Pre-op diet, hungry, not losing weight
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to JessiPhoenix's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The sidebar is where your surgery stats are located. It tells which surgery you had, surgery date, height, weight and BMI. It's difficult for advice to be given if we have little to no information about you. Here's a thread for reference: https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/440117-sidebars-can-bp-help-nudge-users-to-fill-in-their-info/?tab=comments#comment-4958281 -
It's basically 1kg a week. Weight loss far in excess of that probably isn't all fat anyway.

Dreaded hair loss - question
blackcatsandbaddecisions replied to Crinkles's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yeah, I hit protein and fluid and still lost a lot of hair. It really is just luck of the draw. Only me and my hairdresser really noticed. I cut my hair above shoulder length to help it not look stringy. Plus is that I couldn’t really pull off short hair when I was heavy- but now that I’m a normal weight i don’t need long hair to hide behind. -
March 2022 Surgery Buddies
gabbykittyvsg replied to LilaNicole20's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
March 1st here. After the surgery and readmission I didn't sleep much that first week. I've been sleeping 12+ hours since I got home, making up for the sleep a person doesn't get in the hospital. The incision itchies are almost gone and my abdomen is looking better every day. Adhesive reactions are a pain! I have a follow up with my surgeons nurse practitioner on Tuesday and the dietitian on Wednesday. I've lost about 9 pounds so far which is a major surprise considering all the IV fluids and steroids I had. Saturday the poop damn broke loose and that's where I've lost most of the weight. Fluids have been no problem and I'm now able to start thickening up some liquids. I've totally blended soups and they tasted sooooooooo good. I'm totally over the taste of protein drinks so I've been doing a fair amount of Fairlife skim milk, yummy! I go back to work tomorrow evening. I do some light janitorial work and tomorrow night's account only takes about 1-1.5 hours. Sent from my Z5157V using BariatricPal mobile app -
Pre-op diet, hungry, not losing weight

I'm in my pre-op diet stage. My surgery is March 17th. I'm doing exactly what I'm suppose to and I'm so hungry and I haven't lost any weight. What's wrong with me?? -
Only 22lbs lost 2 months post op - what is happening?
learn2cook replied to Zerofuckstogive70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I lost 20 lbs at 2 months. You sound like you are doing well. Everyone looses at their own pace, and exercises at their own capacity too. I love to move and be active and have found that if I feel “starving “ I should eat a little more protein or veg and the weight stall ends. My plan is mostly protein and veggies, but I can eat anything. That said, I dump and have problems digesting simple carbs so I tend to avoid them or pair them with protein if I really want them (just me). Most of the time it’s not worth it (still feeling the noodles from 2 days ago). -
Bernstein diet after weight loss surgery?
Guest replied to Ivanova8's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
While true to an extent, it's not 12 months "see how much you can lose" and then on day 366, you're done at whatever weight. Just stick to your program, listen to your body, get your protein in and don't ignore hunger signals when they return. In a way, this is your chance to *not* be on a crazy diet, but to get a chance to eat a balanced diet for life. As for B12, I have a lot more malabsorption with MGB compared to RNY, and I'm actually increasing B12 in my blood by way of sublinguals, so that's neat. -
One Year Sleeve Anniversary!!

