  1. Hi all..real quick intro..Im 22, banded in Feb, almost to goal weight. I want to have some PS done, so I can actually be a normal 22 year old...problem is, I am working on getting my teaching certificate so dont have alot of money. I want implants and a tummy tuck and maybe an arm life..if you have had PS in Texas or Mexico could you relate some of your experiences to me? Thanks. My parents are dead set against Mexico, but if I have to come up with the money, then O well Thanks so much

    Is my progress enough?

I feel like my weight loss has stopped at 7 months out. I feel like I will not lose anymore than the 100 pounds I have lost already. I am pretty bummed about the whole thing. I have been eating right all week and the scale is going up and not down. I must admit I have not exercised a single bit since surgery, I know I need to but cannot get motivated to do so.
  3. Hey Neena, You in a very similar boat as me! I only had 85 pounds to lose...and it took me over 2 months to lose 20 pounds...I am up to 7 months and have only lost 40 pounds. You cant compare your weigh loss with someone who has 150 pounds to lose, because when you have less to lose it will take longer. You are right on track, though you made need another fill. Find foods that are high in Protein to keep you full, and make sure you are drinking A LOT of water! I found when I was working out, and eating that if I didnt drink close to a gallon of Water a day, my weight loss slowed way down...now, on the other hand, I only drink water...I dont drink soft drinks or juice...so a gallon is not hard for me...but try and get at least 72 oz if not more. Good luck, and contact me anytime if you need anything or have questions! Shauna

6 months of fear and self doubt

I think the meditation is a good idea, and I know it was helpful to me. Even though you do not want to lose weight during this period so that you can qualify for surgery (assuming you have a borderline BMI), you could also take this time to really practice mindful eating, which will help after you have surgery, and focus on any other behavioral or mental blocks to eating well and taking very good care of yourself. I wish you good luck!

    From the album: My Journey

Banded 11/18/11 Thought I should take a half way picture. I have officially made it half way to my goal weight.
  6. I am halfway through my 6 month supervised diet with my PCP, required by my insurance, my question is what exactly is the insurance looking for during this period. My belief is that they want me to prove I cannot do it on my own before they will pay for the surgery, so I haven't really been putting much effort into it. Or do they want to see some weight loss to prove I will be successful WITH the lap band. So far I have lost about 15-20lbs. basically because I have given up soda...yeah me!
  7. Again like everyone said-who knows what they want. I lost 5 pounds and gained that five pounds back in the 3 months that I went to the doctor. Also, stick with it. You are young and do not want this weight to cause more problems with your health. I was just approved and I can't wait. I am infertile and can't have children due to my weight. So, go through the end of the diet and then go for the approval. Good Luck!!

  11. I am having a hard time finding out, with aetna's requirement that there is "no net gain". Is that from month to month, or overall from start to finish? I started at 440 lbs, and lost 10 pounds the first month. So if I weight 435 next weigh in is that going to possibly disqualify me?
  12. My cardiologist still has me on a low dose aspirin a day and my surgeon is okay with it. It's not ideal but sometimes you need to weight one ailment against another. Since you're worried you should give your doctor a call and listen to what they tell you.

    Pissed!

Well, average weight loss per month is about 10-13 pounds, so it looks like you are above average on losing the pounds. I would not be disappointed by any means. Patience! Lol
  14. Hi there! I was banded in February 05. I started losing weight but shortly thereafter I became pregnant. The pregnancy went well and it was nice to only gain the recommended amount of weight this time thanks to the band. After giving birth to my little girl in February 06, I started losing weight again. I am down to 175 from my (unpregnant) high of 240. I say that because my all time highest weight was nearly 280 when I was 9 months pregnant with my son. Anyway - although I have been successful, it has not been easy going. I find that in order for me to lose weight, I have to have my band so tight that I am only able to eat soup most of the time and drink milk and juice for my other calories. I know that I am too tight - but I cannot lose otherwise. My nights are miserable, I'm either awake coughing or spitting up saliva as soon as I fall asleep. I also have to sleep sitting up which has limited me to the couch. That's okay though cause hubby won't go get that vasectomy we've been talking about and this body is not making any more babies! It's pretty bad - but I don't want to get loosened up because I want to make it to my goal of 150. I had my doctor only fill me up .25cc's at a time and last time I had .25cc's removed I gained weight. I survive on such little amounts of food, sometimes I don't know how I function. I chase 3 little ones around all day. The funny thing is too that no matter how little I eat and how much I exercise and move, I lose soooooooo slowly!!!! I guess I'm just looking to make sure I'm not the only one who has to suffer like this for the band to work. If you asked me however if I would do it all over again, I would. To me all the suffering and lack of sleep is worth it when I look in the mirror. I would never want to go back to where I began. I feel very good and if I never see 150 - it will still all have been worth it. I will say that I would never tell anyone to absolutely go get it done - that's a decision they need to make without my advice. Can anyone else relate? Thanks! Jeanette
  15. @@Stevehud - I weight everyday, as well. I went for my first 2 1/2 weeks losing a pound a day. Then the "dreaded stall". I stalled for 4 days straight. UGH!!! I didn't get upset, other that I couldn't say that I've lost a pound a day anymore! With the sleeve, you KNOW it's not gonna just stop! You WILL loose it, probably a couple! Guys are so lucky! Good luck on your journey!!!

