    February 2006 bandsters unite!!

Nanster.....I was told I could go see Dr. Spivak at 30 days post-op if I felt like I needed a fill, if not I could wait longer....it was up to me. Right now I feel restriction, but I am not even two weeks out yet...so I am just gonna wait and see how I feel. To get my protein in I usually have a shake in the morning, sometimes followed by one scrambled egg. I also have bought those potted meat spreads..and eat half a can for lunch with something else like yogurt or applesauce. My doctor included fish on my mushies diet, so I have also had some tuna and halibut. I always make sure I eat my protein first before anything else. I am also allowed cooked veggies, so I have included creamed spinach and green bean casserole in my diet. I don't feel like my mushie stage is bland at all. I just make sure everything is very soft and well chewed before going down. I also have been drinking 16 oz of water before every meal, and have had no problems getting in at least 64 oz a day. I am just so thrilled to finally be feeling like being active again. Now I just need to get back to the gym. Yuck....I hate excercising...but always feel good once I go.

    Sept. Samurai Surgery Check-in

Hello...I might be the only canadian in the samurai group! I was banded on wed the 10th... so far so good "ish"...It isnt an easy thing is it .. dont have a particular vice except my newly discovered "hate" on for jello...The diets I read everyones on are quite different I was day one , only ice and day 2-6 clear fluids ...today is day 6 and protien shakes pudding yogurt and creamed soup popcicles and jello are the next 10 days reguime the liquid diet day 17 you start with pureed foods seems alot of you get to that sooner ....After reading some of the post surgury posts about sliming and choking I am ok with going slowly ...lol Its odd my stomach grumbles but I dont think I am hungry persay ... different than how I'd expected things to be...am not in a huge amount of pain .. kids chewable grape tylenol I took the first few days because ( in canada we have T-3's) tylenol with codine and chewing them ...Ya cant NOT gag... they are so bitter .. so the grape things even if I had to chew three almost were a food group lol Its monday morning and I am down 13 lbs? since I checked into the hospital wed ...thats alot not really realistic considering eating jello and only chickenbroth for 4 days ... anyone would lose that banded or not... but? its the beginning of this sojourn... thanks all I enjoy reading your stories.... November Sleevesters?

I was sleeved 11/15 in NJ. I had no nauseau or pain, sore of course, and the gas/reflux was pretty bad (get those Gas X strips!) but that was because they fixed a hiatal hernial. I'm doing really well, so far down about 11 lbs per my scale. I'm eating protein shakes, sf jello & pudding, plain/vanilla yogurt (non fat), I can have milk, oatmeal, pureed veggies, mashed potatos, broth or pureed soup, SF Ice pops, crystal light, tea, water, gatorade etc. The yogurt cup or jello/pudding cup is about a serving for me per meal. I'm doing fine, don't feel overly hungry, my body tells me when I need to eat and I'm listening to it. Supposed to get about 45-60 oz of liquid plus 70-85 g of protein per day.. I feel like all I do is eat and drink trying to get it all in! After 3 weeks of soft/puree foods, then I will move to more of a solid. I'm glad I did it, and I was a nervous wreck! Good luck to everyone having their surgery this week and in the coming weeks. It truly does get better every day.

    July sleevers! Are we ready!

I'm 5'4 tall. highest weight 228 at surgery 222 sleeved on July 22nd ad hit wonderland this morning at 199.4 four weeks after survey. I did hit a stall at week 3 and didn't loose a lb for about 4 days it was also during my cycle and my weight is always off during that time. I was wearing a 16 in all clothing probably getting closer to an 18 and today I am wearing my 14's comfortably. Still having protein shakes every morning with yogurt cheese and jello throughout the day and slowly introducing soft food I'm excited for what's to come best of luck to everyone.

    November Sleevesters?