Firstly congrats on your journey, 80 pounds is an achievement definitely. As for your weight loss journey, if you still desire to lose more, like many suggested, you will have to cut down on your calories no matter how much you're able to consume. Because 1800 seems more like a maintenance calories, so if you aren't losing, do a 1200 or 1400 calories a day and/or increased physical activity. Once you're done with your weight loss phase, you can always go back to the maintenance calories. -
Bernstein diet after weight loss surgery?
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Ivanova8's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You have tried it but went back on regular diet and put your weight back on. Do you think low-carb diet is sustainable for life? I know many opt for Keto and low carb diets but can you personally do it for life? That should be the question to ask. If it isn't sustainable, it isn't for you. After done various diets, I know personally, low carbs/Keto isn't for me. I don't like restrictive diets. They always triggered my binging. So I will always make sure not to intentionally restrict anything from my diet. Of course, a balanced diet is a must. But restrictive diet is a big NO NO for me unless it's something temporary. I won't be able to do it for life nor do I want to make that my lifestyle post surgery. -
Bernstein diet after weight loss surgery?
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Ivanova8's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I remember having done with this diet about 15 yrs back. Lost weight and put it all back on plus more. Ever since that diet, my metabolism has been a wreck. It also triggered binge eating disorder in my case which never really went away with the cycle of yo yo dieting. Dr. Bernstein diet or any other such restrictive diet, I wouldn't recommend it anyone. Dr. Bernstein's diet is not only low carb, but also an extremely low calorie diet. I used to consume around 500ish calories in a day and back then I was too young and inexperienced what that can do to one's biological system. They also don't focus on getting appropriate protein in. Their main focus is to cut down on all macros to make sure you're losing weight. That also meant you would be losing your muscles along with it. I have faced the repercussions of that diet for over a decade. In my case personally, I wouldn't recommend any sorta restrictive diet for life because it can trigger binging which can be catastrophic. One of the reasons, I opted for bariatric surgery is because it does provide restriction on protion control but also helps with stabilizing the hormones and thermostat. I don't anymore have the tendency or feels to binge. My cravings aren't crazy either nor do I think of food all the time. The constant head hunger isn't there nor do I have the constant voice telling me to order this food or that. Anyone who struggles with binging, please do yourself a favor and don't ever take the route of restrictive diets especially after you're given a shot to fix your mess with this surgery. Yes, bariatric surgery also comes with its limitations and lifelong committment, but it is something that is sustainable if you keep your focus. So, in my opinion, I wouldn't recommend it especially Dr. Bernstein's diet. __________ And if you wanna replicate its diet, modify it. Keep it low card but make sure you get enough protein and calories. You also don't need that kinda Vitamin B12 intake. Oral sublingual pills are enough to keep your B12 levels normal. Just got my levels tested 3 months post-Op, and they are in the normal range. -

My procedure was on the 8th. I gained 7 pounds in the hospital from the fluids so needless to say, I felt like a stuffed turkey! I was able to get most of my fluid, protein, and carbs. Today I feel pretty much like normal. I’ve been reading everyone’s posts. Sounds like most are doing well. -

February 2022 Surgery Buddies
MimmyMim replied to MeganMyers's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having a weird psychological thing right now. Although we had a freakishly cold day in GA yesterday, it is time to start putting away winter clothes and pull out spring/summer clothes. I know I should probably go ahead and donate the winter things. Many are too big now just 5 weeks post op. But I keep thinking, “What if I don’t lose weight?” I really like clothes so I will be storing a lot if I hang on to them. Any advice? -
Only 22lbs lost 2 months post op - what is happening?
Zerofuckstogive70 replied to Zerofuckstogive70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I apologize but I don’t know how to reply directly to messages. My caloric intake ranges between 500-900 calories per day. I do about 40-45 minutes of cardio and the rest of the time I’m strength and weight training. Since this post I’m down another 2 pounds but struggling with constipation. Smh -
Onederland! It's been 30+ years since a 1 was the first digit in my weight! That's 93 lbs since surgery.

