention.

    3 Month Stall?

It is common to stall at various stages, however, to know whether its a genuine stall or something you may or may not be doing is a different matter. What you haven't said is how long seen you've seen a loss on the scale? A week? A month? A few days? If its been longer than a few weeks - A starting point is to confirm whether a stall or something else...are you still following your post op guidelines regarding the foods you are eating and the volumes (or weights as provided in your guidelines)? Check that you are drinking plenty of fluids, getting some type of activity most days etc etc. Have you started any new medication that may increase fluid retention? Have you started to exercise or increased exercise intensity? Starting doing resistance / weighs training?

    Swallowable bariatric vitamins

I take my multivitamin whenever I wake up (as long as you wake up before 10) and i take my calcium at 12 and 3. I have a recurring alarm set on my phone for the calcium because if I am out and about I will totally forget it. I take calcium in pill form but I have a few chewable ones in my purse in case I am out and don’t have a drink handy. I had some left over from immediately post op when I used to take them so I just use them for that now.

    3 Month Stall?

I’m right around the three month mark post surgery and I’ve hit a stall. Is this common around this point? I’ve lost 35 lbs since my surgery date.
