Not losing, confused and frustrated
DebraM04 replied to mom2wils's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I may be just as confused. As I also had a revision band to sleeve 5/27. I started at 229 I'm currently at 206 I also fall off the wagon but continue to jot my food intake and I never go over 950 calories regardless what I eat. I would assume I would still loose at that rate. I don't know. I'm back on track now but it's just patience remember this is a tool. -
Not losing, confused and frustrated
mom2wils posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I'm about a month and a half post band to sleeve revision (5/10 surgery) and I'm feeling very frustrated and confused about my lack of weight loss. I started at 236 and shortly after surgery (2 weeks postop) was down to 220. I'm now down to 214. I haven't moved for about a month. I was logging my food whole hog at the beginning but fell off the wagon for a couple of weeks but in the past week have gotten back at it in order to get a handle on things. At my last follow up appt my surgeon asked how much Protein I was taking in (when he found out I stalled) and I told him I was aiming for around 60 grams. He told me to only aim for 40. That seems counterintuitive to me especially being pre-diabetic with PCOS. His office doesn't have a NUT so I only have him to rely on. At this point I'm beyond frustrated. He wants me down another 20 lbs by the time I go back to see him in a month. Everyone else on here seems to have the weight melt off and I'm sitting here much like I was before with the band - feeling very frustrated and wondering why I did this. I'm committed to tracking my intake, getting more exercise, and getting my protein in but beyond that I'm at a loss. Any suggestions - especially from those who have done a band to sleeve conversion?? Thanks for "listening"..... -
Insurance approved band removal but denied revision to sleeve
kgarrettsatx posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
At first i was upset cuz now i have to pay $14,500 for the sleeve revision in the same surgery. Shouldnt there be somewhat of a discount since im already under anesthesia and ins is covering that? Anyway. Trying to see it as glass half full. Paying will give me more of an incentive to follow the rules and be successful since im investing hard earned money. Same here! I had my revision June 6th and I'm just so happy with my new life! I'm not hungry at all, I eat a tiny bit and I'm full, and I don't have to run to the bathroom with that aweful pain in the chest after having one bite of chicken! This is night and day! Just an update with me. It's been a year since my revision and im at goal at 170 although I still want to lose a few more. 135 pounds lost in a year. Revision surgery doesnt have to be any slower. It's up to you as to how successful you are. These are the best days of my life. Looking forward to skin surgery next year.

My insurance denied my revision surgery that was scheduled for Tuesday. Has anyone had experience with hiring Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy group to help with the appeals process?

Insurance denied!

