    Putting Self First Again

I have found with the more weight I have lost I have so much more energy. I have more energy to do things with my kids. They were commenting to me this summer they thought it was so awesome I was going on bike rides with them and I was keeping up with them. I need to get my exercise in as a priority. I am saying with weightloss I don't tire out as fast any more. I am excited to be part if my kids lives nit watching them out the window!

I feel like I am a slow loser!

I agree! the scale stopped moving for me and i'm 7weeks out, i lost fast the first 3 weeks and its the same weight for me now. But all my clothes are loose, i get teased at work I need to get new ones. I bought my first size Large top, and I used to wear 2xl. I can fit 14/16 and i used to wear 20 pants. So I guess, the weighing scale doesn't really tell the whole story. Although it would be nice to see it go down, ill take non scale victories too!

I feel like I am a slow loser!

I am sure the weight gain from being re-hospitalized for the pancreatitis is from the IV fluids they pump you full of. And yes, there is a week 3 stall, pretty much everybody goes through it. Just stick with the program, keep doing what you are doing and it will work...I promise!

I feel like I am a slow loser!

Do a search for "week 3 stall" on the forums and you'll see that pretty much everyone has experienced a stall around... well... week 3. It's totally normal and as long as you stick to what you're supposed to do, this too shall pass. Stalls are a part of the weight loss process and nothing to worry about. With as little caloric intake as we get, especially immediately after surgery, losing weight isn't really an option.

I feel like I am a slow loser!

The weight gain is from the Iv fluids
  6. Thanks for answering! I am following the program but I was constipated too and went to the ER and gain some weight without eating anything!,, I think it was something that they put on my IV that has a lot of proteins and vitamins ( they call it the bariatric fluid) . I will be more patient!!! Thanks

    Am I the only one?

I was banded on Aug 6th and have done well with my weight loss (23 lb) and have not needed a fill..yet. I have noticed over the last week I am drinking more water but I am also hungrier than I was before. I am eating 1/2 cup per meal and feel full. I eat 3 times a day and eat high protein, low carb. I do not drink with meals and wait 30-60 min after eating to drink fluids. Is the water causing my food to slide through faster? Do I need a fill? Or is it a combination of both? What to do, what to do..
  8. Sugar does turn to fat and so does carb, if you try using stevia or the natural sweeteners you can avoid some of the bad rap associated with asperitame (headaches, depression & possible infertility-I haven't seen the studies on the infertility but someone mentioned it). I don't believe that sweeteners just make your body crave more, I use some sweetener in certain teas and in protein cookie/brownie baking. I'd rather be eating less calories and forcing my body to burn it's own fat than creating carb and sugar calories for it to burn first, faster weight loss = a happier me.

    Need goals

Is there a trainer at your gym you can talk with? Maybe you could take a fitness test with them and they could help you establish a routine to help you meet some goal with weights, flexibility, pull-ups, those crunches where you swing your legs up, etc. and then you can re-test in about 3 months. I totally understand the need for a goal. Good luck!

    Any Singers Out There?

I have found mt breath control to be improving. My voice is now effected by coffee as well. I find when I drink coffee my vocal chords are tight, and control is out the window. I used to be an avid Diet coke drinker, and never experienced this. No more coffee on Sunday mornings...or any other day for me What will they take next??!! (I hope my fat!) Hang in there, Leona, you will gain the control you again desire as you learn to work with your improving body. You capacity will be trained again on strength and flow. Continue to practice, but as always, don't over do it. Do you still have your breathing ball-float 'machine' from the hospital? I continued to use that to guage control and intake.
  11. I'm grateful to you as well. Although I was never banded I understand the ups and downs you encountered. I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my dad this year as well and I too drank a lot, granted it was before my sleeve but I did gain quite a bit of weight due to the stress of it all. I am just 17 days post op and started solid foods this week. I am not doing as we'll as I thought I would. My life is so rush rush that I know I am eating too fast and I get that awful pain between my shoulder blades. It comes on before I realize I am full. I need to learn to slow down. I have lost 26 lbs so far so I'm happy for that. I can't wait to be a size 8. It's been since high school that I was that size!! Thank you again for sharing your story. It's wonderful to hear about the sleeve veterans experiences. God bless!!!

    Dazed and Confused!!

You actually need between 1000 and 1200 calories to lose weight. You won't lose weight at 800-1000 because your body is going into starvation mode. It's like what malnourished children in 3rd world countries experience.
  13. Anyone? Anyone? This is not just about weight loss surgery. I have been to a local surgical center for several procedures. Each time I am handed a sheet with the cost of the procedures and, in the next column, my insurance company's negotiated price. I obediently pay my percentage of that, then look at the original numbers in disbelief. For an operation that the facilty charges the uninsured $20,000, insurance (and I) anted up $7000. Another time it was $9500/$1700. These places actively court the insured, so they must make money on these payments. I know there is very little discount for self-pays, as a friend had a similar spinal procedure and paid close to the full price quoted me. The statements for doctor fees...surgeons, GP's, and specialists..show a similar range. Wouldn't you think cash payers would get more of a discount? Wouldn't we be able to afford to offer health care to more people if we were able to pay a larger percentage of the much lower amounts before insurance kicked in? It boggles the mind.

