    Exercise

Every surgeon is different. after 10 days my doctor told me there was no physical activity i could do that would damage what he did to my stomach, only being sore could hold me back. Well it didnt and i started crossfit on day 11 and havent stopped with zero issues. But thats just me. Everyone is different.

    New here, constant nausea

@@HisMrsWright Nausea is common - but your surgeon should be treating you for it!!! I've been on Zofran since I got home and told to keep taking (surgery 10/18/16). You won't be able to stay hydrated or get your Protein if you continue to be nauseous. Ask your Dr for a prescription - it will help a lot and you will feel so much better physically and emotionally. If you're on something that isn't working - ask him to change it to something else. There's no need to have nausea! Good luck! Kristen
  3. Taking my own advice - Hold myself accountable. Surgery 10/2020, HW somewhere in the 280's. Low weight 165 ... Current weight 175.... Why? Here's why... Last day tracked January 19th Last regular/daily tracking November 2021 Last day registered weighing - January (I still do weigh almost daily though) Eating/drinking (including alcohol) whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted - "Justified" it by telling myself "It's ok, I can't eat that much of whatever... and I'm drinking low calorie alcohol. All of this equals close to 10lb overall gain in a fairly short period of time. Failing to address it now will simply put me back where I started. If you've been at all successful in this journey, you know what works and what doesn't - Don't lie to yourself and pretend everything is fine and end up with a 20lb gain - Mentally 5 was my threshold and we see how that worked out. For me at least, I don't want to feel ashamed that I worked so hard only to fail in the long run. Today, back on track, I have no doubt that I will fall off the wagon again, but hey... it's a marathon, not a sprint. I WILL track food and drink - even if it's not something on my plan. I WON'T lie to myself. I'll set realistic/attainable goals. I WON'T do anything drastic (for me) like liquids only for x number of days - It isn't sustainable and results with me doing stupid things.

    Fruit smoothie made with water

You can definitely count them towards your fluid goal - I like to have my spinach blended in, so many times I would have shaked with or without protein. I make them with half a cup of milk, half a cup of water and about 4 ice cubes along with some blueberries, spinach +/- protein powder. So I would input about 10 to 11 ounces of this blended smoothie towards my fluid goal and also input milk, blueberries, spinach and protein powder in my food log. When I am usually on a tight schedule and can't manage to have solid foods, doing so helps me meet my protein goals and even my fluid goal. And like someone pointed out, even my program has half and half when it comes to 64 ounces of fluid. At least half of it should come from plain or flavorer water and rest can come from other alternatives!

    PCOS

I am just coming up on 10 months post op and have lost about 73lbs. I've dealt with PCOS, Endometriosis, Adenomyosis, Insulin Resistance, migraines, etc. all my life. 10 years ago I was put on Metformin to help with those issues. Especially my PCOS, IR and it worked wonders for those things (and made my migraines disappear too). The Metformin kept me regular all those years, lessened my periods in days and volume, helped my cramps, etc. However, since getting the surgery I had my Metformin cut in half and I "think", I may be taken off of it all together eventually. But I have to say that since my dose was cut in half my periods have been heavier, come late/sporadically, stay super long, etc. REGARDLESS of the surgery. So, I don't know that surgery helped ME with those issues. But it has helped with my high BP and I am almost off of that medication too. I never dealt with acanthosis nigricans so I can't offer any info on that.

    2 ?'s

Queen, my veins weren't that bad before surgery. I did have one bruised vein area on top of foot (about 50 cent piece size) where it joins the ankle that had previously given me a lot of pain. It hurt a lot, and would feel like it was going to pop open when I first started walking and hurt so bad. But it doesn't hurt at all now. It's since reduced to about a 10 cent size piece and is much, much lighter in color. I'm exercising (bicyling) pretty regularly and previously did nil.

Oh, and guess what the dr. recommends .... WATER (and exercise). Is there anything water doesn't help? Also, he advised wearing 10 - 20 mmhg compression hose as great preventatives - every day.

    Hives

I am so happy for me to see this message... So unhappy for you. I am on Day 10. I have hives as of yesterday. WANT TO DIE. Also on Lovenox blood thinner shots daily. They gave me one script Hydroxyzine for the anti itch. Problem is one dose outs me down for 12 hours! I got up for work and couldn't drive. I am basically trying to go back to my old diet which I know didn't cause hives. Stopping all Vitamins and meds except Prilosec and Lovenox. I don't have a choice for the blood thinners. How are you doing?

    Mexican Lasagna

Ok, Im not sleeved yet. But love to cook and experiment. I found if you soak wonton wrappers for a few minutes they make a perfect sub for lasagna pasta. I made this a couple nights ago: 1lb ground chicken or turkey 8 wonton wraps 3/4 cup ff cheese (I used jalapeno jack) 1 10oz can enchalada sauce 1/4 cup chopped onion 1 chopped jalapeno (cored) 1/4 cup chopped cilantro 1 small avacado Plain greek yogurt Preheat oben to 375. Brown meat (drain if needed) add onions, jalapeno and cilantro and 1/2 of the enchalada sauce. Soak wontons in a bowl of water while this cooks for about 10 mins. Spray small baking dish w/ nonstick spray. (I used a small 6x6) Carefully layer bottom with 4 wontons with slight overlap. Add a layer of meat mixture, sprinkle with cheese, repeat. Top off with remaining sauce and cheese Bake in oven approx 20 min or until cheese is bubbly and beginning to brown. Top with small amount chopped avacado and a dab of plain greek yogurt. This makes 4 servings for nonsleeved folk. With ground chicken: 278 cal, 28 protein (this is calced with a nonsleeve serving) Sorry no pic..it was a pretty dish and very good..but my son left nothing for the camera. : /