I am in the same boat. I was denied mid-liver shrink diet a week before my revision surgery date this past Tuesday. I hired Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy group after doing lots of research on them. They have a great track record of getting denials overturned. They started working today on my case and have been updating me throughout the day. So I am hopeful. Maybe they could help you too. -
@gowalking...this is long Ken is doing really well. No issues for him, with the band anyway. He's still suffering from the after affects of his car accident last year with torn rotator cuffs in both arms and back issues but he's pulling through and doing PT. I really hope they don't find anything when they do the upper endoscopy, but first to visit the GI Dr. and see what he has to say. I can't imagine what food it might be that would cause swelling like that but I guess it could be anything at this point. If they don't find any damage internally to or from the band I would leave it and keep working with it. I'm sure many of the issues are digestive they were even before I was banded...to be honest I'm not sure what they can do about that. I've been to GI Dr.'s before and they don't really offer much in the way of diagnosis and treatment. I have really been watching my intake since I had the pancreatitis seems any type of fat really sends my digestive system for a loop. It was making me really feel like I had food poisoning so now I pretty much steer clear of anything that looks even the slightest bit greasy. I knew it wasn't the band per se since I would get sick (nausea and sometimes have to vomit) an hour or more after eating. By then the food had already passed the band but would not pass much further and stomach pains would force me to want to get it out. We went to a Met game a while back and had the sausage peppers and onions...no bread at all. Cut that bad boy up small and no problem eating it didn't get stuck but about an hour and a half later I got so ill...it was not pretty we had to leave the game and I had stomach pains all night. I couldn't eat for 3 days after that from the irritation...just stayed on liquids. So I won't even touch sausage...not even turkey sausage. You would think I would have dropped lots of weight by now...living on cottage cheese, yogurt, and protein shakes oh yes an sugar free jello! I'm sure the ice cream I've been using as a crutch that keeps the weight on I switched practices for a while...and now just went back to the practice my original surgeon was at because the hospital is close to my office and Tuesday night I just could not take it anymore. I had to do something, I was sitting at my desk working like crazy and choking on my own body fluids. It felt kind of what I imagine drowning might feel like. I just texted my husband who was at work and drove myself to the ER. They did send one of the PA's from the Bariatric group down to see me in the ER and take the fluid out thank goodness because if they didn't I was about to grab a needle and do it myself I was that miserable!! The thing that I don't love about the group is that most of the Dr.'s and PA's that are there are all "new" to bariatrics. They are practicing in the field just over a year. Some of their surgeons as well, most of them were general surgeons and now working in Bariatrics. Not necessarily because that's what they want to do, but because that is where the hospital assigned them. I don't really like that. The director of the practice is one of the original bariatric Dr.'s that worked with my surgeon...but she's very difficult to get appointments with. They mostly give band patients to the PA, and they do ask you if you are interested in a revision. Not the first time I have heard this...and with all the discomfort I have been in I have said to Ken more than once I want to rip this thing out!!! BUT why fix what's not broken...? and to do a revision they remove the band surgically the same way it went in pretty much and then you heal for 6-9 months and need to be re-approved for the revised surgery...and then go through all the pre-op testing hoops again...so yeah I'm all for if it's not broken don't fix it only to rewire my insides...which are already driving me insane? No thanks. The one good thing is that this PA has worked in gastroenterology before working in bariatrics...so when I explained all the issues I've been having he didn't look at me like I had 6 heads. So I'm hopeful that they will figure out what's going on with me...and I can get back on track again. Maybe they have a magic pill now that they didn't have back then to keep the flair ups and swelling down and allow me to eat the way I need to for the band to work. I go to see that GI Dr. July 7th. So for now...it's protein shakes, cottage cheese, jello, and yogurt. Maybe next week I'll try some soft foods...and go through the phases again till I find out what the heck is going on in there.

Oh Lisa...crap, crap, and more crap. I'm so sorry to hear of this detour. I really hope that it can be resolved quickly and you can get back to 'normal'. What about Ken? Is he having any issues as well or no? Are you OK with the practice you have now that Geiss is retired? Any possibility of needing (or wanting) a revision to another type of surgery? I know how hard you work to be successful and I'd hate for something to mess that up.

Yayy you! How much weight did you lose with the band and are you having a revision due to complications?
-
There is no right or wrong answer to your question. This is a completely personal choice based on what you are comfortable with. I personally have done both... i told everyone when i had the band. And now that i have the sleeve i told only my family and 1 close friend. I choose not to tell the 2nd time around because i was sick of being known as the girl who had wls. Everything revolved around my weight and what i ate... i was no longer "me" my wls became what defined me, and i received a lot of negativity and pressure. I would get judged if i ate something naughty People felt it was okay to comment about everything and give unwanted advice I was constantly being watched when i ate, and criticized when THEY thought i ate too much or badly The pressure was overwhelming and i just didn't need it, especially when i am so hard on myself anyway. I felt that i wasn't given credit for my hard work, and was constantly being told i took the easy way out. I also lost many friendships as they felt i "changed"... because i was no longer their doormat and got my confidence back.. During arguments i had people use my weight loss against me when they ran out of ammunition. These were the main issues for me.. so when i was revised to the sleeve after having it removed for 12 months... i decided that it was no ones business and i didn't need the additional drama. This time... its all about me... i am choosing to be selfish for a change and do what is in my best interests. I have decided not to hand over my power to other people as i am a sensitive person who takes things quite personally. However, my experience is exactly that. .. my experience... people in your life might be supportive... they might suprise you. It really depends what you actually want. Which way are you feeling? How have these people handled things in the past? Are they jealous? What type of people are they?