    nervous and discouraged

I know the feeling. On the liquid diet my scale was moving everyday. It has now just stopped. I know that I am suppose to be healing and that its not a miracle thing and its going to take time... but ive been fat my whole life, I want to see those pounds dropping! Dont let it bother you, just eat right and do what you are doing. Can you work out yet? I know I am not ready, but I cant wait till I am it will help with the weight loss!

    nervous and discouraged

vlp1968 you could not be more right about weighing myself everyday! That has always been a bad habit of mine. it didn't take me a week to gain it, so I shouldn't expect to lose it so fast! Thank you for your words of encouragment. I need that today.
  16. Congrats....I have been in a stall for this past week, stuck at 188. After having a great meeting with the nutritionist for my 6 week followup and she documented an average of 4.5 lbs a week and now nothing. But I have not gained and hopefully the weather will warm up so I can get out and walk some more.
  17. Went for check up today and Dr. said I was clear to do whatever I felt like no restrictions even go back to work. I am an RN so I have a 50lb weight requirement and he said go back whenever I thought I was ready he would sign the paper. Nice. I think I will stay off for the next 4 weeks just to use up some of my sick bank time!!!!! I started out at 265lbs on surgery day (I'm only 5'4") down to 254 today!!!

    Confused!

My nut said I should be eating 1000 calories a day and at least 60 grams of protein. Well I have been doing that from the beginning, and have been loosing up until 2 weeks ago. I have not lost anything! I haven't changed anything along with working out 4-5 times a week. Out of frustration, I looked online to see how many calories I should be eating a day to reach my goal weight. It stated I should be eating 1700 calories and 97 grams of protein with the amount of exercising I am doing. Also, that weight loss will happen in the beginning but then my body will eventually go into starvation mode and I will not loose anymore. Which I am wondering what is happening now? Is it possible that I am in starvation mode and unable to loose weight? I know the band is a tool and I use it as if it is. But honestly, without snacking in between meals, how can I get 1700 calories in a day and eat healthy?
  19. Hi All, I just wanted to share that I am 4 months out and am definately noticing the change in my body. Yesterday I pulled out of my closet 2 shirts that I wore around the winter time, they were so big I had to give them away. My home scale shows another 7 pound lost, BUT I want to wait till it's official on my doctors scale. My doctor's office sees me every 7-8 weeks so my next visit is the middle of August, I will record my weight loss then. I'm currently at 1.85cc after my second fill and I don't think I need another adjustment, but we will see what he says.

    Confused!

Hey i would say your only plateaued for 2 weeks. thats not bad id stick with what your doing and give it like another week or 2.. and if your doing 1000 cals a day id switch it up.. one day take in like 1200 and another 900. and switch up your diet a lil dont eat the same foods allthe time. you dont need to consume too much more to get out of starvation mode just by eating at different tmes during the day and fluctuating the amount of calories you take in a day should help to kick start it again.. also when you work out you doo gain muscle soo your body might be adjusting to that now. but its good cause ur loosing inches maybe not the scale,.. def give it some more time. goodluck!

    Confused!

The calorie/protein count seems a bit high. You really should contact your nutritionist or surgeon. Everyone's needs are different, based on their weight and activity level. It is very normal for your weight loss to plateau, and I don't believe your body is in starvation mode if you are eating the proper amount of Protein. Be patient, and stick to yout nut's guidlines. Good luck!

    Weight gain

Surgery in May. Doing well. Lost 55 pounds so far!!! Been at a stall for a couple weeks- so I tried extra hard to get in my Protein and fluids and I've gained almost 3 pounds. I trying not to flip out. Curious if anyone can relate? Thank you Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. This is to those of you how have done this already. I'll give hard numbers so it makes sense I hope. My surgery was two weeks ago tomorrow. The morning I went in I weighed 143. I don't know how much he took (I'd guess 6 pounds, I forgot to ask). Today I weight 144! I know I'm getting NO exercise, obviously, but I'm also being very careful about what I eat. I'm eating less than pre surgery to try to balance the lack of calorie use. I know once I can start even walking things will get back on track, but is this normal? Is this fluid? I have one drain still in, but it has finally stopped much output so it will be removed Tuesday. FYI, I feel like the weight is going to my thighs. Is this some weird head game I'm playing on myself, is this normal, did you guys go through this as well? I'm torn between eating to recover and not eating to take the weight off! Help!
  24. The last few days I have been extremely depressed. I am not sure why. All I want to do is sleep. Today I started feeling sick (sore throat, congestion), so not sure if that is part of the tiredness. I have bad dreams, some about people that aren't in my life anymore, that meant a lot to me, and then I wake up so sad and I can't get out of the funk all day. I have been crying just out of nowhere too. The last 2 days I have been walking almost 2 miles, and then come home and just sleep. I have been on Lexapro for years for depression and it has helped. It just seems like it does nothing now. I am only on 5 mg. Maybe I should go to the dr. and have him increase it? I am 12 weeks out now. I was kind of depressed the first few weeks, but then it got better, and now its way worse. I am on my period too, and its still getting back to normal, so maybe that is part of it too. I have been losing weight pretty fast, I guess, (70 pounds in 12 weeks) but I have 204 pounds total to lose. Can losing quickly cause depression? Or do you guys think its just everything combined? I also don't have a job and have been having so much trouble finding one, and its really been bothering me a lot lately. Maybe it will just get better on its own with time?