    Not losing

http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/351046-embrace-the-stall/ Your body is still traumatized and pumped full of fluids and meds from surgery and usually you're lucky not to gain weight within the first week to 10 days. And the first stall usually hits around your third week. Your body has to take pauses every once in a while. No one loses weight steadily. Think of it as it needing a small rest break while it figures out whether this lower calorie/low carb thing is going to be permanent... it is? Well okay, guess we'll drop another few pounds and see what you're doing then. Still low cal/carb and adding in exercise? Well maybe it's time to build a bit of muscle and drop some fat so you won't see the numbers on the scale drop but you'll notice the difference in your clothing since a fat is way more bulky than lean muscle. Rinse and repeat for the next year with varying lengths of time spend in stalls. You'll be fine. Do read Inner Surfer Girl's post about Embracing the Stall and it will all make sense.

    Weekly weigh in!

Robinski, great luck to you! I hope your new workout with be fabulous! I guess I have to get the 4 year old to do 2 walks up the hill a day with me! Or chase her around the yard like a crazy lady! I know my depression and anxiety is horrible right now, so I have zero motivation. Thats why I was to be in Onderland at 199 by 2/18/18, which is my 45th Birthday! What a great gift that will be! I have to admit, if it wasnt for my totally awesome family, my totally awesome friends, and my totally awesome fellow church members, and even the people on here, my biggest inspirations, my biggest cheerleaders and my biggest support system, I never would have made it this far! Not big enough?

Yes my dr said the same thing on my very first visit, he said lose 5-10% before surgery, I asked about that because I'm right on the line for the BMI requirement and he said, that does not matter, the insurance goes by today's weight.
  15. Has anyone tryed the Bikini ready Protein shakes? The carb count is low and I just got a good look at the label so is the protein it is only 10 grams of protein.

    Why Is It..??

That now that I have reached my first goal... Why does a size 10 not look like a size 10 I thought would look on me? Weird! I know I bought a 10 because thats what the jeans say but my brain and eyes dont see a 10? Does this change?

    Why Is It..??

short answer - no, probably not! At seven years out, I am not happy with a size 8 (I'm five feet 10) and keep striving for those moments where I briefly fit into a size 6. I think my ass is big, I hate my saddlebags, I'm fretting over baring my winter flabby white body in a bikini in Thailand in three weeks time, I have cellulite on my thighs, ....... Need I go on? Everyday is still a diet for me - I get up, plan to be good, fail to be as good as I planned! Yet obviously as I maintain 145lb give or take, I'm doing what I need to. Its so weird. On the one hand I am ecstatic with having lost 120lb and kept it off for seven years. On the other, I'm just as unhappy with my body as I ever was. I have accepted that I am nuts and will never overcome this particular issue. A lifetime of weight battles leaves its legacy.
  18. My surgery was 1/10/12, and my diet currently is full liquids. My concern is that the 17th, this past Tuesday, I was so full all the time, it would take me 1 hour to drink my 4 oz of broth, but all of a sudden on Wednesday I can drink and drink no problem. I know in my head its not possible I have stretched my sleeve, but is this normal?

    So far so good

Ya I’m down to 265 right now and according to surgeon am prob carrying 10 to 15 pounds of skin so in reality I’m about 250 ish so I’m thinking 15 more pounds of loss and I’ll be good. Best thing is I feel great now and should only get better so I really could live with where I’m at now and be fine.

    Picky eater

its scary, but scarier to remain obese (for me). i knew i was facing an early death if i didnt do something drastic very quickly. everyone here, who wants to be successful, has to change how he or she eats. very dramatically. those who are able to stick with the changes long term have success. those who dont regain and end up back where they started. its a choice. thats where the big girl panties come in. you get to make your mind up each day if you want to be successful at this or not. my H LOVED his processed carbs and sugar more than life itself. bagels, Cookies, pizza, Pasta, soda pop, candy, donuts, pop tarts, tortillas, burgers on buns... it was all he lived for! ... then after 10 years of doctor visits... specialists, meds, tests, allergy diets, etc... he finally made up his mind that yes, wheat was making him sick and he was going to stop eating it. its been a long struggle over the last year, but he's doing much better and doest miss everything as much as he thought he would. if he can do it, anyone can, cause i never saw anyone so devoted to certain foods... it was like they were his best friends he needed to visit every day! look on amazon, i bet there are some good books there on overcoming pickiness and making dietary changes.
  21. For the last 10 years, I've been on the hot side, daring my husband to turn on the furnace in the winter and freezing out my secretary at work. Since VSG, my how the table has turned! Here in the tropics with the air turned to "meat locker," I actually have to keep a sweater on the back of my chair at work and wrap up in it when I start to shiver. Paybacks HAVE been hell. Am I the only one?

Am I Crazy For Wanting Lap Band Surgery?

That's a great point emonie. My wife the healthcare professional and lapband skeptic, has lost 10 lbs since I entered the green zone. She's a believer now so that's a great point that we can influence others with our good eating habits. tmf