    - I felt the same way! all liquid all the time - makes me gag. so everyday I add something (I know I'm not supposed to) but I have a yogurt or sf jell or a piece of plain turkey. If not I would scream. I figure three days before surgery (which is this Monday 11/12) I will have nothing but a few shakes; water and clear broth. I can't drink 5 shakes a day - simply can't do it. Other people may be able to, but not me. Good luck everyone!

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

I will go look for them. I thought Walmart carried the Premier clear but they didn’t have any. What’s the best place everyone is finding variety? I bought a ton of yogurt, soups and sugar free pudding. I’m so ready for my next step. I’ve been lucky I guess. Had very little nausea. No vomiting. Just some tightness when I go a little fast. Just some pain in my incisions LOL I have follow up Friday.

2nd/Third - Follow Up Fill Experiences

well i traveled to my fill doctor on tuesday for my second fill. Before the fill I could eat without getting full. what a horrable feeling! so I went in, I already had 1.5cc in and he added .75cc to bring me to 2.25cc in a 4cc band. I am still on liquids till about lunch time (but I did break down and have a yogurt last night after church, I was hungry). I just want to get to onederland before thanks giving. I have a lot of family coming in and want to show them a big healthier differance. Im sure I can get there it is only 24 more pounds! Oh but still having a little trouble with my fills. My first fill they couldnt do becasue they thought my port was flipped over. Then I went to a differant doctor who did it under flouro and after an hour of trouble he told me my port was turned sideways. He layed me down and pushed extremely hard on my portsite to lay it down and then was able to do the fill. Well this time he imediatly had me lay down and said it was still on its side so he still had to push extremely hard to lay it down and then still had problems with the angle and bent the needle but did get it in. He recomends I have the port resutured to my stomach because he said some of the sutures that tie it to the stomach have come undone and I will continue to have problems with my fill. Im not sure if I want to go through with surgery again or put up with a more difficult fills. what would you do if you were in my situation. by the way I am self pay and would have to pay out of pocket to get it done. Look forward to your input!:w00t:
  8. I have 3.2. For those over 3...do you feel very restricted and have to go extremely slow with solids? I am very restricted even with yogurt.

You know you are a bandster when....

When you pack your own Snacks to bring to parties and your friends houses, such snacks include a Water bottle, 3 or 4 crystal light to go packs, your own spoon, and a 6 oz. yogurt that will last you all night. That reminds me! I left my spoon at my friends house last night! Damnit!

    Sept. Samurai Surgery Check-in

I'm so ready for them to go to preschool, because of the "effing threes". I like that. My mom called it the terrible twos, and even worse threes. She helped raise my twin neices. They're 18 now. They were identical. Sounds like you and I both got fraternal. I think you made a good choice. I however have had a bad day. Tomorrow's another day. I ate a lot of doritos. Not in a few minutes, but I was and still am quite uncomfortable. I am angry at myself. I'm tired (don't know if it was the type of food or what), and above all, I'm very disappointed in me. I went thru so much to get the band, and I screw it up? Why???? Because it's been an extremely trying day. Matthew has done nothing but cry (he's the one with CP), Michael is sick, and clingy. I've not had a decent meal all day, because how can one eat a real meal with two 2 yr olds tied to your hips? Seriously calorie wise the doritos probably won't hurt my count, as I had about 3 bites of Breakfast (small small bites of a 70 calorie yogurt), and no lunch. BUT I got no Protein in. I made a horrible food choice. But it's 5:19 pm here... and as of 5 pm, it's on to a new hour... and on to bigger and better things... bigger in fun, better in food choices. Teri