Anyone from Houston, TX?
cinand38 replied to Elyse519's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. Primomo and his assistant are the best. I had an old Molina band that was placed in 1996. It had eroded my stomach and adhered to my spleen and liver. My surgery lasted almost 4 hours. Dr. Primomo was able to get the band out and revise to RNY. Surgery was on a Wednesday. I came home on Friday and cooked dinner for my family on Sunday and trimmed my rose bushes. Lol.... Pre- Op Insurance Approval Question
Daenerys Targaryen replied to SammiSosa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
. I am so sorry. My revision surgery was scheduled for yesterday, but insurance denied me too. I had my surgeon do a peer-to-peer phone call, and now insurance is reconsidering the decision (no answer yet). I had to request the peer-to-peer, it was not something my surgeon's office automatically offered. Just an idea if you are looking for a next step. -

Beth Schrope, MD, phasing out WLS? Know anything?
WLSResources/ClothingExch posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I learned yesterday from the Columbia bariatric office and Dr. Schrope's assistant at her office upstairs that she's been phasing out bariatric surgery for about a year in favor of only pancreas work. I imagine she's seeing her last batch of surgical patients through their follow-up process. It's been a couple of years since I was in to see the NP. Now my band seems in need of re-evaluation for viability. If indicated, I'm up for revision. I'll check further with her office on whether she'd do this. In the meantime, I'm wondering if anyone knows directly from her why she's decided to give up WLS? My little Schropey (she never knew that I thought of her as such)! She's so terrific. I felt admiration and affection for her and wanted either to adopt her or to be adopted by her. -

lap band removal first to get insurance approval to RNY ?
Bugaboo77 replied to offthebandwagon's topic in Insurance & Financing
In the same boat. Banded in 2010. Lost 40 lbs at first. Gained it all back due to eating what I could when I was too tight. I started getting a lot of pain so they did a swallow test and band was fine. They let it rest and we put some Fluid back in. I'm having some pain again. Switching doctors. I want to get the band out and maybe do something else, but my insurance won't pay for a revision unless it is medically necessary. Does it sound bad that I'm hoping for some sort of problem to get it out? The doctors that work with lap band around here are few and far between...at least 1 hour away for the nearest doctor to do a fill, and that is only offered 2 days a month. Grrrr.... CALLING ALL JULY 2016 SLEEVERS

July 27th lapband to sleeve revision--So excited -
@@BarefootDrummer @@mc2016 Thank you for your support ???? Yes, i agree with you.... its amazing how easy it is for some to belittle you because THEY have an opinion that they know nothing about. I had the band years ago, and was revised to the sleeve recently.... when i had my band, i told everyone... and boy was that a mistake, i regretted it because of all the negativity and comments that people thought they had the right to make. This time around i decided that i would not say anything to avoid that. I was sick of people commenting about my weight, watching me to see what i eat, commenting about what i put in my mouth, making me feel bad if i "cheated", not understanding the hard work it took to get goal.... especially when i was an emotional eater. I have always been a clean eater, my issue was never junk, but i would eat to suppress my emotions.... so having people be cruel and mean didn't help with that post surgery... it made the fight against my emotional eating so much harder. But, once i got to goal and maintained for a while.. people did calm down a bit... they got used to my new size and saw me as "normal"... so i guess that was the silver lining. Once i started gaining after i had the band removed.... they seemed almosy HAPPY about my failure.... which totally sucked... the comments became more frequent and more blunt. Its sad that as a society we judge people based on their looks/size... and not for their accomplishments and who they are... its a sad reality when you have been on both ends of the scale (literally) and the difference in how society treats you, the skinnier you are, the better you get treated... which is so wrong.... Now i am just babbling on hahhaa you get my drift lol