Can you post what your food intake looks like over the course of the day? Dec, Jan, Feb surgeries
Guest replied to idk4w's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely. If you ate, say, 600 Calories on a Wednesday. And if, on that Wednesday, you burned, for example, 1800 calories, then you lost body fat. On that day, you lost body fat. And a little of other things, some protein. Not from muscle primarily like people say but from skin and intestinal lining which are high turnover proteins. The scale doesn't always reflect that linearly. You may retain water, or have inflammation. The people who say "I lost 21lb in the first two weeks and in week three I've stalled" - well, it's simple nonsense! They didn't lose anywhere close to 21lb in two weeks. It's takes a caloric deficit of 3500 Calories to lose 1lb which means that they'd have needed a deficit of 5250 Calories per day. Which even if they ran a marathon and ate absolutely nothing, is impossible. So...they almost certainly lost inflammation weight after their operation trauma, glycogen/water if their carbohydrate levels are much lower than pre-operatively and there will be other aspects too like serious dehydration. And this infamous 3 week stall? Well, all those things are largely finished and most people won't be doing the KFC buckets with extra fries in week three, so why is it? Normally increased fibre, giving roughage weight in the intestine and rehydration due to the ability to drink more water. -
April 2022 Surgery Buddies
shazza_ob1 replied to Crinkles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all. After waiting since 2018 I am finally going for my sleeve on 12th April. I am so anxious and really don’t want to scare myself out of this after waiting so long. I suffer from severe panic and anxiety disorder so it’s going to be so hard to get this done but so far my determination has kept me going. It’s been sprung on me kinda fast lol so trying to get my brain in gear. I’m worried as I’m half a stone over my start weight when I first saw surgeons in 2018. Will they cancel me? Sorry for waffling. Good luck all xxx -
Pain after surgery
Arabesque replied to Sulynfan22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is it a new pain? Are you able to manage it with over the counter pain meds? It could just be your body healing: stretched muscles realigning themselves, organs shifting back into place, etc. It could be your gall or liver playing up because of your weight loss so far. Have you been doing too much or lifting heavy things? If it persists or gets worse contact your surgeon or go to your nearest medical centre. All the best. -
Yes, it’s just over 24lbs which is a decent amount of weight loss for most people. It’s not a race. There ‘s no gold medal or media covered celebration for how fast you lose. You will lose weight at your own rate. Some are slow losers. Some lose more quickly. There are too many factors beyond your control which influence the rate of your loss: age, gender, weight loss/gain history, existing health conditions, medications, etc.

Band to Bypass Surgery coming up...SCARED
loridee11 replied to MaryRN66's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi whispers, I lost most of my weight with band (333 to 183) but then I gained it all back. When I started my weight loss pre- RNY I was back at 333. I'm now down around 160 and I lost it over a little over a year. What made bypass better for me: Food doesn't get stuck. I don't throw up. I don't have acid reflux (well, much. I'm one of the unfortunate ones that still has some). At 2+ years out I eat a "normal" amount --- normal for normal weight people, not my pre-surgery normal. That can be good or bad as if I eat the wrong things I will get too many calories. But it is better than with band. With band, if I was retaining water, or on my period I may only be able to eat a bite or two some days. Other days it felt like I could eat anything. For what it's worth, I also really embraced exercise and walk almost every day, hike multiple days a week, and hit the gym a few times a week now that they are open again. -
This website here has a store section and has a sweets section that is suppose to be good for weight loss people. Typically high in protein and sugar free... They have stuff like chocolates, chips and other snacks. Check it out and see if you like it

I just signed up for my first 5K race (on Mother's Day!) and suddenly I'm so emotional that I'm shaking. I've done several 5Ks in the past, both before and after my lapband in 2013 (lost 95 lbs, got pg then gained it all back plus more), but I just can't believe I'm back and going to be able to do this again! I'm in tears thinking about how much I've changed in the past year (sleeved on 3/26/21), and I'm so proud that I'm bursting. I'm half way through week 4 of Couch to 5K and things are going awesomely. I'm scared too, though, because I have fears that I'll tear something or get injured. And anyone who did C25K before knows the dreaded 20 min run is next week. I'm trying to be super careful and methodical about my stretching before and after training so I can continue running. It makes me feel invincible.

Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)
SummerTimeGirl replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
UPDATE: I go in this week for another regular check up with my family doc and so today he had me get my cholesterol and my A1C done again. My LDL was 137 which is weird cause it was 135 in September. I would think it would have improved and gone down more. NOT go up.....even if it isn't up by much. My A1C was 5.6 down from 5.8 in September. I would have thought that would have gone down more too. Especially since last March it was 6.7 and went to 5.8 in September last year. BIG difference in just 6 months. So why was this last 6 months not so good? Also been stalled for about that same amount of time. These things make me think even more that maybe I should have stayed at my normal Metformin dose so I'll definitely be talking about that this week with my doctor. As much as I wanted to come off the meds it just may have been too soon. EDITED TO ADD: So even though I have an appointment with him this week he called me to go over the results already. He said my sugar numbers are excellent and responding well but the cholesterol isn't responding as well but it isn't terrible. Anyway, he mentioned Metformin and my weight loss and stuff and then I briefly said that I wanted to discuss it and why and he then mentioned that there are better medications than Metformin that accomplish the same stuff for my sugars but also help with weight loss so we'll talk about that this week too. Not sure what medication he is thinking about but I guess I'll see. -