You don't mention if you're taking an acid reducer. If you're not, sometimes excess acid can "feel" like hunger pains. I know when I'm taking my Prilosec, I don't feel that "growly" sensation that I used to think was hunger--since it's not happening when I take my Prilosec, it's clearly acid related, right? I agree with the folks above that planning is going to help you achieve your goals. If you're like me, sometimes you don't know what you're going to feel like eating--so make plans to have a bit of variety and some options but still be within your goals. For instance, you might keep on hand a can of chili, maybe some Soup, some cottage cheese, and some yogurt. Then when you are ready to eat, you can choose from a few appropriate foods. The Protein will help keep you full longer. I eat fruit every day, too, but I find I can't actually eat it with a protein food--the protein needs all the room/working of my stomach to get digested, I guess, so it doesn't like to share with other foods. :-) So I typically will eat my fruit (a cup of citrus or melon total per day) divided into a couple of snack-size portions that I munch on while watching television or playing on the computer. That way, when it's time for a "meal," I eat protein first (and usually only, as I say) but I still get my fruit in, and the protein keeps me from being achingly hungry even while consuming so few calories per day. So if you're not taking an acid reducer, you might talk with your doc about maybe starting one, and also see if moving your fruit to times in between protein meals helps with the hunger issue. Tiff is right, above--fruit is a nutrient-dense food, but it does not have the staying power of protein, and the natural sugar can be problematic for people who are sensitive to even small amounts of sugar. Good luck to you!!

    June 2014 Dates!?

I just got home from the hospital today. Surgery was yesterday at 1pm. It all went well. I have not experienced any issues with gas yet. I feel ok and was ready around 730am to go home but of course didn't get to lol. Slight pain on my stomach but I have been walking anyway. It is not as bad as I was thinking. I am happy and excited now. On full liquids. I already had some cream of wheat and light vanilla yogurt. Mixed together was way better than by itself. Good luck to you all having surgery soon.

    Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

Amen sister! I know you are right, but telling myself that when I'm trying (still!!!!) to get into my favorite pair of jeans isn't working! LOL! I've been meaning to ask you what you are doing to accomplish your great loss? Do you mind sharing your routine and eating habits? You don't have to share every detail, but just a synopsis of how you are doing it would be great. Of course if you have any secrets to weight loss feel free to throw those in as well! HA! I know this is going to sound ridiculous considering why we are all here, but I'm wondering if maybe I'm not eating enough or the right combo of things. There are days when I have a negative number for calories for about half the day because I'm getting so much exercise (I have to log in everything on mydailyplate.com for my PE class). So, my caloric intake might look something like this: Total calories eaten: 1100 Calories Burned: 539 Net Calories: 561 I'm drinking at least 2 liters of Water a day, but try to get in three. I get in all the recommended Protein grams with no probs. I try to eat at least one salad per day and I always get in at least one serving of fruit if not two. I always have at least one yogurt per day. If I have anything like rice, bread, Pasta, etc it is always whole grain or whole wheat. I eat very few "bad" carbs or refined carbs. I almost never eat anything white, i.e. white bread, white rice, white crackers, etc. So what do you guys think? Do you guys think I need to change anything up? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Looking for July Sleevers!

@nursecruz73 That is SO exciting. Wow! I would check with your doc's office and make sure they don't want you to have protein shakes sometimes. My surgeon recommends that I have 3 protein shakes per day, plus unlimited broth, sf jello, sf popsicles and greek yogurt. Two weeks on all liquids!!! Yikes!

    Looking for July Sleevers!

I had my procedure on Thursday and I am doing fabulous. I went shopping today to hit the July sales and suggest a lot of walking right after to rid yourself of Co2 right away. I am healing still and taking it easy. I'm holding down 8 oz of protein and water at a time and have no nausea. I fell lucky a little tired and still a little pain. good luck keep us posted, I did make the mistake of trying frozen yogurt that will not happen again until my recovery is complete.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

