    June Surgery anyone?

You know, I was looking through posts last night I came across one about NSV (non scale victories). I read page after page of things that people can now do or wear and the more I read, the more excited I got. I feel like I won the lottery and am just waiting to pick up my check. Never thought I would be excited about someone cutting 85% of my stomach out. Come on June 30th.

WOW!!! That is one of the greatest NSV's I've seen on this board!! I would not be able to keep that one quiet either!! Wow!! Congrats, you! You have a great kid. C
  4. Wow Leigha! Leave it to you to burn that many calories when you're not exercising LOL! I can't wait for my BB to get here! It looks like it will arrive on Tuesday, so not much longer now! So, to burn the extra 300+ calories as Betsy mentioned should be easy with the 'regular' activites you maintain (especially the gardening)! The more I think about it, the more I really think the calorie deficiency is the reason for our plateaus for as much as we're burning. I am going to follow the BB recommendations for a couple of weeks and see what happens. I have nothing to lose at this point, since I'm going on 9 weeks of this blasted plateau LOL! So, I'm guessing you like your BB? I cannot WAIT to get mine! AF - welcome! I was actually walking right away. You have to take it easy with exercise the first 4 to 6 weeks, but honestly, I was doing about 1 mile per day and I was fine. I wasn't given any timing with drinking (other than no liquids 15 before and an hour after eating). Denise--CONGRATS on your NSV! Woohoo! Betsy--thanks for your kind words. I honestly don't know what I'd do without you guys and the support you constantly give. My husband, not being able to handle the thought of anything potentially bad, reacted in the man way and I just felt so alone. I knew though that between my awesome mother (who lives next door thank God) and you guys, I'd be okay though :-) Happy Mother's Day to all my banded mommies and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!! xo
  5. Denise, congratulations--that is a heck of an NSV! Doesn't it feel great?!
  6. Hi AFMom! Welcome! Exercise, as you can tolerate, just no heavy lifting for 4-6 weeks or as your surgeon advised, but walking is great post-op. It really helps the gas pains. I wore a path in our hallway carpet. Water, sip sip sip, was my instruction. Don't gulp. Sometimes it comes right back up for me if I gulp (this is with restriction--but is a good habit to get used to). My PCP says he wants me drinking 3-4 liters a day. So that means constant sipping all day long, with the exception of your surgeons rules around food. Everyone...I have an NSV. I have been in DC this whole week for meetings. I hung out with some work folk after hours. They dragged me around....and around....and around..... Y'all know I HATE exercise...BUT...one of the ladies told me about www.mapmyrun.com , it gives you a clickable map that tells you how far you walked/ran. I checked out our route from one evening and it was 3.5 miles! I did it with some pain in my legs, but I DID IT!!! That is something I would not have been able to do 2 years ago. Last night I did a night monument tour, I climbed the steps to the Lincoln Memorial without getting totally winded. Oh yeah, I'd say this surgery was worth it!!! Woot Woot!!! How awesome is that??? OH yeah!!!!