12 pounds down in 8 DAYS!

Don't worry about gaining. You won't be getting enough calories to gain.
  17. Today is my one month surgiversary!!! I can't believe it. Still feels like yesterday I was freaking out about insurance approval and all the crappola that went along with it. Today, I feel like I am doing well and progressing well. I haven't lost as much as most, because I started out as a low BMI'er. But honestly it feels pretty dang awesome. Starting weight: 199 Surgery weight: 192.6 Current weight: 172.5 Goal weight: 120 Inches lost in the first month: 12.75 inches!!!! Wgt lost to date 26.5lbs 20.1lbs since surgery. It is so amazing!!! I can't believe it. And I am so thankful for every glorious pound and inch. I love the Diva!!! She is awesome!!!

    Home scale vs dr scale

Each scale is going to be slightly different, so I'd stick with the consistency of your home scale to determine your ups and downs. Weight is, after all, just a number, and the number on your scale is your most consistent.

    Home scale vs dr scale

The doctors scale always seems different than my own, I was checking on two different scales until I put the other one away for now and using my mother’s bathroom scale. Every so often the two would say the same weight, but mostly they didn’t match up. I figured I’m just obsessed. But make sure the scale is on a solid level floor like tile. My bedroom floor had some flex to it I guess it throws the scale off. Also how you stand on it seems to make a difference (or maybe my imagination) but step on it with feet at the outer edges (a more stable stance?) and look straight ahead and not down at the scale until it’s done calculating. That said I go by my home scale (I always forget what the surgeon scale says) my general practitioner scale always seems on the high side. I had an endoscopy Thursday July 11th and my weight went up and got stuck for the past few days.
  20. I went to the hospital today to get my endoscopy since I’m having trouble eating most solid meats. They weighed me once and it was 102 kg(point something idk exact number) but they told me it was 224.9lbs. Well the past few days when I weigh myself at home it shows that I’ve gained weight. For example a week ago I was 227 and yesterday it said I was 232. Well I got home after my procedure and weighed myself and it said 233lbs. Which is almost a ten lbs difference. My question is which is more accurate? Or which do you personally think is more accurate. Usually I go by mine because it says I’m a couple lbs less than the office but this time it’s the complete opposite which confuses me. I want to say the lower weight but that’s just because it makes me feel better😂

    Plateau/Regain

I was just gonna say what the others have said "log your food" I gained ten pounds when I stopped logging my food. As soon as I started logging calories, the weight started to go down.

    Plateau/Regain

yes - log food and figure out how many calories you're currently averaging a day - and cut back gradually from there until you start losing again. Once people are out a ways from surgery, the number of calories it takes to maintain or lose varies tremendously depending on a lot of different factors, so you'll just have to experiment to find your range. I can maintain on 1700 and lose on 1500, but that seems to be on the high side for women. A lot can only eat around 1200 to maintain. So again, you'll have to experiment to see what level works for you. and yes - increasing exercise can help a bit (and is great for your overall health), but as they say, weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise, so you'll have to adjust your food intake as well.

    Today I have realized...

There is transient depression as we heal. For no reason, you might wake up depressed, or have it descend upon you. It's important to know it's temporary and has a physical derivation caused by fluctuating hormones released from your fat as you lose weight, or as a result of anesthesia and having someone inside you messing with your guts. (Your guts produce neurohormones that regulate mood.) Hang in there. Deep breathe, drink LOTS of water, do comedy therapy on Netflix, walk a LOT, get outside into sunshine and nature, hug someone hard for a long time! Smile to your reflection in the mirror, get enough sleep, eat your protein and veg and all will be well in your world soon.
  24. Im 3.5 months post RNY and have lost an amazing amount of weight. I've been extremely strict with myself! I went to a year end function and helped myself to a few Snacks as a treat.... Two days later I weighed in and had picked up over a kilogram / half a pound!!! It's coming off very slowly too... With ONLY shakes and lots of exercise. Can anyone shed any light or hope? Am I going to be on shakes for the rest of my life in order to maintain my weight? Sent from my SM-G900F using the BariatricPal App