My nutritionist has me starting eating things like scrambled eggs, canned chicken or tuna with very little light mayo to moisten it so it won’t get stuck going down while swallowing. I can eat lean ground beef, thin sliced deli roast beef and turkey, shrimp, cottage cheese, yogurt some cooked vegetables. I still need at least one protein drink included in my day. My nutritionist stated I have to introduce these foods slowly to determine if my new stomach can digest these food. She some patients find out that the foods they ate before surgery find out they are unable to eat afterwards. I am so excited to start transitioning to textured foods but nervous at the same time that my new stomach will handle it now. Wishing all my fellow November Surgery Buddies who are transitioning to the next phase of your diet plan. What do you all think of changing our group name from “November Surgery Buddies” to “2021 November Surgery Warriors” I believe this group we are all warriors from our decision making, preparing or already has their gastric bariatric surgery as well as joining BariatricPal for support. I will understand if no one wants to change the groups name. I just wanted to bring it up as a suggestion. Reading these posts and seeing how much all of support each other made me look at how much we have a lot of strength and are uplifting thoughts for each other. It reminds me that we are warriors of battling our challenges together.
  18. I've been using plain Greek yogurt in place of sour cream. I'd always heard about doing that but couldn't bear to try it. Well, now post surgery I'm doing it and it's really not bad. It has a similar sour-ish taste but of course more health benefits.
  19. It certainly seems slow to me! lol But the creamy soup is the only other liquid I can have. I can't have yogurt or anything else.
  20. Had my post op appointment today. They said everything was great! I have some weirdness from having a surgery like toe numbness- but they didn’t think it was from this surgery specifically and may be from laying on the table weird or whatever. They prescribed some b1 vitamins in case it is due to a vitamin deficiency. I am down 17lbs since day of surgery, 29lbs down from when I got home from the hospital. Has anyone else not been given a goal weight? I forgot to ask if they had one for me. Personal goal would be 170lbs (which is probably still overweight for my height!). I can have cottage cheese, yogurt, ricotta, and eggs starting tomorrow. I just made up some egg salad and had a teeny taste and can’t wait for my teeny tiny teaspoon of it tomorrow!!! 😬😬😬

    Any March Sleevers?

I'm eating mostly yogurt and cottage cheese since I barfed on tuna (1/4 cup blenderized with nayo). I figured an extra week on semi-liquids wouldn't hurt. I eat 1/4-1/2 cup cottage cheese. Well, at the begining of the week 1/4 cup was all I could do but now I can do 1/2 if its liquidy. Ive also been doing 6 oz cup of greek yogurt 0%. That goes down very easy. I tried a 1/2 cup of lentil soup with 1oz of goat cheese. It went down fine but just didnt float my boat taste wise (mostly water). Hummus goes down fine but gives me heartburn. I need some help menu wise to start getting in more fiber. I am on mushies/soft foods until my next appointment.

    Any March Sleevers?

Yeah I can eat the "soft" diet now which includes fish, chicken, eggs, and pasta. But im eating VERY small amounts VERY slowly. I have, however, decided to try to eat mostly soups and yogurt for a little while longer. I haven't had any pains or anything though other than that one time w the chicken from eating it too fast.

How was your 5:2 day today?

yesterday I ate a baguette and some yogurt. Today I ate a protein shake (milk), coffee, an almond snickers, a bag of pretzel M&Ms. I had to actively stop myself from sticking a finger down my throat and bringing up that candy.

How was your 5:2 day today?

M2G, have you ever looked up the calories burned running errands? It's more than you think, don't beat yourself up. I made paleo muffins today, pumpkin spice using coconut flour! Pumpkin puree (made mine from scratch) Coconut flour ( wow you really only need the teeniest bit), eggs, honey, salt, baking soda and the spices, that's it! I jazzed them up with a bit of shaved dark chocolate and if you really wanted to go all the way there is a frosting (greek yogurt whipped with maple syrup). All in all, it is a low glycemic, non-inflammatory, high fiber, good protein snack that I can feel good about. Also, they are so packed with real whole foods that they are incredibly filling and satisfying and keep away the "need" to mindlessly gorge. thumbs up! I got the recipe from Comfybelly, in case anyone is curious, it is a site dedicated to eating without grains, particularly wheat.
