I hope to be banded in February. Because of potential fatty liver of his patients, my surgeon requires 10 days of 1000 calorie or less diet then 2 days of a liquid diet prior to the surgery. Although, really I don't think I would mind a longer liquid diet. Many of my so called "successful" weight loss attempts were long term liquid - usually water only - fasts. But then, to no one's surprise the weight all came back on. So, now I am here.

Hey there.. I also had this pain and was told the same thing that I had pulled out one of my internal stitches.. but I am over 7 months out now and no pain.. the only thing now is when I am standing my port sticks out due to the weight loss. I was told that it's ok to lose a stitch and after awhile your body naturally heals itself around your port. I wouldn't worry. I hope that helps!

twoboysandagirl replied to laylasmojo's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Tomorrow I am two weeks out. My surgeon requires a two day pre op diet of liquids only but I also had to loose ten % of excess weight before they would make a date. I have lost that and trying to lose a little more. Curious what was your two week diet? I am kind of doing a low carb/sugar, low fat, high protein diet. Some days I have just done protien shakes for morning or lunch and just a regular dinner. Congrats on your success! Your doing Great! -

It's definitely a change! I feel like a whole new person actually. I am part of multiple weight loss forums and post frequently to them, that's why I post links to my blog. It is too tedious to type out everything 3 different times PLUS on my blog. If you need help navigating to anything else, let me know. Dig around the blog and thank you so much for reading.

Hey everyone! It's been a few weeks since I've been on here, I've officially had the worlds craziest work month (the life of a nurse.) Anyway, I was banded on 7/25/12 and I'm feeling really great. Just had my 2nd fill yesterday, so I now have a total of 7cc in my band. I'm feeling so close to my "sweet spot", Dr. Thinks my next fill should really work wonders. Yeah! I haven't weighed myself since 2 days before my last fill, in which I actually did 2 days of clear liquids& Protein shakes prior to the fill and I'm going to do an extra2 days of it as well...sooo a total of 7 days of stage 1. I feel that its jumpstarting my diet again. My last weigh in at the doctors I was 209/210 (myscale said 209, his said 210) which was on the 20th. I've given myself a challenge. I told myself I want.to be out of the 200s by Oct. 1st, and its driving me nuts that I am not weighing myself everyday BUT guys, its so much better this way! I feel like I'm losing, I've been exercising everyday and burning a good amount of calories and my diet is awesome. Please please please pray that this can happen!! Even if the scale reads 201/200 on Oct 1st, I'll still feel great. I will update you guys on that day. I hope you're all doing well, I'm so grateful on my weight loss journey so far! Thanks!!!!XOXO -Melissa M.

I was actually thinking about this today and was struggling with whether I should be more open about it. I have had quite a few people ask me about weight loss and my standard answer is I spend more time in the gym and less in the kitchen. This is the truth but really there is so much more to it. I know we have to do the work but it is SO much easier now than it ever was before. My hesitation to tell others was more out of a fear that it might not work and I would be judged for failing even with surgery. I still have that fear that it can't last. It never has before so how can this be forever? Hopefully as time goes on I will be able to accept it as a permanent solution. Maybe I need to go back home today and throw out those "fat" clothes I put in the attic last week.

Uh Ohhhh A little worried
Rootman replied to Dud2Stud's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well 2 guys who worked at the site where I had mine done both said they went hog wild the EVENING before their surgery and they lived to tell about it. Nachos, buffalo wings and tequila shots, YIKES! They said they got real sick but didn't define it exactly and I was reluctant to listen to the gory details as my own post-op tummy wasn't up to hearing about it. I would be very concerned about post-op constipation too, having your gut packed with waste when anesthesia sometimes hangs up the colon might be pretty painful. Whatever you do fess up to it and take the consequences. Better safe than sorry. BTW: I was on liquid diet for 10 days, just wanted to make it as easy as possible and wanted to jump start the weight loss. -
How long has your three week stall lasted?
DropWt4Life replied to Kasparkles's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had 2 stalls...One at 3 weeks, and one at 6 weeks. Each time, I slowly increased my calorie count, and the stall broke. I am at 850-1,000 calories now and losing about 2-3 pounds per week on average. Stalls suck, I know. However, this is a chance for your body to catch up with all of the physical and hormonal changes you have gone through. Keep doing what you are doing and the stall will eventually break. In the meantime, you should still be losing inches. Also, stay off of the scale if it helps. That evil thing has caused me to binge on many occasions pre-surgery. Two or three weeks of staying the same weight or gaining weight can reek havoc on your mindset. Stay strong my friends. -
Counting Calories - Help
flowers replied to justme2u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I try and aim for around a average of 1200 too. Up the Protein, you have to fuel that weight loss. Maybe your body is just catching up to the 18 lbs you lost really fast. I joined sparks people and you can track food on there and your other goals. Its also free. Many places to track calories. Sparks people has everything in one place. -
Hope you are all doing well. Before I got my last fill of .5cc I had 10cc. I was able to eat pretty much anything in moderation. I hardly exercised due to my busy schedule. Now that I'm at 10.5cc I can eat much more, I'm also feeling more hungry. I also started exercising more. To my surprise I have gained 5 lbs. WHAT GIVES!!!! Has this happened to anybody? I go in for another fill on the 16th. Even though I'm able to eat more I cannot eat certain foods because they are starting to get stuck more frequently. I'm feeling confused. Advise would be greatly appreciated.

