Now you can start the Couch to 10k.. Or just keep going on your 5k and work on improving your time. I love cycling.. so maybe you can start that.. Lifting weights and doing squats will also improve your 5k time.

SHEER TERROR
Journey2BNThin replied to GotItDoneInHarlem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with everyone else, be confident in you and what you bring to the table. I was sleeved on 12/17 and have lost 43lbs this far. I've allowed myself to start dating. I've been in two dates with two separate men but I told them upfront abt my surgery, due to the fact I didn't want them to look at me strange for the inability to eat my meal. It was fine, they understood and didn't judge me. Actually, they felt I looked pre and post-op. For us it's abt the weight, for the person that truly likes us for who we are, it's about US, the person! So enjoy yourself and don't worry abt the rest. We all the same size in the dark! -
spiralling downward... please read
Roo101769 replied to jennynoblemiller's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 13 days out that does seem like a bit too much to consume. I was only on purees or maybe scrambled egg at that point. I don't think your stomach has healed nearly enough to start digesting even semi solid foods. But....if you did not feel physically sick you may have gotten away with it. ( this time) Don't tempt fate and do it again though would be my advice. You are seriously risking your health, not just if you lose weight or not. That all being said the up side of it is you seem to have at least some mental control going on. Do not let anyone try to fool you or tell you otherwise...This is a HUGE mental battle, not just a physical adjustment. The fact that you gave away the truffles, brought a shake, had guilt...All good signs you are at least trying to think before you act. I had a hotel birthday party for my daughter for her 5th birthday because I was only 10 days post op myself. I took my shake, some applesauce, refried Beans and the like with me. It gave me variety and something to eat without worrying about having to chose something. You aren't ready for regular diet choices, so don't put yourself in a situation you have to make any. Make sure you have some variety of items you CAN consume now readily available. This will save you a WORLD of guilt and issues down the road, trust me. It only gets harder as you progress to solid foods. Just because we "can" eat something certainly does not mean we ever should. food is not our enemy. Going in with that approach will set you up for failure. But you have to realize food is no longer your comfort, your friend, your lover, your reason for being. Food is to live. Yes you can enjoy food again, but make every effort to enjoy food that is appropriate for your health and the stage of the planyou are on. One more thing....Has your family been supporting you? Given the champagne and truffels and the rich dinner I get a feeling that, just perhaps, they all need schooled in the reality of VSG and life post op. I don't want to assume anything, but it appears there wasn't much thought put into where you are right now by whoever set the whole thing up. Your life does go on, you will always be you. But they need to realize adjustments have to be made so you can be the BEST you that you can be!!! Anyway, it is in your past now. You cannot change what has happened. All you can do is focus on what is ahead of you and move forward. Hopefully your surgeon or NUT can help you work towards healthier choices for your future. -
Ok so I had my third fill today...my doctor asked me how much I wanted (I had 4cc in a 10cc band) and I said "just a little"...he called me a chicken and so I relented and said "ok, put in however much you think I should have"...and he put in 1.5ml which brought it upto 5.5cc total. He gave me my little cup of Water and told me to hang around until I had finished it. Well I couldn't finish it. I could swallow the water but could still feel in there in my chest so I asked the receptionist/nurse etc what they thought I should do and they said maybe I should get a little taken out. So I hung around and he took me back into his office...I said I think i needed some taken out and he said to me "well, if I take any out, you won't lose weight. You know that it's just like this because it is swollen atm from jsut having it done and it should settle down within a couple of days"...anyway, I still said I would like at least .3 taken out so he took out .5 and I tried drinking the water again and this time it went down a lot easier...I can still feel the restriction - I just tried having 1cup of thin pumpkin Soup and I couldn't finish it. Has anyone else gone against their doctors recommendation for the fill amount? I feel incredibly stupid atm because I want to know that this is going to make a difference but I just couldn't see myself losing any weight at all if I couldn't even swallow some water. Anyone???