Hi guys~ Just finished reading the posts. I take one day off and I get so behind! Jodi~ Wow! WTG on scoring the clothes and the rekindled relationship. They are both awesome. Eva~ that soup sounds great. Have never made a chicken soup with cooking chicken in skillet before (always cook whole chicken or chicken breasts on bone- boiled in the broth). Will try it. Have a good weekend- hope DH is feeling better. Apples~ Safe trip to the lake!!! Give Tanker a hug from Auntie Laura and hope the toe feels better. Oh my! on DS going overseas. uh, my heart goes out to you! I know you are so proud and scared all at the same time. I know how strong you were when they were both over there. hugs. Janet~ sorry too for the death of your old neighbor. Sounded like a great man- love the stories of him playing games with you guys and always inviting you on vacation. Arlene~ WTG on the weight loss!!!!!!!! Julie~ I second what apples said, hope you are ok. Haven't heard from you in a couple days. Linda~ Have a great weekend and wtg on the gym so early! Are you feeling better after the PB at work from the vitamin? Was 219 this morning- that's 3 more lbs! NSV- I fit in a size 16 skirt/with shorts under it, that I have been saving since a month after surgery. I saw it in the store last spring and thought ONE day I will wear this. It didn't look GREAT, but I was so thrilled, I wore it anyway today. I am taking protein powder, some prot. bars and muscle milks with me to NC. I will not gain like i did last month when we went. I know my parents will not be offended if I don't eat- they understand. My sister gets upset with me though. She thinks I am trying to show that I have better "control" or something. I tried explaining that this has NOTHING to do with her. This morning was Nelson's Mothers' Day tea at his school. OMW... what a cute cute morning! They sang "Everybody loves a Saturday night!" and then changed the lyrics to Mother stuff. And then they sang the I love you song. Nels made a handmade heart pin with crooked rhinestones on it. Just love it! I love the laughter of little kids- wish we could bottle it! (we'd cure everyone of everything!) oh, Nelson did his TKD testing last night and got his camo belt. I will post a pic. Sorry for lots of Nelson stuff. :bored: Nelson's best friend, Nick, is having a horrible time. The kid is 6 years old and found his 10 year old golden retriever dead last night. He is devastated and really really not handling it well. You dog lovers- is there anything that helps? Is it too early to give him a pic of his pet? I took a great photo of him and the dog at Halloween. Just feel like doing something. Or just get a toy- and nothing dog related? His mom said he told her to do something- bring him back! He promised to be good for the rest of his life and said she could have all his toys! When she called me last night crying; I bawled for like an hour. So sad. Hope everyone has a great mothers day!!! I am sure I will touch base some from NC. Thanks for the safe travel wishes!

Let's get this singles forum going!

You go Daisy! That's a great NSV. When I was in college I was a ballet dancer and I taught ballroom dancing for a while...I love dancing! Before my sleeve, my feet hurt so much from being heavy that I had to wear these big clunky Birkenstock shoes and orthotics just to be able to walk for the last 2 years. Can you see me trying to dance in my orthotics? I haven't worn a dress in 2 years because of the shoe issue. Well guess what? The last couple weeks, I've been walking all over the place, and wearing sandles! I WILL dance again!!

My best NSV so far is my SIL telling me I looked good. In a text but none the less... We have always had a little battle with our weights. When she was skinny I was fat, vice versa. She is not a her thinest but a nice size. I just wish we could get back to the best friends we used to be. But her sending me the text really brightened my day yesterday!

  12. I saw my regular doctor to talk about getting off some of my meds. He took me off the high blood pressure and high cholesterol meds. I went off the diebeties medication a while back. I am no longer on any weight related medications. What a NSV!

Welcome back, Karen - you were missed. Hope you made it thru lunch and can rest until the vertigo passes. Jessica - those grades sound wonderful. Hold on this week and you can take a break. Congrats on NSV. Julie - I'm also mad at the lady? who loves to criticize, but won't step up and take charge of a project. grrrrr....... Jodi - happy belated b'day. What a bright daughter you have - to see the family drama exactly for what it is. Slimnole - hang in there. The fills will help. And 13 lbs. is a nice beginning. Janet - love how you "lay it on the line". We all want to think that once the weight is off, we can splurge. Sadly - not true. Moderation and minimal treats are the reality. I'm off to the gym. Hi to all. Joyce

Little NSV pick me up last night. I went to get some new underwear as mine are starting to be way too loose. They are hanging out the top of all my pants/capri's. I was an 11 skipped right over 10 and am currently a 9. Went through my old outgrown clothes bag and discovered somethings that use to be too tight now fit great. I did get some food down last night. Sloppy Joe without the bun. Not my fav but it went down. I had a final exam in my anatomy and physiology class this morning. Not sure how I did on the physiology but I feel I did good on the anatomy. I am tettering between an a and b in that class. I got my grade for microbiology lab today. Only a B. I felt I had done better than that. I really enjoyed that class (lab part). I have another final in microbiology the lecture portion on thursday. My grade in there is a B unless I totally ace this last test. And get all the extra credit points. We shall see. The therapist that works with my surgeon responded to my email. I am gonna start going to the support group on wedsnesdays. She just told me to write my feelings out in place of binging. I don't know that anyone really has any answers for me. I just gotta fiqure out what works best for me, I guess.