So, I had my first appointment with the Dr. for my follow-up. It went GREAT, the scale at home has been lying to me and I am actually down 13 lbs. Part of me wants to just go nuts and work harder at losing as much as fast as I can, but knowing that if I decided to move to fast I stand the possibility of looking like a shar-pei puppy is really saying to me that I need to just take it slow and easy as it comes. I came across some yummy protein powder at my local GNC, its a local product and I have to say it reminds me more of a nice milkshake than a 50 gram of protein in it ! Needless to say I have a full jug of the stuff and plan on using it once daily from now on! Other than that, life is good. I had to maintain my weight in order to be okayed for surgery through my insurance so I am writing off the 13 lbs that I have lost as my padding for the approval weight. My hubby has dropped some weight too which makes him happy, nothing like your wife not cooking anymore and restricting your calories to make a huge change in his lifestyle as well.

Lol! my hubby has lost weight too! I quit cooking all those goodies, and he dropped too! lol! Keep up the good work!

Well, for the longest time that was one of the only places besides Avenue that I could buy clothes I could fit into. Besides Kmart who had a great plus sized selection. I'm so glad I'm not plus sized anymore and shop on the regular side of the store (notice how they have it all separated in stores so you felt all horrible going to the plus side?) Guess I couldn't have picked a better time to finally loose the weight.

Thank you for the update Frank. I'm glad that you have mostly excellent news to report. Good job on the weight loss so far...it's great what the sleeve helps us do so quickly.

I got the lap band in 2009, and was successful in that I lost 129 lbs with it within the 18 mo. time frame and kept the majority of it off for many years. In April of this year, I felt I better go in and get a check-up to make sure everything is in order because I felt like I was hungry more often. The new doctor felt it was time for me to do a sleeve revision, told me that I have a dilated pouch. I had that once before years ago, and had to go 3 months with only half my Fluid to let my esophagus "rest". I dreaded to be unfilled again because I always gained some weight back, and I had to work twice as hard to get it off again. I couldn't talk them into not unfilling me hehe, so I said I'll go for the revision. I had my revision on Sept. 2, 2016, and am thrilled at the way I feel. No slimming, no painful pressure in the center of my chest... All those things one gets used to having the band all those years. I love it, and although I'm hungry during the liquid phase, it's not that bad at all. Lost 11 lbs in the last couple of weeks but I am prepared for the slower pace. As long as I'm losing, I'm happy with that. Good luck all, and hope you are as happy (or will be as happy) as I am with my new sleeve.

Kaiser Sacramento PCP won't consider referring me for WLS
laceemouse replied to khoktzen's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If one co-morbidity would get you approved then go ahead and ask for the sleep study. Do you plan to have more children? I hate to say it but honestly I would probably get done with having kids before WLS if it were me, unless my weight was making it impossible for me to conceive or have a healthy pregnancy but they doesn't seem like the case with you. I had 4 kids in 6 years back in the '90's. I was normal weight when I started, I gained a lot the first pregnancy but not nearly as much the other 3 times. Every time I was a higher starting weight and never got all the pregnancy weight off. I was starving when I was pregnant and starving when I was nursing (basically, I was starving the entire decade!) I was never heavy enough in those days, or had any other health problems, so I didn't even consider WLS. I was mildly successful with Weight Watchers a couple of times but always gained it back. I know many people go on to have healthy pregnancies after WLS but I would be so concerned about getting enough nutrition without gaining too much. I know someone pregnant with twins after WLS and she is struggling to get enough calories in to ensure a healthy pregnancy. Just something to think about. Also, when I was born my brothers were teens and my sister was 9. I love them but honestly feel like we aren't even in the same family. My kids are all close in age and best friends with each other. I wouldn't have it any other way personally! After WLS you should wait at least a year to get pregnant, keep that in mind as well. How much of a gap in age do you want between your kids (assuming you want more)? I do have to say my PCP is not in favor of me having WLS. Thankfully with BCBS Texas she doesn't have to be! If I don't get approved for some reason I will consider self pay, maybe even Mexico. Have you looked into other options? Anyway, just my two cents. -
How do i break through a stall?!
joatsaint replied to Jenny L's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't have enough proof that this works, but here's what I try when I want to break a stall. High Intensity Training - giving maximum effort for a short period of time. My exercise routine only consists of walking, but at work, I have access to the stairwells. I try to climb 5 flights of stairs as fast as I safety can. My best time has been 1 min 26 seconds. My lungs and legs are burning by the 3rd flight and I take a 10 second break at the 3rd and 4th floor. If you are doing the same exercise routine, eventually your body is going to become more efficient at it. If your weight program consists mainly of free weights, try alternating with weight machines that force your muscles to work in a different way. If you're on the elliptical, pick a program that changes up the one you're used to. Alternate speeds, add in inclines or switch off to a Stair Master for a few exercise sessions. When I used to do the elliptical, I set up my music playlist to have one really fast, motivating song ( like Motley Crew's "Kick Start My Heart") every 4th song, and I would go all out for the duration of that song, then slow back down to my normal pace. Keep up the good work, you'll get there. -
How do i break through a stall?!
JeanZ_RN replied to Jenny L's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Here's something I copied from ButterTheBean (a veteran sleever): If your weight loss has stalled, read THIS. I was stalled for 6 weeks - Feb 1st to mid March - and what broke it was the "change it up" plan. I had been eating very low carb, but I had gradually increased to having a Quest Protein bar for most of my meals, and I wasn't exercising because I hate it. So I relaxed on the carb restriction for a week or so, then went back to very low carb with max of 1 Protein Bar per day, and I increased the amount I was walking. That finally did it. Best wishes! -
