I'm freaking HUNGRYYYY! Eeerrrrgggg!
Lifestylechange45 replied to SiSSi829's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the lapband and had an revision on June 14th. I have been on a liquid diet two weeks before surgery and it will be July 29th before I am off. It's hard but I'm so scared that I will get a leak. I can drink up to 5 Protein shakes a day. You can even have chicken broth and as many sugar free Popsicles as you like. Just stay strong it will be over sooner than later. Took a deep breath and the step: Made an appt with my practice to determine the state of my band and what comes next. I'm open to sleeve, but need to learn more to get past my own bias against it. This is a tad premature, as I don't know yet whether my insurance covers revision.

I am now looking into revision surgery to bypass at the Bariatric Care Center in Akron OH. Im pretty new to this site....so please be patient as Im still learning how this works. Looking into revision surgery from sleeve to bypass....
-
I hope that will be a very good thing for you - what's going on to prompt it - everything ok?
-
I had a sleeve in 2012 and after losing 100# my husband and I separated, i moved out of state, and since then have gained back most of what I had lost. Now I have 2 really bad knees (Both have been replaced but one is falling apart) and bulging discs in my back. I HAVE to get this eating under control so I can be around for my granddaughters. I had to wait until my divorce was final and i got insurance....so now I have just sent off the paperwork to a Bariatric Center close to me. On a good note......this group has a wonderful support system....something that wasnt available at my last surgeons center.

Yeah, this is me in the Caribbean for the first time. Im currently looking into revision surgery as soon as my divorce is final in May 2016. -
Protonix liquid is NASTY it tastes like I would imagine dirty sweat socks would taste. Omeprazole and others come in a capsule that you can open up and sprinkle the contents into a spoonful of Water, low cal juice or applesauce. That's how I took mine after my VSG and will take mine now after my revision to RNY because of acid Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Biggest change or challenge from band to sleeve ?
NeedaBreak4Me replied to iamjohnbamber's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi... i hope you are recovering well. I was revised from band to sleeve... and the difference is like night and day. When i had my band removed i did have a "phantom" band for a few weeks... but once that subsided my tummy was like my pre band tummy... normal. Now that i am sleeved and healed... it just feels like a normal stomach... i can eat and drink without feeling odd sensations, pressure or food getting stuck like the band. Earlier out when i was healing, if i ate too fast or didn't chew properly i would get a little "stuck" feeling.... but nothing like the stuck feeling with the band... sort of like.. stuck without that heavy pressure. For me, once i passed the first 3-4 weeks... everything just became easier.... now i feel like a normal person, who just eats smaller portions.. Water isn't a issue and i am meeting or exceeding my daily goals. One thing i will mention... as an ex bander... you will find you can fit a little more food/fluids than virgin sleevers... as we have less sensation in our esophagus because of the band.... so its important that we measure out food until we can adjust to reading the full signals... -
Obsessed with constant eating, any hope for me?
iamjohnbamber replied to Debbi1025's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This exact thing happened to me too. Had the lap band from 2006-2016, and after a complication (band slip and hiatal hernia) got it revised to a sleeve one week ago (6/27). I feel like I was more hungry with my band, and at times I didn't even have control over some of my cravings. I knew it shouldn't be like that, so I consulted a local surgeon and here I am. Best of luck to you - it's great that you're investigating your options - there are many thankfully. Talk to your doctor. He or she may order some tests, like an EGD and/or Barium Swallow, to get a feel for your band's current status (if anything's slipped or had a problem) and then go over what options you have. -
Obsessed with constant eating, any hope for me?
CowgirlJane replied to Debbi1025's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the band for 10 years, ended up heavier than I started! I revised to sleeve in December 2011, lost about half my former size and maintaining in the goal weight ballpark. For me, sleeve and band have been completely different experiences. I was a bottomless pit and the band didn't help me (after first year) whereas I now have what I consider a normal, not insatiable, appetite. -
I hate posts like this, but 2 days until surgery and I am freaking out
MissKay replied to anniebanana's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@anniebanana the doubts are NORMAL!! I had them before mine, and honestly, any surgery you have, right before it the negatives will stick out like a sore thumb. But like GSleeve822 said, it's all on you! As long as you keep in mind that this is a lifestyle change, and a tool to help you with it, then you will be good to go. While I've seen and heard people needing revisions, or switching to a mini bypass, I've also seen and heard (and know someone in person who's had a sleeve for 8 years with no regain) who has done wonderful! Also--hello fellow Washingtonian!! @@Laughkc11 the 2 weeks pre-op will be a struggle and it will bring forth a LOT of clarity, and it will open your eyes to habits you didn't even know you had. The clear liquids post-op is actually a lot easier than it is pre-op. It's truly like hitting a reset button. -

Obsessed with constant eating, any hope for me?
UsernameTaken replied to Debbi1025's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi @@Debbi1025 I can really relate to you... I had my lap band since 2008 and same thing. My hunger was horrible... I finally revised to bypass on May 13th, and although I have had complication after surgery, I am much happier now. For the first month or so I had no appetite at all, it was very weird.. Now I get hungry when it's time to eat, as long as I eat my high Protein food I am satisfied with about half cup of food. Sometimes I will have a small snack. So far I am down 33 lbs post op, it's not as fast as some other people are losing but it's still going in the right direction and I will take that ! Just remember surgery sleeve or bypass is a tool to help us but you still have to follow plan and change your eating habits. -
Obsessed with constant eating, any hope for me?