Had a big (for me) NSV just now. So I got out of the shower, and thought "what the heck, let's see how close my towel is to fitting around me..." And guess what?! IT FIT! It fit all the way around and tucked in without anything showing! (Well, except cleavage lol). This is huge for me because I don't remember EVER being able to do that. And I always wanted to buy the huge bath towels, you know, the really really big ones, just to be able to fit in it. But now I don't have to!!!!! :lol0: Woot! And Daisy, can't wait til I can go out and buy cute undies! You go girl! :frown1:

Great NSV moment yesterday. I went to my daughter's graduation, and we all know how those things go--there are a million cars and you have to walk for miles to get from your car to wherever you are supposed to sit...Two months ago, I would have struggled to make the walk at all, and I definitely would have had to wear sneakers with an orthotic insert. Well not only was I able to make the walk easily--I wore some cute normal sandles that I haven't been able to wear for over 2 years because I had too much pain in my feet. WhooHoo!

My latest NSV is that my bf spilled chocolate all over my pants. He said I might as well throw them in the wash. So there I sat, in my black lace bikini panties feeling good that my stomach is flat and there was no belly hanging over the bikini panties. No more granny panties for me!
  22. Amazing. I can cross my legs now, without having to lift them up with my arms. I have not been able to do that in five years. I can bend down and not have to have something near me to help push me up. I can get into the car without feeling like I am a contortionist. I can fit in a restaurant booth without my stomach touching the table. Amazing.

Congratulations to all of you! You are all doing fabulous! Keep up the great work! I am always blessed to wake up in the morning. . .next is my closet, it's so funny that a few months ago i looked at some of my clothes and said "I have a LONG wait before I can actually fit into these" . . . then one day last week, i said, "I wonder if these fit yet". . well damn if those very tight tight clothes didn't fall right off. . I MISSED THE SIZE!!!! Now if that isn't a NSV, I don't know what is. . .

This is my favorite thread too. I have so many NSV's in my life. At this point I am so happy I did the sleeve. I hope and pray it was a good decision for life. I love when you wake up in the night and discover a bone you forgot you had. It has happened to me with my ribs, my collar bone, and the bones in my forearm. I am waiting for the moment it is my hips. I love that my fat tummy is shrinking inward little by little and that my skin is okay so far. My funny story the other day was I was getting a massage, which I do not treat myself to quite often. My massages are a bit painful b/c I wait until I'm totally stressed out instead of going as often as I need to. And I think every time I go I'm a bit smaller and the massage gets closer to the bones and it just kinda hurts, a good hurt, but hurts. I let him go as deep as he can. So he was sort of massaging around my ribs and I winced and he asked if it tickled. I was like no it hurts. He said, "did it hurt before in your other massages?" I was like "No, I don't think I had any ribs to massage last time!". We both laughed. Another kinda funny NSV is that sometimes I have a good day and someone will look at me. I'm like all turning around behind me trying to see what they are looking at. It IS just plain weird, this crazy sleeve thing. And then yesterday I was at work in an office I don't go to a lot. This big girl just freaked out on me. She was like "AGH! WHAT! Where did you go? Where did it go?" She was just astonished. It was hilarious b/c she was totally in shock and not expecting it. My husband has a big b-day coming up. I bought a SLEEVELESS hawaiin-ish t-shirt dress that just has small straps. I have not shown my shoulders in a LONG LONG time. It was also probably one of my last Lane Bryant purchases b/c it was a 14/16 and so I have to find somewhere else to shop for the next size down. That was bittersweet b/c it is easy for me to find everything there. But it will be a little while before I'm out of there. Anyway, I know we all have these moments. It is totally cool, this crazy sleeve thingy. And I am enjoying it so much. I feel like I've shaved a lot of years off my life, and I'm also going back in time to days when I was more comfortable with myself and my body. My only regret is......that I gave away all my small size clothing about 3 years ago. Darn!
  25. good to hear you are doing well. Congrats on the NSVs! I'm losing per the scale, but don't see it yet.....too funny......Am I understanding correctly? Are you eating already? I'm still on full liquids...won't get advanced until at least Wed when I see the doctor. Pain last night, not sure how much was bowel/gas/or surg....it really didn't matter, it made for a rough night. I'm going to try to get out of the house today [thought i was going to yesterday...didn't happen :-)] Have a great day!
