How many ounces are you ACTUALLY eating?
reree6898 replied to Afrikanaaa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am almost 8 months out. I weigh or measure everything. I eat 3-4 ounces total max per meal between protein then veggies if there's room. Breakfast is typically less then that. I can eat a 4-5 ounce Greek yogurt most days for an afternoon snack but there are days when I'm done at about half. It seems to be pretty normal for sleeved people to have slight variances from day to day on amounts that can be eaten. -
How many ounces are you ACTUALLY eating?

I so needed to see this today! Just finished a 5 oz light Greek yogurt and the thought immediately in my head was - shouldn't that have been more difficult??! I was sleeved two weeks ago (5/10). I'm very focused on getting my Water and Protein in! Tomorrow I move to a phase 3 diet: puréed foods. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Weight is not going down

You have lost 48 pounds in 2 months...That is fantastic!! Be proud of yourself !! I agree with @kindle. "Your issues are very easy to fix......You need to be getting 60-80g of Protein and minimum 64oz Water. Those are the two most important elements to losing weight. Nix the granola and sugary yogurt and fruit and replace all of them with high protein foods" I was sleeved 3/25/16. My start weight was 306 before preop diet. Now I am 258. I have about 30grams protein a day. Have difficulty with water. My usual day: breakfast- Greek fat free whipped yogurt with 2 spoons of granola. Lunch- any type of Soup. Dinner- can be anything. What ever I cook for family. But I do eat fruits. Any sample menus? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

This sounds like a great question for your NUT. I don't take probiotic supplements, but I eat a lot of Greek yogurt. -

Well I'd say you're doing pretty well considering you are down 48 lbs in less than 2 months. Anyway - you need to get all of your protein and water in - or not only will your weight loss stall but you will not heal properly. Be sure to check the sugar content on the Greek Whipped Yogurt (I bet it has a fair amount of sugar) and the carbs on the granola. Does the soup have Pasta or rice? How many carbs? Depending on what you're having for dinner - this could be an issue as well. You need protein and if you are still hungry - eat produce. No pasta, bread, rice, etc. 30 grams of protein is definitely too low. -

7 days out no restriction WTF
AmyNLaynie6 replied to AmyNLaynie6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cream of wheat or thin mashed potatoes are on my approved list along with greek yogurt and strained soups. I really can't wait till I can just puree some meat and vegetables though cause these foods seem so carbs to me I guess that's why I'm only supposed to eat 2oz -

I have done better yesterday and today. Before that I was nauseated all the time and I know I was way low on protein and Fluid because I didn't feel like eating or drinking. I'm still trying to figure out my protein measurements. A little tuna, refried Beans, lunch meat, cottage cheese, yogurt. Trying to figure out how much protein in each little serving is difficult. Sent from my LG-H811 using the BariatricPal App I log all my food in the app myfitnesspal. Itll help you see how much youre actually eating.

Starting purées a day early
Freckles70 replied to Freckles70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been eating a super thick Greek yogurt (Oikos triple zero) since day 2 so after talking to my husband I decided to give the refried beans a try. They were DELICIOUS! I did a 1/4 cup with an oz of melted shredded cheddar and it went down very smoothly and easily. -

Too much restriction?
miss_smiles replied to UpandAtom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 2 weeks post op I could not even eat food at that point, just protein shakes. But at 2 months post op - when I'm not drinking fluids I'm eating. I get between 500-800 (shooting for 1,000) calories a day. At the gym, I have been burning between 4-500. I need to eat more to lose in fact I was in a stall, and started eating more and broke the stall. I have between 5-6 meals a day all small in ounces (between 2 and 4 usually, 5 oz is pushing it), but all jam packed with protein (tuna, chicken, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, low fat cheese, etc). My doc said I should be eating 3 meals a day and no snacking, but I can't do that and get enough food in. So I have been doing this, and nearly 2 months and 40 pounds down, I would say its working. Maybe try to look on here for other recipes, and things you can eat at your stage. Everyone's body is different. It will get better! Good luck! -
You don't have a pouch, and no, that's not an interchangeable word. Sip on your Protein shakes all day if you have to. Skip the broccoli for now, it's too fibrous, mushy or not. Oatmeal and potatoes aren't a great choice, but a high protein Greek yogurt is. Go for something like Greek Light and Fit. Retried Beans are a good choice as is your chicken salad. I am three years out and still have a hard time with hard boiled eggs, but I can eat them cooked scrambled and very wet. SF pudding with Protein powder stirred in is an option, as is seafood salad, crab cakes, hummus and guacamole. I am three years out and my restriction isn't much looser than yours. I thank my surgeon for that every day. I WANT to eat at times and I am so glad I can't. I never want to be fat again. This is my new normal and I Celebrate it every day.

wow, did they really say that oatmeal, yogurt and potatoes don't have a lot of nutritional value?
-
Sleeve and pouch were interchangeable I thought. Nonetheless I'm eating pretty slow and I use the small spoon at home but today I was at work on my 30 minute lunch in the break room so I didn't want to break out my toddler spoon and have people asking a bunch of questions. My doctor has me on soft foods not so much pureed. I had chicken salad so it's pretty mushy. And my broccoli was overcooked and mushy too. I take my Vitamins but really kind of over the Protein shakes. I was hoping to just get the protein from food but that's not looking too good either. He strongly advises against yogurt because of the sugar content, pretty much he said "no sloppy foods" like oatmeal, yogurt, and mashed potatoes, that don't really contain a lot of nutritional value. Unflavored Protein
Montana Gal replied to DuckieXD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Designer whey unflavored, only because it's in my local health food stores and I didn't have to order it online. I really don't taste it and usually mixe it with 2Tbsp PB2 and almond milk for my shakes. I still use Premiere Protein, but it's a nice change from the sweet flavors. During the soft stage I added it to my Greek Yogurt, scrambled eggs, ect. Good luck to you and your husband next week! -
Cake after being sleeved
tracywag replied to LMSWNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I know my family will be having cake, I make myself a mug cake. 1 scoop Protein powder (I've used banana, chocolate and blueberry), 1 scoop Carbquik (can also use a nut flour plus baking soda), an egg, a scoop of cottage cheese, ricotta, or greek yogurt, and add milk until it looks like batter. Microwave in a bowl or larg mug for 1-1.5 minutes. When I say scoop, it's the same scoop as the Protein Powder so all equal parts. -
Also I know all surgeons are different. But I wasn't cleared to eat chicken when I was at your point. I started out on a pureed consistency foods like scrambled eggs, yogurt, refried Beans, then progressed to canned meats like tuna and chicken. And forget about trying to eat broccoli, focus on Protein and take your Vitamins. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

Question about purée food...
jane13 replied to Express09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Express09 - stuffing is too risky IMO as it could form a ball in your new tummy. That is why the soupy type mashed potatoes are allowed at this point, although there is no Protein (unless you add unflavored) value. I have added flavored powdered protein to unflavored plain greek yogurt for a pudding type snack. I use 1 scoop (25 or so grams of protein, depending on what you are using) and added the flavored protein to a consistency I would call like pudding. -
I'm 2 weeks post op and it takes me about 4 or 5 different sittings just to get one Premier Protein shake in. I need to focus on protein for the healing process as you do as well. I would substitute cottage cheese or yogurt for the oatmeal... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