BMI 35 just had surgery on the 30th Oct 2013, now 4 days post op
2muchfun replied to bch's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There is no average or standard for how much people lose before first fill. Most fills take place 30-60 days post op. It can take several fills before you feel any kind of restriction or extended satiety. Fills don't make you lose weight. Eating fewer calories than you burn makes you lose fat. -
I think because we are so conscious of our weight and how we look right now, we are constantly looking at others and "sizing" them up so to speak. I find myself looking at other women and thinking I look better than her, or I am skinnier than her or she could look better. Then I tell myself to shut the f up and move on. Its only bitchy if you are rude and say it out loud, you are allowed to think what you want

Hello everyone How are you all??? Well have my date for my first consultation 21st of February.....Hooraah I here you say. Well yes and no I'm going for a british medical clinic first. Up to Harley Street £50.00 just for that ($100.00), thats not to bad. I did a sum on BMI mines around 63.6 bad I know. Ok if I was only around the 50 number it would ONLY cost me £7950.00 ($15900.00) but because I'm over the 50 mark it is going to cost me £8450.00 ($16900.00) which I must say made me feel a little queasey to say the least. I have asked them if I went and had this op done overseas no clinic as they know of would offer me any aftercare so I'm a little bit, excuse the language screwed as the price goes. Yes I can have a loan and with a little help from my family I hope to get the money together but what makes me a little bit mad is how can they justifie such a big price when in other countries it's so much cheaper. Here in the uk we have a very bad problem with over weight people. Yes I know no one was standing over us and force feeding us to make us the way we where, but it gets me so mad knowing people out there, who are so desperate out there to loose weight have no way on earth to afford this knid of operation. We do have the NHS's but the weight for that is terrible. Just wanted to know what you all thought about this. Sorry for going on

My insurance won't cover the surgery if your BMI is below 40 - period. I have co-morbidities and am at 37.8... so my insurance said no way... gain 30 lbs and sure! Luckily, I have a wonderful surgeon and his staff ...who let me weigh with my purse... and a 25 lb weight. ;D

I have researched,,,,,tried everything to talk myself out of it,,,but I just believe this may be the the way I would be able to keep off the weight!!! I just believe that after I lose the weight this time,,,this tool could help me keep it off. I know I am much healthier/happier at a lower bmi/weight. I know that I should be able to control my weight! I also know that because I can not, it is a disease that controls me. I guess that is why I really want to beat it!!!!

I was sleeved 9/16/14 - initial dr visit was 8/28/14 and weight was 223. Surgery date was 9/16/14 and weight was 221. So didn't lose too much post op. today 10/9/14 and I'm at 206.6. Am I on schedule ? Seems others are half MORE by now than me. I'm not able to reach any of my goals. Also having problem with ideas for puréed stage. I need to get the protein in as well as the water. So hard to do both. Am I alone in this state ?? :-/

Gallbladder n sleeve together?
Ed_NW replied to April Marie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It seems like in the older WLS videos I watched, they would automatically take it out. I think there are better medicines now to prevent gallstones. I know rapid weight loss will cause stones unless you're medicated. I wonder if while they are poking around in there, they can tell if you have stones and then cut that thing out? -
I'm getting my protein now but still not meeting fluid goals. I did walk a mile today and felt really good. I lost the first 3 weeks then no more the past 3 but I just finished my period also. I go for my 6 wk post op appt Thurs so I'll have an official weight.

Don't worry, the scale will move. You're losing fat and gaining muscle - muscle weighs more AND it's smaller! Hooray. Don't worry, the scale will move. Your body is compacting, before you know it you're going to drop weight like crazy. Keep moving. Don't worry, the scale WILL move.

They were commenting to me this summer they thought it was so awesome I was going on bike rides with them and I was keeping up with them. I need to get my exercise in as a priority. I am saying with weightloss I don't tire out as fast any more. I am excited to be part if my kids lives nit watching them out the window!