I failed my lab band. Have had it for 11 years. Lost 60, gained it all back. Unless I take phentermine, I want to eat all the time and keep gaining weight. I'm wondering if I should consider a revision to a sleeve considering my food obsession. What do you think? Sent from my SM-G360P using the BariatricPal App -
Biggest change or challenge from band to sleeve ?
iamjohnbamber posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey all, Newly sleeved on 6/27 when Lap Band was removed as well. I had the Lap Band for 10 years, and am just curious from my fellow revised folk: What's been the single biggest challenge or change that took getting used to ? I also had a hiatal hernia repaired during my conversion, so the doctor explained the sensation of drinking and swallowing may feel similar to the band as the hernia repair site heals internally. I'm 6 days post op and I can tell it's less "band-like" each day. (What I mean by "band-like" is this... drinking a sip of Water, feeling the water go down my esophagus and "pause" before draining into the rest of my stomach. ) Looking forward to hearing from you! -

Gastric sleeve to gastric bypass revision
SleeveandRNYchica replied to msmreed47's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am 70lbs down with my sleeve to RNY revision. I still suffer with heartburn so that is a bit of a disappointment. I was hoping between the revision and the hernia fix it would take care of it. -

DSLdiversity posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone please help I'm new to the process. I am approved for revision surgery (band to sleeve), I have my date but 3-weeks before my surgery I'm scheduled to have a gallbladder ultrasound, then three days later an endoscopy. I've done all preliminary blood test and psych evaluation. What could this be for from your experiences? DSLdiversity -
Any Tennessee Sleevers Out There?
Daenerys Targaryen replied to BigMommaNoMore's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
All the best to you and your wife. Dr. Woodman is an awesome surgeon. He's a bit blunt but its necessary.I was sleeved by Woodman and never had an issue with him until my last visit. He came into the room complaining about the lady he saw before me had been, "eating ice cream" and then he went on a tirade about how i had only lost 5 lbs since my last visit and how I wasted my time and his by having the surgery. I will not go back to see him again. I have followed his guidelines as best as I can. I dont eat crap, I excercise, I get my proteins.....i have not gained an once and I have lost 10 inches from my waist....also went from a 3x shirt to an XL. .....i didnt need any discouragement from somebody I am paying. .....BTW....he charges $500 up front and my insurance said he is not allowed to do that. Like I said, I will not see him again.. Dr Woodman did my lapband surgery in 2008 and was so mean and nasty to me and other people that I knew that had used him for the lapband. He has a reputation amongst local doctors for being so horrible to his patients. Even though I lost 90lbs that year after the lapband he wrote such awful things in my medical records that I am unable to get a revision now and having to go through the appeals process. All because of him and what all he wrote. My insurance advocate read me some of it when she received the records but said she couldn't even read it all because he had been so mean. -

You sound very strong. My year has been much like yours. I have learned to put my faith in God or whatever higher power you believe in. I have given up control and my life has become so uncomplicated. I had surgery on September 11, 2016 to repair a ventral hernia. It was supposed to be 2 1/2 hours long. 8 1/2 hrs later after I passed on the table and was brought back. I was told by the surgeon, she also had to revise my gastric bypass. One month after surgery my husband and I became homeless. We have been staying with friends since. I have learned to be grateful for all that I have. Every morning I am so grateful to be alive. You too will get through this. If you need someone to talk to you can message me. Sent from my LGLS675 using the BariatricPal App -
Just "unfriended" someone today I have known since before my Lap Band in 2010. She got banded shortly after me and we were band buddies. Well I have been throwing the revision to sleeve idea around for 6 months and today she let me have it. "You should have just gone to the gym", "you're just trying to be your husbands trophy wife", "I cannot believe you went to Mexico for revision!". WTH I had surgery 4 days ago!!! Who does that? I am sorry you switched insurances lady and I am a cash patient. I am sorry that I went to Mexico and couldn't be in the same operating room on the same table with you. GET OVER IT. You'll get your sleeve soon enough but I will not be your sleeve buddie. Find a different chick. Rant over. Thanks for listening. I feel better.