I feel like I am a slow loser!
Misty_eyes replied to usmcmorninngstar@yahoo.com's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I agree! the scale stopped moving for me and i'm 7weeks out, i lost fast the first 3 weeks and its the same weight for me now. But all my clothes are loose, i get teased at work I need to get new ones. I bought my first size Large top, and I used to wear 2xl. I can fit 14/16 and i used to wear 20 pants. So I guess, the weighing scale doesn't really tell the whole story. Although it would be nice to see it go down, ill take non scale victories too! -

I am sure the weight gain from being re-hospitalized for the pancreatitis is from the IV fluids they pump you full of. And yes, there is a week 3 stall, pretty much everybody goes through it. Just stick with the program, keep doing what you are doing and it will work...I promise! -

TheGamer replied to usmcmorninngstar@yahoo.com's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Do a search for "week 3 stall" on the forums and you'll see that pretty much everyone has experienced a stall around... well... week 3. It's totally normal and as long as you stick to what you're supposed to do, this too shall pass. Stalls are a part of the weight loss process and nothing to worry about. With as little caloric intake as we get, especially immediately after surgery, losing weight isn't really an option. -

The weight gain is from the Iv fluids -
Thanks for answering! I am following the program but I was constipated too and went to the ER and gain some weight without eating anything!,, I think it was something that they put on my IV that has a lot of proteins and vitamins ( they call it the bariatric fluid) . I will be more patient!!! Thanks

I was banded on Aug 6th and have done well with my weight loss (23 lb) and have not needed a fill..yet. I have noticed over the last week I am drinking more water but I am also hungrier than I was before. I am eating 1/2 cup per meal and feel full. I eat 3 times a day and eat high protein, low carb. I do not drink with meals and wait 30-60 min after eating to drink fluids. Is the water causing my food to slide through faster? Do I need a fill? Or is it a combination of both? What to do, what to do..

Confused about artificial sweeteners
arthritis_me replied to Susie1226's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sugar does turn to fat and so does carb, if you try using stevia or the natural sweeteners you can avoid some of the bad rap associated with asperitame (headaches, depression & possible infertility-I haven't seen the studies on the infertility but someone mentioned it). I don't believe that sweeteners just make your body crave more, I use some sweetener in certain teas and in protein cookie/brownie baking. I'd rather be eating less calories and forcing my body to burn it's own fat than creating carb and sugar calories for it to burn first, faster weight loss = a happier me. -
Is there a trainer at your gym you can talk with? Maybe you could take a fitness test with them and they could help you establish a routine to help you meet some goal with weights, flexibility, pull-ups, those crunches where you swing your legs up, etc. and then you can re-test in about 3 months. I totally understand the need for a goal. Good luck!

I have found mt breath control to be improving. My voice is now effected by coffee as well. I find when I drink coffee my vocal chords are tight, and control is out the window. I used to be an avid Diet coke drinker, and never experienced this. No more coffee on Sunday mornings...or any other day for me What will they take next??!! (I hope my fat!) Hang in there, Leona, you will gain the control you again desire as you learn to work with your improving body. You capacity will be trained again on strength and flow. Continue to practice, but as always, don't over do it. Do you still have your breathing ball-float 'machine' from the hospital? I continued to use that to guage control and intake.

Can't believe it's been 2 years...
himalaya62 replied to Rev Me Up!'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm grateful to you as well. Although I was never banded I understand the ups and downs you encountered. I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my dad this year as well and I too drank a lot, granted it was before my sleeve but I did gain quite a bit of weight due to the stress of it all. I am just 17 days post op and started solid foods this week. I am not doing as we'll as I thought I would. My life is so rush rush that I know I am eating too fast and I get that awful pain between my shoulder blades. It comes on before I realize I am full. I need to learn to slow down. I have lost 26 lbs so far so I'm happy for that. I can't wait to be a size 8. It's been since high school that I was that size!! Thank you again for sharing your story. It's wonderful to hear about the sleeve veterans experiences. God bless!!! -
Dazed and Confused!!
Shay7997 replied to LoserHeather37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You actually need between 1000 and 1200 calories to lose weight. You won't lose weight at 800-1000 because your body is going into starvation mode. It's like what malnourished children in 3rd world countries experience.
